Last night, in the pouring New York rain, I headed uptown to the Ziegfeld Theater on 54th Street for the screening of Madonna’s directorial debut, W.E. My gorgeous friend, Zoe, and I waited in line on the red carpet and got shivers as Madonna approached us, up close and personal… her stunning dress, her charisma, old Hollywood glamor, Madonna the icon is as magnificent as ever. There are few stars in her class.

Madonna was on hand at the Ziegfeld Theater Monday night for the NYC, NY premiere of her directorial debut film W.E. The regal-looking Madonna was joined on the red carpet by her W.E. stars Andrea Riseborough, James D’Arcy and others for the big event. After holding court both outside and inside on the red carpet, Maddy introduced the film to the assembled audience. It was a very emotional moment for her Madgesty because as she explained that the film is about the power of love she seemed to get choked up a bit … then she dedicated the film to her late mother … and she deffo got choked up. Last August we learned that Madonna is planning to hit the road with a new world tour this year. In November, we saw photos from an event held in NYC where a potential new dancer was chosen for Maddy’s upcoming tour. Today, courtesy of the fan site Madonnarama, we learn the FIRST tour date to be revealed of this 2012 tour. We don’t know yet when the tour will start but we do know that Madonna will perform concerts this July in Paris, France.

Early last month we got to see the first official promo video for Madonna‘s upcoming half time show performance during Super Bowl XLVI next month. Today we get to check out the just released new print promo ad for Maddy‘s SB performance. Madonna wasn’t the only Golden Globe Award winner last night … a whole host of other folks were honored with awards in both film and television. The show itself, I gotta say, wasn’t nearly as entertaining as last year’s show. By all accounts, host Ricky Gervais did not perform as successfully this year as he did last year … and I think that fact had a huge impact on the show overall. A lot of my fave actors won this year (Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep, Madonna) as did some of my fave TV shows (Homeland, FTW!) … but I think the French silent film The Artist was the biggest winner of the night. Popstar Madonna, who spent all last week promoting her new film W.E. and her new album M.D.N.A. in interviews both here in the US (on ABC News) and in the UK (on The Graham Norton Show), was in attendance at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards last night. Maddy was nominated for Best Original Song for her ballad Masterpiece (from her directorial debut film W.E.). Altho Elton John bitchily commented before the show that Madonna didn’t have “a fucking chance” at winning, Madonna DID win the award … over Elton John … who lost. After Elton‘s loss, his hubby David Furnish had bitchy things of his own to say … on Facebook. LOL! In the press room, Madonna (with Golden Globe in hand) was asked a host of questions … including questions pertaining to her upcoming new album. On Friday night, the Creative Arts Agency hosted a swanky pre-Golden Globes party at the SoHo House in West Hollywood, CA and brought out a veritable Who’s Who of celebs for the event. Madonna, fresh from her flight into town, made an appearance at the party and spent some of her precious time hanging out with actress BFF Demi Moore. Demi‘s soon-to-be ex-husband Ashton Kutcher was also at the event tho, I understand, his attendance had ZERO impact on Demi. Our dinner/hang plans with Gillian got axed last night so my Friday turned out to be a nice and quiet one. Since I had some free time, I decided to head over to Amoeba Records to pick up some replacement inner paper sleeves for some of my records … and naturally, I ended up spending quite a bit of time among the stacks and stacks of vinyl records there. I picked up a few great new records, many of which were less than $3 each. The rest of my night was spent listening to records, both new and old. It was a quiet yet very pleasant night in.

Last night ABC News aired the third and final segment of their interview with Madonna on the news program 20/20 last night and altho the bulk of the interview was focused on Maddy‘s directorial debut film W.E. (due out in theaters early next month), we did get a TASTE of some of her brand new music. The ABC cameras were allowed inside Madonna‘s recording studio (with producer Martin Solveig by her side) while she was working with M.I.A. on a new song (reportedly titled Birthday Song). Earlier this week, Madonna taped an episode of The Graham Norton Show in the UK and immediately news spread that she used the interview to announce to the world the title of her new album.
