Scarlett Johansson was “apprehensive” about doing charity work in Africa. The 25-year-old actress was nervous when she recently travelled to Rwanda to support several women’s charities – which help improve the lives of females in the poverty-hit region – because she had been warned she might be disturbed by what she saw. She said: “I had a bit of apprehension walking into the first hospital. But I soon realised you’re standing before people. They might be very ill but they’re just people like everyone else. Suddenly you’re not aware of how you’re feeling, how you’re going to look. If you let your guard down and stop being aware of yourself, you’re able to really connect with people.” During her work with charity Red, the blonde beauty was amazed by how positive the women she visited were and how strong their bond was with each other. She told Harper’s Bazaar magazine : “I’ve always found women have power in numbers. We draw strength from the support of other women.” The curvaceous actress has since posed in sexy animal-print outfits for a photo shoot in Harper’s Bazaar magazine to raise awareness of the cause.

I love this idea of coupling a magazine coverstory with spreading awareness of ScarJo’s charity work … it’s a great way to get the message out to more people, without them even realizing it. More On the strength of women:
“I’ve always found that women have power in numbers. We draw strength from the support of other women. In some cultures, girls can be seen as a burden to a family because of the need to pay out a dowry when they marry, and they are vulnerable to all kinds of abuse. When I visited shelters for female victims of violence in India, I found that a lot of the women had been raped, even at home. That’s still very taboo. Even in the United States, it’s hard to talk about being sexually abused by your husband or your boyfriend. So being able to find solace in support groups makes a huge difference.”

On her newfound appreciation of the simple things:
“You do gain a certain perspective when you see how people get by with so little and how they’re just happy to have simple things like a well with clean water nearby. I felt lucky just to live somewhere that has running water. Suddenly a toilet seems such a luxury. It’s miraculous! You really are thankful for the small things.”

Not only does Scarlett look beautiful on the outside but it’s clear that she is amazingly beautiful on the inside, as well. When you take into consideration all her hard, on-going work for the people of Africa it’s kinda hard to hate her for being married to Ryan Reynolds ;) I keed, I keed … in all honesty, this Harper’s piece is a real tour de force … not only is it stylish but it conveys a very important message. Rob Pattinson’s and Kristen Stewart’s rooms sit side by side on the thirtysomethingth floor of the Sheraton hotel in Vancouver (“the Couve,” as Kristen calls it), where they are filming Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight saga. They spend a lot of time in their rooms in the sky — two Rapunzels of sorts entertaining themselves behind closed doors — because it’s really, really hard to go out. “There are like 15 different exits in this place,” observes Kristen of the tactics she and the rest of the Twilight cast use to avoid the paparazzi. She adds, “Rob is more frustrated with it, but he’s 23 and I’m 19. He had a couple more years to be an adult and to be independent, whereas just as I was getting to the age when it’s normal to go out by yourself …” She pauses. “But it’s boring because this is all I fucking talk about.” Rob talks about it too. “Do you mind if we sit outside?” he asks as he stands in his hotel room, looking longingly out the window. “I need some air.” It’s a cold, gray day, but who is to deny him some freedom? (And chivalry is not dead, girls. A young man will still lend you his jacket. Maybe because he is British.) Rob doesn’t just face paparazzi, he gets clawing, shrieking girls too. New Yorkers may remember he was clipped by a cab while fleeing from the ladies on the set of Remember Me this past summer. “But at least that’s an experience, something new,” he says. “If it’s just screaming — and I know this sounds so ridiculous — that gets old. But sometimes when there’s literal chaos, it’s like being in a war zone, and that’s kind of exciting. You’re just running through the crowd of people chasing after you and no one knows what’s going on” … At the moment, there is only one thing anyone cares about regarding these two, who, as Twilight’s Bella and Edward, manifest all of our vampiric romance fetishes: Are they dating or what? Well … it’s clear that Rob and Kristen are close — very close. Okay, who is the most romantic then? “I have a no-bullshit detector,” says Kristen, “so I’d have to say Rob is. I think romance is anything honest. As long as it’s honest, it’s so disarming.” Rob chuckles when asked the same question. “Um, I don’t know. What did Kristen say?” You. “No. I’m better at faking.” This is followed by a very long laugh … Of the two, it seems Kristen wears the pants. (While she will admit to one girlish thing, a love of Chanel, her dream outfit is a custom Brooks Brothers suit.) When she ventures into a dress, it might just be covered in metal, like the Rock & Republic mini she wore to the Teen Choice Awards earlier this year. “Everyone was like, ‘Look at your spiky skirt!’” she says with a grin, “and I was like, ‘Spiky skirt? They were bullets, mofo!’” She gets some stick in the media for not suffering fools. “People think I’m trying to be rebellious, but that’s the last thing I’m doing,” she says. “But I would hate myself if I tried to satisfy the people who have a problem with the way I speak about myself, so it’s okay.” “Kristen doesn’t take any slack,” Rob says. “She sticks to her guns — and that’s difficult to do.” He also thinks she’s a better actor than he is. “I don’t really know how to act. I’m kind of guessing everything. … Even though I can conceptualize stuff, she can actually do it. I can make something so complex and then be like, That was pout 27.” He reckons she’s a better judge of character too. “She’ll decide on someone a lot quicker. She has a lot more self-esteem than I do, so she’s like, ‘You’re an idiot and I don’t want to talk to you,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m an idiot too!’ So I’ll talk to an idiot for like three days before deciding.”

Altho the photos have a bit of a Harlequin Romance feel to them, I think they’re very pretty … and a nice change of pace. It’s great seeing Kristen Stewart all glammed up in couture. I love her with the long hair. While we don’t get a lot of new information from this interview, I like the style of asking the pair of them to answer the same questions about one another … it’s a cute way to ask the same banal questions. I understand there are more of these romantic photos in this issue of Harper’s Bazaar mag, if you want to see and read more you’re gonna have to pick it up when the issue hits newsstands on November 17. On her hair: “When I am not shooting, my hair looks like a Halloween wig.” She lapses into an impersonation of a hair stylist: “‘I hate to tell you this, but it’s because you are shooting all the time. You know those old actresses that are bald?’ And I shoot 200 days a year.”

Dude, Tina Fey is the coolest woman EVER!! I’m so happy that her show 30 Rock is doing so well critically because it deffo doesn’t have the ratings to ensure its survival. I’ve always been an Tina Fey fan but I think the whole world fell in love with her when she stepped into the persona of Sarah Palin during the ‘08 presidential campaign. She really strikes me as such a down-to-Earth person … I bet she’s very easy to like in real life, too. And hello … she is a beautiful woman! Janet Jackson hasn’t watched television since her brother Michael died suddenly in Los Angeles on June 25. She has blocked herself off completely from the hysterical media coverage of his death — who did it, what did it. “It will drive you crazy,” she says. “People can have rhinoceros skin, but there’s a point when something’s going to hurt you. Not everyone is stone, stone. I haven’t watched the news in weeks. I had to ask my chef, How’s Obama doing? I haven’t read a newspaper. On top of that, [we've lost] a family member.” The last time Janet saw Michael was on May 14, two days before her 43rd birthday. It was a family celebration, the Jackson kids were running around, and she and her big brother hung out, ate Thai food, and tormented each other. “We had so much fun that day,” she says, her soft voice almost inaudible. “We kept calling each other after and saying how great it was.” Janet left soon after to start work on Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too. She was on set in Atlanta when she got the call that Michael had died. She immediately returned to L.A., plunging headlong into a private family grief served up to a ravenous public. Of course, one of the most moving images from the memorial service was of Michael’s daughter, Paris, who stepped up to the microphone and said, “Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine” before grabbing her aunt Janet for support. “I was really proud,” Janet recalls. “People said to me that Michael’s daughter speaking really gave them a sense of how he was as a father, in her words. Paris is incredibly smart; they are all so smart. She’s a sweet girl. The kids are doing well. They’re with all their cousins; that family love will keep them going.” After the service, Janet and sisters La Toya and Rebbie went to speak to the fans. Janet, who said a brief and quiet thank-you, was greeted with thunderous applause. “I don’t remember that at all,” she says. “I really didn’t want to say anything. I left that night to go back to Atlanta to film.”

It’s no secret that Janet and Michael were very, very close so I can only imagine how difficult his death has been for her. I imagine the ensuing media frenzy that erupted in the wake of MJ’s untimely and shocking death has made it difficult for her to grieve in private so it makes sense that she would want to plunge headlong into work to keep her head on straight. Work has always been a tonic for Janet. Today she is sitting in a bunkerlike recording studio in Hollywood, writing songs for a new album, due out next spring. Nickelodeon is on the TV (perhaps the only network not doing Michael 24/7), incense is burning, and she is trying to discourage her French bulldog, Bullwinkle, a birthday gift from brother Jermaine, from nibbling at her towering Azzedine Alaïa lizard sandals. “I’ve been doing okay,” she says. “Work helps focus all of that energy on something that is of value to you.” She’s just back from vacation, a princely three days on a beach. “It was the first time I had to myself since Michael passed, the first time I could get away since all of that.” Janet doesn’t like talking much, so it’s not hard to understand why people applaud when she opens her mouth. While she is the baby of the Jackson family, she is, in many ways, its nexus. “I have no clue why,” she says, “but maybe sometimes when there’s someone you don’t hear from, it’s the person you want to hear from the most.” She’s learned a lot in these past weeks. “I always wanted to have my mother’s [Katherine Jackson] strength, but I didn’t know if it was really there. But a few years back, something happened and I learned that I did.” She fixes you with a keen gaze. “I’m not going to mention it, but we all know what it is. And now, coming off all this, it’s even beyond that. I was just focused on my job at that moment within my family.” She pauses. “Now at least I know that I can step up to the plate and not crumble when I’m needed. When it comes to something like this that is so, so serious, so painful, so traumatic, I can handle it” … She lights up when she talks about Michael’s style. “My brother is, I mean was…” She shifts on the couch and stares at the floor. “You have to forgive me, because it’s really hard to believe he’s passed. He’d have the same red shirt, the same black pants, the same white T-shirt. Mike was very simple. When I was 14 years old, I would shop for him. [Michael was then 21 and a megastar.] I washed his clothes, cleaned his room. When Mother would go out of town, she’d say, ‘I’m leaving you in charge. Take care of Mike.’ I would head home from school, see what he needed, then go straight to the stores.” She giggles a little and says, “You know something else? He loved to wear his shoes all the way down. His penny loafers would have huge holes in the bottom.” One thing Michael did prize, of course, was his single white glove. “That was actually my brother Jackie’s idea at home one day,” Janet explains. “He just said, ‘You should wear one glove. A white glove.’ And then Mike studded it all. That was it.” Did he wear the glove to Jackson family dinners? She laughs. “Nooo.” And yes, Janet has moonwalked. “Uh-huh. No, no one does it like he does, though. Everybody else tried, but it was no good.” On stage, she adds, “if it was shiny, if it had any kind of bling, he loved it. It was that drummer-boy look. Do you remember that black jacket he wore for Motown’s 25th anniversary? That’s our mother’s! He grabbed that from her closet! He loved anything that sparkled.” Michael’s love of all that glittered continued until his death. That last day Janet saw Michael, “he had a Balmain jacket on. He had a few of them — all black, jeweled, studded, with rhinestones.” While the public obsesses over what will happen to Michael’s estate, including his famous jackets, Janet is not interested in wearing them herself. “No,” she says emphatically. “They should go to the children, if anything” … There are other things Janet would like the world to know about Michael. “He loved to laugh. The last time we were together, he’d laugh so hard, he would just start crying. Sometimes his humor would be corny, sometimes dry. He loved the Three Stooges, he loved slapstick, he loved Eddie Murphy in his silly comedies. He loved to have fun. He loved to play.” If Janet had one more day with her brother (whose nickname for her, incidentally, was Dunk), she would “relive that moment we had when we were kids, do our little run: We’d wake up, feed the animals, spend the entire day together.” She smiles at the memory, and Janet’s smile is magnificent. “People have actually said that I should get it insured, but I never liked my smile until about six or seven years ago. I thought it was too wide, that it looked like the Joker! So sometimes I wouldn’t smile too wide and would just kind of grin” … If Michael is the King of Pop, Janet is its princess. “I would hope my legacy would be bringing smiles to faces,” she says. “Happiness with my music. Also, to make babies. I’ve had so many people come up to me and say, ‘My child was conceived by listening to your music.’” She has more difficulty articulating Michael’s. “It’s so beyond. I can’t even begin. It’s on so many different levels. Bringing light and love and happiness. He’s just got so much love, and so much heart, and so much power through his music. Children and his love for children. People have told me, ‘I am an American citizen because of your brother.’ He wrote them a letter or something. He was just that giving, loving person. And the greatest entertainer there ever was. And is. I hope people get a glimpse of him now, some sort of picture.”

Leighton Meester understands that being on a buzzed-about show automatically puts her in the spotlight – but she doesn’t have to like it. “I don’t want most of what comes along with all of this,” says the Gossip Girl star in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar, on newsstands Aug. 18. One particular downside of fame is a rumored sex tape of the star with an ex-boyfriend that has allegedly been shopped around. “[The tape] is not real, so it makes me sort of sad,” says the actress. “It’s unfortunate that it got carried as far as it did.” Meester says the rumor has taught her some lessons about life. “I definitely understand the nature of people better now and that the mere allegation of something like that could be headline news. People think it’s real because somebody says it is.” But the star has friends who watch out for her. “I feel like my friends are in a cult because we’re like, ‘No outsiders!’ ” she says. “I’ve never been crazy. I’m a very good girl, to be honest. I don’t do anything to hurt anybody. Honestly, all I ever do is work.” At work, costar Ed Westwick is one person who can vouch for Meester’s sweetness – and her natural good looks. “The first thing I thought when I met Leighton was … hell, this girl’s gorgeous. And she was incredibly sweet.”

I’m confused … how exactly is the explicit tape “not real”? If she means that it was prolly not filmed for public viewing then she’s most likely correct but to say that the sex tape she made with her then boyfriend is “not real” isn’t really accurate. Whatever the case may be, Leighton strikes me as the kind of woman who learns from her mistakes and I highly doubt she’ll ever get messed up in a sex tape scandal like this again (unlike, say, Vanessa Hudgens, who clearly didn’t learn her lesson the first time nekkid pics of her made their way to the Internets). Because the image that greets you — by the pristine pool, past the vegetable garden, and under a blazing blue sky — could be detrimental to one’s self image. Halle Berry is a beautiful woman both inside and out … it’s hard not to like her. She really does come across as a likable person, who is both talented and savvy. I still don’t get why she’s is so uninterested in marrying her hot man Gabriel Aubry but she appears to be loving her life and living it to the fullest. You have to respect that. Now that Scarlett Johansson is married, are kids next? Probably not. “I’m not pregnant, and I’m not going to be anytime soon,” The Spirit star, 24, tells February’s Harper’s Bazaar. She says she gets a kick out of baby rumors. “I got these calls that I was engaged way before it happened. I’ve also been pregnant several times,” she says. “With, like, sextuplets. That must mean I’ve been eating way too many bagels or something.” Johansson also opens up about her engagement to actor Ryan Reynolds, whom she wed last September. “I wasn’t surprised that it was happening, but anyone being presented with a beautiful diamond ring, as a girl, you just squeal with delight,” she says. “You say you can’t believe it, but of course, you really can.” Despite getting hitched, she says has no plans to put her career on hold. “Every actor wants to work on a Western,” she says of her dream role. “I would run a brothel, like a madam or something. I’m working with what I got. It’s only so long that people are going to want to see me in a corset. So I might as well do it now.”

Man, kids born of the spunk of Ryan Reynolds would be hella cute … I can’t even imagine. I would love for the hawt Canuck to start making babies but I don’t think I mind that the couple are planning to wait a while before they get started on procreating. All in due time, I suppose. Scarlett really does look great in that red dress … er, the flowy one. I love the dramatic nature of the shoot. I’m not sure I love the dress that she’s wearing on the cover, tho … something about the sequins turns me off. Image is so important to Victoria Beckham that she has it down to a science. As for her lab, “It’s funny,” she tells January’s Harper’s Bazaar, on sale Dec. 16, “I go to the gym now.” Once there, “I run four miles a day,” says the “very disciplined” mom of three boys: Brooklyn, 9; Romeo, 6; and Cruz, 3. Then, “I go into hair and makeup, and I turn into ‘Victoria Beckham.’ ” As for what that entails, “I’ll try on all my dresses, and I’ll pick out a handbag, and I’ll put on the shades. I instantly turn into this person, and it sort of feels like a character. And there are so many pictures of it … But it’s a true character because it’s still me.” Most pictures parade her patented pout – dubbed her “Blue Steel” look – though she admits to lightening up: “I have started smiling … I’ve mastered this smirk; it’s a smile that isn’t a smile.” But what hasn’t disappeared are her trademark high heels, though some have deemed them as impractical. “Oh, c’mon,” she insists, “they’re not that hard to walk in … They’re not uncomfortable! [But] you have to go to a sex shop to get this spray to polish them.” As for how she dresses when the paparazzi are not following her, Beckham, 34, says, “I run around the house in a tracksuit sometimes.” Outside the house – where she likes to take walks with her family – is another matter. “If I go to the supermarket looking like shit, that affects my work. I am selling an image. Plus, I have fun with it,” she says. “I tell you, the paparazzi would not be sitting outside if they realized I was the most boring person in Hollywood.”

LOL! Even tho I give the robotic-looking little sprite a bit of a hard time (all the time), I really do love her. VB is really fab and I don’t always make that very clear. Srsly … the “smile that isn’t a smile”?? Brills! Hahahaha! I love how she talks about going “to the supermarket” as if it were an everyday occurrence. That woman has NO NEED to ever set foot inside of a supermarket, period. Overall … the photospread is very nice. I like the manwear and the pretty dress with the flowers on it … but the pic with the clear plastic furniture looks really tacky. It’s a Saturday night in early October and Lindsay Lohan is sitting at the Chateau Marmont drinking a Shirley Temple. She is such a regular at the hotel that no one gives a second look when she comes racing in with a friend. Lindsay is wearing a black dress over a pair of her now-signature leggings, Yves Saint Laurent boots, several bracelets, two diamond rings on her right hand, and an open black Michael Jackson-like glove on her left. She looks a little more glamorous than usual — “The hostess said, ‘It’s so nice to see you dressed up,’” she says — and the faintly ironic beverage reveals that she’s no longer living la vida Lohan. The message is clear: Lindsay has actually started growing up. After close to five months in rehab in 2007, Lindsay, 22, is embracing maturity and recognizing she must take responsibility for her actions. “I was going to clubs all the time, and it was not okay. I was so alone. It made me not focus on what I was doing,” she says now. Of her life pre-Cirque Lodge and Promises, she observes, “I was living here [at the Chateau] for almost two years. Who blows that much money on a hotel?” She waves her arm around and says, “I could have bought a house!” But Lindsay admits candidly, “I did it to myself, and I have to deal with the consequences. I’m thankful for what I can take out of it. Now I feel clear. That’s my past, and I’m a different person now. I have goals and I’m working to achieve them. I’m not hanging out with people who are out every night getting fucked up. “And,” she adds sheepishly with a smile, “I think that I’m happy.” Her friend Jaime Zeluck, who works in the music business and has been silently checking her PDA, chimes in, “You’re the best I’ve seen you in a while.” Truth be told, the Lindsay Lohan we know and love hasn’t quite disappeared. She arrives more than an hour late. The reason for her tardiness: an oddly amusing story involving searching for Lindsay’s Escalade and “climbing a hill in YSLs.” (Lindsay doesn’t have a driver’s license at the moment.) Still, compared with past hijinks, this is Lohan lite. “I think at this point,” she offers, “[the media] is like, ‘Let her do what she’s going to do. We’ve seen her do enough.’” Lindsay’s response may explain the nonchalant attitude the press has taken toward her latest reported romance, an apparent stabilizing force. She refuses to name DJ Samantha Ronson, known for her boyish attire, skinny jeans, and porkpie hat, as the object of her affection, though she has alluded to their relationship on her MySpace blog.

They have been photographed together on countless occasions: at Ronson’s sister’s fashion show in New York; cavorting in bikinis on the beach in Los Cabos, Mexico; at Lindsay’s prom-themed 22nd-birthday party this past summer. “I think it’s pretty obvious who I’m seeing,” Lindsay admits after much, much prodding. “I think it’s no shock to anyone that it’s been going on for quite some time. … She’s a wonderful person and I love her very much.” Has she previously been with a girl? She laughs and says, “I don’t know. Maybe.” Has she ever been embarrassed about being attracted to a woman? “No.” Would she classify herself as bisexual? “Maybe. Yeah.” Lesbian? “No.” She goes on, “I don’t want to classify myself. First of all, you never know what’s going to happen — tomorrow, in a month, a year from now, five years from now. I appreciate people, and it doesn’t matter who they are, and I feel blessed to be able to feel comfortable enough with myself that I can say that.” She sees herself getting married “eventually,” but whether to a man or a woman, “I don’t know.”

AWWWW! YAY! I’m so happy that Lindsay is finally comfortable talking about her relationship with Samantha. It’s clear that they are both so happy together, I’m thrilled that it’s no longer an issue for her to talk about it. The rest of the HB interview is a must read … she goes on to talk about how her mother Dina Lohan and sister Ali Lohan support her relationships (“They’re supportive of me whether I’m with a guy or a girl.”). She also talks about how her father’s very public comments about her relationship with Samantha both “embarrass” and “hurt” her … even still, she says, “He’s not a bad guy. Kirsten Dunst says rumors she is romancing Justin Long “are the funniest thing on planet Earth.” “I don’t know him from Adam,” she says in the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar, per USA Today. The two have been photographed repeatedly over the summer. On August 29, Us Weekly reports, he invited her to his $2 million L.A. home. After a sleepover, they hit the Joe Purdy show at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach, Calif., and lunched a day later at the Chateau Marmont, where Long, 30, got them a room. Still, Dunst, 26, insists, “I met him once and he and his friend were kind enough to walk me home. I’ve never seen him since.” She adds that she is still looking for The One.

Now, either A.) this Harper’s Bazzar interview took place before these most recent hook-ups or B.) Kirsten has no idea that we the people are already well aware of their creepin’ around together. I suppose it’s *possible* that the two are just friends … but it strikes me as being strange that she wouldn’t just say that. What’s the big secret? I think they make a cute couple … they should totally go for it! That is, you know, if they’re not going for it already.
