Close Encounters Of The Third Dimension

Last night Steph, Alek, Darion and I made our way to the ArcLight Theater in Hollywood, CA for the 10PM screening of My Bloody Valentine 3D which opens in theaters all across the country today. Altho Darion and I already saw the movie in 3D last week at the film’s Hollywood premiere, we were both anxious to see it again … and to bring a couple of our best friends along for the fun:

The movie was just as fun the second time around … Steph and Alek had a blast as they loved the film, too! I’m tellin’ ya … seeing MBV in 3D is a damn good time at the movies, I hope all y’all get to check it out this weekend. Remember, snap a pic of you and your friends rockin’ the fancy 3D glasses and send them in … I’ll try to post them with the weekly Pink reader photo submissions :)

In other 3D movie news, Coraline is the next fun movie that will be presented in 3D when it hits theaters on February 6. Coraline is based on the book by Neil Gaiman (as y’all know, one of my FAVE contemporary authors) and tells the tale of a small girl who wishes for a new life, with a new more understanding mother and ends up getting her wish — much to her detriment, as she soon learns. The film is directed by Henry Selick, the man who brought us the amazing film The Nightmare Before Christmas. Coraline will be presented in the very same style … and IN 3D!

The team working on Corlaine’s film release handcrafted 50 unique boxes and sent them out to some very lucky folks in order to promote the film. I was one of the lucky folks selected to receive one of these boxes, here are a few photos:

I am very lucky to receive quite a few promotional materials but I have never received something so unique and special. That the tie-in is with a book from one of my favorite authors is just too much for words. Those of you familiar with the story of Coraline know the significance of buttons to the tale … this box full of buttons in tiny specimen jars is really damn cool. There were 49 other boxes created as well, click HERE to see some of those creations. THIS blog offers a bunch of really cool information on the film (including other photos of these special boxes) for those of you interested in learning more. After the jump, check out the film’s trailer to see just what’s in store in Neil Gaiman and Henry Slenick’s world of Coraline

‘My Bloody Valentine 3D’ Gets A New TV Commercial

With special appearance by PITNB correspondent Darion Lowensten
Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

My boy Darion is featured in a new TV spot to promote the new horror flick My Bloody Valentine 3D which will begin airing on TV this week. At last week’s premiere screening, the folks at Lionsgate asked audience members to give on-camera reviews and Darion stepped up and spoke on behalf of Pink is the new Blog. Check out the full TV commercial:

I love that Darion’s appearance comes after Wes Craven’s at about the 20 second mark. He did a great job, don’t you think? I opted out of appearing in the ad, choosing instead to gush about how much I loved the film right here on the blog. In fact, Darion, Steph, Alek and I have already secured our tickets to see the movie in 3D again on Thursday night … before it opens wide in theaters on Friday. Let me reiterate how much fun this movie is … the 3D is NOT to be missed. I promise, you’ll have a blast seeing this film — just make sure the theater you go to is showing the film in 3D. Not all theaters will be showing the film in 3D so make sure you don’t miss out. If you end up seeing My Bloody Valentine 3D this weekend, send me some pics of you and your friends wearing the fun 3D glasses … I’ll be sure to post them on the site with the weekly Pink reader pics :)

Coal Miner’s Slaughter

The TV Guide
Friday, January 9th, 2009

As I mentioned earlier today (and Twittered last night), Darion and I attended the LA premiere screening of the new Lionsgate horror film My Bloody Valentine 3D and had an absolute blast the entire evening. I cannot stress enough how much I loved this film … no lie, no exaggeration. The 3D elements in the flick are jaw-dropping and make for THE BEST TIME you’ll have at the movies all year. I promise, it’s that fun:

I understand that not every movie theater that will show this movie is equipped for 3D viewing so I URGE YOU to find the theater in your area that is showing this film in 3D to get the full effect. From the opening credits right to the very end of the closing credits, the entire movie is in 3D. Unlike traditional 3D movies, most of the 3Dness takes place in the screen (ie. as if you’re looking into the screen) but there are a lot of really fun gags where the 3D elements come out of the screen and into your face. Early on there is an eyeball gag that cues you in to how fun the movie is going to be. IT should be noted that there is a very lengthy and hilarious nude scene, featuring Betsy Rue, that is both funny and sexy … 3D boobs are not to be missed, I’m telling you. The movie is a very adequate horror film but there is also a Whodunit element that makes the intrigue exciting to the very end. The movie has so many fun 3D gags that I cannot list them all, you just have to see them for yourselves. Trust me on this one, you’ll scream, you’ll jump, you’ll have a blast … and make sure you stay til the very end of the credits :)

After the jump, check out a bunch of photos that Darion and I snapped at the afterparty with Jensen Ackles, Jaime King, Kerr Smith and more …

‘My Bloody Valentine’ Premieres In LA … In 3D!!!

Y'all ain't ready for this awesomeness
Friday, January 9th, 2009

Jaime King, Jensen Ackles, Kerr Smith and others were on hand for the LA premiere screening of the new Lionsgate horror film My Bloody Valentine 3D which took place at the Mann’s Chinese Six Theater in Hollywood, CA last night. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals last night:

Darion and I were lucky enough to attend the LA premiere screening of this movie 3D last night and had an amazing time … but I’ll have to save my review for a little later … I will say that this move is NOT to be missed! The 3D elements of this film make it so freakin’ awesome, make your plans to see it in 3D now — I promise you won’t be disappointed. Jaime King looked utterly amazing on the red carpet … and completely different than she looks in the film. You Twilighters may recognize Edi Gathegi as Laurent from the Twilight movie … he plays a deputy in the flick. Man, you’re gonna have to check out my review of the film a little later on … D and I loved it so much — all movies should be in 3D! More soon …
