The film's stars rally around La Lohan
‘Machete’ Premieres In Hollywood

The various stars of the Mexploitation film Machete, directed by Robert Rodriguez, came out to The Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, CA last night for the film’s premiere … save for one very famous notorious castmember. Lindsay Lohan, who enjoyed her first full day of freedom from jail and rehab yesterday, was not in attendance at last night’s premiere event for Machete despite the fact that she is featured in the film. Her fellow co-stars, tho, expressed their support for the troubled young starlet and spoke well of her on the red carpet last night. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals last night and some deets of the support shown for L. Lo by her Machete co-stars:

Judging by her talent on display in the new movie Machete, Lindsay Lohan has a great shot at rekindling her movie career, her costars said Wednesday at a screening in Los Angeles. “Lindsay is so good in the movie, and I can’t wait for her to see it,” Jessica Alba, 29, told PEOPLE on the red carpet. “It’s awesome. She’s great. I’m very proud.” Director Robert Rodriguez echoed that sentiment. “I can’t wait for her to see it,” he said. “She’s awesome in the movie. She’s going to enjoy it a lot. … She can do anything she wants [in this business]. This movie is so great for her. I think she’s got a lot of talent, obviously. So, it’s all up to her.” … Danny Trejo, who plays the title character in Machete, forecast only good things for Lohan. “Lindsay’s gonna be cool. She knows it. I know it,” he says. “You know, she got in a little trouble, and now she’s had a little time to put her head together. She’ll be alright. We’ll pick her up again.” While not addressing Lohan’s situation directly, another Machete cast member, Michelle Rodriguez, talked about overcoming problems as a young actress. The former Lost star, 32, has a remarkably similar story to Lohan’s, having spent time in jail herself for violating probation in a DUI case. “This crazy little party girl who loves to enjoy life actually has a purpose,” Rodriguez said. “So, that’s really the core of why I’ve survived so many years and I can go and I can fall down and I can get back up. Why? Because I know why I’m here.” She adds: “That’s the question that a lot of people need to answer when they do fall is, ‘Why am I here?’ If you can answer that question, you’ll be able to dust yourself off and shine like a phoenix out of ashes.”

Judging from these comments alone, it sounds like Lindsay has a lot of support and a lot of people pulling for her. While I am not convinced in the slightest that she is truly ready to turn her life around, I like to think that the positive vibes put out by these very kind people might have a positive affect on her. Time will tell, but no matter how much good other people want for Lindsay she won’t get any of it unless she puts in the work herself.

But, enough about her. Machete will open in theaters on September 3 and judging by the red band trailer that was released back in May, it looks absolutely kick ass! After the jump, check out the trailer again for a little refresher …

The 2010 World Music Awards Are Handed Out

Celebs of varying stature made their way to the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo, Monaco yesterday to attend the 2010 World Music Awards. The awards show was co-hosted by Heroes star Hayden Panettiere and Lost star Michelle Rodriguez for no discernible reason clear to me, other than the fact that they were available. While I have no idea what either one of these actresses have to do with the celebration of World Music, I’m sure they did a decent job hosting. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets about the event itself:

2010 World Music Awards was kicked off on Tuesday, May 18 at the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Held to honor those in music, the event welcomed not only musicians but also actors, athletes and models. Hayden Panettiere, who served as co-host at the event with Michelle Rodriguez, wowed people with her simple look. The “Heroes” beauty covered herself in an Emilio Pucci short dress matched with open-toed shoes while her hair was pinned up. Jennifer Lopez, who was honored with an achievement award for her contribution to music, came with the companion of her husband Marc Anthony. The singer/actress bared her cleavage and back in a full-length Roberto Cavalli animal print gown. Giving a different color on the red carpet were the members of Scorpions who graced the red carpet with their rocker style. Meanwhile, Italian tenor singer Andrea Bocelli chose a formal white-and-black outfit, which was in contrast with Pharrell Williams’ casual style in a jacket and a baseball cap. Also seen among the attendees were Paris Hilton and Nicky Hilton who were joined by other family members, including brother Barron as well as parents Kathy and Rick. Heavyweight boxer Wladimir Klitschko and model Karolina Kurkova additionally showed up at the event.

Jennifer Lopez, will.i.am and Pharell were among the artists who performed last night as well:

I have to say, the World Music Awards annually confuses and confounds me. I’m not exactly sure what the parameters are for winning a World Music Award but each year the show manages to pull together the strangest groupings of celebs. I suppose congratulations are in order for the winners … I mean, I guess.

Coachella Day 3: Gorillaz In Da Mist

And so … the 3-day Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has come to another close. For Day 3 yesterday, acts like Thom Yorke (of Radiohead fame), Julian Casablancas (of The Strokes), Little Boots and Sly Stone rocked the fest while the British “animated” band Gorillaz closed out the weekend with their headline set. Here are some photos from the Coachella stage yesterday and some deets about the overall festival, which — for 2010 — is already dunzo!

The three-day Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is playing to sellout crowds this weekend and shattering attendance records, festival officials said. The Goldenvoice-promoted festival, now in its 11th year, is drawing a record 75,000 people per day to the Empire Polo Club in the desert community of Indio, up nearly 15,000 from last year’s daily average. But the record attendance and a later curfew — 1 a.m. instead of midnight — weren’t the only new wrinkles in the festival. Promoters found themselves worrying about the eruption of an Icelandic volcano and its massive ash cloud, which halted flights in and out of Britain and northern Europe. A festival spokeswoman said seven artists were grounded in Britain, including Chicago’s Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, which had been on tour in Europe. British rock bands the Cribs and Frightened Rabbit were among those unable to get to the U.S. for the festival. “We would have taken any slot, any time, just to play this festival,” said Frightened Rabbit’s Scott Hutchison. “If you’re playing to people who’ve come to see you at a club show, the battle has been won.” The band had a prime Friday afternoon slot, and was counting on Coachella to increase its standing in the U.S. “This is bad for us on all levels,” Hutchison said. “We were about to head out on a U.S. tour, and this would have been a good way to get a few more fans on board.” Getting to Coachella wasn’t easy, even for those in Southern California. Traffic was at a near-standstill for much of Friday afternoon, as the four-mile route from the 10 Freeway to the venue was at a crawl throughout the day. Once they parked, fans spoke of hour-plus waits to get into the gates. Henry Conklin, a 19-year-old New York University student, said his friend paid a woman $40 to cut in line. Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron confirmed reports that a small number of ticketless fans had jumped the gate, but police made only 12 arrests Friday, and all were alcohol- or drug-related. Despite the increase in attendance, the arrest number was on pace to be down slightly from last year, when 69 arrests were made throughout the weekend. Police were also adjusting to the later curfew. After Goldenvoice was slapped with more than $50,000 in fines last year when headliner Paul McCartney played past the midnight deadline, the company won approval to extend Friday and Saturday curfew to 1 a.m. As a compromise, the department said Goldenvoice’s country-music Stagecoach festival will end at 11 p.m. rather than midnight next weekend. Even with longer hours and five stages of music, many festivalgoers had to strain for a glimpse of the more hotly anticipated acts. Up-and-coming rock group Yeasayer and beloved electronic act La Roux were performing at one of Coachella’s three tent-covered side stages, which overflowed in the afternoon heat, keeping many fans 30 or more feet away from snaring a glimpse of the artists. Yet the mood on the grounds was far from tense. Attendees were eager to brave the heat and lines for a Friday-night headlining set from one of music’s biggest stars, hip-hop artist Jay-Z. He had an unbilled, A-list surprise guest in tow — his pop-star wife, Beyonce.

And that, my good friends, is that. Coachella 2010 is already in the books and the countdown has begun for next year’s music fest. It’s crazy how things like this tend to come and go in the blink of an eye. Even still, it just does not sound all that fun to fight the growing crowds in the desert just to stand around and watch a shortened concert performance from a great distance. I bet most of the fun is just being there but, yeah, if I’m gonna see a band play … I want to actually see the band play. In any event, Day 3 was well-attended by music fans and celebs alike. After the jump, check out some photos of some of the roving celebs who attended the Coachella festival yesterday …
