Twilight star Taylor Lautner is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Men’s Health magazine but it is his trainer Jordan Yuam who spoke to the mag about Tay Tay’s training regime. Here is Taylor’s Men’s Health cover and some excerpts from Yaum’s interview:

Walk into any gym, and you’ll see the same thing: Lots of guys doing lots of reps of just one or two abs exercises. “And that’s one reason why so few of them have six packs,” says Jordan Yuam, NCEP, who helped actor Taylor Lautner pack on 30 pounds of lean muscle (and a monster six-pack) for the blockbuster film New Moon. “Your abs are like every other muscle in your body, and the same rules of muscle-building apply.” In practice, that means targeting your core no more than three days a week (on non-consecutive days), and hitting it with a variety of exercises that work every muscle between your hips and chest. Here are five moves that helped Lautner land the number one spot on Access Hollywood’s “Top 5 Hollywood Abs” list. Weave them into your own workouts for similarly impressive results. And if you want maximum gains in minimal time “superset them,” advises Jordan. “Pick two exercises, and do sets of each back to back without rest in between.”

Lawd, this sounds like a lot of work … none of it fun … but considering the pay off, I can understand why some guys subject themselves to this kind of torture. After the jump, check out a couple photos of Taylor Lautner from his Men’s Health photoshoot and read more horribly unfun-sounding ways to build muscle mass …

Physioball Pikes
Assume a pushup position with your arms completely straight (your hands should be slightly wider than, and in line with, your shoulders). Rest your shins on a physioball, so that your body forms a straight line from your head to your ankles. Without bending your knees, roll the physioball toward your body by raising your hips as high as you can. Pause, then return the ball to the starting position by lowering your hips and rolling the ball backward. Do three to four sets of 8 to 12 reps.

Reverse Crunches
Lie face up on the floor with your palms facing down. Bend your hips and knees 90 degrees. Raise your hips off the floor and crunch them inward. Pause, and then slowly lower your legs until your heels neatly touch the floor. Do three sets of 15 reps.

Physioball Leg curl
Lie on the floor with your calves on a Swiss ball and your arms at your sides. Squeeze your glutes to raise your hips off the floor so your body is in a straight line from your shoulders to your ankles. Pause for a second, and then bend your legs to roll the ball toward your butt. Straighten your legs to roll the ball back out away from you, and then lower your body to the floor. Do three to four sets of 10 to 12 reps.

Hanging Leg Raises
Grab a chin-up bar with an overhand, shoulder-width grip (or use elbow supports, if available), and hang from the bar with your knees slightly bent and feet together. Simultaneously bend your knees, raise your hips, and curl your lower back underneath you as you lift your thighs toward your chest. Pause when the fronts of your thighs reach your chest, and then slowly lower your legs back to the starting position. Do three to four sets of 8 to 12 reps.

Prone Cobra
Lie facedown on the floor with your legs straight and your arms next to your sides, palms down. Contract your glutes and the muscles of your lower back, and raise your head, chest, arms, and legs off the floor. Simultaneously rotate your arms so that your thumbs point toward the ceiling. At this time, your hips should be the only parts of your body touching the floor. Hold this position for 60 seconds, then rest one minute. Repeat three times.

Yeah, to be honest, I don’t even know what half of these words mean … so, instead I’ll just look at the purdy pictures. It’s a shame about all the clothes tho … tsk tsk. Well, at least now we know what Taylor Lautner had to do to get into shape for New Moon. I’d say all that hard work paid off, yes?

A few week’s ago we learned that Taylor Kitsch, who can be seen as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in theaters now, was featured on the cover and in the pages of the April issue of Men’s Health magazine. By some tragic happenstance, I totally missed posting Taylor’s extensive (and very fleshy) photoshoot that was published in the mag … an error that I must now remedy. Here is a batch of hawt photos of Mr. Kitsch from this issue of Men’s Health:

MMM MMM MMM. Oh … and there is more where this came from. After the jump, check out another batch of photos that show Taylor Kitsch looking even hotter (if you can believe that) …

Wow, these are great pics. While it’s unfortunate that I didn’t come upon these photos sooner … better late than never is better than not at all. Taylor is a definite hottie. It’s a shame we don’t get to see this side of him in the new X-Men movie … I know I, for one, would love to see more.

Zac Efron’s new film 17 Again opens in theaters today as does Jason Statham’s new film Crank: High Voltage … but the competition between these two gentlemen doesn’t end there. Zac Efron, as we are well aware, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of GQ magazine and in his photospread is photographed doing the “human flag” on a parking meter. Jason Statham is featured in the new issue of Men’s Health magazine and is also photographed doing the “human flag”. Here is a side-by-side comparison of the shirtless hunks showing their physical prowess …

So the question becomes … which guy is the hotter of the two? While Zac has youth and a full head of hair on his side, Jason has the advantage of being able to do the most extreme version of the human flag by fully extending his arms. It’s a tough choice … but I gotta know which side you fall on. Are you Team Jason or Team Zac?

Taylor Kitsch, star of the NBC’s Little Engine that Could TV series Friday Night Lights and the upcoming superhero flick X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Men’s Health magazine. Considering that Kitsch is a studly certified personal trainer (which I did not know before reading this article), he seems the perfect kind of chap to be featured in this mag. Here is Taylor’s coverphoto and a portion of his coverstory:

Taylor Kitsch was a hockey player as he was growing up in Canada. Now he’s a certified personal trainer and plays a stud running back in Friday Night Lights. So he knows that conditioning means more than pushing iron at the gym, although he loves that, too. If he stuck to only one routine, he’d miss out on new ways to shape up. And he certainly wouldn’t have joined a down-and-dirty boxing gym in Austin, Texas, the city he calls home. But that’s where Kitsch, 28, now works out regularly. He ramped up his boxing while prepping for the role of Gambit, the card-throwing, combative mutant in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In the ring, he goes as hard as he can for 3 minutes, takes a minute off, and then repeats. This approach now infiltrates all of the actor’s cardio sessions, boxing or otherwise. “Keeping up that pace revs my metabolism and keeps it there all day,” says Kitsch. The result: more stamina, to be sure, but also cobblestone abs. Studies have shown that short interval training burns more fat than long, steady-state cardio sessions do. But you don’t have to don gloves to fortify your own workouts with the principles of pugilism. Just follow Kitsch’s model: high-intensity interval training; rapid-fire changes; and an emphasis on all-around conditioning. It works wonders for any sport, in any gym, with any workout.

Yeah, it sounds like a lot of hard work to get into shape … I’m glad I don’t have to bother with such nonsense. But I am very glad that hotties like Taylor Kitsch do worry about such things so … let’s read on. After the jump, check out another photo of Taylor from this issue of Men’s Health and learn his work-out tips so that YOU TOO can get into superhero shape …

Fight for a Better Body

1. Twist your core
As Gambit, Kitsch brandishes a 6-foot staff favored by martial artists, and hours of practice with it helped condition his rock-hard abs. “All that twisting worked my core like crazy,” Kitsch says. To mimic the move without getting splinters, do reverse cable woodchoppers. Attach a rope handle to the low pulley on a cable stack, bend at the waist and knees, and reach across your body to grab the handle with both hands. Next, forcefully bring it up and across your body as you simultaneously stand up. Do 10 repetitions, reverse your body position, and do 10 more reps.

2. Sync yourself
Gambit’s playing cards may rank among the least intimidating superhero weapons of all time, and we doubt card throwing is your top fitness goal. But every guy can benefit from good hand-eye coordination and a powerful release. Use a speed bag to develop both. Strike the bag by windmilling your fists in small, forward circles; keep your hands in front of your face and stare at them, not the bag, to keep them from drifting. Once you’ve punched the bag, allow it to hit the back part of the platform, rebound, and ricochet off the back part a second time before hitting it again.

3. Mix it up
If Kitsch does one routine for too long, he becomes bored. So he moves around the boxing gym, jumping rope and hitting the speed bag and heavy bag. Boxing also has mental benefits. “Nothing keeps you more alert than having punches thrown at you,” he says.

Um, I dunno how practical these tips really are but it is a very jovial way to incorporate Taylor’s Gambit role into this piece on working out. Well done! I think I’ll leave the heavy duty physical fitness routines to the pros … and I’ll just admire the photos. Who’s with me?

Ryan Reynolds, husband of Scarlett Johansson and all-around hottie, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Men’s Health magazine. Folks familiar with Men’s Health know that the dudes featured in the mag’s pages are usually half-to-mostly nekkid … sadly, that is not the case with these new pics of Ryan. Check out these hot, yet, fully clothed photos of Ryan Reynolds:

Altho the man is wearing clothing covering every part of his body (damnit) he does look very handsome in his attire. The good news is that that this issue of Men’s Health has two covers … and Ryan is featured on both. After the jump, check out the other cover of Men’s Health magazine that features Ryan Reynolds and a couple extra photos from insde the mag …

Blah! More clothes … but also more leather, so, not bad. I really love the photos of Ryan on his hog. I am not a big motorcycle fan but I can appreciate a man who can appreciate the motorcycle. While these photos are all well and good, I’d much prefer it if the next time Ryan is featured in a men’s fitness mag that more attention is paid to his hot (barely dressed) bod. I mean, it seems only right.

Cam Giganet, who stars as hottie badvamp James in the new Twilight movie, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Men’s Health magazine. Men’s Health, as some of you are well aware, tends to put only the hottest, most fit celebs on their covers (like David Beckham, thank you very much) and this month is no exception … behold:

Cam talks to the magazine about how he handles fear when it comes to working in showbiz saying, “You’re selling a product that happens to be yourself. That brings out so many insecurities. There’s so much fear of failure because it’s so rampant, it’s everywhere. It was paralyzing to the point where I couldn’t get work or enjoy anything. To get where I am, I had to learn to live with fear. It’s all fear. You have to let go of that and keep moving forward.” He also talks about his stint working on The O.C. and being happy & contented in the moment, “Well, you can always do what the O.C. kids did and hate your work. When I was on that show, they all just wanted to go on and do bigger things. I imagine that’s hard. You can be as frustrated as you want, but you still have to show up for work. People don’t want to hear about it if you’re frustrated with your big career break. You still have to have a sense of gratitude and professionalism no matter what you do. I’ve been mad at everyone and everything at times. Deal with it at home.” And, of course, he talks to the mag about how he stays in shape … which is less important to me … I’m just interested in gawking at how “in shape” he is ;) After the jump, check out one more (dreamy) photo of Cam from this month’s issue of Men’s Health magazine …

Those smoldering eyes, that perfect mouth — I think he is the definition of a dreamboat. It’s a shame that he keeps playing bad guy/a-holes (most recently in the movie Never Back Down which came out earlier this year) cuz I kinda want to root for him instead of hating him. Ah well … I guess, for now, he’ll just be the guy we LURVE to hate ;)

Men’s Health magazine has chosen David Beckham to grace the cover of the September issue of their mag (due out on newsstands August 16). The issue features a pretty cool photoshoot of Becks engaged in a good ol’ fashioned workout in a Rockyesque gym circa the 1920s. Here is one of two covers of the new issue of Men’s Health magazine which features our dear Becks:

Wooo, he looks good. After the jump, check out the alternate magazine cover, a few pics from his old school photoshoot and a few quotes from the coverstory interview …

Superstar David Beckham opens up in the September issue of Men’s Health magazine, on newsstands August 12, 2008, about his unique formula for success. Having reached the one year milestone of playing for Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy, Beckham reflects on bringing notoriety to “football” and to U.S. fans across the pond, choosing his kids over sports, the importance of training in his overall success, and the “madness” that constantly surrounds his family. At age 13, Beckham was discouraged from pursuing soccer from a teacher when he was told, “You’ll never play for England, because you’re too small and not strong enough.” It was those words that set Beckham on a path to change the sport forever.

On juggling family and sports: “There is this madness around me, around my family. Without a doubt, out on the field is where I’m most comfortable, where I’m happiest, because I know what I’m doing, and I know I can do it.”

“People always ask me, ‘Do you play golf?’ Because a majority of sportsmen do. I used to play, quite a few years ago, but to be honest, I’d rather spend 4 hours with the kids than 4 hours on a golf course. As much as it can be relaxing, it’s a frustrating sport. My way of relaxing is listening to music and spending time with the kids.”

On the growing popularity of soccer in America: “I never do anything where I don’t believe in what I’m doing. I see that something could happen in U.S. soccer. That change isn’t going to happen in a year or two. It’s more of a 5-, 10-, or even 15-year plan. I believe in it, and I believe that in years to come, this could be one of the biggest sports here in America.”

On training and handling stress: “I’m a really bad loser. It stays with me for a while. I always take it quite personally when we don’t win as a team or I don’t win in everything else I do.”

“I don’t worry about any other players. I’ve always concentrated on what my job is more than anything, more than how good the other team is, no matter who the opponent is-even off the field. If you do your job, then there’s nothing else.”

“Preseason if where you get the stability for the rest of the season. I’ll never perform at my highest level unless I’m 100 percent fit. That’s one of my biggest attributes, the energy I’ve got on the field. For me, training is as important as the games.”

“My game’s all about moving around the pitch. I went through a stage a few years ago where I lifted a lot of weights and put on about a stone [about 14 pounds] and ended up not being able to run.”

On his superstar status: “To be someone kids look up to is a great honor. What matters is how you carry yourself, off and on the field.”

“People always say to me, ‘Why would you place yourself in a position where you have to put pressure on yourself?’ But it’s what gives me energy. I know what I’m doing.”

On what motivated his success: Beckham credits his father with helping him harness his focus. “Even if I had a great game he’s always say, ‘You played well, but these were the mistakes you made.’ If I had a bad game, I’d hear all about that. When I was playing for Manchester United, playing something like 200 games and winning European Cup finals, he still wouldn’t let me get away with saying, ‘I’ve made it.’ So that’s one thing I have never done and never will do.”

“You’ll never play for England, because you’re too small and not strong enough,” Beckham heard these words from a soccer player at age 13, which led him to his professional career in “football.”

Now this is a kickass magazine photoshoot. Sure, the semi-nekkid, undies-only pics are superhawt to look at but I like the theme and tone of these photos. Becks can even look sexy while wearing entire outfits (ie. he doesn’t have to be nekkid to have sex appeal). I always find it interesting the way these men’s workout magazines are marketed … clearly, they are meant to appeal to men but the images included monthly have a flair about them that I would think might not sell well to manly men. In any event, Becks can’t tone down his hawtness no matter what he does so I guess it doesn’t really matter how he is presented. I really think this is the best magazine spread that Becks has done in a long time (if, overall). Don’t you love it?

Now see, Aaron Eckhart is one of those hot men that is classically handsome in that “guy next door” sort of way. He’s got a great smile which makes him look approachable and Hollywood good looks that will take him far in the biz. I am very happy that he has been cast in the new Batman franchise. Like Christian Bale in the lead role, I am very much looking forward to many years ahead of seeing Eckhart on the big screen in future Batman movies.
