Found guilty on 2 counts, not guilty on 7 counts
Howard K. Stern Convicted Of Illegally Conspiring To Provide Anna Nicole Smith With Drugs

Back in March of 2009 Howard K. Stern, lawyer/leech of the late Anna Nicole Smith, was arrested and charged (along with 2 of Smith‘s doctors) with conspiracy to provide Smith with drugs illegally by providing false names … yesterday, Stern was convicted of 2 of the 9 charges brought against him. As much as I would’ve loved for him to be convicted on all 9 charges, I’m at least satisfied that he was convicted at all:

Anna Nicole Smith’s boyfriend-lawyer Howard K. Stern and Dr. Khristine Eroshevich were found guilty Thursday on charges of conspiring to provide drugs using false names. Another defendant in the case, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, was acquitted on all counts against him. “This is really a victory not just for me, but it is a victory for patients everywhere in our nation who suffer chronic pain, and physicians who treat difficult chronic pain every day,” Kapoor said outside the courthouse. The jury failed to convict any of the defendants of providing drugs to a known addict, which was the linchpin of the prosecution’s case. Stern was acquitted on seven of the nine counts he faced. “These were all the counts related to whether the medications were for a legitimate medical purpose or for whether Anna Nicole was an addict,” Stern said. “What the jury did find me guilty of were two conspiracy counts limited exclusively to my name being used on medications for Anna. This was done to protect Anna Nicole’s privacy and it was nothing more than that.” The verdicts came in a complex case that included two months of testimony and 13 days of jury deliberations. Stern’s attorney, Steve Sadow, said after the trial that the conspiracy conviction for his client was for Stern having given his consent to Eroshevich to use Stern’s name on prescriptions intended for Smith. The charges against Eroshevich, a psychiatrist who flew to Smith’s side in the Bahamas after her son’s death in 2006, were related to using Stern’s name and another woman’s name to write prescriptions for Smith. Stern and the doctors were charged with conspiring to feed the reality TV star and Playboy model’s drug addiction, and using false names to obtain the drugs over the last three years of her life. The three defendants were not charged in Smith’s February 2007 death in a Florida hotel, which a medical examiner ruled was an accidental overdose of a sleep aid combined with the effects of a viral flu.

I will forever believe that Howard K. Stern had a hand in Anna Nicole Smith‘s death and these convictions prove that fact. Stern leeched off of Anna Nicole for as long as he had his disgusting meat hooks in her and profited wildly from her exploitation … to her dying day. As I understand it, Stern faces a maximum of 3 years in prison for these convictions … and will likely not serve nearly as long. While I personally believe the scumbag needs to rot in prison for the rest of his life, I’m comforted a bit by the mere fact that a jury saw fit to label him a felon and that he will face at least some punishment for his crimes. Anna Nicole Smith was no saint but she did not deserve to go out the way that she did. If not for the influence Stern had over her life and death, she might still be living today.

Instead, will be arraigned next month
Howard K. Stern Shows Up In Court, Does Not Offer A Plea

Last month we learned that Howard K. Stern had been arrested on charges that he and two doctors conspired to furnish drugs to the late Anna Nicole Smith before her death in 2007. Yesterday, Stern showed up in court NOT to enter a plea on the charges leveled against him but to petition the court to postpone his arraignment until next month (how very Chris Brown of him). Altho Stern had nothing to say inside the courthouse, his lawyer had much to say to the media outside on the courthouse steps:

A defense attorney used the courthouse steps Tuesday for a blistering attack against the California attorney general for bringing conspiracy charges against his client, Howard K. Stern, in the Anna Nicole Smith case. Stern, Smith’s longtime partner and attorney, appeared before a judge Tuesday on charges of conspiring with two doctors to provide drugs to Smith before her fatal overdose in 2007. He did not enter a plea but agreed to an arraignment date next month. Declaring Stern “innocent of baseless charges,” attorney Steve Sadow said after the short hearing that “no one enabled Anna.” “Anna made her own choices and decisions,” Sadow said. “No one told her what to do and when to do it.” California Attorney General Jerry Brown responded that Sadow’s “rhetoric is just smoke and mirrors, and is completely out of line.” “The fact is that the Bureau of Narcotics, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the State Board of Medical Examiners and the Los Angeles district attorney have all validated this prosecution,” Brown said in a statement to CNN. “These people are whistling in the dark if they think this accusatory rhetoric is going to save them.” Stern, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich and Dr. Sandeep Kapoor were charged last month in California with several felonies, including conspiring to furnish controlled substances, unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance and obtaining fraudulent prescriptions from June 2004 through January 2007, only weeks before Smith’s death. Smith, 39, was pronounced dead February 8, 2007, after being discovered unconscious in her room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino near Hollywood, Florida. A coroner said she died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. In announcing the charges last month, Brown said the doctors and Stern devised a plan to use fake names so Smith could be prescribed “thousands of pills.” The former Playboy playmate and reality TV star was drugged “almost to the point of stupefaction,” Brown said … Sadow said Stern relied on the “good judgment” of Smith’s doctors to prescribe drugs for “valid and legitimate medical reasons.” “Howard loved Anna with all of his heart and would never have done anything intentional to harm her,” Sadow said. Officials said that both prescription and over-the-counter drugs were found in Smith’s system, including three antidepressant or anti-anxiety drugs. Human growth hormone and chloral hydrate, a sleep medication, also were found in toxicology tests, officials said. Kapoor and Eroshevich also were charged with obtaining a prescription for opiates by “fraud, deceit or misrepresentation.” And each was charged with one count of obtaining a prescription for opiates by giving a false name or address, prosecutors said. Eroshevich, who was also in court, did not enter a plea … Kapoor was not in court, and his attorney did not speak. The case for all three defendants was set for another hearing May 13.

It is my personal belief that Anna Nicole Smith was drugged at pretty much all times … anyone who remembers what she was like EVERY SINGLE TIME she ever spoke — whether it be on her E! TV series or when she posted videos online or when she walked outside her front door — will prolly remember that she often had difficulty even speaking coherent sentences. To be honest, I was shocked that she managed to give birth to little Dannielynn Hope Marshall Birkhead without incident. There is no way that a woman that heavily drugged could be able to procure all of the medication she needed to stay, as Brown contends, “stupefied”. I never trusted Howard K. Stern in terms of his relationship with Anna Nicole. He entered her life when she began fighting for the billions of dollars that her 89+ year old tycoon husband J. Howard Marshall (of 10 minutes) left her in his will and he stayed with her to the bitter end, IMHO, hoping to enjoy a big pay off one day. The notion that he “loved” and “cared” for Anna Nicole Smith is laughable to me … but, these are just my opinions. Sadly, I didn’t bat an eyelash when it was reported that drugs were involved at all in Anna Nicole‘s death … nor did I flinch when I learned that Howard K. Stern was with her. I sincerely hope the truth comes out and that the guilty parties are made to pay for their crimes. Karma has a funny way of working itself out.

Anna Nicole Smith's former lawyer and doctors arrested on drug charges
Howard K. Stern Busted!

California Attorney General Jerry Brown has indicted the late Anna Nicole Smith‘s former lawyer and longtime partner Howard K. Stern, along with two of her former doctors, on charges that they illegally devised a plan to use fake names in order to obtain “thousands” of prescription pills for her before her death. Upon hearing of the indictments against them, Stern and one of the doctors voluntarily turned themselves in to police last night and were immediately arrested and booked on charges. Another doctor who is facing the same charges is reportedly expected to turn himself into police on Monday. Here is Stern‘s mugshot:

Anna Nicole Smith’s longtime partner and attorney, Howard K. Stern, and a doctor were jailed Thursday on charges of conspiring to furnish drugs before her death in 2007, authorities said. Another doctor facing charges was expected to turn herself in Monday, authorities said. The doctors and Stern devised a plan to use fake names so that Smith could be prescribed “thousands of pills,” California Attorney General Jerry Brown said. “She was obviously addicted,” Brown said. “These doctors had a medical obligation to prescribe medicine in a professional way. Evidence will show this did not happen.” Smith, 39, was pronounced dead February 8 after being found unconscious in her hotel room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino near Hollywood, Florida. The former Playboy playmate and reality TV star died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. At the time of her death, several prescription medications — both in Smith’s and Stern’s names — were found in the room. Officials said prescription and over-the-counter drugs were found in Smith’s system, including three antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs. Also found in toxicology testing was human growth hormone and chloral hydrate, a sleep medication, officials said. Stern, 40, and doctors Sandeep Kapoor, 40, and Khristine Eroshevich, 61, were each charged with eight felonies, including conspiring to furnish controlled substances, unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance and obtaining fraudulent prescriptions from June 2004 to January 2007 — only weeks before the playmate’s death. Kapoor and Eroshevich were each also charged with obtaining a prescription for opiates by “fraud, deceit or misrepresentation.” Each was also charged with one count of obtaining a prescription for opiates by giving a false name or address, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. Stern and Kapoor were arrested Thursday, Brown said. They were being held in lieu of a $20,000 bail. Eroshevich was to turn herself in Monday, Brown said. Smith was buried in the Bahamas on March 2 next to the grave of her son, Daniel, who died in September, days after the birth of her daughter, Dannielynn.

I have always contended that Howard K. Stern is a crook. From the first moment he weaseled his way into Anna Nicole‘s life and basically took control of her affairs (when she was suing the family of her late husband, oil business executive and billionaire J. Howard Marshall for her share of his estate in the mid 90′s) I knew that he was a shady character. When it was reported that Anna Nicole Smith had overdosed on drugs (not long after her son fatally overdosed on drugs) resulting in her death, I had a feeling that something like this would eventually come to light. As you may recall, TMZ reported that a refrigerator full of liquid methadone and Slim Fast was found in the room where her dead body was discovered … and Howard K. Stern‘s name was found on some of the prescription bottle labels — pretty damning evidence. None of this surprises me in the least. I think I’m most surprised that it took 2 years for these charges to be leveled against Stern and these crooked doctors. I am a stern believer in karma and I honestly believe it is time for Howard K. Stern to pay. May justice be served and may Stern get locked away for a very, very long time.
