Kevin Williamson Reveals He Is Hard At Work On The Script For ‘Scream 4’

"I'm almost done with the first draft"
Saturday, January 30th, 2010

In a new very long, very interesting interview about his CW TV show The Vampire Diaries (which I really love, btw), Kevin Williamson talks a bit about his progress on the script for the much anticipated sequel film Scream 4. Back in November, we heard a little bit about plans for the film from Scream star Neve Campbell but in this new interview, Williamson explains just where in the creative process he is for the film:

Q: Are you working on any film projects right now?
Kevin: I’m almost done with the first draft of Scream 4. I’m trying to get that together for Wes Craven. We’ve got to get going on that, during the hiatus. We have Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Dave Arquette. I was always holding out hope because the pitch was about those three characters. I didn’t want to have to re-route the whole story. We don’t have to do that. I can do it exactly the way I want wanted. The story is going to be told the way I originally conceived it.

Q: Is that going to be part of a new trilogy?
Kevin: I’ve been contracted to write Scream 4 and 5.

Q: That’s not a trilogy.
Kevin: Well, I’m not going to negotiate 6 right away.

Q: Horror films have undergone another shift, with the success of Paranormal Activity. Do you have a chance to update references to that in there?
Kevin: It’s all in there.

Q: Would you shoot Scream 4 in the Atlanta area?
Kevin: I’d love to. When I went down there, I said, “This is so Woodsboro.” It would be perfect, but that’s Wes’ decision. Pasadena would work, too. If Wes directs, and he will if I have anything to say about it, I’ll camp out at his house.

Q: What do you think it will take to get Wes Craven to come back and direct?
Kevin: Oh, Wes is going to do it.

Woot!! This all sounds really great. Okay, so we know that Wes Craven is directing Scream 4 and we will deffo be getting Scream 5 … but what about those rumors that part 4 will be presented in 3D? Read on, the interview continues after the jump …

Neve Campbell Signs On To Appear In ‘Scream 4’

"Yes on Neve, guys!"
Friday, September 25th, 2009

Earlier this year we learned that plans were in the works to produce the much anticipated, much-delayed sequel film Scream 4 and in July we learned that husband and wife couple (who met on the set of the Scream movie franchise) Courteney Cox and David Arquette officially signed on to reprise their roles (as Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley) in Scream 4. At the time, Scream star Neve Campbell (Sydney Prescott) proclaimed that she would NOT reprise her role … but plans for the sequel moved ahead anyways. Today we learn the great news that Neve has FINALLY agreed to sign on for Scream 4!! Writer/director Kevin Williamson broke the news on his official Twitter profile and then an article from Variety expounded on the news. Here is the full text of Williamson’s Twitter announcement and excerpts from the Variety article:

From Twitter: Yes on Neve guys! Read Variety! Whew! All I can say is “Whew”

From Variety: Promising that “I’m going back to doing what I do best,” Bob Weinstein has unveiled several films to be released by Dimension over the next year, many in 3-D. “Scream IV” will start production in April or May as the first of a new trilogy and the company is talking to Wes Craven to direct, Weinstein reports. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette will star … The first three “Scream” pictures registered grosses of roughly $100 million a piece in the U.S.

This is great news. Unlike other sequel films, I feel that all of the Scream sequels are amazingly fun films each in their own right. Scream 2 and 3 were both really fun movies … Parker Posey gives one of her funnest performances EVER in Scream 3. I have no doubt that Scream 4 will be just as good. I just knew Neve would come back for the new film … they were gonna make it with or without her so why not come back, make everyone happy and make a lot of money. The Scream franchise is one of my faves ever and now we have another trilogy to look forward to. Woot!! I can’t wait to get back to Woodsboro, CA again!
