Though her days of battling Kristen Cavallari and Speidi in the realm of reality TV are officially behind her, no way is Lauren Conrad headed for the unemployment line. But she doesn’t expect to run up the aisle to collect an Oscar, either. The former The Hills star, best-selling author, fashion designer and spokesperson spent her week launching a second clothing line and finalizing a deal to convert her semi-autobiographical novel L.A Candy into a feature film. “I think my acting is offensive!” Conrad, 23, tells PEOPLE in response to a question of whether she’d consider playing the movie version of Jane Roberts, the heroine of her novel. “I’m an awful actor, I’m not super comfortable with it. In fact I was just trying to do lines … and they’ll tell you, I cannot memorize lines.” Conrad, appearing in West Hollywood for an event sponsored by Kohl’s Department Store to launch her LC Lauren Conrad label, will partner with Temple Hill Entertainment (the group behind the Twilight franchise) in bringing L.A. Candy to the big screen, and though she has no designs on playing the lead, rest assured that the stunning multi-tasker will be even more hands-on than Brody Jenner at a Playboy party. “If you’re putting your name on something,” Conrad tells PEOPLE about the film project, “it’s really important to be a part of it, or else people will just do whatever they want with it, and then it’s not really you, and it won’t be true. I’m planning on being a part of it from start to finish.”

LC was asked by a reporter about her opinion on the new season of The Hills (which features Kristin Cavallari as the main protagonist) and she confessed that she purposely will NOT watch the show so she can honestly have no opinion. Oh yeah, she is a very smart cookie. LC may not be all that exciting drama-wise but she is a very intelligent person and I commend her for making the choices in her life that she’s made thus far. She rode the reality TV fame train long enough to launch a successful business and now she’s focusing on that … brilliant. I’m not entirely sold on her writing skills and I’m not all that confident that a movie made from her book will be a box office blockbuster but she’s going for hers and I wish her all the best. LC is really one of the good kids … here’s hoping she keeps her head on straight.

Selena Gomez, rockin’ a new shorter ‘do, came to the event without her new friend Taylor Lautner (much to the other female attendees dismay, I’m sure) and Melissa Joan Hart was among the celebrity parents in attendance who brought along their little ones. For 20 years, the A Time For Heroes Celebrity Carnival has helped raise funds for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation which attempts to fund research for children suffering from AIDS. It may not seem like much but this annual event does much to raise much needed funds for this very important charity. Kudos to all the celebs who continue to make time for events like this.

The ladies lunched at Lola’s Cafe here in SoCal Thursday and looked as if they got along famously … that is, except for the times that KC looked bored out of her mind that Lo was even there. Hahahahaha … this shizz is so childishly high school, I love it. While I enjoyed much of the drama that we got on The Hills in previous seasons, I was really a fan of the juvenile ridiculousness of Laguna Beach more than anything. I’m hoping that some of that foolishness will be injected into The Hills in the coming season. It’d be great if some other LB alums showed up in the new season as well … like Talan, Trey, Polster — FTW!! Here’s hoping the new season of The Hills offers less contrived drama and more actual juvenile sniping. Call me crazy but I miss when reality TV actually showcased reality.

If anyone’s in the market for a new gig, allow us to suggest a career as a reality TV villain. The hours are lousy, but we’ve got a feeling you’re going to enjoy the perks…. In case you were wondering what brought Laguna Beach baddie Kristin Cavallari back to MTV, feast your eyes on this: Life & Style Weekly is reporting that the blonde wannabe actress will earn an astounding $63,000 per episode after signing on to replace archrival Lauren Conrad as the new protagonist on Season 6 of MTV’s The Hills. That’s almost unheard of in the land of unscripted television — and just $2,000 less than $65,000 per episode payday that the network was shelling out for LC. “They needed her,” a production insider says, explaining why Kristin will earn over $1 million for her work this season, solidifying her spot as the highest-paid castmember on The Hills. “They needed someone new and fresh, who also came with a buzz and a name that was recognizable. Kristin was the obvious choice.” According to the source, Kristin used MTV’s desperation to replace Lauren to her advantage during contract negotiations. “She wanted money. You don’t have to pay the other girls that kind of money, but for Kristin you had to pay up.” At least one member of the cast believes the tongue-lashing Kristin’s tenure on The Hills will be worth every penny. “She’s so fun and crazy,” says series star Holly Montag. “Kristin’s not afraid to put anything on camera. She’s not going to hold anything back.”

In my estimation, Kristin Cavallari is worth every penny. It’s very true, The Hills would’ve been dunzo if she hadn’t agreed to join the show in LC’s place … they did need KC if they really wanted to bring back the show for another season. Last August, In Touch Weekly reported the rumored salaries of the castmembers of The Hills and claimed that LC was making $75,000 per episode. It was later clarified that the salaries they reported were slightly inflated (so I suppose the claim that LC was really making $65,000 is very plausible). Whatever the actual salaries may be, there is no denying the fact that MTV had to pay a pretty penny to get Kristin Cavallari to join the show. I have NO DOUBT that Kristin is gonna bring the delicious entertainment (ie. much needed bitchiness) to the show. Altho she’s been away from the MTV cameras for quite some time, she seems to have slipped back into the swing of things very easily. Attending The Hills panel at PaleyFest without being a regular viewer of The Hills is like going to a Friday night party at some condo off Sunset where everybody knows each other and nobody knows you. So you stand there amid an attractive crowd and nod and smile and pretend like you get their jokes. Helpfully, before the panel the producers screen a 20-minute compilation of clips from The Hills that summarizes the first five seasons of the hit MTV docu-soap. The clips are either perfectly edited, or the series has incredible amounts of filler because when the lights come up you feel like you just sat through every single episode and understand everything that’s happened: A blonde girl named Lauren moved to Hollywood and fell in love with another blonde girl named Heidi. They broke up when Heidi fell in love with a blond guy named Spencer. Each season the girls wore more obvious makeup and Lauren cries a lot. Oh, and at one point Lauren went to France. But when the cast comes onstage there’s a glaring omission. Heidi, who was billed to be onstage with Lauren, is not here. This is a considerable letdown, even for those of us who just started watching The Hills roughly 20 minutes ago. We’re told she’s planning for a “big event” this weekend, which is rumored to be her wedding to Spencer. Needless to say, The Hills cameras will be there, and three cast members say they are invited, none of which are Lauren. The biggest news bits from the Q&A:

– Producers were asked if the show will continue beyond the fifth season and gave the usual “we’re in talks … seeing if there are more stories to tell,” etc., etc., answer.

HMMM … I don’t think there was anyone who seriously doubted that it was Spencer who came up with the sex tape rumor, I mean … c’mon. The fact that he finally admits it on camera should come as no shock to anyone. Since this is the “last” season of The Hills, they have to pull out all the stops … the sex tape thing is one big loose end that was never tied up and the Speidi wedding is another. It really sounds like LC is done with the show … which means that any attempts to keep it going without her are going to be really bad, I think. Laguna Beach didn’t really fare so well once she left the show … and when they moved the drama to Newport Beach (introducing a new cast of characters) the whole thing went into the toilet. If MTV is smart, they’ll just let the show end on a relative high note.

But that doesn’t mean they may not try to launch a new show around Heidi and Spencer. It remains to be seen if those two can carry a show all by themselves but, I’m telling you, they’re gonna try. First, tho, they’ve got a little wedding to get thru … let’s see if they can pull that off before they think about launching their own TV show. I understand that the promo photos for the past few seasons had to be Photoshopped so that the girls could be in the same frame (since they didn’t want to be photographed together). Now that all of that is water under the bridge, the girls are — once again — happy to be photographed together. Does this mean that all is forgiven? We shall soon find out. What I want to know is that if there is no more drama between LC and Heidi, what is left to feature on the show? We know that Heidi and Spencer Pratt won’t be breaking up on the show since they never broke up in real life. I doubt they’ll try to pull another fake wedding on us. Will the ongoing drama between Audrina Patridge and Justin Bobby be enough to get people to tune in? Now that the epic feud between LC and Heidi is over, what is there left for Lauren Lo Bosworth and Stephanie Pratt to do? And does Brody Jenner even have to be on the show when he’s got his own Bromance thing happening on the side? I’m sure all these questions and MORE will be answered when the 5th season of The Hills debuts next Monday night. Will you be tuning in?

While Lauren Conrad and Lo Boswoth may have vacated their Hollywood Hills pad, it seems they’ve traded up for the island paradise of Turtle Bay. Celebuzz spies in Oahu, Hawaii caught Lauren, Lo, Audrina Patridge and Stephanie Pratt vacationing this weekend at Turtle Bay resort, soaking up sun and cocktails—all on camera. While MTV was unreachable for comment, it seems Season 5 of the reality hit is upon us! “They were all together, sipping Chi-Chi’s [pina colada's with vodka],” the source says, “Lo picked up the tab for drinks and then all four girls laid in the sand.” Elsewhere at the resort, where Jason Segal and Mila Kunis filmed Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Brody Jenner and Frankie Delgado enjoyed bro time while production was manned from two large trucks of equipment. And what can we expect from the island get away, by the time it makes its edited way to our hot little hands? Boy talk! “Lauren and Lo were talking about two guys they met at [Los Angeles club] Apple,” said the spy. The loves and lives of the SoCal girls now contend with expat Whitney Port, and her NYC show The City.

Meh. I gotta admit … the obvious unreality of this reality TV show is really unappealing. I mean, I get that it was always fake to an extent but the stagedness of the series has gotten so out of hand … there isn’t even a single ounce of believability anymore. Mebbe it’s just me but I really preferred the show when MTV at least tried to make the drama seem real … mostly by being more clandestine about how the show gets filmed. They’re not even trying to hide the fact that the show is mostly pre-contrived drivel. I dunno … it’s just not as fun anymore. I kinda get the feeling that the gang are just going thru the motions at this point … that it’s all about the Benjamins. I think I’m still up for watching the show when it returns to the airwaves in a few weeks … I’m not sure why exactly, but I think I’m still there. Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth are heading out of the Hollywood Hills. The two roommates are ditching their house for a high-rise complex in the Westwood area of Los Angeles. “She wanted more security, and being in a building with a doorman will allow her that,” says a source. Just [this past Tuesday], friends such as Stephanie Pratt, Brody Jenner and girlfriend Jayde Nicole were at her home for a barbecue—all taped by MTV crews, of course. Could it have been a going-away party, perhaps? Maybe L.C. should have considered a block party. No doubt neighbors won’t miss having the Hills camera crews and constant paparazzi presence that came with having her in the neighborhood. Lauren’s and Lo’s rep had no comment.

Man, LC changes homes more than some people change their underwear … I believe this is at least her third move since The Hills went on the air a few years ago. It’s like she just keeps moving higher and higher. To be honest, I considered highrise apartment living for me and David when we started making plans to live together … I thought it would be a nice transition for him since he’s used to living in tall buildings with doormen. Just think, we could’ve been LC’s neighbors … and then David would’ve prolly turned right back around and flew back to NYC :) I understand that LC’s new building is one of the swankier buildings … can’t wait to see what it looks like from the inside.

Lauren LC Conrad and Lauren Lo Bosworth were on hand at the event last night along with The Hills co-stars Stephanie Pratt and Frankie Delgado. The crew had their MTV cameras with them and they were filming but it remains to be seen if any of the footage will make it on to the show. Avril Lavigne and her hubby Deryck Whibley came out to bowl a few games as did Nicky Hilton and her siblings … Paris and Baron also came out for the event last night (tho they were not photographed). My friends (Steph, Alek, Darion) and I came out to enjoy some of the fun and we had a blast. Because the party was so packed (and Amanda Bynes and her friends were hogging our bowling lane) we didn’t get to play but we did get to eat and drink to our hearts’ content. The Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge at LA Live is phat, y’all … we’ve already decided to gather as many of our peeps for a little bowling fun there when the venue opens for biz in a couple of weeks.

It occurred to me that last night’s fun was the second time in one week’s time that I spent at a bowling alley. I wonder if the fates are trying to tell me something.
