Gyllenhaal Family Reunion
Jake Gyllenhaal Hangs Out With His Family In NYC

Last weekend we saw photos of Jake Gyllenhaal clean-shaven and soaking up the sun here in SoCal. Today we get to see photos of Jake growing out his beard again as he freezes his buns off in NYC. Jakey poo made his way back East to meet up with his family — mother Naomi Foner, sister Maggie Gyllenhaal and bro-in-law Peter Sarsgaard — to attend the off-Broadway opening of Three Sisters which stars his big sis and her husband. It was a good ol’ fashioned Gyllenhaal family reunion.

No Jake, No Coffee, Still Weird
Taylor Swift Hangs Out With Maggie Gyllenhaal

It appears that Jake isn’t the only Gyllenhaal that Taylor Swift likes to hang out with … cuz US Weekly brings us a previously unseen photo of Taylor hangin’ out on Thanksgiving with Jake‘s older sister Maggie Gyllenhaal and her daughter Ramona. As you are all WELL aware, Taylor spent part of her Thanksgiving in the (IMHO, posed) arm of Jake Gyllenhaal but as this photo makes clear, she spent part of her Thanksgiving with Maggie and Ramona as well:

Maggie Gyllenhaal had an extra reason to be thankful this year: She got to spend Thanksgiving with her brother Jake and his new sudden squeeze, Taylor Swift. The new Us Weekly (on newsstands now) has the first photos of the two lovebirds taking a stroll in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood, where Maggie, 33, and her family live. Asked how the day went, Maggie told UsMagazine.com Thursday at the Focus For Change benefit in NYC: “Great.” She paused when asked what makes her brother, 29, such a great guy, prompting her husband, Peter Sarsgaard, to tell Us: “Why is Jake a wonderful guy? Because he’s an adventurer!”

At this point, I expect we’ll soon be seeing photos of Taylor hanging out with Jake‘s divorcing parents next. I mean … doesn’t this all seem a bit too much? Doesn’t all of this sudden happy togetherness seem like a publicist’s wet dream? I simply cannot shake the feeling that this just seems much too perfect, really convenient and … WEIRD! I just can’t buy it. Personal feelings aside, this Taylor/Jake thing just keeps getting odder by day. I mean … really? Maggie likes hanging out with Taylor Swift? C’mon …

The 2,416th
Emma Thompson Gets A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Veteran actress Emma Thompson, whose new film Nannie McPhee Returns opens in theaters this Friday, was honored with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last week. Emma received the 2,416th star which was placed right in front of the Pig & Whistle Pub on Hollwood Blvd., a placement that thrilled her to no end:

“I’m right outside a pub, which couldn’t be better because I love pubs and I love drinking. Not something that you can easily admit to in Los Angeles because no one drinks here and they’re very puritanical about it, which I don’t approve of because it’s a very spiritual activity,” the Academy-award winner joked. Fellow British actor Hugh Laurie was on hand to help honour his friend, although he revealed slightly more than Emma may have liked. “We actually stepped out briefly together as teenagers, until she dumped me for a mime artist,” he said. Emma’s Nanny McPhee co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal also posed for pictures when the star was unveiled on Friday.

Despite this latest honor recognizing her body of acting work, Thompson also revealed at her Walk of Fame ceremony that she plans to celebrate this latest achievement by taking a bit of a break from acting:

“Next year, I’m going to take a sabbatical. I’m not going to fund raise or perform or travel, except in pursuit of new vistas with my family. I’ve been meaning to do this for a long, long time, but it’s been like putting the brakes on a large ship because there is so much going on.” And she admits her longtime battle with “mild depression” has contributed to her decision to take an extended vacation. Thompson says, “I find the job I do emotionally very demanding. “I suffer from occasional mild depression, which I think is a very common thing… and it’s a very much hidden thing people don’t talk about. I think it should be discussed.”

Wow. I had no idea that she suffered from depression but it sounds like she’s got the right plan to take care of herself better so that her affliction can be better controlled. Emma Thompson is one of those actresses who is always a delight to see on screen when she pops up here and there. The folks who dole out the stars on the Walk of Fame don’t always get it right when they select honorees … but they deffo got it right by honoring Emma Thompson!

'Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire' wins BIG!
The 2010 Film Independent’s Spirit Awards Are Handed Out

Last night, at the Nokia Theater at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles, CA, the 25th annual Film Independent’s Spirit Awards were handed out in a fairly lavish ceremony just days before the Academy Awards are handed out in Hollywood. Known as the Indie Oscars, the Spirit Awards annually honor the independent films and filmmakers made in the year prior. This year, the indie film Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was the big winner, taking home 5 awards — including Best Female Lead, Best Supporting Female, Best Director and Best Feature!!! Now, I should point out that The Hurt Locker was not in contention for Spirit Awards this year due to a glitch in the awards show rules. It was nominated last year, months before the film was ever released … which meant, naturally, that it has no chance of winning because none of the voters had even heard of the film. But, Hurt Locker‘s loss was deffo Precious‘s gain. Here are some photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets about what went down at the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards last night:

The harrowing drama “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” was the big winner Friday evening at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which was held in a tent on L.A. Live’s event deck in downtown Los Angeles. The film about a pregnant African American teenager and her abusive mother won best feature, best director for Lee Daniels, best first screenplay for Geoffrey Fletcher, best female lead for Gabourey Sidibe and best supporting female for Mo’Nique. Daniels basked in his win away from his fellow Oscar nominees. “Kathryn Bigelow’s not here tonight,” he said. “I am.” “Precious” is nominated for Academy Awards in many of the same categories, with Mo’Nique considered the odds-on favorite to receive best supporting actress Sunday evening at the Kodak Theatre. Mo’Nique’s acceptance speech wasn’t as emotional as some of her other winning speeches this awards season, but she did take a special moment to acknowledge her co-star Sidibe, telling her, “You are a special gift to the universe, baby.” Presenter Ben Stiller, noting the ceremony’s late hour and the independent nature of the assembled crowd, brought half-naked porn stars onstage to writhe in sexual positions while he read the nominees for best film. On Friday, best male lead went to Oscar nominee Jeff Bridges for his moving performance as a dissolute country singer in “Crazy Heart.” The role has won Bridges numerous awards this season, including honors from the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild. Bridges gave a rambling speech in which he thanked many people and told the crowd, ” ‘Crazy Heart’ is a gem of an independent film.” “Crazy Heart,” directed by Scott Cooper, also won the Spirit prize for best first feature. Robert Duvall, who came to the stage with Cooper, told the crowd that the latter hadn’t directed so much as a high school play before this film. “But,” Duvall added, “he does a great job.” Woody Harrelson, also an Oscar contender, won for supporting male for “The Messenger.” Screenplay honors went to Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber for “(500) Days of Summer.” Roger Deakins received the cinematography award for “A Serious Man.” “An Education” won best foreign film, and “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” took documentary honors … The third annual Robert Altman Award, which is given to a film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast, went to Joel and Ethan Coen’s “A Serious Man” … The Spirit Awards, which honor independent and original filmmaking, have traditionally been held on the Saturday afternoon before the Oscars in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica. But the show moved to Friday evening at L.A. Live this year in celebration of the awards’ 25th anniversary.

Many, many congrats goes out to Precious … while I’m certain that Mo’Nique will represent the film at the Academy Awards tomorrow night, it’s clear that last night’s Spirit Awards was the film’s biggest night to shine. It’s a shame that The Hurt Locker got shut out due to a set of janky rules (which will, very likely, be amended for next year’s show) but I’m very happy to see Precious enjoy it’s time in the sun. After the jump, check out some photos from the press room and from backstage at the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards last night …

Raising money for Haiti
Celebs Come Out To See Radiohead In Concert

On Friday we learned that Radiohead had announced a last minute, impromptu live concert performance at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, CA to raise money for Haitian relief. The tickets were sold via Ticketmaster by auction and the show took place last night. A few celebs, like couples Maggie Gyllenhaal & Peter Sarsgaard and Anna Paquin & Stephen Moyer came out for the show which, according to LAist, raised over half a million dollars for the people of Haiti:

Late Thursday Radiohead announced that it would perform a charity show benefiting the survivors of the devastating January 12th earthquake in Haiti. The tickets were made available via a Ticketmaster auction which ended with a final minimum bid of $475 (meaning many secured their tickets for $450). Some went above and beyond as the proceeds were going to Oxfam America’s Haiti Relief Fund and the high bid was $2,000 per ticket (for either 2 or 4 tickets), according to the band. All in all more than $572,000 was raised in fans’ donations and it was an unforgettable, intimate gig for all at the 1,300-capacity theater.

It truly sounds like a special night … not only because the setlist looked AMAZING but because so many people gave so generously to help the affected people of Haiti. After the jump, check out the setlist in full …

Family vacay
The Gyllenhaals Do Paris, France

Here are a few cute pics of Jake Gyllenhaal with his older sister Maggie Gyllenhaal and her hubby Peter Sarsgaard chillin’ out and shopping together at the Saint-Ouen flea market on a lazy afternoon in Paris, France over the weekend:

These days it’s pretty rare to see Jakey poo out with anyone other than his ladylove Reese Witherspoon but he managed to wrestle himself away from her presence in order to spend time fraternizing with his sister and her husband for an afternoon. It looks like a very nice and relaxing afternoon with family … and hey, any photos of Jake sans Reese are winners in my book :)

GyllenGaard make it official!
Maggie Gyllenhaal & Peter Sarsgaard Got Hitched!

After getting together back in 2002, getting quietly engaged in early 2006 and having their first child together (Ramona) later that same year, longtime couple Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard finally tied the knot this past weekend in a small wedding ceremony in Brindisi, Italy with family and friends in attendance. Here are a couple pics of the happy couple on their wedding day this past Saturday and some deets about their surprise nuptials. They got hitched, y’all:

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard made it official on Saturday: The longtime couple, who have a daughter together, tied the knot in a romantic wedding in Italy. “We are happy to confirm that Maggie and Peter were married on Saturday, May 2,” the actress’s rep said in a statement to PEOPLE. The celebration took place in a small chapel in Brindisi, according to European news reports. Among the guests were Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon … In March, Gyllenhaal celebrated her impending nuptials with a bridal shower attended by friends, including Witherspoon, a source tells PEOPLE. Gyllenhaal, 31, and Sarsgaard, 38, are parents to daughter Ramona, 2 ½. The couple announced their pregnancy and engagement exclusively to PEOPLE in 2006 after being together for more than four years. The pair costarred in 2003′s In God’s Hands, a low-budget feature produced by Steven Soderbergh.

I have to say that I really believed that GyllenGaard was one of those couples (like Brangelina, for instance) that I never thought would get hitched. They seemed like the kind of couple that seemed totally uninterested in legalizing their relationship and were happy with their own personal commitment to one another. A three year engagement is a long one … I’m happy to know that they finally decided to go thru with their wedding. While it’s very nice that Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon were in attendance at his sister’s nuptials, I hope they didn’t get any funny ideas from the ceremony. In any event, much love and congrats goes out to the happy couple! May they live a long and healthy life together in happily wedded bliss!

Uncle Jakey poo!
Jake Gyllenhaal Spends Quality Time With Niece Ramona

Here are a few photos of Jake Gyllenhaal with his older sister Maggie Gyllenhaal and her daughter (his niece) Ramona enjoying some quality playtime together at a playground in Central Park in NYC recently and then out for lunch together at Ammo restaurant here in LA just this past Wednesday:

Curiously, we don’t usually get to see many photos of Jakey poo playing with or even carrying his niece Ramona very much. The little girl has grown so much, she’s a big kid now, and to my recollection these are among the first photos that I’ve seen of Jake with Ramona (I’m pretty certain we’ve never seen Jake with Ramona alone babysitting … mama Maggie is always present). I’m sure they spend a lot of time together often but nosomuch in public. Perhaps the time that Jake has spent in the company of Reese Witherspoon‘s children has got him interested in hanging out with as many kids as possible. Might there be a little Jakey poo in the near future? In any event, I’m sure Jake is a great uncle and it’s cute to see him with kids … tho, I’m not sure I’m ready to see him with his own kids … not with Reese anyways … but mebbe someday. ‘Til then, I’m just fine seeing Jake with other people’s kids … even if it is every once in a blue moon.

Worldwide domination continues
‘The Dark Knight’ Premieres In Japan

Christian Bale (with his beautiful wife Sibi by his side), Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart and director Christopher Nolan were all on hand at the Tokyo International Forum in Tokyo yesterday for the Japanese premiere of Batman: The Dark Knight. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals at yesterday’s premiere:

First, I think it’s amazing seeing Christian Bale smiling again. He looks so happy … even tho I’m sure that the memory of his recent embarrassing incident with his estranged family members is still fresh in his mind, he looks great — as if he’s already moved well beyond that dark incident. I think it’s pretty safe to say that The Dark Knight is pretty much on track to fully conquer the world. It’s already well on it’s way to becoming the most successful film in US box office history (it looks like the Titanic is going to sink again) and is also proving to be a big hit all around the world. I’m anxious to get back to the States to see it again … next time, on IMAX. And the TDK juggernaut rolls on …

Batman comes to Great Britain
‘The Dark Knight’ Premieres In The UK

Batman: The Dark Knight had its UK premiere at Odeon Leicester Square in London, England last night where the principal stars (including Christian Bale, who has been since arrested for alleged assault against his mother and sister) came out for the event. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals last night:

It’s hard to not think about the allegations against Christian Bale right now, especially when looking at photos of the man. In any event, everyone looked great on the red carpet … Maggie Gyllenhaal especially looked great in her sexy black dress. Here are a few pics of some of the other celebs who came out for the premiere:

As always, it’s nice to see the McFly boys out and about and how about that Kelly Osbourne. The girl see-saws between lookin’ really tragic to lookin’ really good — she looks pretty amazing these days, I think. I’m not sure what Ne-Yo was doing at the premiere (it’s a pretty random sighting) but I’m sure a good time was had by all. I am very much looking forward to hearing what folks in the UK and Europe think about The Dark Knight. After setting 8 box office records here in the US last weekend, I’m curious to see how the rest of the world will receive the film.
