News today is that Portia De Rossi will be back on our screens! She will be the lead actress in a new TV show called, “The Smart One,” and the script has been developed by her wife, Ellen DeGeneres. Read on for more details about the new show…

Earlier this week I reported on Octavia Spencer opening up to reporters at the SAG awards about her take on weight loss, health and body image. Today we got a look at Octavia talking to Ellen Degeneres about the THREE pairs of Spanx she wore to the awards and reveals a hilarious story about losing a bet and as a result having to run down the street in her underwear, wearing only bra, panties and Uggs! Did you guys check out some of the People’s Choice Awards last night? It’s more light and frivolous than the Oscars, and more casual couture, but it is still exciting. I tune in to see who wins as much as to what the musical performances and at time ridiculous comedic acts. I also love the idea of one of the award shows coming directly from the fans. Yesterday we learned that Ellen DeGeneres turned 53 years old and today we get to see how she celebrated her birthday. For her birthday episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday, Ellen was treated to surprise guest appearances by actors Julia Roberts and Colin Farrell, of course there was a big cake and a lot of music. IMHO, the best gift she got was a birthday serenade from her wife Portia de Rossi who sang Happy Birthday in the style of Marilyn Monroe.

On Wednesday we learned that Camille Grammer, the soon-to-be ex-wife of Kelsey Grammer, has decided to not appear on the second season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and today Camille appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to explain why she decided to do the show in the first place (Kelsey “made” her do it), whether or not she’s really quitting the show (she hasn’t decided yet), whether or not she talks to Kelsey anymore (she doesn’t) and more.

The very pregnant Mariah Carey was among the featured performers (alongside Glee‘s Matthew Morrison and host Ellen DeGeneres) at the taping last night of Christmas In Washington. In addition to the holiday music performances, the Obama family was there to help spread the Xmas cheer! Here are a few photos and deets from last night’s taping:

A pregnant and glowing Mariah Carey helped President Barack Obama and his family ring in the holidays Sunday night at the annual ‘Christmas in Washington’ concert. Carey showed off her growing baby bump in a long red dress. She is expecting her first child with husband Nick Cannon. The festivities, hosted by comedian Ellen DeGeneres, took place at the National Building Museum and benefited the Children’s National Medical Center. The entertainers, including Glee star Matthew Morrison, sang Christmas songs and performed for the Obama family — including first lady Michelle, daughters Malia, 12, and Sasha, 9, and First Grandmother Marian Robinson — in a packed auditorium. DeGeneres’ wife Portia de Rossi beamed from her front-row seat by the First Family. At the end the Obamas joined all the evening’s performers on stage for a rendition of ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’ In remarks to the crowd, Obama talked about the story of Jesus’ birth. ‘The story and message speak to us today. We are called to love each other as we love ourselves,’ Obama said from the stage, with his family surrounding him. He cited the tougher circumstances for many people these holidays. ‘We pray for our troops. We remember those who are out of work and struggling to get by,’ Obama said, urging people to show ‘charity, passion and goodwill’ to their neighbors. ‘From our family to yours, happy holidays and Merry Christmas.’ Early in event the Obama family also offered presents from the White House to a group of young children dressed as elves, who placed them under a Christmas tree. ‘Ho, ho, ho. Fantastic elves,’ Obama said as the group posed for pictures. The concert will air Friday on cable channel TNT.

Now, I don’t usually fall for this kind of Xmas schmaltz but I’m so loving how fabulous Mariah Carey looks with her baby bump that I’m gonna hafta tune in this Friday night. Mimi‘s hubby Nick was in the hiz last night but I do not believe he appeared on stage as a performer. He did take some time to pose backstage with Mariah and their burgeoning baby bump. There has been a HUGE shake-up on the Fox competitive TV series American Idol in just the past few hours … late yesterday, Ellen DeGeneres (the newest judge on the show) announced on her official Twitter profile that she has quit the show after just one season. Ellen broke the news on her Twitter profile and posted a link to a more lengthy explanation as to why she decided to quit the show, which you can read in full here:

Dim the lights…I’ve voted myself off American Idol. / A couple months ago, I let FOX and the “American Idol” producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on “Idol” and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.

Wow. Ellen signed a multimillion dollar, multi-year deal to judge American Idol but had a clause that allowed her to leave the show if Simon Cowell ever left the show … now that she’s out after just one year, I understand that Fox will still have to pay her out of her contract. Additionally, it is being reported that the next newest judge Kara DioGuardi has been fired from the show! Apparently, Fox wants to go back to the 3 judge panel and has reportedly already hired all three judges … and you’ll never believe who they are. Find out, after the jump …

Happily marrieds Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi popped up at a luxury resort in Mexico Friday mere moments after Ellen finished up her work duties here in LA. As you may know, Ellen tended her to duties on American Idol Tuesday and Wednesday night and taped an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday morning … and then she and Portia — our beloved de Generossi — packed their bags and got the hell out of the country for a little rest and relaxation:

Considering how hard these ladies work most of the year, I can appreciate how anxious they must’ve been to get away from it all so that they could relax. I’m certain Ellen will have herself a great holiday weekend in Mexico, especially when you consider how hawt Portia looks in her skimpy little spandex outfit. I don’t expect we’ll be seeing too much of the ladies on this little vacation … I mean, they prolly have plans to enjoy their time with one another away from prying eyes. Get it, girls!!

A few weeks ago we learned the happy news that Universal Studios in Orlando, FL will open their new attraction – The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – on June 18 … but this week, Ellen DeGeneres got to visit the World of Harry Potter to bring us a sneak preview of the attraction. But, before we get to Ellen … let’s check out a new promo photo released by Universal Studios that shows us what Hogwart’s groundskeeper Hagrid‘s hut looks like at this new theme park attraction:

Universal Orlando has launched a brand-new feature on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter website that will regularly roll out new information and updates about the area. Click HERE to check it out, and to see a first-look photograph of Hagrid’s Hut within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. An authentic replica from the Harry Potter films, guests will pass by Hagrid’s Hut on their way to the Flight of the Hippogriff family-friendly roller coaster.

Oh man … this looks and SOUNDS so cool. I am so dying to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter myself. Unfortch, tho, the attraction is still a couple months away from being ready for the public … unless you happen to be Ellen Degeneres. Happy Hallowe’en, y’all!! As some of you may be well aware, Hallowe’en is the pagan new year and is said to be the time of the year when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest … meaning that ghosts and ghouls can cross over into the world of the living to either trick or treat us with spooky fun. Hollywood is never immune to the infectious pull of Hallowe’en each year … here are a few photos of some celebs all dressed up in Hallowe’en costumes this year:

I love that Ellen DeGeneres dressed up as Oprah Winfrey‘s O Magazine, Mickey Rourke dressed up as … well … I’m not sure what he dressed up as but it’s fun that he covered up his normally leathery tanned skin. The O’Connell brothers, Charlie and Jerry, dressed up as a shark and Shamu the whale respectively at the Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times 17th annual Halloween Carnival held this week at Universal Studios … and Matthew McConaughey dressed up as the Bee Girl from the Blind Melon music video. See … it’s fun to dress up for Hallowe’en. I urge y’all to get in on the fun and dress up, too!! I am so excited for my costume! I wore a fun Incredible Hulk costume (see it HERE) to the Dead Man’s Bones concert last night but my main Hallowe’en costume will be revealed later on today (watch my Twitter).
