Neil Patrick Harris Wins 2, Betty White Wins 1
The 2010 Creative Arts Emmy Awards Are Handed Out

Yesterday afternoon the 2010 Creative Arts Emmy Awards were handed out in a ceremony held at the Nokia Theater in downtown LA, CA much to the delight of a few of our fave television actors. Neil Patrick Harris, who we learned last week will be welcoming the birth of twin babies this October, managed to win two of the awards handed out yesterday and our beloved Golden Girl Betty White nabbed a trophy for her hosting performance on Saturday Night Live last Spring. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals yesterday (loving Mary Lynn Rajskub and Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks in her sexy Christian Siriano dress) and some deets about who won what:

She won for being naughty on the subject of muffins, and he won – twice – for singing and dancing. Betty White’s Facebook-generated Saturday Night Live hosting gig and Neil Patrick Harris’s turns as Tonys host and special guest star on Glee landed both veteran TV stars in the winners’ circle at Saturday night’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. Though White, 88, was not at the Nokia Theater to collect her prize (her Snickers ad was also up for TV’s highest honor), presenters John Lithgow and Clyde Phillips accepted on her behalf. Meanwhile, Harris, 37, was present and accounted for … Harris, who also thanked his partner and (co-parent-to-be) David Burtka, is up for a best supporting actor in a series, for How I Met Your Mother, at next Sunday’s Primetime Emmy Awards. Saturday’s other winners also included Jaime Oliver’s Food Revolution (best reality series), previous Emmy-winning Survivor host Jeff Probst (best reality-show host) and Ann-Margret, for her guest -starring role on Law and Order: SVU. The ad firm Weiden + Kennedy also received a Creative Arts Emmy for its Old Spice commercial, whose star, Isaiah Mustafa, told the Hollywood Reporter before the ceremony, “This is my first awards show, and I get to be nominated alongside Betty White!”

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards don’t usually get this much attention but considering the caliber of nominees this year, it’s no wonder this news is making a big splash. The big Emmy Awards are next week … but these Creative Arts Emmys are getting major attention. After the jump, check out a few photos of some of the winners at this year’s Creative Arts Emmys

Drag U
Kathy Griffin Lookin’ Faboo In NYC

Kathy Griffin, who just launched a new season of her hit reality TV series My Life on the D-List just last week, has been spotted all over NYC in recent days lookin’ absolutely fabulous as she’s been promoting her show. But, as amazing as Kathy has been lookin’, I can’t help but think of a new up-and-coming celeb who bears a striking resemblance to Ms. G:

Yes, ever since RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant and upcoming RuPaul’s Drag U instructor Pandora Boxx (nee Michael Steck) decided to steal Kathy‘s look, now all I see when I see Kathy is Pandora. Let’s be honest, tho, both beyotches look fierce but the edge has to go to Kathy for rockin’ this fabulousness first. Pandora may be a hot drag queen but Kathy is still the reigning queen queen.

Pap-arazzi
Kathy Griffin Makes Her Pap Smear A Public Affair

In an attempt to raise awareness about the dangers of cervical cancer (as only she can do), Kathy Griffin posed poolside at the Palomar Hotel in Westwood, CA to undergo a pap smear check-up in front of cameras. Griffin plans to air this pap smear procedure on the upcoming season of her hit Bravo TV series My Life on the D-List but was happy to smile for the other cameras in attendance yesterday as well:

Kathy Griffin will attempt to outdo Katie Couric’s celebrity colonoscopy this Friday when she gets an on-air Pap smear for her cable series “My Life on the D-List” to raise awareness about cervical cancer. But whereas Couric modestly had her colonoscopy conducted at a hospital in Manhattan, Griffin is getting her Pap smear poolside at the Palomar Hotel in Los Angeles. If you wanted to watch Couric’s colonoscopy, you had to watch it on NBC News’s “The Today Show.” But Griffin’s Pap smear you can go see for yourself if you can’t wait to see it when her series returns to Bravo which, once upon a time, used to air arts programming. That’s right, Griffin, 49, is having a public, poolside Pap smear — which we’re guessing is a TV first, a pap smear first, a hotel first and too many other firsts to mention. “On Friday, April 16, [Griffin] will receive this important test in hopes that every woman will see how easy it is to get this done,” her publicist said in a news release. “Kathy feels that this cause is so important that she has bedazzled her [private parts] so it can be as ‘va-beautiful’ as it ‘va-can’ ” the news release added. Sadly, Griffin’s procedure will not be conducted by a hunky poolside attendant. Rather, it will be done by an actual “medical physician,” Griffin announced, via her publicist in a news release. The press also has been invited to cover the event poolside, her publicist said in the news release. You’ll want to check the evening news Friday — and all the celebrity suck-up shows — for their coverage.

As you might expect, the cameras were out in full force at yesterday’s event. If you’re curious for a sneak peek at what’s to come when Kathy‘s pap smear is showcased on Bravo TV later in the year, you can see a couple photos from yesterday’s event after the jump (don’t worry, the pics are SFW) …

By any means necessary
Kathy Griffin & Lt. Dan Choi Demand The Repeal Of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

Kathy Griffin was on hand in Washington DC to appear at a planned protest at the White House to demand the repeal of the US Military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy which bans gays from openly serving in the armed forces. Famed gay rights activist, Lt. Dan Choi decided to team up with Kathy at today’s protest to ensure that their message be heard … Choi took things a bit further by handcuffing himself to the gates of the White House, resulting in his immediate arrest. Here are photos and deets from today’s DC protest:

In an act of civil disobedience, Lt. Dan Choi and Jim Pietrangelo have been arrested at the White House gates on Thursday while protesting the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. Following a Human Rights Campaign rally for DADT repeal in Washington earlier today, Choi and Pietrangelo led about 100 protesters to the White House, where the two then proceeded to handcuff themselves to the gates. Choi was speaking at the HRC rally at Freedom Plaza when he asked the group’s executive director, Joe Solmonese, if he would also march to the White House. Pietrangelo was discharged from the military under DADT, while Choi’s discharge is pending. Choi is the founder of Knights Out, a West Point alumni organization supporting LGBT soldiers. “You’ve been told that the White House has a plan,” Choi told rally attendees. “But we learned this week that the president is still not fully committed. … Following this rally, I will be leading [the protest] to the White House to say ‘enough talk.’ … I am still standing, I am still fighting, I am still speaking out, and I am still gay.” Police officers had blocked the gates of the White House with yellow tape and pushed back the protesters, who were chanting DADT repeal slogans and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Kathy Griffin, who was in Washington at the behest of HRC to meet with members of Congress about DADT repeal, was also at the rally. When asked by Choi if she would march with him to the White House, Griffin responded, “Of course!” Neither Griffin nor Solmonese was seen at the White House protest, however. The HRC has released the following statement on the rally: “Today more than 1,000 people showed up at a rally — 500 of which signed up to become more involved in the fight to repeal ‘don’t ask, don’t tell.’ Joe Solmonese along with [gay Iraq war veteran] Eric Alva and others felt it was important to stay and engage those at the rally in ways they can continue building the pressure needed for repeal. This does nothing to diminish the actions taken by Lt. Choi and others. This is the nature of social change and everyone has a role to play.” Gay rights activist Robin McGehee was also arrested after she had apparently helped the two discharged soldiers handcuff themselves to the fence. An officer who arrested McGehee said “I can’t say anything” on why she was taken into custody.

Clearly, Lt. Choi — who has been speaking out on the repeal of DADT for many months now — felt that this act of civil disobedience was the only way to make sure his message is heard. It’s acts of protest like this that make up much of the US history of civil rights and I can’t help but be impressed by the commitment it takes to take a stand like this for the greater good. It is far too soon to tell if today’s protest will have any effect on whether or not the DADT policy gets repealed but today’s protest will surely go down in the annals of the history of gay rights in this country. I sincerely hope that Choi‘s efforts today will result in the eventual repeal of the DADT policy. We’ll just have to see if the powers that be will respond favorably. What do y’all think of today’s protest in DC?

Why so serious?
First Look: Kathy Griffin On ‘Law & Order: SVU’

Comedienne Kathy Griffin is trying on a dramatic role for size in an upcoming episode of Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit. Here is our first look at Kathy in one of her scenes with SVU hottie Christopher Meloni and some deets about this serious new role:

Kathy Griffin is used to making people laugh, but her upcoming guest role on NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU” was no laughing matter. The comedian plays a gay activist who works with Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) after a woman from a lesbian community is found dead. The episode airs March 3 at 10 p.m.. “With [the cast and the crew] watching you, and the pressure is on, when you mess up a line, you don’t want to do it again,” Griffin told The News. “My mind is programmed to go for the joke. My whole life is looking for the joke, but this was no joke. I didn’t want to disappoint them.” Griffin, who stars in her own Bravo reality series, “My Life on the D-List,” scored the plum guest role after “L&O” executive producer Neal Baer attended last September’s Creative Arts Emmys (or “Schmemmys,” as Griffin calls them), which Griffin hosted. Without even meeting the funny lady in person, Baer vowed to a Griffin pal that he’d write her a part that would get her an Emmy nomination. “I do think it’s a little bit A-list that I’m in this category where people just write parts for me and I don’t even have to audition,” said Griffin, who is in town for her three-night concert, which kicks off tonight at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. When Griffin received Baer’s script, she was relieved to see that she would be playing Babs Duffy, a “white, lesbian Al Sharpton,” rather than a goofy version of herself. “Playing myself gets kind of boring,” said Griffin. “There’s enough of myself already out there. I’m sick of myself … By the third day, I worked up the courage to ask Mariska if she could run lines with me. She said, ‘I want to be there for you,’” Griffin said. “At first, I thought she was kidding … she and Chris were so helpful.” In the episode, Griffin’s and Hargitay’s characters share a kiss – Griffin’s first same-sex smooch. “I was so nervous about getting my character right that the last thing I gave a s- about was kissing a girl,” said Griffin. “When it came to the actual kiss, I kind of don’t remember it. I’d love to sit here and say her lips are soft, but you’d have to ask Babs.”

Wow … who knew that Kathy Griffin had this in her? I’m SO curious to see how she does with this role … I’ll bet she nails it. David is a big fan of all the Law & Orders so I’m sure this episode will be on our DVR for me to check out. While I’m more a fan of the CSI: shows, I’ll deffo be checkin’ out this ep of L&O to see if Kathy‘s got what it takes to be a serious actress. What do y’all think … can she handle it?

Celebrates 2 birds with 1 stone
‘Sucky’ Birthday, Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin, clad in a sexy and revealing Santa costume, was on hand for a double celebration at The Abbey in West Hollywood, CA last night. Not only was Kathy celebrating her 49th birthday (which is today, actually) but she was also celebrating the release of her new Xmas album Suckin’ It for the Holidays. Here are a couple pics from her fun night last night:

Let me just say … Kathy Effin’ Griffin looks damn good for 49. As much as it kinda creeps me out to type out the words, she makes that sexy Santa suit look good. It makes sense that she would want to spend such a special evening with her gays in WeHo, I understand it was a fab event. Let’s send all our Birthday Lurve to Kathy today … cuz she might be lookin’ a hot tranny mess by the time she turns 50 next year ;)

Claims marriage woes played a part in Palin's decision to quit her job
Levi Johnston Insists Marital Problems Led To Sarah Palin’s Resignation

After causing a sensation on the red carpet at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards Sunday evening on the arm of comedienne Kathy Griffin and then causing a stir as the pair walked out of a dinner date hand in hand afterward, we learn that Levi Johnston gave a short interview to RadarOnline to discuss his opinions on why former Governor Sarah Palin quit her job as the Alaska Executive. Earlier this month, AlaskaReport blogged that the Palins are planning to split due for various reasons, not the least of which was marital infidelity on both sides … while Johnston doesn’t make that claim in this new interview, he does insists that marital problems were part of the reason for Sarah Palin‘s decision to quit her job as governor — and money was the other reason:

Sarah Palin’s marriage has been in trouble from the beginning, says Levi Johnston, the father of their grandson Tripp and ex-fiance of daughter Bristol. What’s more Levi told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive video interview that he believes marital problems were behind Palin’s decision to resign as governor of Alaska. When we asked if the couple had marital problems, Levi responded: “Oh yeah. There have been from day one.” RadarOnline.com then asked if Levi thought marital problems were the reason she stepped down from political office. Levi answered, “Oh yeah I do.” He didn’t stop there. He also told RadarOnline.com that he thinks Palin will be chasing an even bigger paycheck now that she’s out of public office and on the speaker circuit. “She took the money,” he said. “That’s what she’s talked about, that’s what I’m gathering and I think that’s what she’s doing.” He did add that he did not believe cheating was a factor in Sarah and Todd’s marriage.

While I contend that a 19 year old kid isn’t really the best source for this kind of information, it should be noted that Levi Johnston lived in the Palin home for many months last year and was privy to personal interactions that no one outside the family was privy to. Does the kid look like a famewhore? Yes. Does that mean that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about? No. My personal belief is that he is using true facts that he knows first hand in the hopes that he can parlay that information into a name for himself … Ricky Hollywood, I believe is what he’s going for. I’ve always been of the mind that Where there’s smoke, There’s fire. I don’t expect this is the last we’ve heard from Ricky, er, Levi Johnston … not by a longshot.

Um ... What??
Kathy Griffin Goes On A Dinner Date With Levi Johnston

Here’s the real WTF?! of the day … fiery comedienne Kathy Griffin was spotted on the arm of a hot young buck here in LA over the weekend as the pair walked out together from dining together at Katsuya — after they attended the 2009 Teen Choice Awards together. It turns out that the “hot young buck” in question was none other than Levi Johnston — who wants to be known by the new name Ricky Hollywood and is babydaddy to Bristol Palin‘s baby! Here are the photos:

When last we heard from Mr. Johnston Ricky Hollywood, he was dishing to the press about things he overheard from former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin while he was living with the Palins during “happier” times when he and Bristol were still together, raising their child. Now he’s playing toyboy to Kathy Griffin? I suspect that this hook-up is nothing more than a ploy by Griffin to whip up some publicity … after all, she previously stepped out with former photog/Britney Spears boyfriend Adnan Ghalib after Britney cast him aside as well as with Paris Hilton for a shopping trip on Robertson Blvd. We’ll prolly be hearing about/seeing this date on her Bravo reality TV show My Life on the D-List (cuz you don’t get more D-List than Levi Johnston). Truth be told … these two make a cute couple … perhaps this really wasn’t a publicity ploy and the couple are really involved. It would be a boon for both their careers … don’tcha think?

Comedy Central Roasts Joan Rivers

Last night friends and longtime compatriots of Joan Rivers were invited to the CBS Studios Lot in Studio City, CA for the Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers. In previous years, Comedy Central has hosted roast tribute events in honor of actors and comedians but this year they’ve pulled out all the stops for one of the most iconic, most enduring comics alive today … barely. Here are some of the folks who came out for the Roast of Joan Rivers last night:

I was very lucky to attend last night’s taping and shared some of the zingers that were said about Joan Rivers on my Twitter account last night. There were so many more that I would’ve loved to have shared but they were wholly inappropriate and grossly offensive … and that was exactly the point. Whitney Cummings, sidekick to Chelsea Handler, was my fave roaster of the night … her bit was ENTIRELY hilarious and horribly offensive. Mario Cantone, tho I love him, was the worst roaster of the bunch. Kathy Griffin did an amazing job as host of the event but Joan, naturally, stole the show. A woman who has been in the biz for as long as she has and has achieved so much success absolutely deserves to be honored in this manner … with tasteless joke after offensive slur all night long. She looked like she had the time of her life. It was really a great event. I’ll have more personal commentary a little later on today. But I have to let you all know that the Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers airs on Comedy Central on Sunday August 9. While I’m sure it will be HEAVILY censored, be on the look out for the uncensored version of the roast that will air in the wee, wee hours of Comedy Central after it premieres on the network in a couple of weeks. It’s funny, y’all. I can’t wait to see it again myself :)

Protesters rally in the streets for marriage equality
Celebs Rally In SoCal To Repeal Prop 8

After yesterday’s ruling by the California Supreme Court to uphold the Prop 8 ban on same-sex marriage, folks began rallying all around the State in an effort to peaceably protest that ruling. Here in West Hollywood, CA last night, celebs gathered with protesters to voice their displeasure with the court’s ruling and to begin building support for a new ballot initiative that will likely make it to the polls next year (2010) to Repeal Prop 8. Here are a few pics of some of the celebs who took to the streets in protest last night and some info about what went down:

After months of legal wrangling, the California Supreme Court announced on Tuesday to uphold a ban on same-sex marriages. Justices voted 6-1 to uphold Proposition 8, the voter-approved ban of gay marriage, dealing a major legal blow to the gay and lesbian community. California residents passed Prop 8 with 52 percent of the vote last November. The court also ruled that the roughly 18,000 marriages that took place before Prop 8 took effect are still valid. “It would be a shocking, strange thing in California law to essentially divorce those couples against their will,” said Jennifer Pizer, a lawyer from Lambda Legal. The crowd that had gathered outside the Supreme Court in San Francisco was mostly made up of gay rights supporters, and there was a huge outcry when the ruling was released at 10 a.m. After the announcement, the crowd began marching through San Francisco streets chanting, “Shame on you.” Crowds converged in West Hollywood Tuesday at 7 p.m. to oppose the state Supreme Court’s ruling. They marched to the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave., shutting down the intersection. That crowd was estimated to be approximately 5,000 strong. Five states have already legalized gay marriage, and gay marriage supporters had hoped California would be the sixth. The justices said the people do have the right to change their constitution through the ballot box. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger released a statement shortly after the ruling. “While I believe that one day, either the people or courts will recognize gay marriage, as governor of California, I will uphold the decision of the California Supreme Court,” he said. “Regarding the 18,000 marriages that took place prior to Proposition 8′s passage, the court made the right decision in keeping them intact.” The governor encouraged those responding to the decision to do so peacefully and lawfully … In Leimert Park, the ACLU and several faith-based groups held a news conference to respond to the state Supreme Court’s decision. “This is nothing short of apartheid in our own state, that some people were allowed to be married, and others will never have that right,” said Rabbi Denise Eger from Kol Ama Congregation. Local residents Eric Monriquez and Juan Ribera said the announcement was bittersweet for them. While they were happy their marriage would still be recognized by the state, they said they were very disappointed with the ruling. “We’re very sad for other couples,” Ribera said. Gay rights advocates had argued the ballot measure revised the state constitution’s equal protection clause, thus needing the legislature’s approval before it could be put to voters. Six months before Prop 8 passed, the California Supreme Court had ruled in favor of gay marriage, saying that denying gay marriage amounted to state-sanctioned discrimination. Gay rights supporters say the fight is far from over.

Very true, the fight is FAR from over … in fact, it has only just begun. The site RepealProp8.com was launched yesterday in the wake of the court’s ruling that seeks to put the issue back on the ballot for voters to decide again. Because California allows the amendment of the State constitution by a simple voter majority, the issue can go back on the ballot for voters to decide — again. The vote was so close last November that supporters, me included, believe that another vote would be sure to legalize same-sex marriage here in California. If YOU would like info on how you can help the cause, head over to RepealProp8.com. There is still a long road ahead but if we’ve learned nothing from the 5 States that have legalized same-sex marriage in this country, we’ve learned that true marriage equality for all will eventually come — even in places you’d least expect. Much props and love goes out to the celebs who came out to rally last night … including, Kathy Griffin & her mother Maggie, Deborah Gibson, Haylie Duff, Emmy Rossum, Lance Bass, Eliza Dushku and more. Eliza posted photos on her official Twitter page thruout the night. Props, too, to Governor Schwarzenegger for his support as well … here is a short vid clip of his comments to Jay Leno on The Tonight Show last night:

Marriage Equality will happen for all, I just know it … and now the work begins.
