Tyra Banks Gets Waxed … Again

This time NYC tries to immortalize her likeness
Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Earlier this month, the Washington DC branch of Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum unveiled a new wax statue of model/talk show host Tyra Banks … and now it’s the NYC branch of the Madam Tussaud’s family to give it a go. Here are a couple pics of the new NYC wax statue of Tyra alongside a couple pics of the real deal for comparison:

Yeah, I think the DC branch got it more right … this statue ain’t lookin’ all that hot. Especially when you consider that the London branch of Madam Tussaud’s was able to make Amy Winehouse look nice and healthy with their statue … how could the NYC branch do this to poor Tyra. The pics on the right are just horrible … er, oh wait … those are the real pics … um, yeah scratch what I just said … it’s a very nice statue ;)

Winehouse Vs. Waxwork

Take your pick
Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Amy Winehouse emerged from seclusion on the streets of London last night a couple of days after her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, was sentenced to 27 months in prison for attempting to pervert justice and a day after Madam Tussaud’s unveiled a wax statue in her honor … sadly, as usual, Amy was lookin’ quite messy, disheveled and totally frightful:

Glassy-eyed, matted beehive, blackened fingernails and scabbed skin. This is the real Amy Winehouse not captured by Madame Tussauds in their wax-brushed image of the troubled star. In their version of the chart-topping singer, Amy is seen with bright eyes, glossy hair, and glowing skin. The artists at Madame Tussauds must be losing their touch. Their wax version of Amy Winehouse doesn’t look like she’d even know how to start burning the candle at both ends. The remarkably fresh-faced figure was unveiled at the London waxworks yesterday to the delight of Miss Winehouse’s family. No doubt they’d never seen the troubled singer looking so well. Seen leaving her home last night with a coterie of hangers on, and with what looked like a marijuana joint in her mouth, the Rehab singer looked sweaty and disheveled as she got into a car to take her to the studio. It was the first time that Amy has been seen in public since it was announced that husband Blake is to serve 27 months for perverting the course of justice … Madame Tussauds believes Miss Winehouse, who stands next to models of Kylie Minogue and Michael Jackson, will be one of its most popular attractions. The 24-year- old singer is far from starstruck at the idea. “I thought you had to be dead almost before they made a waxwork of you,” she scoffed last week. Because she refused to pose for the artists, a team of 20 worked from a collection of photographs. It took more than four months to build. Yesterday, her father Mitch, who arrived with Miss Winehouse’s mother Janis, said he was “stunned” by the model.

Additionally, <strong>Mitch Winehouse joked with reporters that he would like to trade in the real Amy for the waxwork Amy — and you can see why. Not only will the wax statue have a longer shelf life but it looks much healthier than the real-live Amy does, too. Yikes.

Miley Cyrus Looks Waxy

Even better than the real thing
Friday, July 11th, 2008

The London branch of Madame Tussauds’ Wax Museum unveiled a new wax statue of Miley Cyrus this week which looks scarily lifelike. The London Madam Tussauds’ tends to commission the best-looking wax statues of many of the other branches of the museum (the NYC branch has a creepy lookin’ Miley statue). Here are a couple pics of the new Miley wax statue and a couple pics of the real Miley Cyrus (taken on the Malibu, CA set of Hanna Montana which is currently being filmed) for comparison:

In this instance, I think I prefer the fake Miley to the real Miley (not that I really have strong feelings about Miley Cyrus in general, but you see what I’m saying). The resemblance is pretty uncanny.

America’s Next Top Wax Statue

They did a damn good job on this one
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

The Washington DC branch of the Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum chain has just unveiled their new wax statue of Tyra Banks … cuz, you know, the seat of our nation’s government wouldn’t be complete without a wax statue that is the spitting image of this year’s Daytime Emmy Award winner for Best Informative Talk Show … behold:

Madam Tussaud’s usually does a great job with their wax statues but they’ve really outdone themselves with this one. In fact, this statue even looks more lifelike than the real life Tyra Banks. Should the woman ever need to take a sick day, they can just plop this bad boy right down on her couch and I doubt anyone would even notice. This statue even knows how to smile with its fake eyes! Now that’s talent, y’all.
