A wedding on New Year’s Eve – spectacular! We are thrilled to hear that Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir tied the knot with his gorgeous bf Victor Voronov over the weekend! But hold on one sec — they haven’t had the wedding yet.

I’m not certain if any of y’all know this but … Olympic ice skater Johnny Weir has not actually come out as gay … until now. In his new memoir, Welcome to my World (due out next Tuesday January 11), Weir finally confirms his worst kept secret … that he is a gay man. While this may not sound significant to most, I think it’s really fantastic that Johnny is finally comfortable enough to publicly confirm his sexuality to the world.

In their yearly effort to honor “a diverse group of men and women who made significant strides in the gay community”, Out magazine has released their Out 100 list of men and women who have made meaningful advancement for the GLBT community and have revealed the people they have chosen to grace the cover of The Out 100 issue … behold:

Various celebs of size and stature made their way to the Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY yesterday to attend the 136th Kentucky Derby. In all honesty, I’m guessing that most of these celebs were only interested in showing off their fancy outfits on the red carpet at the Derby yesterday (Johnny Weir and your fabulous hat, I’m talking to you!) but it sounds like a great day was had by all. Here are a few photos of some of the celebs who attended the race this year and a run-down of this year’s Derby:

The starting gate sprung open in the Kentucky Derby, with 19 horses scrambling for position. One jockey knew exactly where he was headed. Calvin Borel deftly tucked Super Saver along the rail Saturday on a track turned into creamy peanut butter by heavy rain. Once again, he was in his favorite spot, getting a clear path all the way through the goo. That’s why they call him “Bo-rail” and, for the third time in four years, he took the shortest path to the winner’s circle. Borel found only one horse in his way, and once he steered Super Saver around front-running Conveyance, another Run for the Roses was his. The most wide-open Derby in years ended with a sure thing — Borel crossing the finish line and punching the air with this right fist, this time raising it toward a leaden sky. “I knew nothing was going to run him down,” he said, referring to his bay colt. The jockey’s magic touch on his home track gave trainer Todd Pletcher his first Derby victory after 24 failures with a 2 1/2-length victory over Ice Box. “Calvin Borel is a great rider anywhere he goes, but at Churchill Downs he’s even five lengths better,” Pletcher said. “He knows how to ride this track and gets along with his colt beautifully.” Borel’s ride at his home track nearly duplicated the one he turned in last year aboard 50-1 shot Mine That Bird, except he and Super Saver went off at lower odds and were never in last place. Now the trio heads to Baltimore for the Preakness on May 15. “Calvin already said he’s going to win the Triple Crown,” Pletcher said, “so I guess we’d better go there.” The Triple Crown was last won 32 years ago by Affirmed. The last Derby winner to break from Super Saver’s No. 4 post was 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. Borel almost pulled off his own personal triple last year. Mine That Bird won the Derby, then Borel switched to filly Rachel Alexandra to win the Preakness before going back to Mine That Bird in the Belmont Stakes. They finished third as the 6-5 favorite. On Saturday, he was confident enough in his colt and his knowledge of the track to take him off the lead in the early going of the 1 1/4-mile race. In all but one of his six previous races, Super Saver had never been farther back than second in the early stages. Borel knew that strategy wouldn’t work in a 20-horse Derby field on a tiring, sloppy track that had been pelted by heavy rain early in the day. So they hugged the rail in sixth place, while many of his rivals were well off the fence in the muck. “We all know what he’s going to do,” said Robby Albarado, who finished 14th aboard Dean’s Kitten. “He just does it anyway.” Said Borel: “I was just taught it’s the shortest way around.” Super Saver was timed in 2:04.45 as the 8-1 second-choice behind favorite Lookin At Lucky, whose 6-1 odds tied Harlan’s Holiday in 2002 for the longest priced favorite in 136 runnings. He paid $18, $8.80 and $6.

… Um … I honestly have no idea what any of this means … at all. I know a horse named Super Saver won the race and that horse was ridden by a jockey named Calvin Borel who won his 3rd Kentucky Derby in 4 years (a feat that has never been done before) and his second Derby in a row. Other than that … no idea. I’m just here for the hats … which, I gotta say, were a bit of a let-down. Save for Johnny Weir, most of the hats donned by the celebs this year were pretty lackluster. I gotta give props to Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz for bringin’ the old skool favor to the red carpet. Ashlee looked like she came straight from the 1920s and Pete looked like an extra from Newsies. Well done. I suppose congrats are in order for Super Saver and his jockey Clavin Borel but, yeah, I really don’t get any of this at all. Do you?

If the Vanity Fair Oscar Party is the biggest party for celebs to be seen at on Oscar night then the annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party is a close second. Unlike the VF party, tho, Sir Elton‘s party is a fundraiser meant to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation which, in turn, funds other needy AIDS research programs. Here are a few photos from the Elton John Oscar Party red carpet and a press release announcement of just how much money was raised by this year’s event:

Sir Elton John and David Furnish hosted the 18th Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) Academy Awards® Viewing Party and raised $3.7 Million for the fight against AIDS. Presented by Chopard, Jo and Raffy Manoukian and Neuro Drinks, the EJAF Viewing Party continues to be the leading fundraiser on Oscar night in Hollywood. The evening began with a cocktail reception, dinner and viewing of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, followed by a very exciting live auction and high voltage performance by the iconic Grace Jones. Throughout its 18 years, the event has hosted some of the biggest stars in film, television and music. This year was no exception with celebrities such as Adam Levine, Alan Cumming, Allison Iraheta (American Idol), Apolo Ohno, Betty White, Chace Crawford, Christina Hendricks, Cory Monteith (Glee), Debi Mazar, Eric & Janet McCormack, Gina Gershon, Hayden Panettiere, Heidi Klum, J.C. Chasez, Jason Mraz, Jeremy Piven, Joaquin Phoenix, John Waters, Josh Groban, K.D. Guests arrived for the 18th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Award Viewing party to a custom-built tent adorned in hues of red and tangerine, a decor inspired by designer Antony Todd’s travels. Chef Wayne Elias of Crumble Catering prepared an exquisite five-course meal including dishes such as Risotto Carnaroli with saffron liquorice and king prawns and “Wahoo” with black olives, pine nuts, fresh herbs and stewed lentils. As is tradition, immediately following dinner, auctioneer Jamie Niven of Sotheby’s led the evening’s live auction. Items auctioned included a Lisa Jack contact sheet of a portrait sitting of now President Barack Obama which was taken at Occidental College in 1980. This rare piece sold for an astounding $60K. Guests also had the opportunity to bid on a private tennis lesson given by legendary tennis pros Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, which sold for $70K and the costume that Sir Elton John wore during his performance with Lady Gaga at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. The costume sold for $30K. A fantastic 48″X48″ William Claxton piece, “Chet Baker (Piano), Hollywood, 1954,” was sold for $90K. The lucky winner of this photograph also got to take home Claxton’s Nikon F 35mm Camera as well as the “Jazz Life” trade edition book. Guests also had the chance to bid on a watch from the Elton John Watch Collection designed by Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele. The dazzling limited timepiece was sold for $90K. Other auction items included an incredible photograph by Robert Mapplethrope called “Grace Jones, 1984″ which was sold for $85K and surprised his guests with the opportunity to bid on a 7-day stay for 10 people in Elton’s home in Windsor or Nice and the winners of this bid will also be able to experience the wonderful dishes cooked by Elton’s personal chef. The 7-day stay was sold for $140K.

Fantastic!! Sir Elton‘s Oscar Party is the place where celebs who do not (or can not) attend the Oscars show up to feel as if they are part of the night’s festivities … and, in the process, manage to raise millions for AIDS research. Truly, it is an amazing event. This party annual hosts the beautiful people … and not just the outwardly beautiful but the inwardly beautiful who are happy to donate to such a worthy cause. You know any party that attracts the likes of Betty White has to be a great event. Congrats to Elton for all his hard work this year! There is now over $13 million more dollars made available for AIDS research. Amazing!!
