Celebs Come Out For The 136th Kentucky Derby

Various celebs of size and stature made their way to the Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY yesterday to attend the 136th Kentucky Derby. In all honesty, I’m guessing that most of these celebs were only interested in showing off their fancy outfits on the red carpet at the Derby yesterday (Johnny Weir and your fabulous hat, I’m talking to you!) but it sounds like a great day was had by all. Here are a few photos of some of the celebs who attended the race this year and a run-down of this year’s Derby:

The starting gate sprung open in the Kentucky Derby, with 19 horses scrambling for position. One jockey knew exactly where he was headed. Calvin Borel deftly tucked Super Saver along the rail Saturday on a track turned into creamy peanut butter by heavy rain. Once again, he was in his favorite spot, getting a clear path all the way through the goo. That’s why they call him “Bo-rail” and, for the third time in four years, he took the shortest path to the winner’s circle. Borel found only one horse in his way, and once he steered Super Saver around front-running Conveyance, another Run for the Roses was his. The most wide-open Derby in years ended with a sure thing — Borel crossing the finish line and punching the air with this right fist, this time raising it toward a leaden sky. “I knew nothing was going to run him down,” he said, referring to his bay colt. The jockey’s magic touch on his home track gave trainer Todd Pletcher his first Derby victory after 24 failures with a 2 1/2-length victory over Ice Box. “Calvin Borel is a great rider anywhere he goes, but at Churchill Downs he’s even five lengths better,” Pletcher said. “He knows how to ride this track and gets along with his colt beautifully.” Borel’s ride at his home track nearly duplicated the one he turned in last year aboard 50-1 shot Mine That Bird, except he and Super Saver went off at lower odds and were never in last place. Now the trio heads to Baltimore for the Preakness on May 15. “Calvin already said he’s going to win the Triple Crown,” Pletcher said, “so I guess we’d better go there.” The Triple Crown was last won 32 years ago by Affirmed. The last Derby winner to break from Super Saver’s No. 4 post was 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. Borel almost pulled off his own personal triple last year. Mine That Bird won the Derby, then Borel switched to filly Rachel Alexandra to win the Preakness before going back to Mine That Bird in the Belmont Stakes. They finished third as the 6-5 favorite. On Saturday, he was confident enough in his colt and his knowledge of the track to take him off the lead in the early going of the 1 1/4-mile race. In all but one of his six previous races, Super Saver had never been farther back than second in the early stages. Borel knew that strategy wouldn’t work in a 20-horse Derby field on a tiring, sloppy track that had been pelted by heavy rain early in the day. So they hugged the rail in sixth place, while many of his rivals were well off the fence in the muck. “We all know what he’s going to do,” said Robby Albarado, who finished 14th aboard Dean’s Kitten. “He just does it anyway.” Said Borel: “I was just taught it’s the shortest way around.” Super Saver was timed in 2:04.45 as the 8-1 second-choice behind favorite Lookin At Lucky, whose 6-1 odds tied Harlan’s Holiday in 2002 for the longest priced favorite in 136 runnings. He paid $18, $8.80 and $6.

… Um … I honestly have no idea what any of this means … at all. I know a horse named Super Saver won the race and that horse was ridden by a jockey named Calvin Borel who won his 3rd Kentucky Derby in 4 years (a feat that has never been done before) and his second Derby in a row. Other than that … no idea. I’m just here for the hats … which, I gotta say, were a bit of a let-down. Save for Johnny Weir, most of the hats donned by the celebs this year were pretty lackluster. I gotta give props to Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz for bringin’ the old skool favor to the red carpet. Ashlee looked like she came straight from the 1920s and Pete looked like an extra from Newsies. Well done. I suppose congrats are in order for Super Saver and his jockey Clavin Borel but, yeah, I really don’t get any of this at all. Do you?

... and all day long
Jerry O’Connell Rocks The Speedo Right

Yesterday we learned that actor and dad of twins Jerry O’Connell was selected as one of People magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive and we got an eyeful of the man wearing nothing but a speedo for his People photo. Today we learn that the speedo pic is only one of many that were snapped all day long as People magazine cameras followed Jerry for his People photoshoot. Here are a few screencaps from a new video posted online that show speedo-clad O’Connell doing other menial tasks thruout his day:

Unfortch the video cannot be embedded here on the site so you’ll have to click HERE to watch it. It’s deffo worth your time … Jerry shows how much of a good sport he is and shows why it isn’t always a bad thing to see a man wearing a teeny weeny bikini ;)

By the fine folks at 'People' magazine
Johnny Depp Named The ‘Sexiest Man Alive’

Congratulations are in order for hottie actor Johnny Depp who has just been named the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine. As you may be aware, Depp also just became the highest paid actor ever after securing a $33 million paycheck to appear in Pirates of the Caribbean 4 … so needless to say, he is having a good week. Here is Johnny on the cover of the new issue of People magazine which pays tribute to Hollywood’s sexiest men:

Break out the Bordeaux, the whoopee cushions and the bangin’ Keith Richards guitar solos, because the 2009 Sexiest Man Alive party is officially under way. Bringing the fun with him wherever he goes – whether it’s onscreen in fizzy roles like Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise or at home with his family on their private Bahamian island – is just one reason why Johnny Depp, who also scored the honor in 2003, has joined an elite club of two-time SMA title holders (only Brad Pitt and George Clooney have matched the feat). At 46, the father of two still reigns as Hollywood’s most irresistible iconoclast; as one-of-a-kind as his beloved 15-year-old boots and as smoldering as his favorite Cuban cigars.

Considering how sexy Johnny really is, I’m surprised this is the photo that People decided to use for their cover … they deffo could’ve found a sexier photo, don’t you think? As you may recall, People selected Hugh Jackman as the Sexiest Man Alive last year … but there are 109 other sexy men who made the cut this year along with Johnny. After the jump, check out a few photos of some of the other dudes who were selected by People magazine this year …

This is Hallowe'en
Celebs Gettin’ Into The Hallowe’en Spirit

Happy Hallowe’en, y’all!! As some of you may be well aware, Hallowe’en is the pagan new year and is said to be the time of the year when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest … meaning that ghosts and ghouls can cross over into the world of the living to either trick or treat us with spooky fun. Hollywood is never immune to the infectious pull of Hallowe’en each year … here are a few photos of some celebs all dressed up in Hallowe’en costumes this year:

I love that Ellen DeGeneres dressed up as Oprah Winfrey‘s O Magazine, Mickey Rourke dressed up as … well … I’m not sure what he dressed up as but it’s fun that he covered up his normally leathery tanned skin. The O’Connell brothers, Charlie and Jerry, dressed up as a shark and Shamu the whale respectively at the Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times 17th annual Halloween Carnival held this week at Universal Studios … and Matthew McConaughey dressed up as the Bee Girl from the Blind Melon music video. See … it’s fun to dress up for Hallowe’en. I urge y’all to get in on the fun and dress up, too!! I am so excited for my costume! I wore a fun Incredible Hulk costume (see it HERE) to the Dead Man’s Bones concert last night but my main Hallowe’en costume will be revealed later on today (watch my Twitter). If YOU dress up today, I want you to snap pics and send them in to me via email (pinkisthenewblog @ gmail.com) and I’ll post as many of them on the blog as I can :) Have Fun! Happy Hallowe’en!!!

Also, enrolls in law school
Jerry O’Connell Takes His Twin Daughters Out For A Shopping Stroll

Here are a couple of supercute pics of new daddy Jerry O’Connell taking his twin daughters, Charlie Tamara Tulip and Dolly Rebecca Rose — who were born back in January, out for a grocery shopping errand run here in SoCal earlier this week. As you can see, neither Charlie Tulip or Dolly Rose needed to be conscious at any point during this excursion with their father who, it turns out, has just enrolled himself in law school. Yes, one thing has nothing to do with the other but I figured it’s all worth mentioning irregardless:

Jerry O’Connell has gone back to school, his rep confirms to Usmagazine.com. The actor, 35, recently enrolled at Los Angeles’ Southwestern Law School. “He is very excited to be starting his law school education here at Southwestern,” Leslie Steinberg, the school’s Assistant Dean of Public Affairs, tells Us. “He just had orientation last week, and he started classes this week.” Steinberg says that even though O’Connell — who welcomed twins with wife Rebecca Romijn last January — has “been out of school for awhile,” he’s “very excited and enthusiastic” about his studies. She adds that O’Connell decided to enroll there because he was “very impressed with the faculty and the vibe here. This is brand new to him as well. He’s very much looking forward to his education. A fellow student posted on Twitter‘s @CelebSightings earlier this week: “Actor Jerry O’Connell is at orientation @ Southwestern Law School. He is an entering night student, mingling @ mixer.”

Aww … I kinda love that Jerry has decided to go to law school. While I suppose it’s possible that he’s going back to school for the love of law, I think it’s more likely that he wants to provide a more stable life for his children. Let’s face it, Jerry O’Connell prolly peaked professionally when he was on My Secret Identity … a career in law is far more stable than an erratic acting career. Good for him!! And, can we pause for a sec to note how big his beautiful little girls have gotten already? 8 months old … damn, time flies.

Take mommy & daddy out for some sun
Dolly Rose & Charlie Tulip Go For A Stroll In Toronto

Here are a couple of really cute pics of twins Dolly Rose and Charlie Tulip Romijn-O’Connell out for a stroll with their parents Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell in Toronto, Canada yesterday afternoon. Rebecca is in town reportedly filming a new movie called The Love Child (which also stars Donald Sutherland) and Jerry and the twins are with her to lend their moral support … behold:

While this is one of the first times that we’ve seen the baby twins out and about in public it is not our very first look at them. As you may recall, Jerry showed off a cute photo of the just-born twins live on national TV just weeks after they were born in late December. The little ones have gotten quite big in the past few months … and they look darling. These little girls are going to be the cutest little twins ever … don’t you think?

Beyoncé's latest bid for an Academy Award
‘Obsessed’ Premieres In NYC

Ms. Fierce herself, Beyoncé Knowles, along with co-stars Idris Elba, Ali Later and Jerry O’Connell were all on hand last night for the NYC premiere of their new movie Obsessed which opens in theaters today. From the first moment that I saw the trailer for this film, I knew that it was gonna be my kind of movie … a sexy office temp tries to seduce her way into a happily married man’s pants and when she is brutally rebuffed she goes all psycho stalker and tries to weasel her way into his life anyways. Yes, it’s a story we’ve heard before … but this time around, Beyoncé stars as the wife and she ain’t takin’ stalker girl’s bullshizz at all. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals last night:

As you can see, fashion designer Christian Mr. Fierce Siriano was also in the hiz for last night’s premiere … as was Olympic Gold Medalist hottie Ryan Lochte (has this guy gotten cuter in the past few months … cuz, damn!). These guys know good entertainment when they see it. I am having the hardest time deciding what to do today … I desperately want to see Obsessed but I also want to see Fighting and The Informers as well (Fighting has Channing Tatum in it, so, duh … and The Informers is based on a Bret Easton Ellis book and I just love his work). I fear I might have to pull a double feature and see 2 of the 3 movies today … and because David and I are flying out to Chicago tomorrow afternoon, I might have to see the third move in the Windy City. Ugh … so many great movies, so little time. All I know is I simply must watch Beyoncé whip some ass … I am so there. Are any of y’all planning a trip out to the movie theater this weekend? What are YOU planning to see?

The twin babies make their worldwide debut on 'Live with Regis & Kelly'
Meet Dolly Rose & Charlie Tulip Romijn-O’Connell

Early last week we learned that Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell became the proud parents of twin daughters in late December that they named Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip. The very next day we spied Jerry making his exit from the hospital, proudly showing off his baby girls’ footprints … then, last Friday we saw pics of Jerry making a diaper run for his newborn daughters. Earlier today, Jerry played co-host on Live with Regis and Kelly and he just so happened to bring along a photo of Dolly Rose and Charlie Tulip, which he happily shared with the live TV audience:

Jerry O’Connell is one proud papa. So proud, in fact, that the actor cannot help but show off baby pictures on national television. “I don’t want to be one of those guys who is like, ‘Look at my babies,’ ” O’Connell, 34, said, joking with Kelly Ripa while cohosting Live with Regis and Kelly on Friday. “The second you have kids, you can’t help but be like, ‘I happen to have some photos of my children.’ ” The actor and wife Rebecca Romijn welcomed twin girls, Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, on Dec. 28. Since becoming a first-time dad, O’Connell is learning a lot – and has become a bit health and hygiene-obsessed. “I do wash my hands all the time,” he said, noting that he also picked up one important tip: How to properly change his daughters’ diapers and wipe. “Front to back,” O’Connell noted, prompting laughs from Ripa and the audience. One other tip to parents: Speak to children like they are adults. “I really try to not speak in baby talk,” he said. “I want them to be intelligent.” As for his growing family, O’Connell said he’s super-thrilled that he has twins. “These are my first kids and Rebecca’s first kids, and you can’t imagine just have one. It’s so much fun to have two of them. You throw them in the crib and they just play with each other.” The actor also credited his wife for being so hands on. “I have to give a lot of kudos to my wife,” he told Ripa. “[She] is now waking up every three hours and doing what we call the ‘Double Football,’ ” O’Connell said. “They eat at the same time!”

Oh my … these babies are so cute!! I’m not sure which one is which but they both look like little tiny peas in a pod. I’m sure that Jerry and Rebecca are OVER THE MOON with happiness right now. After the jump, check out a short video clip of Jerry showing off his baby girls on Live earlier today …

Someone looks like they need some sleep
Jerry O’Connell Does Diaper Duty For His Twins

Early in the week we learned that Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell became the proud parents of twin girls, Dolly Rose and Charlie Tulip, and a day later we saw pics of proud papa Jerry showing off his babygirls’ footprints. Today we get to see a couple new photos of papa Jerry but, this time, he’s lookin’ a little worse for the wear. Jerry had to run out to stock up on diapers and was lookin’ a bit bedraggled on his quest:

New babies always cause a bit of stress for new parents (especially in the wee hours of the night when they refuse to go to sleep) but with twins, you’ve got double the stress … as is evident on poor Jerry‘s face. Even still, I’m sure he’s very happy to be a new father and I’m sure he’s suffering these new parent pitfalls gladly. Tho, it sure looks like he could use some sleep, huh? I’m sure he and Rebecca will be able to enjoy a full night’s sleep sometime … prolly not soon, but sometime. Good luck with that!!
