The TV Guide
Dear Mr. President-Elect

Yesterday was my last full day here in Detroit and while I’m very sad to be leaving for SoCal in a couple of hours, I’m really looking forward to the warmer weather. Tracey and Zakiya came over to Sarah and Mark’s place (where I’m staying) to hang out for a little bit yesterday afternoon. I recorded a short clip of Princess Zakiya talking about President-elect Barack Obama … a topic she came up with all on her own. The little girl is growing up so fast and she is now paying attention to things she sees on TV on the news. I whipped out my little Flip Video camera and recorded this little rant:

LOL! Tracey tells me that she saw the excitement in people since Obama has been elected and she is happy to talk to anyone about her endorsement of our new president. I know it looks like propaganda but my girl is smart, she knows what’s what all on her own ;)

Sarah, Mark and I had planned on going out to the movies last night but our laziness and the bitter cold got the better of us … we ended up staying home. But, we did make time to participate in Join The Impact‘s new campaign to help win same-sex marriage rights in this country. You may recall that they were the folks who organized the National Day of Protest for Marriage Equality last weekend and now they’ve started a new postcard campaign. Click HERE for all the deets but essentially, folks are being asked to send a postcard from their hometown and mail it to President-elect Obama before Thanksgiving asking him to help repeal the Defense of Marriage Act once he takes office. Here are pics of Sarah, Mark and me with our postcards that will be mailed to Obama this week:

I really love this idea and am happy to participate. I urge y’all interested in fighting for marriage equality to participate as well.

As I said, I’m off to LA in a couple of hours but I have to send out all my love to the fine city of Detroit for another great trip. I’ll be back again for Xmas … but I gots to get back to the warmth of SoCal right about now. I’m meeting up with Darion, Steph and Alek upon my arrival in LA tonight for a midnight screening of Twilight. OY! It’s gonna be a long night ;)

National Day Of Protest Against Marriage Discrimination

Protest rallies against the passage of Proposition 8, which legalized marriage discrimination in the State of California, have taken place every day since Election Day last week and will continue this week and in the weeks after. A few Pink readers who live outside of California have been asking for information regarding what can be done in their parts of the country to make their voices heard as well. I am happy to report that Join the Impact is organizing a National Day of Protest against the passage of Proposition 8 here in California and FOR THE NEED of marriage equality in this country as a whole. Here is the flyer that is being distributed (which can be downloaded HERE) by organizers who are asking that YOU put up in your cities to alert people of the protest:

You can find more information at jointheimpact.com about the National Day of Protest. For folks here in SoCal, you can click HERE to see an updated list of the protest rallies that are being planned for the coming week. Additionally, repealh8.org is a site that has been set up to update the ongoing plans for overturning the passage of Prop 8 here in California.

Because I will be in Grand Rapids, MI on Saturday November 15, I’m not sure if I will be able to make it out to the Michigan rally that is scheduled to take place in Detroit but YOU can click HERE to see a list of locations where the rallies will take place in your States on the 15th. The passage of Prop 8 here in California (and similar propositions in Florida, Arizona and Arkansas) does not just impact the citizens of those States — nor does it merely impact the lives of the GLBT community — its passage is an affront to Liberty and Justice For All in this country and threatens to undermine the very things that this country stands for. I feel it is very important to stand up for marriage equality in this country. Like so many times before in our nation’s history, the people are being called upon to oppose injustice and discrimination in this country. While we have made great strides in other areas, there is still much work to be done.
