It turns out that the break-up of Whitney and Jay may have been resolved cuz the pair were spotted enjoying some alone time in NYC earlier this week. Is true love back in effect for the pair?


Yeah, I’m not sure it’s so much a matter of true love back in bloom so much as it’s a harbinger that the second season of The City is about to go into production. Personally, I’m so over Jay … I think it would be ACE if Whitney found herself a new dude to fake love on the show. I understand Robert Buckley is lookin’ for work … can someone at MTV make that happen please?

Because reality and “reality TV” have a funny way of intersecting, this news might prove spoilerish for upcoming eps of the show but because life waits for no TV show, I suppose it’s worth reporting now … Whitney Port and her NYC paramour Jay Lyon are dunzo!


“The City’s” Whitney Port and her reality show boyfriend, Jay Lyon, have called it quits, a friend of Whitney’s reveals to In Touch. “They broke up on Monday,” said the friend. “Whitney did it over the phone, she was basically just not happy for a while and decided she really wanted to end it. Jay said they should talk things over, but it seems her mind is made up.” The couple agreed to take a break while Jay toured with his band Tamarama, as shown in this week’s episode, but later reconciled. “The episode that aired on Monday was filmed over a month ago. They got back together after that, but now Whitney has dumped him for good,” says the friend. The couple met and began dating last summer when Whitney began filming MTV’s “The City” and moved to Manhattan. They had been dating ever since. “There was no cheating or anything like that, she’s just finally fed up,” the friend says. “She asked her close friends for advice and thinks it’s best her and Jay both go their separate ways. He’s not going to change and she’s just sick of it.”

To be honest, I have a very hard time believing any showmance that is heavily featured on reality TV is actually real (consider Lauren LC Conrad was “dating” Doug Reinhardt on The Hills but was really dating actor Kyle Howard off screen) so this news of Whitney and Jay’s dunzoness doesn’t really smack of any sort of, well, reality. We know that The City was picked up for a second season and perhaps producers thought it would behoove the series to have Whitney a single lady in the city so that they can exploit Sex and the City-like scenarios in upcoming new eps of the show. To be honest, I was never a Jay fan and I’m glad to see him go. Real or not, I’m looking forward to seeing Whitney unattached and let loose on the town. Methinks her singlehood will make for much more entertaining TV to come.

Aussie love interest Jay Lyon made their way down to Miami Beach, FL this weekend for a little holiday … and they managed to bring the MTV cameras along with them, imagine that! Here are a few pics of Whitney and Jay gettin’ up close and personal on the beach this weekend:


The captions on these photos list the girl that Whitney is talking to as Olivia Palmero but after zooming in for a closer look, I do not believe that this girl is Olivia. We may have to wait until this particular episode airs to find out who Whitney and Jay are hanging out with. Oh and at first, I was gonna comment on how awesome Whitney’s DVF bag looked on the beach until I realized that it’s actually an H&M bag — you gotta love that Whitney is both fashionable AND frugal. Nice to see that Whitney and Jay are still together at least for this upcoming holiday together … I wonder what drama will unfold in this upcoming ep of The City.

Here is a new promo photo of star Whitney Port and her core group of new NYC BFFs … kinda like her Audrina Patridge and Heidi Montag but are named Erin Lucas (right) and Olivia Palermo (left):


Geeze … Erin and Olivia even kinda look like Audrina and Heidi. As you may recall, when The Hills started out, Lauren LC Conrad was supertight with Heidi and Audrina … and then, well, the drama happened. I suspect that these new ladies will prove the same sort of foils for Whitney in her quest to become a city girl. It’s a proven formula that works … so, why not. The other brunette chick is Samantha and she’s a model but her bio was not included in the press release. This may be an oversight or a hint at what’s to come. As disappointed as I am with the way The Hills has stopped trying to be a reality program, I am intrigued by this new show. At the very least, it’s a new beginning that will, hopefully, provide us hours of entertainment. While some claim that The City will be the new Sex and the City, I don’t really believe it … I’m sure there will be amazing fashions and lots of drama but I don’t think it’ll be as smart as SaTC was and is. I guess we’ll see when The City premieres on MTV on Monday December 29.

Since Whitney is a central figure on this new spin-off, she needs to start generating more drama of her own rather than merely reacting by way of various facial expressions to the adventures enjoyed by Lauren LC Conrad and her inner circle. Which means that Whitney had to dig up an old flame for use on the show. Apparently, she and ex-boyfriend Ben Lyons have been “heating up” over the past few weeks (according to In Touch Weekly, that is) just in time for filming … here are new pics of the cozy couple (tho, a few Pink readers think this dude is not Ben Lyons but an Aussie named Jay Lyon) filming scenes for The City at an eatery called Extra Virgin here in NYC this week:


Whitney Port of The Hills is getting cozy with her old flame Ben Lyons. The fashionista, whose NYC-set spin-off started filming in August, was spotted with the At the Movies co-host at the Rose Bar in the Big Apple on September 15. “They were ordering drinks and talking very closely,” an insider says. “Ben was being affectionate and making her laugh until they left at about 1 a.m.” Whitney and Ben were first linked in 2007, but refused to confirm they were a couple. “He was a good guy for a while,” Whitney, 23, said in 2007 about Ben.

I guess he’s a good guy again … and a dead ringer for Hills favorite Justin Bobby (Audrina Patridge’s main squeeze). If MTV is planning on basically duplicating The Hills almost exactly then they are off to a very good start. I’m not sure if this plan of attack will actually generate ratings but … I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

In related Hills news, MTV just announced that Britney Spears’s new single Womanizer will have it’s television broadcast debut during this Monday night’s episode of The Hills:

Britney Spears’ triumphant appearance at the “2008 MTV Video Music Awards” and her subsequent wins for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video Of The Year for “Piece of Me” proves to her fans and critics alike that the Pop Diva is on her way back to the top. As an added bonus for her fans, Britney’s first single “Womanizer” from her upcoming album Circus, will have its exclusive Television debut on MTV during the Monday, September 29th episode of its hit series “The Hills.” Britney Spears’ sixth studio album, Circus, on Jive Records will be released on Tuesday, December 2nd, her 27th birthday. “Womanizer” was officially released to radio on Friday, September 26th.

You wanna bet Womanizer is gonna be used in someway with the Doug dating Stephanie behind LC’s back storyline?
