Madonna, the reigning Queen of Pop, turns 52 years old today but the original Material Girl started celebrating with family, friends and loved ones over the weekend in London, England. But, before we get to that … let’s all take a moment now to send some Birthday Lurve to our lady Madonna:

It’s kind of impossible to believe that Madonna is actually 52 but it’s true … the march of time stops for no man OR woman. Still, at 52, Madonna is showing no signs of slowing down. Not only has she just launched her first ever juniors clothing line called Material Girl (in collaboration with her first born child Lourdes Maria) but she is currently directing a new film titled W.E. Add to that the rumors that she is also working behind the scenes on her next album and you’ve got yourself a pretty full plate. But, despite all of this professional stuff going on in her life, Maddy did take time Saturday night to celebrate her birthday. Madonna was spotted on the set of the new film she is directing, a period piece titled W.E., in London, England over the weekend and see was wearing an outfit that looked inspired by her daughter Lourdes Maria‘s fashion sensibilities … which, of course, look to be inspired in turn by her mother’s fashion sensibilities from the 80′s. It was a veritable Fashion Circle of Life … behold:

Despite the fact that the color palette of these two outfits is black and white (rather than totally outrageous neon dayglo), I couldn’t help but be reminded that this one pant leg/one colored sock look seems very much inspired by the animated rockstar Pizzazz, leader of The Misfits from the 80′s cartoon Jem and the Holograms:

Because I love all things 80′s, I’m down with Madonna and Lola taking fashion cues from that decade and making them new again … even if Maddy is a bit long in the tooth to rock this look with any seriousness at all. But, we know one thing for sure … Madonna is a very cool mom. While Madonna has been bizzy scouting out and filming locations for the new movie she is directing (called W.E.) all over France, her children spent part of their weekend enjoying the amusement park at the Jardin Des Tuileries. It’s nice to see Lola take time from her new job working with her mother on their collaborative juniors clothing line called Material Girl so that she can enjoy a fun day at the park with her younger siblings. It’s really cute seeing the whole gang having fun on with the games and on the rides at Tuileries … especially since my BFF Sarah and I were just there ourselves a few weeks ago. We are just under a week away from the launch of Madonna‘s new juniors clothing line called Material Girl and already promo materials for the line featuring celebrity spokesmodel and Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen are popping up all over the place:

New behind-the-scenes photos and video from the ad campaign shoot have become available and show that Madonna and her daughter Lourdes Maria were very hands on during the shoot. OKEE, so I read a lot of your comments and I’m like uber happy you guys like my blog. A lot of you asked me what color I was dying my hair and it’s actually going to be like a kind of cherry blackish thingy bobbie. OH MY DAIZ. I went and saw Shrek n#4 with my brother the other day….Oh my god it was amazing, like you don’t truly understand until you see it. And the donkey is just soooo friggin legendary haaaaaaa. And if you haven’t seen it, get off the computer (after reading this of course), and go see it. So this week I’m listening to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack….don’t laugh – but I’m obsessed with it, ugh so good. Be My Baby is suuuuch a redonculous song. Also Florence + The Machine are amazing!! Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are great…two of the guys from her band look like Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord.LOL. I recently got really interested in the group Muse, which are like reee-heeaally good. They are BLINGING INNIT MATE (British ghetto talk, its air air LOL).

Last week we got our first look at sketches from Madonna‘s upcoming juniors fashion line called Material Girl and a day later we got to see the first teaser promo ad for the line. Today we get to see a cute promo model card for a young girl called Lola who will likely appear in the ad campaign for Material Girl so … meet Lola:

Helluuur thurrrr, I’m Lola and this is my first blog entry so it’s kind of like ummmm….

I’m just going to use this blog entry to tell y’all a little bit about myself. I’m 13 and I’ll be 14 in October, so I can’t wait for that because I am FINALLY allowed to dye my hair… THANK YOU MOTHER!! My favvvv color is black (just because it goes with everything) and my least favorite color is brown (because it resembles the color of something QUITE gross). I am totally obsessivo about 80’s shorts… You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in. It’s kinda nerdy but I love it. And the 80’s are another huge obsession of mine, which is totally amazingly awesome because Material Girl…HELLO! It’s like 80’s themed, which pretty much rocks, so yeah. I’m still in love with brogues or as some people call them “oxford shoes”. I haven’t found a good sandal so I’m on like a search right now.

Yes, folks, Lola is Madonna‘s eldest daughter Lourdes Maria‘s nickname. We already know that Lola has had a hand in the design process for Material Girl but it looks like she will be featured in the promo materials as well. You can follow the Material Girl blog HERE. It’s unclear if Lola will be updating the site with future posts but this blogpost is a good indication that we might get more posts from her in the coming weeks and months.

Madonna‘s little chick-a-dees Lourdes Maria, Rocco John, David Banda and Chifundo Mercy were spotted making their grand entrance into the Kabbalah Centre in London, England last night lookin’ ready to get their church on. All of the children were dressed in sparkling white outfits, save for one …

Now either Lola is far too cool to dress for the occasion or she has grown too old to wear the required dress of the youngest Kabbalah worshippers. Whatever the case may be, she looks infinitely cooler than her little sibs … tho, they look way cuter. It’s just crazy insane how big all of the kids have grown … OY!

Madonna and her eldest child Lourdes Maria stepped out in NYC last night to attend the 2nd annual Bent on Learning Benefit which was held at held at The Puck Building in Manhattan. In a show of support for the organization, which seeks to help foster instruction in yoga and meditation to students in grades K through 12 in New York City public schools and youth centers, Maddy and Lola showed up to class up the red carpet:

I have to say, I kinda love that Madonna is lending her support to an organization that is trying to teach yoga to children … that seems so her, doesn’t it? I guess now that Lourdes will be playing a big part in the creation of Madonna‘s new juniors fashion line Material Girl, she will very likely be showing up at more red carpet events from here on out. I suspect Madonna will make sure to accompany her to these sorts of events for a few years yet but it won’t be long until Lola starts going out on her own. Remember when Lourdes was just a baby? Now she’s becoming a full-fledged socialite … where does the time go?

Rumor has it that Madonna‘s first born child, Lourdes Maria Ciconne Leon, will be attending classes at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (the performing arts high school that the movie and TV series Fame is based on) this Fall … and the kids who already attend classes there are none too pleased about it. Now, I have to make clear that this report comes from a British tabloid so it is deffo suspect … but, if you think about it, can you think of a better high school for Madonna‘s daughter to attend than the Fame school?

Madonna’s wannabe actress daughter Lourdes has enrolled at the performing arts school which inspired the film “Fame”, according to a U.K. report. The 13 year old, who made a cameo appearance in her mum’s “Celebration” video, is preparing to start her studies at New York’s renowned LaGuardia Arts academy in September. But news of her enrollment has already upset fellow students – amid rumors she didn’t have to audition publicly to land a place. Pupil Brittany Evans tells Britain’s The Sun, “Lots of kids are talking about how she had an advantage.”

This story can be complete bullshizz … or it can have some bit of truth to it. It makes absolute sense that Lola would be the perfect student for LaGuardia Arts high school … I can already picture her dancing on the tables in the cafeteria at lunch time just like they did on the Fame TV show. On the other hand, I can see why Maddy might not want to subject her daughter to the competitive nature of the Fame school. I, personally, think it’s a great idea. If Lourdes really wants to be in showbiz someday, going to high school at LaGuardia Arts would be a great first step.

Earlier this week we saw photos of Madonna and her children in Malawi at an event where Maddy laid the first brick on the construction site of a new all girls school there and today we learn that her family visit to Malawi hasn’t quite finished just yet. Madonna brought her children back to The Home of Hope to visit the orphanage where she adopted her son David Banda. Here are a few photos from Maddy‘s visit to the Mchinji orphanage this week:

Their heads craning to peer through the gates, children were desperate to see inside The Home of Hope in Malawi today. They were hoping to catch a glimpse of Madonna, who was returning to the Mchinji Orphange where she adopted her youngest son in 2006. The global superstar and daughter Lourdes were surrounded by hordes of excited orphans on their visit. Madonna adopted David Banda from the orphanage when he was 18 months old despite opposition from his biological father Yohane Banda. Mr Banda complained the following year that he had only been allowed to see his son once since the adoption. But he has since changed his opposition to support the star, saying he can see the benefits for his son, now four. Madonna arrived in Malawi earlier this week for a week-long charity tour to inspect projects she established since her first visit in 2006. She has pumped millions into the impoverished southern African country, where four in ten people live on less than a dollar a day and the life expectancy is just 41. She funds six Malawian orphanages, which feed, clothe and educate 25,000 children. It is Madonna’s first visit to Malawi since she controversially adopted a second Malawian child, Mercy James, last year.

I expect these sojourns to Malawi will be, at least, an annual affair. Since half of her children come from the region, it seems to me that Madonna is making a huge effort to ensure that all of her children grow up with a strong appreciation for Malawi. It’s unclear how much longer the family plans to stay in Africa but I don’t think there is any rush to cut this visit short.
