Visibility is key
The 2009 GLAAD Media Awards Are Handed Out

Celebs from the big screen, the small screen, the stage and more made their way out to the Nokia Theatre here in downtown Los Angeles, CA yesterday evening to attend and participate in the 2009 GLAAD Media Awards … which honors achievement in GLBT visibility in the media. Here are a few photos from the awards show itself and some info from the glitzy ceremony:

Civil rights group GLAAD honored the movie “Milk” and singled-out Reverend Gene Robinson and comedian Kathy Griffin for their work at a Saturday night gala highlighting issues such as gay marriage and equality. Talk program “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” was given a GLAAD Media Award for its episode “Ellen & Portia’s Wedding Day,” covering DeGeneres’ wedding to actress Portia de Rossi. DeGeneres dedicated the honor to Carl Walker-Hoover, an 11 year-old Massachusetts boy who killed himself earlier this month because school kids bullied him and called him “gay.” “In my opinion, we are not fighting for gay rights, we are fighting for equal rights,” DeGeneres told the black tie crowd at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater. The 2009 awards marked the 20th year that films, TV shows, performers and others have been honored by GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. “Milk,” about slain gay rights activist Harvey Milk, was named best film. “Desperate Housewives” was chosen best TV comedy, and “Brothers and Sisters” was named top TV drama. GLAAD President Neil Giuliano spoke to the audience about the impact TV shows such as “The L Word” and movies like “Brokeback Mountain” have had on introducing audiences to all sorts of lesbian and gay characters and issues they face. Giuliano touched on marriage and said that despite setbacks like the passage of California’s Proposition 8 which denied gay men and women the right to marry in that state, progress has been made in other states where gay weddings are now legal. “As we learned in Iowa and Vermont, ignorance and hate does not stop the march of social justice,” Giuliano said. While many of the night’s speeches focused on social and political issues — as expected for the activist group — the night also featured a lot of comedy and music. Comedian Kathy Griffin accepted the Vanguard Award for her work in the gay community. She dressed in a bikini with a white, gay marriage ribbon, pinned to the bottom. The makers of video sensation “Prop 8: The Musical,” a parody of the conservative campaign backing Proposition 8, were singled-out with a special recognition award, and the musical number was performed on stage. The Right Reverend V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay Bishop in the Episcopal church, was given an honorary award for his work as a religious leader and activist. Last month, GLAAD held a ceremony in New York City where it handed out other media awards. A similar event is planned for May in San Francisco.

I really love that the GLAAD Media Awards are handed out in LA, NY and San Francisco … issues of GLBT visibility are too large for just one ceremony. Much love and congrats to all the folks who work tireless to help foster and spread positive images of the gay community, pushing the boundaries of discrimination further and further away. The work is long and hard and nowhere near complete … until justice and equality for all is achieved in this country, the work carries on. Again, congrats to those folks who keep on keepin’ on. Click HERE for a full list of award winners from the LA portion of the GLAAD Media Awards. My dear friend Darion was able to attend the GLAAD Media Awards yesterday and he managed to get a fun photo with one of his fave celebs:

Don’t they look great? Kathy Griffin looks stunning. Trust me, Darion was geeked beyond words. Woot!!

Um ....
Kathy Griffin Shows Off Her Bikini Bod

Kathy Griffin, who just last weekend hosted the A-List Awards for Bravo TV here in SoCal, is featured in the new issue of OK! magazine showing off her rockin’ bikini bod … like, for real … check it out:

Kathy Griffin’s got a hot body and she isn’t afraid to show it! “I’ve become insufferable, tormenting my friends, saying, ‘Do you know I have a banging bikini bod?’ That should be my new name: Banging Bikini Bod Griffin,” she jokes to OK!. She recently showed off her slim figure during an outing with Paris Hilton. “A lot more guys were looking at me than Paris,” says Kathy, who, at 5 feet, 3 inches, weighs a svelte 118 pounds. “Granted, they were gay, but they were checking out my hot ass!” Don’t stare too hard though, fellas – Kathy says she’s not just another pretty face. “I am more than a golden, tanned sexpot. I am a woman, damn it, with thoughts and feelings!” she tells OK!. So how does she keep her trim figure? “I work out five days a week for an hour to an hour and a half, and my personal trainer comes to the house,” she reveals. “I need to have my ass kicked.” The reality star also claims her curves are au natural, telling OK! she hasn’t had any work done recently. “Not since 2003 when I had a face-lift,” she explains. “My breasts are very real and very floppy. Why have surgery when you could just get a good freaking bra?”

Folks, there is much more of this bikini hotness to be had. After the jump, check out a batch of new photos of Kathy showing off her fave bikinis for the upcoming Summer season …

With nary an A-Lister in sight
The 2009 Bravo ‘A-List Awards’ Are Handed Out

Bravo TV hosted the 2009 A-List Awards at The Orpheum Theater here in LA last night and they managed to attract a whole lotta D-Listers (and lower) to the event. The second annual award show (completely made up by Bravo TV to hand out awards to the the reality TV “stars” they created themselves) was, once again, hosted by Kathy Griffin and seeks to honor “the best in food, fashion, beauty, design and pop culture”. Here are a few pics of some of the supposed A-Listers who came out for the event yesterday:

Um, let’s be real here … there ain’t nothing A-List about the A-List Awards. How much do you wanna bet that Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan grabbed the closest scantily-clad woman in sight so that he would get photographed by the assembled media folks (and how much do you want to bet that Tila Tequila thought she was posing for a pic with Uncle Fester from The Addams Family)? I got $10. I mean, I get that Bravo is trying to start something akin to the MTV Video Music Awards with their little show but I’m afraid it ain’t gonna happen. The network boldly nominated some bona fide A-List people (David Beckham, Brad Pitt, Michelle Obama, Tina Fey) but when all you get on your red carpet is Pug Dilton and Aubrey O’Day, well, mebbe it’s time to change the name of your awards show … perhaps the A-Hole Awards? I keed, I keed … but seriously …. they should stop. That being said, I do love Kathy Griffin and if they keep getting her to host, I’ll prolly watch it in reruns or something. Or, you know, not.

Joins forces with Kathy Griffin then skips town with Doug Reinhardt
Paris Hilton’s Life On The D-List

The fabulous Kathy Griffin teamed up with Paris Hilton yesterday for a little shopping excursion on Robertson Blvd. with a few of their closest friends … with cameras. Both ladies dressed colorfully for the event and Paris even brought along her newest pet (a gift from current boyfriend Doug Reinhardt) to partake in yesterday’s fun. Here are a few photos:

HMMM, something tells me that this seemingly innocent shopping trip was prolly some sort of publicity stunt, yes? Kathy will be hosting Bravo TV‘s second annual A-List Awards and methinks that yesterday’s outing had something to do with the show … call me crazy but that’s my guess. I seem to recall that around this time last year Kathy went on another high-profile shopping excursion with a notorious Z-List celeb … she was tooling around Beverly Hills, CA with Adnan Ghalib. That footage ended up on the last season of her Bravo TV series My Life on the D-List. I suppose it’s possible that her playdate with Paris Hilton might end up on the next season of D-List as well. Time will tell.

When Paris was finished playing with Kathy, she hooked back up with her boyfriend Doug Reinhardt and the pair made their way to LAX Airport. After the jump, check out a photo of the couple’s arrival at the airport last night and of the two of them sucking face in the security line …

More hot men on the way
‘GQ’ Magazine Honors The ‘Men Of The Year’ For 2008

While People magazine is honoring its annual list of the Sexiest Men Alive today, GQ magazine has compiled its own list of men to honor as well. Both male and female celebs made their way out to the Chateau Marmont in LA, CA last night to enjoy GQ magazine’s 2008 Men Of The Year Partybestowing top honors to Leonardo DiCaprio and John Malcovich. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals last night:

Actors Leonardo DiCaprio and John Malkovich walked away with top awards at this year’s GQ Men of the Year ceremony. The Body Of Lies star picked up the Leading Man Trophy, while Malkovich was named Mad Genius of the Year at the men’s magazine awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Tuesday. President-elect Barack Obama was given the nod as Game Changer of the Year, actor Jon Hamm was handed the Breakout award and Olympic champion Michael Phelps took home the ultimate accolade for Golden Boy of the Year. The glittering party attracted some of Hollywood’s brightest male stars, including DiCaprio, Zac Efron, Adam Brody and Aaron Eckhart. And although the annual celebration recognizes leading men, the ladies were out in full force too, with Megan Fox, Rosario Dawson and Elisha Cuthbert turning out for the red carpet bash. The main list of winners is as follows:

Leading Man: Leonardo DiCaprio
Game Changer: Barack Obama
Breakout: Jon Hamm
Golden Boy: Michael Phelps
Mad Genius of the Year: John Malkovich
Obsession of the Year: Megan Fox
Drama Queen of the Year: Sean Penn
Screen Idol of the Year: James Franco
Tough Guys of the Year: The Wire Writers
Mogul of the Year: Seth MacFarlane
Prick of the Year: Gordon Ramsay

While I don’t necessarily agree with this list of honorees as I did with the People magazine list, there are a few winners that I am in complete agreement with — Barack Obama, Megan Fox, James Franco. After the jump, check out a few more photos from the red carpet arrivals last night — there is more hotness to be had …

In, what is being described as, possibly the worst Emmy Awards ceremony ever
The 60th Annual Emmy Awards Are Handed Out

Last night the 60th Annual Emmy Awards were given out for outstanding achievement in television at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles, CA. I was not able to watch the show myself, since I am currently in Reykjavik, Icelancd on holiday, but the reviews are in and I understand the show itself was pretty unwatchable. Despite the shortcomings of this year’s Emmy Awards show, the whole reason for the shindig in the first place is to hand out awards to some very deserving folks … oh, and for the fashions on the red carpet. Here are a few pics of some of the folks who strutted their stuff down the red carpet last night:

Christina Applegate looked stunning on the red carpet, I’m so glad to see her looking so well. Heidi Klum and Julie Benz also looked pretty amazing … I threw in David Boreanaz so that there could be a little bit of Angel/Darla love going on here. I liked Brooke Shields‘s pink dress and I thought Kathy Griffin picked out a nice wig to wear for the event. Here are a few pics of some of the winners in the Emmy Awards press room backstage … I also threw in some non-winners as well, cuz they were brave enough to pose for pics without having actually won anything last night:

The sleek ’60s drama “Mad Men” made Emmy history Sunday as the first basic-cable show to win a top series award, while the sitcom “30 Rock” and its stars Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin also emerged as big winners. “We’re all so very grateful to have jobs in this turkey-burger economy,” Fey said after accepting the best comedy series trophy for her satire about a late-night TV show. “This is the greatest job I’ve ever had in my life,” Baldwin said of his role an a network executive. He paid tribute to Fey, the NBC show’s star and creator, as “the Elaine May of her generation.” “I thank my parents for somehow raising me to have confidence that is disproportionate with my looks and abilities. Well done. That is what all parents should do,” said Fey, who also won for best actress and writing in a comedy series. Emmy voters rewarded quality, not ratings: Many of the winners draw relatively small audiences. AMC’s “Mad Men,” which looks at America through the prism of Madison Avenue, is lucky to get 2 million viewers. Glenn Close of FX’s “Damages” and Bryan Cranston of AMC’s “Breaking Bad” captured drama acting trophies. Close, honored for her portrayal of a ruthless attorney, complimented her fellow nominees, including Holly Hunter and Sally Field. “We’re proving that complicated, powerful, mature women are sexy in high entertainment and can carry a show,” she said. “I call us the sisterhood of the TV drama divas.” Cranston won the trophy for his role of a desperate man who turns to making drugs. Dianne Wiest of “In Treatment” and Zeljko Ivanek of “Damages” won supporting acting honors for the drama series. Jean Smart of ABC’s “Samantha Who?” was honored as best supporting actress in a comedy series, with Jeremy Piven her actor counterpart for “Entourage.” Piven took aim at the five reality hosts who helped open the ceremony in what could charitably called a rambling way, saying, “What if I just kept talking for 12 minutes — what would happen? That was the opening.” The crowd at the 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards laughed heartily, not a good sign for the hosts, who included Ryan Seacreast of “American Idol.” … Jeff Probst of “Survivor,” one of the ceremony’s masters of ceremonies, claimed the first award for best reality series host. “We feel honored to be part of this family. Thank you for letting reality in,” he said … HBO’s “John Adams,” about the founding father, was named best miniseries and won other awards including acting trophies for Paul Giamatti, Laura Linney and Tom Wilkinson. The historical drama set a record for most awards, 13, including five trophies Sunday and eight previously announced. The record of 11 was held by HBO’s “Angels in America,” the TV academy said. HBO was the most-honored network, with 26 awards earned Sunday and at the creative arts ceremony held earlier this month. ABC was second with 12 awards, followed by CBS, NBC and PBS with 10 each; AMC with eight, Showtime with five and Fox with four.

Felicitations and congratulations go out to all of this year’s Emmy Award winners … but I am struggling to find nice things to say about last night’s award show. Since I didn’t get to see it for myself, I have to rely on what others are reporting … and none of it is good. After the jump, check out some of the scathing yet funny bad reviews of last night’s 60th Annual Emmy Awards — believe me, some of them are deffo worth checking out …

Jesus gets no love, Jimmy Kimmel does
Kathy Griffin, Sarah Silverman Win Emmy Awards

Woot! Kathy Griffin has done it again! Sarah Silverman has done it … er, for the first time! Both funny ladies walked away from the 60th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards which was held at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, CA last night. Kathy won for her outstanding work on her hit Bravo reality TV show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List and Sarah won for her rousing music video I’m Fucking Matt Damon. Here are pics of the lovely ladies with their shiny new trophies in the press room at last night’s Creative Emmy Awards:

Kathy Griffin might need to consider adding another member to her staff just to carry around her Emmy awards. The comedian won her second Emmy on Saturday, picking up the trophy for best reality program for her Bravo hit My Life On the D-List. And, true to form, she delivered another memorable – and bleepable – acceptance speech. “Well, well, well! Here we go again, f—–ers,” Griffin said, gamely accepting the award at the Creative Arts Emmys held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. “I’m not going to tell anyone to suck it,” she said, referencing her speech from 2007 in which she infamously told Jesus to “suck it.” “I would make love to this thing if I could.” … Griffin was also nominated for a stand up comedy special, though she lost the award to Don Rickles, with whom she is presenting an award at the Primetime Emmys next weekend. “Can you believe it? I’m in heaven,” she said of presenting with Rickles. “It’s what should have been the Obama/Hillary ticket of comedy. I’m very excited about that and being with him and standing next to him. I just love him.”

Sarah Silverman may have won an Emmy award for a song boasting of a romance with Matt Damon, but it was her ex-boyfriend, Jimmy Kimmel, whom the comedian thanked from the stage. “Let’s be honest, Matt Damon had very little to do with this being popular,” Silverman, 37, said while accepting her award at the Creative Arts Emmys for the salty music video “I’m Fucking Matt Damon” at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. “Thanks to the person for whom this whole video was made: Jimmy Kimmel, who broke my heart – ohh, who’ll always have a place in my heart,” Silverman continued. The video, written and recorded for Jimmy Kimmel Live nabbed two awards – best original music and lyrics and a picture-editing award – at the Saturday show … While she has not spoken at length publicly about the split, in August, Silverman made a reference to her break-up during a comedy gig at West Hollywood’s Largo at the Coronet, telling the crowd, “Did someone tell you I’m going through a hard time?” In her speech Saturday, Silverman also thanked her cowriters and joked, “this makes all the, ‘Hey, I’m fucking Matt Damon, too,’ totally worth it.” The Creative Arts Emmys air on E! Saturday Sept. 20. The Primetime Emmys air on ABC Sept. 21.

Aww … I love it. Kathy is really funny on her show, I’m glad she keeps winning. To be honest, I’m actually very surprised that Sarah won her award. I was fairly certain that the Television Academy who votes for these awards wouldn’t deem a music video titled I’m Fucking Matt Damon worthy of such a prestigious award … I guess comedy does win out in the end … and I guess the Academy isn’t as stuffy as I previously believed. Much congrats and love goes out to both Kathy and Sarah on their amazing wins! I totally believe they are both well deserved.

What must Sebastian Leal think?
Lance Bass Cuddles Up To Kathy Griffin

BFFs Lance Bass and Kathy Griffin got all hot and heavy with one another on the red carpet at the 944 LA 2nd Anniversary Party/ MTV Official VMA Party at The Kress in Hollywood, CA last night … take a look:

You know, these two would make a really cute couple if Lance wasn’t totally into dudes … despite the fact that Kathy Griffin kinda looks like a dude. I keed, I keed … it’s great to see these two friends together in any situation. As far as I can tell, Lance is still cuddling up to his most current boyfriend Sebastian Leal. The pair spent some time together in Puerto Rico last week (they were spotted together at the El San Juan Hotel and Casino for an event there) so I think that everything is A-OK for the lovebirds … but it must be a comfort for Lance to know that he can always run to the warm bosom of Kathy if ever he should find himself manless.

And now we know why they broke up
Kathy Griffin Reveals She ‘Never F*cked’ Steve Wozniak

Comedian Kathy Griffin paid a little visit to the New York offices of US Weekly to do a little interview with the mag and confessed that she and ex-boyfriend Steve Wozniak (the billionaire co-founder of Apple computers) never engaged in sexual relations thruout the course of their “romantic” relationship. Despite dating for some time, the couple never officially consummated their relationship and existed merely “as friends the whole time.”:

Kathy Griffin says she never went all the way with her ex, Apple co-founder billionaire Steve Wozniak. “We were dating, but were just friendly. I never f—-d him or anything!” she told Usmagazine.com during a visit to our NYC offices last Thursday. “The truth is,” she added, “we really were friends the whole time.” … She announced their split in April (they met in 2007 after he watched her perform). After they called it quits, she said “he met someone very quickly and then they [got] engaged.” No hard feelings, said Griffin, who plans to visit Wozniak (who appears on her Bravo reality show) in Saratoga, New York, on July 11. “I have had dinner with them, and she’s a thousand times more appropriate!” she said. “I hate to say it, but in the Bruce, Demi, Ashton [scheme of things], I’m the Bruce!”

Um, something tells me that whoever the lucky lady that The Woz got engaged to after splitting up with Kathy is giving up the goods. It’s interesting that she refers to her relationship with Steve Wozniak as “dating”. If they really were “just friends” as she says, why not say they were just hanging out together rather than dating? It’s kind of a shame that things worked out this way for Kathy and Steve … part of me really liked the idea that they might get married one day. The thought of Kathy Griffin marrying into billions of dollars was an intriguing one … a woman with that much wealth and her sense of humor would be totally unstoppable. She could’ve really become the real White Oprah … but with an acidic tongue that would’ve made things very interesting. Ah well … I guess we’ll just have to deal with the D-Listed Kathy Griffin that we already know and love.

TV Land hands out some awards
TV Royalty Gets Its Day In The Sun

The 6th Annual TV Land Awards took place at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, CA yesterday and a cavalcade of classic TV stars took to the red carpet for the event. It must be said, tho, that whoever the genius was who decided to make the celebs walk the carpet (and be photographed) in the blinding mid-day SoCal sun should be fired … you could almost see the make-up melting off the faces of some of our most beloved and revered classic TV celebs. Too cruel … too cruel, indeed. Anyways … here are a few photos from the TV Land Awards red carpet and a few golden moments as noted by USA Today:

As usual, the TV Land Awards brought together an unusual collection of Hollywood stars. On the red carpet and during the show, taped Sunday, they joked around or, more seriously, shared details of their lives. USA TODAY was at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., to catch the action:•Lionel Richie, who was presented the Icon Award for his 40 years in show business. He said on stage as he accepted his award, “Just surviving 27 years of Nicole Richie. … I stand here as survivor.”•Justin Timberlake, who presented Mike Myers with his award. He was greeted by shouts of love from a male audience member. “That’s OK. Nothing wrong with a little bromance,” Timberlake joked.•Dawn Wells of Gilligan’s Island. She talked about the October arrest in Idaho that made headlines in February; she was placed on probation after being caught with marijuana in her car. “None of it was true,” Wells said. “I was weaving on the road and trying to find the (car) heater. (Police) never gave me a breathalyzer test, but they asked to search my car and found three (marijuana) roaches. My friend had been driving my car earlier in the day. He admitted to it all.” She continued, “The story mushroomed, and I lost out on a Girl Scout speaking engagement.”•Gary Coleman of Diff’rent Strokes. Coleman walked the carpet solo but says that despite reports, he and wife Shannon Price are still together. Their one-year anniversary is Aug. 28, and she is expecting him “to come up with something spectacular,” he says. He wouldn’t comment on reports that he’s still a virgin, but he had plenty to say about Price otherwise: She likes to sell items on eBay, including Coleman autographs. And she wasn’t with him because she was at home, where “she has three dachshunds. She is very much a caregiver to them.”Um, hello! Clearly the most Golden moment of the whole affair was the arrival of 3 of the Golden Girls on the TV Land red carpet — Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan and Betty White. Altho all 4 of the Golden Girls are still alive, Estelle Getty suffers from Lewy Body Dementia and is no longer well enough to able to make public appearances (Rue McClanahan revealed in an interview a few years ago that Estelle has deteriorated to the point where she no longer recognizes any of her GG co-stars and, very sadly, has no recollection at all of the show). I know Estelle was there in spirit tho, she is always present in spirit whenever the Golden Girls get together. Despite the fact that we are inundated with a plethora of (oftentimes useless) award shows, I really love the TV Land Awards for the mere fact that all of our favorite classic TV stars have a chance to be featured all together at least once a year. I mean, how else would Barry Williams be able to occupy his days? The TV Land Awards will air on TV Land on June 15th. [Source]
