Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, France, addressed the assembled press on the steps of the Fondation Lenval hospital this morning to officially announce the birth of Nice’s newest and most famous twins, Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Léon Jolie-Pitt who were born in his city yesterday. Mayor Estrosi showed off the birth certificates (les acte de naissance) to the press with excitement and pride:

They’re here, officially: On Sunday, Mayor Christian Estrosi of Nice, France, presented one of the birth certificates of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s twins on the steps of Nice’s Fondation Lenval hospital, where son Knox Léon and daughter Vivienne Marcheline were born Saturday. The typed certificate revealed that Knox was born at 6:27 p.m. on July 12. Sister Vivienne came within a minute of that time, Dr. Michel Sussmann tells PEOPLE. The document also showed the Mayor’s signature, as well as Pitt’s initials, the letters WBP representing his full name, William Bradley Pitt. The mayor entered the hospital at 3:24 p.m. to oversee the signing, telling PEOPLE, “It’s a pride to Nice and all its citizens.” Knox is the 3,702 registered birth certificate in Nice for 2008. In welcoming the twins, Estrosi told reporters, “On behalf of the inhabitants of Nice, I congratulate the happy parents, the most famous couple of the world who have chosen our city for this happy event.”

Clearly, the Mayor of Nice is very excited to claim the Jolie-Pitt twins as his own. After the jump, check out a close up of Knox Léon’s birth certificate …

Welp, Angelina Jolie has not given birth to her twin babies yet, at least not as of earlier this morning that is. Here are a couple pics of what looks to be Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt milling about her private hospital room at Lenval Hospital in Nice, France early this morning:

It was previously reported that altho Angelina checked herself into the hospital last week, she is still “weeks away” from giving birth to her twin babies … and here we are, one week down and she still hasn’t brought forth the precious fruit of her very famous loins. Babydaddy Brad Pitt has been showing up at Lenval Hospital for daily visits with his pregs lady (sometimes bringing the kids along with him) but he’s not doing all of his waiting at the hospital … he’s been passing the time with a couple of famous friends as well. Dr. Michel Sussmann, Angelina Jolie’s OBGYN, gave a short press conference today in Nice, France to give an official update as to what exactly is going on with the impending birth of her twins. Previous reports (mine included) speculated that she might give birth by the end of this week but Dr. Sussmann clarified that the birth of the babies is still “weeks away”. Here are a couple new photos of Brad Pitt carrying his daughters Zahara and Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt into the Lenval hospital in Nice so that they could visit with their very pregs mother:

Doctor Michel Sussmann said Jolie is doing fine. He spoke at a short news conference Wednesday in Nice, where Jolie is hospitalized. Asked when Jolie is expected to have her twins, he replied “in the weeks to come.” Sussmann stressed that Jolie checked into the hospital to be kept under surveillance, not because of any medical emergency.

Mebbe Angelina will be able to hold out until her August due date after all. I don’t imagine it’s very much fun having to stay at a hospital for weeks prior to giving birth but I’m sure Brangelina want to make sure that everything is done right in order to avoid any emergencies that might spring up at the last minute. And so … with the rest of the world, we wait …

Yesterday we got word that Angelina Jolie had checked herself into the Lenval hospital in Nice, France to settle in for a pre-planned rest period in the hospital ahead of the birth of her twin babies (which are expected to be born by week’s end) … and today, the Nice-Matin newspaper published a photo of the hospital floor where Ange is supposedly staying:

Angelina Jolie has checked into a hospital in the South of France in anticipation of giving birth to twins, the Associated Press reports. “There’s no urgency,” hospital representative Nadine Bauer tells the AP. “[Jolie's admittance has] been planned for a long time.” Bauer added, “She’s very well. Everything is fine.” Jolie and Brad Pitt are expecting their fifth and sixth children.

Urgency or not, Brad Pitt ain’t takin’ no chances … he is also settling in at the hospital to be with Angelina should the babies decide to pop out at any given time. Here are a couple pics of Brad’s arrival at the Lenval hospital earlier today:

Yeah, it looks like these babies are going to come well ahead of their August due date … they could come at any moment … and I don’t know why but I’m suddenly all excited and nervous for the impending birth of the Brangelina twins. EEEK!

Earlier today, French magazine Closer made the assertion that Angelina Jolie went into labor last night and was in the process of giving birth to her twin babies in a French hospital today. In Touch Weekly sniffed out further deets of this report and have determined that Angelina has not yet gone into labor but she did check herself into the hospital last night as part of a pre-planned rest period before she gives birth … which alludes that Ange may bring forth the fruit of her loins by week’s end. As a result, the Closer magazine “web team” has amended their report to reflect this new information saying, “This morning we informed you that Angelina Jolie was supposedly giving birth. The actress is actually under observation at Lanval hospital in Nice. She was admitted on Sunday afternoon and should remain there until she gives birth of her twins. She is to be due in the upcoming days.”:

This from In Touch: Despite recent reports, Angelina Jolie has not yet given birth to her twins with Brad Pitt. In Touch has learned that the Wanted star did check into the Hospital Lenval’s Santa Maria clinic in Nice, France on June 30. “Ms. Jolie came to the hospital last night as part of a pre-planned rest period, before she gives birth,” Nadine Bauer, spokeswoman for the hospital tells In Touch. “The visit has been planned for a long time, there are no complications. She is just resting” Bauer adds. Angelina’s babies are expected to be delivered by French doctor Michele Sussmann and her regular OBGYN Jason Rothbart, who is due to fly to Europe later this week.

LOL … Angelina Jolie scratches her nose and folks start up the “she’s giving birth” reports. Have we learned nothing from the tragic misstep made last month by Entertainment Tonight who erroneously reported that not only did Angelina give birth but they held fast to their assertions even after Jolie released a statement denying their report. The babies will come … maybe this week, maybe next week … people need to chill out for a sec and let the woman birth her babies in peace.
