Hugh Jackman Signs On For The Sequel To ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’

Jackie will star and co-produce
Friday, August 14th, 2009

It looks like Hugh Jackman will be growin’ back the mutton chops and will be rockin’ the Adamantium claws for another go ’round as Wolverine. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that a sequel to this year’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine is going to be made with Jackman acting as movie producer as well as lead star. The as-yet-untitled sequel film will be set in Japan and, one hopes, will be much better than the movie we saw earlier this year:

Christopher McQuarrie has signed on to write the script for Fox’s sequel to its “Wolverine” movie. Hugh Jackman is set to return as the Marvel Comics character, a mutant with healing powers and a skeleton laced with the indestructible metal known as adamantium. Jackman is also producing via his Fox-based Seed shingle along with Lauren Shuler Donner. The movie’s story line will take its cue from the early 1980s Chris Claremont/Frank Miller miniseries, which is set in Japan and features Wolverine dealing with ninjas as he struggles whether to follow his animal killer instincts or the life under a samurai’s code of honor and respect. The story line was hinted at in one of the movie’s codas after the credits. (The other teased a spinoff based on Deadpool, the character played by Ryan Reynolds.) The studio put a sequel in development after the movie, titled “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” carved up almost $180 million at the domestic boxoffice and $363 million worldwide. McQuarrie is not unfamiliar with the character. The scribe, who won an Oscar for writing “The Usual Suspects” for Bryan Singer, reteamed with the director to write 2000’s “X-Men.” Though McQuarrie could have received a credit, he voluntarily took his name off the movie when the final version was more in line with David Hayter’s script than his.

Thank Lord Jebus above … securing the guy who wrote the amazing film The Usual Suspects is quite a boon for a movie like this. That film was excellent, so chances are Wolverine 2 will be pretty good … or, at the very least, better than the movie that was released this year. I love Hugh Jackman as Wolverine … even if all the movies suck, he is still deffo worth seeing in theaters ;)

The 2009 Teen Choice Awards Are Handed Out

'Twilight' walks away with 11 surf boards
Monday, August 10th, 2009

Last night tweens of all ages convened at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City here in LA for the 2009 Teen Choice Awards. While the show doesn’t air on TV until tonight, the whole shebang was filmed last night. Britney Spears was on hand to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, the Ultimate Choice Award, from the Teen Choice folks but it was Twilight that cleaned up … taking home 11 surf board trophies. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets from last night’s affair:

“Twilight” struck a vein at the Teen Choice Awards. The adolescent vampire drama dominated Sunday’s ceremony with 11 wins, including choice movie drama, romance, liplock, rumble and soundtrack. Kristen Stewart won the movie drama actress category while Robert Pattinson picked up two surfboard-shaped trophies — one for movie drama actor, another for male hottie. “We’ll see you guys in theaters November 20th,” co-star Taylor Lautner teased the squealing crowd. Lautner and Ashley Greene, who will appear alongside Stewart and Pattinson in the upcoming “Twilight” sequel “New Moon,” were honored as the male and female movie fresh faces while Cam Gigandet was crowned movie villain. “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke joined the cast on stage to accept the adaptation’s pack of trophies. The Teen Choice Awards, which were selected by over 83 million votes cast online, honor celebrities in TV, film, music and sports. Several winners — including 16-year-old Miley Cyrus and show hosts the Jonas Brothers — took home multiple trophies at the 11th annual ceremony at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Gibson Amphitheatre. Cyrus sailed away with six awards, winning for comedy TV show and actress for “Hannah Montana;” music/dance movie actress and hissy fit for “Hannah Montana: The Movie;” music single for “The Climb” and summer song for “Before the Storm” with the Jonas Brothers. Cyrus also presented Britney Spears the ultimate choice award. “I’m a huge fans of hers,” Cyrus said before a subdued Spears accepted her own surfboard. The Jonas Brothers won five trophies, including choice male red carpet icons. They kicked off the show performing on a tiny stage that moved through the audience. Throughout the taped ceremony, the trio completed dares submitted by fans. At one point, younger brother Nick was challenged to hug a lineup of female fans. “It’s just hugs,” Joe cautioned the women. “You’re not going for long-term relationships here, girls.” Other big winners included “Gossip Girl” and Zac Efron. Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick picked up TV drama actor, actress, villain and TV series awards for the sudsy CW show while Efron won for music/dance movie actor in “High School Musical 3″ and comedy movie actor and rockstar moment in “17 Again.” The ceremony itself was peppered with several odd moments. Kathy Griffin arrived on the red carpet with Levi Johnston, the teenage ex-fiance of Bristol Palin, daughter of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. Mike Tyson took shears to Joe Jonas’ head as part of stunt. And before presenting the choice hottie awards, comedian Dane Cook pleaded to Vanessa Hudgens to keep her clothes on. The Teen Choice Awards is scheduled to air Monday at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.

LOL! Yes, it was Dane Cook’s shout-out to Vanessa Hudgens’s nekkid pics that was the TRUE highlight of the show … which you can watch HERE just in case FOX decides not to air the interaction on TV tonight. After the jump, check out pics from the show of some of the winners collecting their surf board awards and check out the FULL VERY LONG LIST of Teen Choice Award Winners …

Hugh Jackman Gets Shirtless In Brazil

Thank ye gods for this bounty
Friday, May 8th, 2009

Woot! It’s been quite some time since we’ve been able to feast our eyes on the shirtlessness of Hugh Jackman in public but at long last … the time has come once again. Hugh, who is back home with his family in NYC, spent some time this week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to do a bit of promo for his new movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Homie took a break from all of his hard work to enjoy the beautiful Brazilian sun … making our day a wee bit brighter as a result:

OY! This man is so hot it hurts! I am so happy that temps are finally warming up here in the US … hopefully the higher temperature will result in a lot more shirtlessness from our dear Hugh. MMMM. Keep it comin’, Hugh. Burn all of your shirts, please.

‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ Premieres In Tempe, AZ

The US Premiere
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Tempe, AZ became “Hollywood central” last night as the city played host to the US premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Hugh Jackman challenged all US cities to prove that they are deserving of hosting the premiere and Tempe narrowly beat out Davis, CA for the win. Hugh was joined by his Wolverine costars Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), will.i.am (John Wraith), Taylor Kitsch (Gambit) and more at last night’s premiere at Harkins Theatres in the Tempe Marketplace … here are a few photos:

Wolverine is a rage-fueled, cranky mutant who prefers to work alone; Hugh Jackman couldn’t possibly be more the opposite. On Monday, however, both could be found in Arizona riding a motorcycle into an action-packed “X-Men” moment. “I’ve played this character for about nine years; I love the character,” said Jackman, who arrived to the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” world premiere with great fanfare while riding a motorcycle into action, just like his claw-bearing mutant does in the flick. “[I] wanted to show the movie first to the most passionate X-Men and Wolverine fans, so we put a competition out online, and Tempe, Arizona, won. And I’ll tell you: These guys are passionate — they slept out two nights in a row [to get tickets]. Isn’t it the coolest thing?” To celebrate this weekend’s opening of “Origins,” Jackman devised a contest that had cities all across America creating Web sites and posting videos on YouTube. Tempe narrowly defeated Davis, California, and the festivities swept into a massive local shopping mall. A marching band kicked off the confetti-heavy event, the jovial mayor handed Jackman a placard that gave him lifetime parking privileges anywhere in the city, and a gaggle of giggling high school cheerleaders swarmed Ryan Reynolds for a photo. “This thing outranks every single friggin’ Hollywood or New York premiere they’ve ever had,” grinned Reynolds, moments before one of the cheerleaders could be heard bragging to her friends “I touched his butt!” “It’s a nice crowd. You jump into the crowds in L.A. and New York, and you’re liable to come out without a cell phone or a wallet. But here, they’re very sweet, they’re very kind … these people are amped.” While random celebrities such as Alice Cooper, Matt Leinart and recently ousted “American Idol” contestant Scott MacIntyre walked the lengthy red carpet, the film’s stars addressed concerns about enemies that had posed a last-minute threat to Wolverine’s spinoff film: The just-breaking news that the swine flu had canceled its Mexico City premiere and the much-publicized piracy of the flick. “This is a summer, go-to-the-movies joint,” explained Will.I.Am, who plays teleporting mutant John Wraith in the comic book flick. “The cats that saw it on the Internet know that’s not the way to see it. You need to sit in a big theater, get wrapped in the whole world, with the right sound, the right effects and the right environment. I don’t think the [leak to the] Internet is going to play a big role on how it performs.” Judging by the enthusiasm of the fans at the Tempe world premiere, Wolverine will slice through his new enemies just as easily as he has so many evil mutants over the years — and if the movie is a hit, Jackman promised there will be more Wolverine to come. “I’d like to do it; I love the character,” the actor said of possible sequels. “I think a lot will depend on what happens this weekend. We’ll see if people want to see the story.”

It sounds like Tempe, AZ made all of the celebs feel very welcome … congrats to them for winning the right to host the premiere. I think it would be really cool if other movie premieres took place in cities like this all around the country. I’m sure there are many fans all around the country that would jump at the chance to attend a big movie premiere like this. Why should NYC and LA get all the fun? I think everyone should have to right to enjoy some celeb lurve up close.
