Tony Romo & Joe Simpson Hit The Golf Course

Gee, looks like fun
Friday, January 9th, 2009

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo spent some quality male bonding time with his future ex-father-in-law Papa Joe Simpson as the pair were spotted enjoying a nice game of golf together here in SoCal this week. Here are a few pics of BFFs Tony and Papa Joe at the Weddington Gold & Tennis Club in Studio City, CA havin’ themselves a ball:

I can’t even imagine how much fun it must be to hang out with Papa Joe Simpson … he looks like a hoot! I’m sure the thing that Nick Lachey misses most about being married to Jessica Simpson is all the male bonding time he had to endure with Papa Joe. But, it should be said, in Joe’s defense … he really has laid off on the creepy father/manager stuff in the past year or so. I was worried that his infamous meddling would interfere with Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s relationship and, surprisingly enough, Papa Joe has been pretty hands off. Here’s hoping he’s has really decided to stop interjecting himself so forcefully into his daughter’s lives … and here’s hoping that Tony Romo isn’t being forced to hang out with Papa Joe against his will just to keep enjoying Jessica Simpson’s goodies.

The Simpsons Visit Bronx Mowgli Wentz

Papa Joe & Jessica meet the littlest Wentz
Friday, November 21st, 2008

Early this morning we learned that Ashlee Simpson had finally given birth to her first child with hubby Pete Wentz, a little boy the couple decided to name Bronx Mowgli, late Thursday. This afternoon, we get to see a couple photos of famous members of Ashlee’s family visiting with the newborn baby boy in at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center … behold:

As you can see, Grandpapa Joe Simpson had his cameraphone at the ready and was bizzy snappin’ pics of the little guy … presumably so the photos could be shared with family and friends but, considering Papa Joe’s penchant for making money off his children, it’s just as likely that he is planning on selling the pics of his newborn grandbaby as well. The caption of the second photo insists the person in the red coat is Jessica but it’s kinda hard to tell. I do know that Jess did talk to In Touch Weekly about her newborn nephew, tho, expressing her elation to the mag:

No one is happier to be an aunt than Jessica Simpson. “Bronx is beyond precious. I’m over the moon with joy,” Jessica Simpson tells In Touch about her sister Ashlee Simpson-Wentz’s baby boy, who was born on Thursday. “Life is a beautiful miracle. Ashlee and Pete are healthy, happy and enjoying every moment.”

I think it’s pretty safe to say that both the Simpson and the Wentz families are thrilled at the baby’s arrival. Whether or not they are as in love with the kid’s name as their parents are is another story … for another day.

Excuses, Excuses

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

The coverstory of the new issue of US Weekly focuses on the problems that Papa Joe Simpson’s meddling is causing for his eldest daughter Jessica Simpson and her hanging-by-a-thread relationship with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. The couple, who it was reported temporarily split a few weeks ago, have rekindled their romance … on Romo’s condition that Papa Joe back off and stop effing with their relationship. Papa Joe is defending his actions to exploit every facet of this children’s private lives for financial gain (ie. selling wedding photos, exclusive private family news, etc.) by essentially saying that he is just doing his job:

In its new issue, Us Weekly reports that Jessica Simpson’s controlling father Joe nearly destroyed her relationship with Tony Romo and was behind their brief split in May. Us reveals how the Dallas Cowboys quarterback gave the singer an ultimatum: Tell dad to back off! Joe defends himself, telling Us, “It’s unfair to criticize me for what every manager does for his or her clients. And in this business, where people can quickly turn on you, who better than a parent to be working for his children?” He went on, “A parent will always be there for his kids and never give up on them. I work hard seven days a week for my girls because I love them. Why in the world would I ever want to do anything that would hurt my children?”

It seems clear to pretty much anyone with eyes that Papa Joe was a major factor in the destruction of Jessica’s marriage to Nick Lachey and I can honestly believe that his meddling is causing the same destruction this time around for Jessimo. While I can agree that a parent can turn out to be an excellent manager for their children’s professional careers, I know of far too many instances where biz comes before family and money is what overshadows everything. I’ve always felt that Dina Lohan is trying to become the female version of Papa Joe Simpson … which says a lot about them both. I just hope, at the end of the day, that Daddy Simpson realizes that his daughters’ welfare is of paramount importance. It is possible to be both a manager and a good father … but the “father” part has to come first. [Source]
