Joan Rivers, who is enjoying a bit of a career resurgence these days due to her fantastic documentary film Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, was spotted in Beverly Hills, CA this week with her daughter Melissa Rivers and her grandson Edgar Cooper filming scenes for a new reality show that the ladies are working on together. Joan confirmed the news of the show on her official Twitter profile, which at first I thought was a joke … until these photos surfaced. Here are photos of Joan and co. in Beverly Hills and her tweet announcement about her new TV show:

I’m doing my own reality show. You’ll know it’s 100% realistic because we’re filming every episode in a plastic surgeon’s office. / Yes-seriously! It’s called “Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best” and it will air January 20th on @WEtv.

I think reality TV is ready for Joan Rivers. To be honest, I hadn’t given the woman a second thought in the past 15-20 years or so … but I now have new found respect for Joan since seeing her documentary film. Love her or hate her the woman works really hard and has been working really hard for decades. Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work shows a side of Rivers that I had not previously been aware of and endeared her to me entirely. I know her brashness can turn people off but the fragile emotion she displays in her film truly shows how much of a softy she is underneath her hard as nails exterior. I’m not sure we’ll be seeing much of that fragility in this new reality TV show but I’ll be tuning in for sure when it debuts next year.

Yikes!! Joan Rivers and the immeasurably tragic Bobby Trendy were spotted here in LA filming a new segment for Joan‘s TV show How’d You Get So Rich? Words fail at the level of … well, FAIL that is featured in these photos:

I’m pretty sure that TV Land, the network that airs How’d You Get So Rich?, is hoping to draw in viewers by featuring outrageous people but I shudder to imagine what type of audience is attracted by Bobby Trendy. I’m thinkin’ Joan decided to feature Bobby because she actually looks attractive in comparison. Mebbe Joan can give Bobby some better make-up tips and Bobby can, well, burn that fugly jacket so we never have to see it again? If I saw these two together on the public streets of LA, I’d deffo be running in the opposite direction … so, yeah, I think it’s safe to say this is one TV show I will NOT be watching. Ugh.

Last night friends and longtime compatriots of Joan Rivers were invited to the CBS Studios Lot in Studio City, CA for the Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers. In previous years, Comedy Central has hosted roast tribute events in honor of actors and comedians but this year they’ve pulled out all the stops for one of the most iconic, most enduring comics alive today … barely. Here are some of the folks who came out for the Roast of Joan Rivers last night:

I was very lucky to attend last night’s taping and shared some of the zingers that were said about Joan Rivers on my Twitter account last night. There were so many more that I would’ve loved to have shared but they were wholly inappropriate and grossly offensive … and that was exactly the point. Whitney Cummings, sidekick to Chelsea Handler, was my fave roaster of the night … her bit was ENTIRELY hilarious and horribly offensive. Mario Cantone, tho I love him, was the worst roaster of the bunch. Kathy Griffin did an amazing job as host of the event but Joan, naturally, stole the show. A woman who has been in the biz for as long as she has and has achieved so much success absolutely deserves to be honored in this manner … with tasteless joke after offensive slur all night long. She looked like she had the time of her life. It was really a great event. I’ll have more personal commentary a little later on today. But I have to let you all know that the Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers airs on Comedy Central on Sunday August 9. While I’m sure it will be HEAVILY censored, be on the look out for the uncensored version of the roast that will air in the wee, wee hours of Comedy Central after it premieres on the network in a couple of weeks. It’s funny, y’all. I can’t wait to see it again myself :)
