Katherine Heigl & Josh Kelley Show Off Their Newly Adopted Daughter

Meet Nancy Leigh Heigl-Kelley
Friday, September 18th, 2009

Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs aren’t the only celeb couple showing off their new child today, happily marrieds Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley are also showing off the newest addition to their family. Katherine and Josh recently adopted a little girl they named Nancy Leigh, who they call Naleigh, and are happily showing her off to the world today:

Hollywood actress Katherine Heigl has issued the first photo of her newly-adopted daughter. The intimate picture shows the 30-year-old star in a close, loving embrace with husband, Josh Kelley, and 10-month-old Nancy Leigh, or ‘Naleigh’. Naleigh is a special needs baby, born in South Korea and she is named after Katherine’s mother Nancy and sister, Margaret Leigh. An insider told American magazine Us Weekly the fact that Katherine’s new baby has special needs will not be an issue. The insider said: ‘They are thrilled to have a child in their lives, no matter what the challenges.’ At this stage it is not quite clear exactly what Naleigh’s special needs are. Katherine completed the adoption of her new daughter this week after revealing she was soon to be a mother on Ellen DeGeneres’ chat show just last week. She revealed Naleigh’s special needs actually made the adoption process much quicker. Katherine told Ellen: ‘She is a special needs baby and because of that, it all moved so much faster. ‘They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible.’ Heigl’s own sister was also adopted from Korea, and she said it’s something she had always wanted to do. In fact, the Knocked Up star admitted she was so set on adoption that she even made sure hubby Josh was ok with adoption before they were engaged. She said: ‘I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understood that that was going to have to happen.’ Her spokesperson said: ‘Katherine, Josh and Naleigh are together and doing well.’

What a beautiful story … it’s always a joy to see new parents united with new children, whether those children are born or adopted into their new families. You can just see the love emanating in this happy family photo (even without all the added pink hearts). Much congrats and love goes out to Katherine and Josh on the addition of their new daughter! May they all enjoy a long and very happy lifetime of bliss together :)

The 35th Annual People’s Choice Awards Are Handed Out

'The Dark Knight' cleans up as fans pick their entertainment faves
Thursday, January 8th, 2009

For the 35th year, the People’s Choice Awards were handed out to honor various entertainment outlets and actors as chosen by the people themselves. Last night’s award show was held at the Shrine Auditorium here in LA and brought out a cavalcade of celebs to collect their awards. The big winner of the night was The Dark Knight, which took home 5 People’s Choice Awards … but it turned out to be a big night for a few other folks as well. Here are some photos from the show and the press room and a run-down on who won what at last night’s affair:

Batman movie “The Dark Knight” soared away with five People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday including favorite movie and on-screen pairing for stars Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger to kick off Hollywood’s annual awards season. Country singer Carrie Underwood, who rose to fame on television talent show “American Idol,” was another big winner, hauling in three People’s Choice Awards for favorite female singer, country song “Last Name,” and star under 35 years-old. “Fans and people voting for me are what gave me a career in the first place,” Underwood said, acknowledging the voting by music lovers. “This is an amazing night.” The People’s Choice Awards, in its 35th edition this year, are a widely watched measure of popular appeal for Hollywood stars and they mark a starting point for the industry’s annual awards season which runs through the Oscars, the world’s top film awards, that take place in February. Adam Sandler was named funniest male star, Reese Witherspoon favorite female movie star, and Kate Hudson top leading lady among winners in more than 40 categories covering film, television, music and even online entertainment.

Sandler, Witherspoon and Hudson all echoed a familiar theme of the night by saying People’s Choice honors were special because they were voted on by fans, as opposed to critics or members of industry groups. The ceremony also has a more casual atmosphere compared to TV’s Emmy’s or the film industry’s Oscars, where black ties and ball gowns are mandatory. Noting that difference, Katherine Heigl, who accepted the trophy for best comedy movie for her “27 Dresses,” told reporters backstage that she wore a pants suit because “it was after the holidays, so I didn’t want to wear anything strapless or anything I had to suck in my stomach for.” Among film honors, “Dark Knight,” which was 2008’s top film at box offices with global ticket sales of nearly $1 billion, also proved to be the No. 1 movie of the night. Along with best film and on-screen match-up, it hauled in awards for favorite action movie, superhero for Bale as Batman, and for its cast. “The Secret Life of Bees” was the winner of best film drama and favorite independent film, and animated “Wall-E” was the No. 1 family film for People’s Choice voters. In the TV arena, medical show “House” was named favorite TV drama, and “Two and a Half Men” was best TV comedy. “The Mentalist” was top new TV drama while “Gary Unmarried” was the No. 1 new TV comedy. “House” star Hugh Laurie took home the trophy for favorite male TV star, and Christina Applegate took the honor of top female TV star for “Samantha Who?” Applegate, who revealed earlier this year that she underwent surgery for breast cancer, said the award meant a lot to her after a difficult year.” “I feel great. I really do,” she told reporters backstage. “Each week gets easier and each week gets better.” Ellen DeGeneres was named best TV talk show host and “Dancing With the Stars” was the people’s pick for No. 1 competition or reality TV show. Along with Underwood, top winners in music included Kid Rock for favorite rock song “All Summer Long,” Rascal Flatts for favorite group, Chris Brown best male singer and Katy Perry with best pop tune “I Kissed a Girl.”

I love the People’s Choice Awards primarily because the winners are determined by the people … which is unlike any other major award show. I had tickets to attend last night’s show but couldn’t make it because of a last minute meeting I had to attend late yesterday afternoon. As much as it bums me out that I couldn’t attend, I’m very happy with the way other things are going in my personal life right now … but I’m digressing. Much congrats to the winners of the PCAs this year. Let’s see if The Dark Knight is able to secure any other nominations and awards as the Awards Season carries on. ‘Marley & Me’ Premieres In Hollywood

Bow wow wow
Friday, December 12th, 2008

Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson and gads of other celebs made their way out to the Mann Village Theater in Westwood, CA (the site of the LA premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button earlier this week) for the Hollywood premiere of their new movie Marley & Me. Once on the red carpet, the topic turned from this dog movie to the subject of Jen’s sexy GQ coverphoto … which Jen claims isn’t meant to make a statement … it is what it is:

Looking stunning and dressed for the occasion, provocative cover girl Jennifer Aniston worked the red carpet with costar Owen Wilson at Thursday’s Los Angeles premiere of their comedy Marley and Me, at the Mann Village Theater in Westwood. Summing up the film’s universal appeal – Marley is a tale about a dog – Aniston, 39, called it “a true story, about a family and their life.” With nearly everyone also interested in the tale behind Aniston’s new eye-opening GQ cover, the star was asked what sort of message she was trying to send by wearing nothing more than a necktie for the magazine. She replied, with a laugh: “I wasn’t trying to make any kind of statement!” Aniston’s boyfriend, John Mayer, did have something to say, on the other hand. Arriving about 10 minutes before Aniston and Wilson, the musician told reporters that he was there to “support my girl.” Meanwhile, Marley costars Eric Dane and Alan Arkin also spoke up – in support of Aniston’s GQ pose. “I’m going to renew my subscription,” said Dane. “”She always looks fabulous, she will look fabulous at 50.”

LOL … I think that fabulous at 50 comment was meant as a compliment even tho it kinda doesn’t sound like one. While Brad’s premiere culled together all of the Hollywood A-Listers, Jen could take comfort in the fact that Kristin Cavallari of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County fame deigned to make an appearance at the event ;) Honestly, I doubt Jen cared who was there as long as she had her boo John Mayer there to lend his support. After the jump, check out a couple photos of Mayerston arm in arm as they made their way out together from the Marley & Me afterparty last night …

Hollywood Gets ‘Hot’

Raises much-needed money for AIDS research
Monday, August 18th, 2008

Saturday night saw the 3rd Annual Hot In Hollywood event take place in, you guessed it, Hollywood, CA. Hot In Hollywood is a celebration benefiting charities dedicated to the education, prevention, testing and treatment of HIV/AIDS. Here are a few pics of some of the celebs who came out in support of this year’s event and some deets on what went down Saturday night:

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi didn’t make it to Saturday’s Hot in Hollywood charity event in Los Angeles; they were busy getting married. But there were plenty of other stars singing and dancing to a ’60s-themed evening of song benefiting the AIDS Healthcare Foundation … Host America Ferrera started off the show with a version of the James Bond theme song Diamonds Are Forever and was later joined by co-star Ana Ortiz on Goldfinger. Ferrera’s TV nephew, Mark Indelicato, threw on a fringed jacket to channel a young Michael Jackson on I Want You BackHow I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris, via prompts from the audience, turned Puff the Magic Dragon into the X-rated Ruby the Magic Unicorn … Candis Cayne of Dirty Sexy Money wowed the crowd with a Vegas-ready performance of Thirteen Men, first sung by Ann-Margret. The transsexual actress said she’s still surprised by fans who want her autograph … With nuptial news in the air, talk turned to Grey’s Anatomy’s T.R. Knight and his steady of eight months, Mark Cornelson. When asked if they were planning a ceremony, Knight simply smiled and said, “I’m very happy that you can ask that question. Very, very happy. And I hope it gets asked a lot.”

Awww … this sounds like it was such a great event. Hot In Hollywood keeps getting bigger and better with each passing year and I am thrilled that so many folks in Hollywood are happily embracing an event like this that is absolutely committed to raising money for HIV/AIDS education, prevention, treatment and research. Kudos to all the stars who make it a priority in their lives to give of their time and money to such important causes.

Did Katherine Heigl Shoot Herself In The Foot With Her Mouth?

Is Isobel "Izzie" Stevens headed for an empty elevator shaft?
Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Katherine Heigl, who infamously took herself out of Emmy Award consideration this year, may have also taken herself out of future employment on her hit TV show Grey’s Anatomy. After proclaiming to the world that she didn’t believe she was worthy of an Emmy Award because of the poor material she was asked to work with on her show, it is being reported that her Grey’s boss Shonda Rhimes may be ready to get rid of Katherine’s charcter, Izzie Stevens, on the show. E!’s Marc Malkin has got all the deets:

Is Katherine Heigl dead to the producers of Grey’s Anatomy? Maybe. Latest buzz hissing from the set of the ABC hit is that creator Shonda Rhimes may be entertaining the idea of killing off Heigl’s Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens because of the now infamous remarks Heigl made about the upcoming Emmys. Lest you forget, Heigl took herself out of the running for this year’s Emmy race because she felt the writers failed to give her enough good material to work with last season. “It’s not good there,” a source tells me of the Grey’s Anatomy set. “Shonda is pissed. They’re thinking of killing her off. They want Izzie dead.” While a dead Izzie may never happen, it would be an ironic twist, because industry insiders have long speculated that Heigl wants to ditch the show.

LOL! This so reminds me of the Friends ep where Joey gave an interview to Soap Opera Digest telling the mag that he wrote his own lines on Days of our Lives and then the angry Days writers killed off his character by throwing him down an empty elevator shaft. Do they have elevators on the set of Grey’s Anatomy? Cuz … if so, Izzie may eventually end up at the bottom of one of them very soon.
