Who has the POWERRRRRRRRR!?
Who Will Play He-Man In The Upcoming New Movie?

As you may have noticed from THIS post and THIS post, I’ve been in on a real He-Man and the Masters of the Universe kick lately. You can imagine my happy surprise to learn that Hollywood is looking for the right muscled man to play He-Man in an upcoming new film based on the classic 80′s cartoon superhero. The film project has a director in place, the next big slot to fill is the role of He-Man himself. People magazine lists their picks on who could play the most powerful man in the universe … read on:

WANTED: The most powerful man in the universe. Should be muscular. Blond hair a plus. Needs to be skilled in the Secrets of Grayskull and immune to evil forces of Skeletor. Long hours, good pay. Some near-nudity required. That, at least, is how one might imagine the casting call for the role of He-Man in the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie, based on the successful Mattel toy line – launched in 1982 – and already the inspiration for the 1987 feature Masters of the Universe, which starred a muscular, blond and nearly naked Dolph Lundgren as Eternia’s greatest warrior and Skeletor’s archenemy. The proposed 2011 version is to be directed by John Stevenson, who co-directed Kung-Fu Panda and whose credits also include the Shrek movies. But still up for grabs: the leading role of He-Man. This is where you come in. Imagine yourself the casting director, in search of the ultimate action hero. From these four box-office-worthy hunks, whom would you pick to fill He-Man’s furry briefs?

After the jump, see a photo that will remind you of what Lundgren looked like when he played He-man in 1987, read the list of People magazine’s candidates for the role of He-Man and see who I think would be a great unknown actor to play the part …

I Don’t Wanna Grow Up . . .

No big news on the personal front. Things have been nice and quiet around these here parts. I did pick up an amazing 1Tb external harddrive (which is about the size of a wallet and cost a fraction of what I paid for my 500Gb external hard drive a few years ago) and started backing up files off my computer. To be honest that was the excitement of my day yesterday … until a delivery that I had been expecting arrived late yesterday afternoon:

I know, I know … it’s really geeky and a bit weird that I still have a thing for toys from my youth but I can’t help it! I am such a child of the 80′s that I still have a huge fondness for all things 80′s (and, as you may recall, I just recently purchased two art pieces based on He-man and the Masters of the Universe). These He-Man and Skeletor figures are new versions of the original action figures and they look great on my desk. Now, should I ever need to spring into action, hold aloft my magic sword in order to save the day …

… I’ll have the inspiration to keep me on task! Look, sometimes you gotta make your own fun. I’m fairly certain that all y’all have a huge soft spot for things like this from your childhood that you like to hold on to. I cannot even TELL you how much I loved my He-Man Power Sword when I was little. Sigh … do kids these days even like toys anymore? Now that the world is enamored of iPhones, Nintendo DS and the Internet, I wonder what kids like to play with when they actually play with other kids. Sad.

Tonight I shant be playing with myself (that sounds bad, sorry) cuz I’ll be meeting up with my friend Devin who has made his way from Austin, TX to SoCal! I haven’t seen him since last year so it’ll be nice to catch up.

‘I Have The Powwwwwwwer!’

Nothing very exciting to report on the personal front … I spent all of yesterday ensconced inside my apartment doing everything but cleaning up the mess I’ve made over the past week. I managed to “tidy” things up a bit but, meh, I just didn’t want to deal. I opted out of going out and instead decided to start watching He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Season One on DVD:

I’ve had the entire He-Man series on DVD for months but haven’t gotten around to watching them. I was a big fan of the series when I was little and watching the eps brought back a lot of fond memories. I distinctly remember when the show aired on TV in the early ’80′s … I would make it a point to be home promptly after school so that I could watch He-Man, Thundercats, G.I. Joe and other cartoons. I think it’s a bit sad that kids these days don’t have the same sorts of cartoon programming to watch. Kids TV these days is focused more on live-action programming (Hannah Montana, iCarly, etc.). The same goes for the toys … kids these days don’t necessarily want action figures, they’re all about iPods and cell phones. HMMM, I’m starting to sound like an old person ;) I must admit, I really cherish my fond childhood memories and watching these DVDs last night (and this morning) was a nice treat.

This afternoon, I need to get my butt down to Anaheim so partake of Gay Days at Disneyland. My friends Michael, Darion and Loy are prolly there already … we’re staying the night in Anaheim so that we can get in some Disney fun tomorrow as well. Should be fun :)
