There is a new J. Pierrepont Finch on Broadway these days … and his name is Nick Jonas. As you may recall, we said goodbye to Daniel Radcliffe as the lead of the Broadway show How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying … and then we said hello to his replacement Darren Criss. Criss was only able to perform the lead role for 3 weeks before he had to be back in LA to go back to work on Glee … so Nick Jonas has stepped in as the new, semi-permanent lead. On January 1, actor Daniel Radcliffe gave his last performance in the role of J. Pierrepont Finch in the Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and last night, on January 3, Glee actor Darren Criss took over the role. Criss will play the How to Succeed lead for the next 3 weeks while he takes a break from his Glee duties. Entertainment Weekly magazine is reporting that Glee star Darren Criss, who was just upgraded to series regular on Glee, is being considered for a 3-week stint on Broadway as the lead in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. As you may know, Daniel Radcliffe is the current lead star in that show but for 3 weeks early next year, he will be taking a short vacay … and if things work out, Darren Criss will fill his spot in the show. Is this not, like, the best casting ever?

There was a death on Broadway last night and you might be surprised to learn that it did not happen at accident-prone Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. A stagehand reportedly succumbed to a drug overdose in a bathroom at the Al Hirschfeld Theater right before last night’s performance of the Daniel Radcliffe musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The start of the show was postponed a few times before Radcliffe and co-star John Laroquette came on stage to announce the cancelation of last night’s performance. It was only after the theater was cleared that it was revealed that the stagehand death was the cause of the cancelation.

Broadway star Daniel Radcliffe was surprised this week by his Harry Potter co-star and BFF Emma Watson backstage in his dressing room after a performance of his new musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Yesterday afternoon, David and I made our way to the Al Hirschfeld Theater on Broadway to attend the matinee performance of the new revival musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. As you may know, this new production of the show stars Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe (who previously made his Broadway debut in the play Equus back in 2008). Ever since the show opened late last month, I’ve been anxiously awaiting my chance to see the show and yesterday was the day. Not only was it a full-blown show-tunes funfest but Radcliffe‘s exuberant excitement made the show an absolute delight to watch!

Late last month we got our first look at actor Daniel Radcliffe in rehearsals for his first ever Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and then a few days later we got to see photos of DanRad on the night the show opened in previews. Today we get to see photos of Dan and some of the cast during the curtain call for the show’s official opening night this weekend! Last week we saw photos of Daniel Radcliffe rehearsing for his return to the Broadway stage in the revival musical of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and today we learn that his show successfully opened in previews this weekend! DanRad‘s first preview performance was last night at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre and he happily hung out after the show to sign a few autographs for this throng of admiring fans.

Last weekend we saw photos and video from Daniel Radcliffe‘s appearance in the new issue of Vogue magazine, which highlights his return to the Broadway stage. Today we get to see a couple of behind the scenes photos from rehearsals where DanRad is prepping for his leading role in the new revival production of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. For this role, Dan has to sing and dance … something that is new for him … but, I understand, something he’s been able to master swimmingly.

Great news for fans of Daniel Radcliffe … the young British actor who took both the West End stage and the Broadway stage by storm with his powerful performance in Equus has just signed on for a new Broadway production. This time, DanRad will be performing in musical theater in a revival of the classic show How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is heading to Broadway for his first musical. The 20-year-old actor has been announced as the lead for How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. Radcliffe is already used to the pressures of nightly Broadway and West End appearances, having wowed critics in Equus last year. He will play the plum part of J. Pierrepont Finch, a window cleaner who rises to the top of a huge company while, of course, wooing and winning a girl along the way. Robert Morse created the role on Broadway and in the 1967 screen adaptation. The original production, running for a healthy 1,417 performances, won the top Tony for best musical in 1962 as well as six more, including awards for lead Morse and supporting player Charles Nelson Reilly. And the 1995 saw Matthew Broderick win the lead actor Tony. Radcliffe is currently filming the final instalments of the Harry Potter movies, Deathly Hallows, which will be released in two parts.

This is FANTASTIC news!! I suspect that this is but the beginning of a long and storied carrer on the stage. I was lucky enough to see Radcliffe in Equus and was stunned by his performance. I have no doubt that he will be just as superb in this new role in How to Succeed. I have been nothing but impressed with every acting performance I’ve seen from the lad and I have been wondering what his future career in acting holds for him. I suspect he will make a great name for himself on the musical theater stage. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he gave up films altogether and stuck with plays and musicals. Time will tell what other projects DanRad will take on but I, for one, am very excited about the prospect of seeing Daniel Radcliffe on the Broadway stage again.
