Emma Watson Does British ‘Elle’ Magazine

"I’ll fade into the background a bit."
Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Emma Watson, star of the upcoming Summer movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of British Elle magazine. In addition to another fashion forward photospread, Emma talks a bit about the anonymity that she hopes to achieve once she enters college here in the US (it’s rumored she’ll attend classes at Columbia University) after she completes filming the final Harry Potter movie The Deathly Hallows. Here is Emma’s British Elle coverphoto and a portion of her coverstory interview:

It’s hard to imagine Emma Watson ever fading into the background – but according to the Harry Potter actress that’s exactly what she wants to do. The 19-year-old is busy preparing for the end of the Harry Potter franchise and her start at U.S. university Columbia in September. And, despite her worldwide fame, she has revealed she hopes to be just another ‘anonymous’ student. “I’m so excited. Living in London, it’s hard to be anonymous,” she told Elle magazine. “But hopefully, on some campus somewhere, I’ll fade into the background a bit.” But if the photos accompanying the article are anything to go by, fashion fan Emma will stand out wherever she goes. The rock chick-style shoot shows her with backcombed hair and dramatic eye makeup, showing off her figure in leggings, heels and space-age suits. Emma, who lives with a flatmate in Hampstead, had considered taking up a place at Cambridge University, after receiving straight As in her A’levels. But she reveals: ‘I’m very aware that with Cambridge, people would find that interesting. “Cambridge is so high profile in itself and then, on top of that, people don’t really go out in Cambridge because it’s so small, so I’ll be going out in London and then that’s just the same thing. I definitely am attracted to the States for that reason.” With the end of filming on the Harry Potter series of eight films, Emma will be saying goodbye to her ’second family’ on the Watford set. “It’s going to sound dramatic, but I feel like it’s going to be my life over as I know it,” she said. “My whole life has been about Harry Potter and then all of that will shut down and I don’t know what it will be like. I go to university in September – I’ll be doing bits and bobs at Christmas, but September feels like my cut-off point, the moment when I’ll really stop.” And, having already banked more than £10 million, Emma isn’t certain she will return to acting. “At the moment I feel like I need to go away and figure out what I want to do and be myself for a bit,” she said. “Does that sound strange? I just want to take a step back from it and not rush into stuff. I need university to give me that break. People think because I’m going to university I’m never going to act again, but it’s actually me. I want to figure out how I feel about everything first. Maybe I’ll keep acting, maybe I won’t. I just want to find something where I feel I have to do this. Maybe that’ll happen when I read a script. It felt like that with Hermione. I want to feel like that again.” But if that doesn’t happen Emma already has another career in mind – she says she would enjoy being a make-up artist.

Um … or a fashion model! OK, mebbe not a model for real but she does rock these hot outfits right. After the jump, check out a few of Emma’s photos from this issue of British Elle magazine …

Emma Watson Does ‘Teen Vogue’ Magazine

"I'm young, so I'm still experimenting"
Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Emma Watson’s collection of magazine covers continues to grow as she appears on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Teen Vogue magazine. Emma’s accompanying photoshoot features her rockin’ some pretty swanky outfits … which should come as no surprise to those of you who have been following her growth as a little fashionista. Here is Emma’s Teen Vogue magazine coverphoto and a portion of her coverstory interview:

She was just shy of ten years old when she took on the role of Hermione Granger, the bookish, bushy-haired sidekick to the titular hero of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. So feverishly anticipated was that first film—and so beloved were its four sequels (the fifth, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, hits theaters this month)—that Emma Watson, now nineteen, has been world-famous for more than half her life. That kind of renown has its downsides: Although the famously rabid British tabloids were (relatively) hands-off during the actress’s adolescence, they celebrated her eighteenth birthday by sending so many paparazzi to cover her London party that, she says, “I literally couldn’t get out the door at the end of the night.” (“The worst thing,” she adds, indignantly, “was that they laid down on the pavement and took pictures up my skirt. Now I’m going to wear cycling shorts whenever I get out of cars.”) Her year-long romance with financier Jay Barrymore is reportedly “on/off,” but Emma insists that they’ve actually been consistently together, and that “the only reason it’s ‘on/off’ is because the papers make up so much rubbish!” But observe the actress at her third Teen Vogue cover shoot—which takes place at a sprawling old English country manor that promises, in its brochure, both Norman castle ruins and “interesting shrubs”—and you’ll quickly see how Emma benefited from growing up inside a fishbowl. For one thing, she is enviably self-possessed. Even when the pair of miniature horses she’s been asked to lead picturesquely down a garden path become overexcited, she simply giggles and awaits her next direction. And even when dressed in impossibly high heels, wild patterned leggings, and a poufy mini, with her hair piled precariously atop her head and fastened with brightly colored netting, Emma’s poised enough to prevent the clothes from wearing her. Fashion, in fact, has long been of particular interest to Emma. She’s worn enough big-night Chanel to become friendly with Karl Lagerfeld, the line’s iconic designer—”It’s kind of my lucky brand,” she explains, “a fail-safe”—and lately she has been branching out, experimenting with Balenciaga, Burberry (for whom she’s a fall face), Miu Miu, Alice Temperley, and a little-known Englishman named William Tempest, whose designs she first spotted at an up-and-comers event called Fashion Fringe. When she’s not premiere-hopping, she says, “I live, really, in jeans from Topshop, blazers from Ralph Lauren or Reiss, and ballet flats.” “It’s very hard to describe your own style,” she admits. “And I’m young, so I’m still experimenting. But I think it’s quite British and very much about individuality.” Emma says she prefers to pull her own party dresses, but even when she’s short on time and must work with a stylist, she’s careful to make sure that the resulting outfits don’t look overdone. As she explains, “There’s nothing interesting about looking perfect—you lose the point. You want what you’re wearing to say something about you, about who you are” … It’s not uncommon for working actresses Emma’s age to apply to college, but she is quite unique in her determination to give it a serious go. Perhaps that’s because she’s still not 100 percent sure she even wants to be a movie star when she grows up. “There’s not, like, a burning passion in me,” she admits, “that I have to act and I don’t care what I do. Until something comes along that I feel as strongly about as I did Hermione—like, I felt that it was life or death—I don’t want to act again.” Instead she’ll study English Literature and art, though exactly where, she won’t say. (Cambridge, Brown, and Yale are all heavily favored by the Internet rumor mill, but given her insane popularity in the U.K. and the overly aggressive paparazzi, it’s likely she’ll end up in the States.) “I just want to keep it private for as long as I can,” she explains. “I probably sound like a paranoid nut, but I’m doing this because I want to be normal. I really want anonymity.” Emma even intends to live with a roommate in the freshman dorms, a decision which Dan Radcliffe told her was crazy. “But I want to do it properly, like everyone else. As long as I don’t walk in,” she adds jokingly, “and see, like, Harry Potter posters everywhere, I’ll be fine.”

I seriously love everything about Emma Watson … her attitude about things is so refreshing. I absolutely applaud her decision to go to college and hold off on an acting career until the next right part comes along. I have no doubt she will be a huge success in whatever endeavor she chooses next. Perhaps a career in fashion later on down the line? After the jump, check out a few photos from Emma’s Teen Vogue photospread …

Emma Watson Does ‘Yodona’ Magazine

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’s fave little fashionista is at it again. After appearing appearing in high fashion photospreads for Interview magazine, Crash magazine and being named the new face of Burberry, Emma Watson is featured in the high fashion Spanish magazine Yodona looking quite fetching. Here are a few pics of Emma from the latest issue of the mag:

EMMA WATSON certainly knows how to turn on the magic when there’s a camera about. The Harry Potter star looks sultry and beautiful in these new shots from her modelling agency. And her swept back hair, black make up and short shift dress bring back memories of sixties style icon Twiggy. Another stunning shot of the actress, dressed in a white strapless dress, appeared on the Spanish magazine Yodona. The petit 19-year-old has already picked up a fat paycheque for her new role as the face of Burberry. And she’ll soon have the fashion world under her spell.

I totally agree that if Emma really wants to have a career in modeling, she can have it. I suspect, tho, that all the fashion stuff will take a backseat to her acting career. While I love her as Hermoine Granger in the Harry Potter films, I am very curious to see what she can do with another role. Daniel Radcliffe has proven that he has the ability to portray many challenging roles very well, I’d love to know if Emma can do the same. She still has a couple of Harry Potter films to get thru first … which I suspect will afford her the ability to keep modeling as she sees fit to take on.

Emma Watson Is The New Face Of Burberry

Stylista
Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Harry Potter’s Emma Watson has been turning into quite the little fashion plate lately. First we saw her posing in high fashion couture by Karl Lagerfeld and now we learn that she is featured in the new ad campaign for Burberry … here are a few of the promo pics that feature Miss Watson rockin’ the new Burberry collection:

Well, it’s nicer than her Hogwarts uniform. After weeks of speculation, Emma Watson was today unveiled as the face of Burberry. Photographed by Mario Testino, Watson looks extremely grown up in trench coats from the autumn/winter collection. Despite persistent rumours linking her to Chanel, and her ubiquitous presence at international fashion shows, Burberry is the first major advertising campaign that the 19-year-old Harry Potter star has landed. And it’s predicted the prestigious contract will boost her estimated £8million fortune by six figures. Shot by Mario Testino in Westminster, close to Burberry’s headquarters at Horseferry House, the images capture Watson in a collection inspired by Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury set. Burberry’s creative director Christopher Bailey told The Evening Standard: “Having known and admired the lovely Emma Watson for quite some time, she was the obvious choice for this campaign. Emma has a classic beauty, a great character and a modern edge. Her charm, intellect and brilliant sense of fun made the whole shoot feel like a picnic on the Thames.” He added: “I felt Emma would be strong enough to hold the campaign as the only girl, and I loved the idea of her being surrounded by these young, cool British guys.” Watson first appeared as Hermione Granger alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint in Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone in 2001. The sixth film Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince is released on 15 July.

She looks great! I love the way that Emma Watson is growing into a beautifully mature young woman. She seems the perfect choice for major brands to turn when when looking for a celebrity spokesperson. The girl has a level head on her shoulders, she’s good at her craft and she’s got the poise to represent these high end brands. It’s no wonder that the design houses are fighting over her. Keep up the good work, Emma.

Emma Watson Does ‘Crash’ Magazine

Nun sense
Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Emma Watson, star of the Harry Potter movie franchise and emerging fashion model, is featured in the new issue of the French fashion magazine Crash in a very interesting photoshoot shot by fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Here are a couple of Emma’s, shall we say, fashion-forward looks for the mag:

This is not the first time she’s crossed over from actress to model. In fact, it’s becoming something of a habit. And Emma Watson’s latest photoshoot is the most daring and unusual yet. In one of the pictures, she appears as a ghostly-looking nun, with a veil, white eyebrows and an other-wordly expression on her face. In another, she is considerably less ethereal, wearing an Alexander McQueen bodice-style top and a revealing Vivienne Westwood shirt. The photos were taken for French fashion magazine Crash by Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld. The 19-year-old Harry Potter star agreed to the shoot after meeting him at a party. She told the magazine: “This was a dream come true. We spent the whole day together and he can talk about anything – literature, art, science, modern culture. I was totally seduced.” Miss Watson, who took part in a shoot for Italian Vogue last year, is currently filming the first installment of the final Harry Potter film.

Normally, I hate photoshoots like this. Making women look like aliens does nothing for me. But, I do love it when someone like Björk does interesting things with her look, so I guess — for me — it depends on the subject of the photo. That said, I love Emma Watson and I like these odd pics of her. After the jump, check out a few more pics from this shoot — they’re deffo Lagerfeld but, I think, are kinda cool …

Filming Continues On The Set Of ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’

Jumping the gun wand
Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Yesterday we got our first look at Helena Bonham Carter in the role of Bellatrix Lestrange on the London set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows … and today we get to see a few more pics from the set. This time, we get to see principal stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Emma Watson (Hermoine Granger) chillin’ on the set in between takes … and another photo of Bellatrix being her usual evil self:

There are other more spoilery photos but I don’t want to post too many pics this early in the filming. We’ve got plenty of time to see little teaser pics from the set. Deathly Hallows is going to be an epic film, I can just feel it. The book itself is too huge to be contained by just one movie. The film will prolly be the one Harry Potter movie that will contain almost all of the best bits from the book. Previously, the films had to cut content to fit in the time constraints. This 2 part film will have lots of time to do the final Harry Potter book justice. But … while all of this Hallows talk is very exciting, we still have The Half-Blood Prince to look forward to this Summer. So much Harry Potter!! Woot!

‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Begins Filming

Part I
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Now that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is in the can, ready for release this July it’s about time that production got underway on the big screen adaptation of the 7th and final book in the Harry Potter series, The Deathly Hallows. Because the book is so epic is size and scope (at least for a kid’s book) and because the movie studio would like to get as many movies out of the series as possible, Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows will be broken up into two films — part I and part II — to be released over time. Here are a few photos of the three stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermoine Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) on the London streets set of part I of the final film:

While it is very exciting that production is finally underway on the movie(s) version of the final HP book, it’s a bit sad that it’s all coming to an end again. When The Deathly Hallows was released in book form back in 2007, it was met with great enthusiasm as well as great sadness. The finality of the story was bittersweet to many (me included). The release of the special book The Tales of Beadle the Bard was a nice little Harry Potter treat to snack on last Xmas but now that the book series is finished there is nothing really to look forward to anymore. The HP movies, at least, provide that outlet of looking forward … but once these films are finished and released — that’s it. JK Rowling has hinted that she may return to the world of Harry Potter in some way again in the future but I’m not sure I’m ready to hold my breath just yet. As I mentioned before, I’m planning on rereading the entire series in the coming months in order to refresh my memory and get back into the world of Harry Potter again. I am anxious to see The Half-Blood Prince this Summer … and The Deathly Hallows thereafter. Now that production has begun on the Deathly movie(s) it won’t be very long until we’ll be talking about that film in the theaters, too.
