‘US Weekly’ Presents ‘Hot Hollywood Style’ 2009

US Weekly magazine hosted their annual Hot Hollywood Style party at My House nightclub here in LA, CA last night and managed to attempted to bring out all of the fabulously stylish people in Hollywood … but they only managed to lure folks like Paris Hilton (who would show up at the opening of a door) and Fergie Ferg (who we’ve already seen today is a MEGA style maven). But, some pretty cool folks like Eliza Dushku and Ashley Jones (who currently stars in the CBS soap The Bold and the Beautiful but will also appear in the second season of HBO‘s True Blood this Summer) as well. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals last night:

Yes, yes … the usual suspects posing for the cameras. I’m not sure what exactly the criteria is for one to be deemed to have Hot Hollywood Style but I guess this is it. I seem to recall that previous parties from previous years seemed to have a more impressive turnout. In any event, it was US Weekly‘s party and they can cry if they want to (and if I were them, I would). Better luck next year!

Eliza Dushku Does ‘Boston Common’ Magazine

Dollhouse star and Buffyverse alum Eliza Dushku was on hand at Alibi inside the Liberty Hotel in Boston, MA earlier this week for a premiere party in honor of the new issue of Boston Common magazine which features her on the cover. Here are a few photos of the beautiful Eliza at the magazine party this week:

Eliza always looks so great … I’m glad to see that her hometown is so proud of her. While I’ve never read an issue of Boston Common before I’m pretty sure the mag was helped muchly by having Eliza on its cover … as would any magazine, actually. I’m really enjoying Dollhouse and I’m really hoping that the show will be able to find its audience so that it can stay on the air. Love her!!

Mickey Rourke is having a great awards show season
The 2009 Film Independent’s Spirit Awards Are Handed Out

Various celebs from the world of independent film made their way out to the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, CA yesterday to attend the annual Film Independent’s Spirit Awards which are traditionally handed out on the eve of the Academy Awards. Honoring independent film and independent filmmakers, the Indies are handed out in a casual and usually celebratory atmosphere … and last night’s awards show was no exception. The Wrestler and the film’s lead Mickey Rourke did very well at this year’s Indies, taking home the top film and male acting prize … setting the stage for a possible repeat at tonight’s Academy Awards. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals and some info on last night’s awards show:

Mickey Rourke and “The Wrestler” have won top honors at the Spirit Awards, the annual eve-of-Oscars salute to the best of independent cinema. Rourke, a nominee at Sunday’s Academy Awards, won the best actor for his performance as a washed-up prizefighter in director Darren Aronofsky’s moving drama, which later scooped the ceremony’s best picture prize. Rourke’s award was the latest in a series of honors that have gone to the 56-year-old, who has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity after his career suffered a prolonged slump through the 1990s. In a typically profanity-laced acceptance speech, Rourke dedicated the win to “Wrestler” director Aronofsky — and his pet chihuahua, who died last week. “I’ve just gotten thousands of letters from strangers and people that know me about my dog that died six days ago, Loki. This is for you baby,” he said. “Thank you Darren Aronofsky for believing in me. Directors like Darren come around every 25 years,” added Rourke. Aronofksy said he had been drawn to the “The Wrestler” because of its subject matter. “Wrestling was a world no one had tackled in a serious way, and the more we looked into that world, the more complex it seemed,” he said. In other awards Saturday, Oscar nominee Melissa Leo won the best actress award for her performance in the human-trafficking drama “Frozen River.” Tom McCarthy meanwhile took best director honors for “The Visitor,” which is notable for helping journeyman Richard Jenkins earn a best actor nomination at Sunday’s Oscars. In the supporting actor and actress categories, Spanish siren Penelope Cruz won for her performance in Woody Allen’s steamy comedy “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” Cruz will be seeking to emulate the success at the Oscars, where she is nominated in the best supporting actress category. “I didn’t expect this,” Cruz said. “I go to all awards like this, not expecting anything, so it’s always a surprise when I win.” Meanwhile James Franco picked up the best supporting actor award for his portrayal of gay politician Harvey Milk’s long-time lover Scott Smith in the Gus Van Sant biopic “Milk,” which also earned best first screenplay for writer Dustin Lance Black. Black later paid tribute to Sean Penn’s portrayal of Milk, California’s first openly gay elected official. “Sean’s performance really captured Harvey,” Black said. “That’s why this film has such a connection beyond gay and lesbian audiences. We need to continue building the coalitions that Harvey was so good at.” In other notable awards Saturday, France’s “The Class (Entre Les Murs)” won the best foreign film, while the best documentary went to “Man on Wire,” director James Marsh’s exhilarating account of Frenchman Philippe Petit’s tight-rope walk between the two towers of the World Trade Center in 1974. “What Philippe did was to stop time, it was a little miracle,” Marsh told reporters.

Altho the Film Indepedent’s Spirit Awards are only 25 years old, I love that there is a place for Indie films to get their due when, overwhelmingly, the Motion Picture Academy tends to overlook many amazing performances due to, well, their indieness. True, some Independent Films and actors get honored at the Academy Awards but, for the most part, name recognition plays a huge part in the voting process. I’m sure many of you have never even heard of the film Frozen River and yet, it was one of the year’s strongest films. After the jump, check out a couple photos from the show itself and some pics of a few winners posing with their Indie trophies in the press room afterward …

Who needs clothing?
Eliza Dushku Does ‘Maxim’ Magazine

Buffyverse star Eliza Dushku is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of the March issue of Maxim magazine just in time for the premiere of her new Joss Whedon-created FOX TV series Dollhouse. As you can plainly see from this coverphoto, Eliza doesn’t need clothing to try and get you to take notice of her talents … behold:

She is a very pretty girl … and I understand a fave of Maxim magazine (she’s been featured in the mag more than once or twice). While I realize this sort of promotion isn’t necessarily geared toward someone like me, I can deffo see its appeal for others. After the jump, check out a couple other photos of Eliza from this new issue of Maxim mag — yes, she’s still only wearing her undies …

Wowzers!
Eliza Dushku Appears In New Promo Images For ‘Dollhouse’

A whole slew of new promo images of Eliza Dushku in various states of dress (and undress) have made their way to the Internets ahead of the premiere of her new Joss Whedon TV series Dollhouse, which debuts on FOX a week from this Friday on the 13th. The official Dollhouse website has been updated with a gallery of promo images that have been made to look like Polaroid photos (methinks Joss is a Polaroid fan as well). Here are a few of these new promo images:

While these photos are hot and sexy there are other photos that are even hotter and sexier … and feature a lot less clothing. After the jump, check out another batch of promo photos that are a whole lot more nekkid …

Faith the 'Dollhouse' player models a few hair'dos
Eliza Dushku Does ‘In Style’ Magazine

Former Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel star Eliza Dushku appears in the new issue of In Style magazine modeling a few look-changing hair’dos in order to promote her upcoming new series Dollhouse which premieres on FOX on Friday February 13. Here are a few photos of Eliza from the mag:

As I mentioned previously, in Dollhouse, Eliza plays the character of Echo — a woman stripped of her own personality and who is programmed with new personalities on a weekly basis .. therefore, she makes the perfect person to model these new looks for the mag. Of the three, I think I like the ponytail look the best … the bob ain’t doin’ it for me. To be honest, tho, Eliza looks pretty damn good no matter what hair’do she’s rockin’. Which of these three ‘dos do you prefer?

More hot men on the way
‘GQ’ Magazine Honors The ‘Men Of The Year’ For 2008

While People magazine is honoring its annual list of the Sexiest Men Alive today, GQ magazine has compiled its own list of men to honor as well. Both male and female celebs made their way out to the Chateau Marmont in LA, CA last night to enjoy GQ magazine’s 2008 Men Of The Year Partybestowing top honors to Leonardo DiCaprio and John Malcovich. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals last night:

Actors Leonardo DiCaprio and John Malkovich walked away with top awards at this year’s GQ Men of the Year ceremony. The Body Of Lies star picked up the Leading Man Trophy, while Malkovich was named Mad Genius of the Year at the men’s magazine awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Tuesday. President-elect Barack Obama was given the nod as Game Changer of the Year, actor Jon Hamm was handed the Breakout award and Olympic champion Michael Phelps took home the ultimate accolade for Golden Boy of the Year. The glittering party attracted some of Hollywood’s brightest male stars, including DiCaprio, Zac Efron, Adam Brody and Aaron Eckhart. And although the annual celebration recognizes leading men, the ladies were out in full force too, with Megan Fox, Rosario Dawson and Elisha Cuthbert turning out for the red carpet bash. The main list of winners is as follows:

Leading Man: Leonardo DiCaprio
Game Changer: Barack Obama
Breakout: Jon Hamm
Golden Boy: Michael Phelps
Mad Genius of the Year: John Malkovich
Obsession of the Year: Megan Fox
Drama Queen of the Year: Sean Penn
Screen Idol of the Year: James Franco
Tough Guys of the Year: The Wire Writers
Mogul of the Year: Seth MacFarlane
Prick of the Year: Gordon Ramsay

While I don’t necessarily agree with this list of honorees as I did with the People magazine list, there are a few winners that I am in complete agreement with — Barack Obama, Megan Fox, James Franco. After the jump, check out a few more photos from the red carpet arrivals last night — there is more hotness to be had …

J. Lo can't have all the glory
Eliza Dushku Is A Triathlete

Yesterday I posted a few pics of Jennier Lopez, Matthew McConaughey and Mark-Paul Gosselaar at the Nautica Malibu Triathlon which took place in Malibu, CA on Sunday … but I failed to realize that Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel alum Eliza Dushku, who will be starring in the upcoming FOX series Dollhouse, was also among the celebrity competitors at this year’s triathlon race. Here are a few pics of Eliza‘s triathlon day:

She looks great. I just love her. Kudos and props to Eliza and all of the athletes who competed in the triathlon race this year. I gotta say, my hat is deffo off to those folks who can make their way thru a grueling race like this … I don’t know that I can ever do something like that myself. Again, well done … and Eliza, I

San Diego Comic Con is a wrap
So Dork The ‘Con’ Of Man

And so … another San Diego Comic Con has come to pass … and as usual, I was out of the country and unable to attend — but there are a lot of fun pictures to check out that will kinda sorta make it feel like I’m part of the experience but, you know, without having to actually endure all the ridiculous costumery in person ;) Here are a few pics of some of the more zealous Comic Con attendees this year:

And here are a few pics of some of the principal stars of the NBC hit Heroes who attended the Con this year to promote the upcoming third season of the show:

Honestly, there are just too many things that were presented at this year’s Con that I can’t possibly post them all … but Entertainment Weekly was in the hiz taking photos of some of my fave sci-fi/comic booky things at this year’s convention to give a nice overview. After the jump, check out a few EW photos of some of my fave things that I would’ve checked out had I attended this year’s Comic Con
