'Nothing' really matters
Watch: Janet Jackson, ‘Nothing’

A few weeks ago we learned that Janet Jackson would be releasing new a new single titled Nothing, a single featured on the soundtrack to her new film Why Did I Get Married Too?, at the end of March and today we get our first look at the music video for the track. While we eagerly await the release of her new album of new material (which, I hear, has been pushed back), let’s take a listen to this new JJ song to sate our appetites:

As you might imagine, from the subject matter of the film, Nothing is a quiet ballad and NOT an up-beat dance track … still, despite the slowness of the track I like the song very much. Nothing hearkens back to the hit ballads that Janet released in the 90′s … and it’s just a pretty song. After the jump, check out the video for Nothing in full …

Janet also pays a visit to 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'
Release Date Of New Janet Jackson Single Announced

Back in August of last year, Janet Jackson announced that she would be releasing a new album in the “first quarter of 2010″ and it would seem that time has not yet arrived. Janet‘s producer and ex-beau Jermaine Dupri announced on Twitter yesterday that a new Janet single, taken from her new soundtrack album from her new film Why Did I Get Married, Too?, will be released on March 30 … with still no word about her new album:

Janet Jackson’s brand new single is going to be unleashed next week on March 30. Titled “Nothing”, the song is recorded by the singer for the soundtrack of upcoming movie “Why Did I Get Married Too?”. Confirming the song’s release date is producer Jermaine Dupri in a short message on his Twitter. “OH AND ON THE 30th IS WHEN I RELEASE THE NEW JANET RECORD (NOTHING) FROM THE WDIGM 2 SOUNDTRACK JUS ALIL INFO FOR THE JANET FANS,” he wrote.

So … now we get to look forward to Nothing from Ms. Janet. HMMM. Additionally, Janet Jackson was a last-minute guest addition to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno:

After the jump, check out her interview wherein she talk about her new movie, her new book, her thoughts on acting vs. singing and much, much more …

Sneak Peek
Janet Jackson Does ‘Wonderland’ Magazine

Janet Jackson is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Wonderland magazine and altho neither the coverstory interview nor the accompany photospread is available online (just yet), we do get to check out a fun preview of JJ in the mag:

Honestly, I’m not too keen on the cover photo because it looks like a photo she has taken many, many times before. Screaming — really, Janet? But the other preview photo that has been made available from this shoot is really cute. After the jump, check out the other photo and a short video clip that gives quick peeks of some of the other photos, too …

Who Dat?
Janet Jackson Hooks Up With A New Man

Back in July we learned the sad news that Janet Jackson had broken up with her longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri and today we learn that she has since moved on … with another man. JJ was spotted chillin’ with this handsome young buck in Paris, France this week … and the pair were lookin’ very cozy:

I understand that Janet and her new, as yet unidentified, man spent part of their day at the Decorative Arts Museum and part of their day shopping. No word when, where or how these two met but it looks like they have been getting to know one another very well. Is it serious? Only time will tell … but knowing Janet and her need for privacy, it may be a very long time before we learn more about this guy. And who knows, she might even be married to him long before we even find out about it.

Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night, y'all!!
The 2009 American Music Awards Are Handed Out

Earlier today we learned all about Adam Lambert‘s shocking performance at the 2009 American Music Awards last night, as well as Jennifer Lopez‘s embarrassing fall at the AMAs … but there were other things going on at the Nokia Theater where the AMAs took place that are kinda worth mentioning. Celebs strutted their stuff on the red carpet on the way into the show, other folks performed songs without incident and a few awards were even handed out … who knew? Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals:

Yes, peeps were lookin’ purdy and stuff on the red carpet but let’s get to the awards. Taylor Swift, who has been cleaning up at awards shows all year long already, was the biggest winner of the night … she took home 5 awards including Artist of the Year! Michael Jackson also enjoyed a big night last night taking home a few posthumous awards of his own as did Whitney Houston, who became the 7th person ever to win the International Artist of the Year award from the AMAs:

Country crossover star Taylor Swift overshadowed the late Michael Jackson at the American Music Awards on Sunday, winning five prizes including artist of the year. Jackson, who had been expected to enjoy a clean sweep, ended up with four awards. He and Swift went head-to-head in the artist of the year race, the ceremony’s final prize. Other multiple winners included hip-hop acts Jay-Z and the Black Eyed Peas, with two each. Swift, 19, was also named favorite female artist in the pop/rock and country categories, and favorite adult-contemporary artist. Her 2008 album “Fearless,” the best-selling release in the United States this year, was named favorite country album. She accepted her awards live via satellite from backstage at London’s Wembley Arena, where she will perform a concert on Monday. “Music has never been ultimately about competition,” Swift said, after winning the artist of the year prize. She said it was an “unimaginable honor” to be cited in the same category as Jackson, and thanked the Jackson family. Jackson was named favorite male artist in the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories, while his 2003 hits collection “Number Ones” was named favorite album in both those categories. The album is the No. 2 seller this year in the United States. His brother Jermaine, accompanied by sons Jeremy, Jaafar and Jermajesty, accepted on his behalf. At one point, he thanked Allah “for blessing my entire family.” Rapper Eminem, making a rare awards-show appearance in the wake of his four nominations, went home empty-handed. Glam-pop singer Lady Gaga, rock band Kings of Leon and jailed rapper T.I., who earned three nominations each, were also snubbed. The Black Eyed Peas were named favorite group in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories. Jay-Z won favorite male artist and favorite album in the rap/hip-hop categories. His wife Beyonce, who was performing a show in Dublin, was named favorite female artist in the soul/R&B category. Punk rock trio Green Day won the favorite alternative artist. Rascal Flatts won favorite country group for the fourth year in a row.

Crazy, right? Well, since the AMAs are handed out according to fan voting I guess it’s all Y’ALL’s fault that Taylor won so many awards. The girl must really be enjoying life right now … whether it’s deserved or not (many, many folks argue that it is not) she is really taking home some major awards this year. I say, congrats … I hope she really appreciates it all. After the jump, check out a few photos from the AMAs show itself and see what else went down on the Nokia Theater stage last night …

Classic Janet
Watch: Janet Jackson, ‘Make Me’

On Thursday we got our first look at Janet Jackson‘s Make Me music video, the single off her new greatest hits collection Number Ones, in a behind the scenes video from her video shoot. Today we get to see the final product, the Make Me music video in full:

This video is the PERFECT way to promote a disc of Janet‘s biggest hits … it is such a throwback to the classic Janet Jackson that we all know and love. The dance routine is very Janet and does hearken back to her hey day as a superstar … the setting even feels like an anteroom to the setting featured in her Scream music video with her late brother Michael Jackson. After the jump, check out the music video for Make Me in full …

ABC news takes us on set
Behind The Scenes Of Janet Jackson’s ‘Make Me’ Music Video Shoot

Back in August, with the relaunch of JanetJackson.com, we learned that Janet would be releasing a new greatest hits collection titled Number Ones which would include a new song titled Make Me. Today, courtesy of ABC News, we get our first look at the music video for Make Me in a new behind the scenes video shot on the music video set … here are a few screencaps:

Ahhh Janet … you’ve been away for far too long. It’s good to have you back. The song is just OK but I’m really excited that she will be releasing a new album of new material next year. I’m hoping this music video will be fun … from the looks of this video, it appears it will be a fun, great video (and, to be honest, the song is growing on me every time I hear it). After the jump, check out this behind the scenes video in full …

"He was the one that was administering, I think he is responsible."
Janet Jackson Believes Dr. Murray Is Responsible For MJ’s Death

Janet Jackson, who is currently promoting the release of her new greatest hits album Number Ones, sat down with ABC News for a new interview where in she talks about, among other things, the untimely death of her older brother Michael Jackson. According to Janet, MJ‘s personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray is to blame for his death and should be made to pay the price by losing the ability to practice medicine:

Speaking out five months after Michael Jackson’s death, Janet Jackson placed blame on Dr. Conrad Murray, saying the doctor should no longer be allowed to practice medicine. “He was the one that was administering,” she told ABC’s Robin Roberts. “I think he is responsible.” Michael Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, remains the focus of a manslaughter investigation into the pop star’s death. Murray has admitted to administering the anesthetic propofol, but has denied giving Michael anything that should have killed him. Jackson, who has walled herself in silence, fiercely guarding her private thoughts about the death of her beloved brother, Michael, opened up to Roberts in an exclusive interview that will air, Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 10 p.m. ET. “It’s been a tough year,” she said. “You have your days where it’s just really — it’s hard to believe. And a day doesn’t go by that I don’t think about him.” Jackson recounted the details of the morning of June 25, before she learned that Michael had collapsed, and her world turned upside down. “I was at my house in New York. You know, another day. Another morning. And I get a call … [my assistant] said, ‘Your brother’s been taken to the hospital. It’s on CNN right now,’” she told Roberts. “I called everyone’s. There’s a line busy or — someone wasn’t picking up. I spoke to mother. I spoke to Tito. I spoke to my nephew Austin. I spoke to my sister La Toya.” “I told them to call me when they got to the hospital. And I remember thinking nobody’s calling me back, so I tried calling again, and that’s how I found out that he was no longer … I couldn’t believe it,” she said. Jackson said the she and the entire family were in a state of disbelief. “It just didn’t ring true to me. It felt like a dream,” she said. “It’s still so difficult for me to believe. It’s, you know, you have to accept what is. But it’s hard. You have to move on with your life. You have to accept what is and I understand that.” For Jackson, Michael’s memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the late King of Pop was surrounded by love ones, helped her come to terms with her brother’s death. “My brother’s favorite song is ‘Smile.’ And I thought Jermaine sang it beautifully, beautifully. And that’s his favorite song as well. …There being some sort of a closure, I suppose, at that time,” she said, getting emotional. Janet, who has sold 100 million records and became a five-time Grammy award-winning artist, was the youngest of nine children in the brood. Growing up, she said that she was always closest to Michael. “We were incredibly close,” she said, “A lot of similarities, his love for children and me being a baby … We would practically do everything together from morning to night every day. Everyday.” She recalled how the two would play after school, feeding the animals together at the family’s Hayvenhurst compound in Encino, Calif. “We’d feed all the animals, took care of the babies. All the animals — giraffes, mouflon sheep, deer, they had fawned. All kinds of animals, all kinds of birds. And I remember I would come home from school with the hay like I’m going to a ranch,” she said. In later years, she famously wore the key to the animal cages in all her music videos — a memento from her youth. But Jackson does not look back on all of her childhood memories as fondly …

Janet‘s chat with Robin Roberts continues from here. After the jump, read Janet‘s not-so-fond memories of growing in the Jackson household and how her upbringing impacted her and her famous siblings …

Will open the 2009 American Music Awards
Janet Jackson Visits The Grove To Promote ‘Number Ones’

Janet Jackson paid a visit to the outdoor shopping center, The Grove, here in LA yesterday afternoon to do some promo work for the release of her new greatest hits collection entitled Number Ones (which we learned last month would collect together one one disc all of Janet‘s number one songs). Janet did not deign to actually press the flesh with her loyal fans, choosing instead to wave down below at them from a lofty precipice:

In other Janet news, it has been reported that she will open the 2009 American Music Awards at the end of this month with a performance medley of some of her biggest hits:

Janet Jackson is the latest singer who is confirmed to perform at the 37th Annual American Music Awards. She is set for the opening act of the event to be held on November 22 at NOKIA Theatre, singing a medley of her hit singles. Coincidently, she will release her greatest hits compilation “Number Ones” less than a week prior to the show. “We’re thrilled about having Janet Jackson open this year’s show,” said AMAs producer Larry Klein. “She is an incredibly dynamic performer and I think the audience will be excited to see what she has in store.” Other musical guests are Rihanna, Green Day, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady GaGa, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, DAUGHTRY and Adam Lambert. To be handed with a special International Artist Award, meanwhile, is Whitney Houston who will also make a live performance. She is going to deliver one of the singles in her comeback album “I Look to You”, “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength”, which is written by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster.

Wow … that is quite a line-up of musical acts! Altho I’ve not been too fond of Janet‘s most recent work, she does have a huge catalog of great hit songs to draw from for this performance … so I’m anxious to see how she will open the AMAs this year. But, to be honest, considering the line-up of confirmed performers … Janet is not the only performer I’m looking forward to seeing. This sounds like it’s going to be a great show … and it will all start with Janet, Miss Jackson if you’re nasty.

First Look: Janet Jackson, ‘Number Ones’

Last weekend we learned that Janet Jackson will be releasing a greatest hits collection, titled Number Ones, in November and today we get our first look at the album artwork. Amazon has been updated with the release info for the collection (you can see the tracklist HERE), including the album artwork:

Zzzzzzz. I understand the photo used for this album cover art was taken back in 2001 … and appeared in the tour book for Janet‘s All For You Tour. It’s like they aren’t even trying very hard to market this collection … I am not impressed. I am hearing that Miss Jackson will be releasing a new studio album of entirely new music in 2010, which is exciting, but this release just seems like a throw-away to me. If the folks behind this release don’t seem to care about promoting the disc, why should I care about buying it?
