Bieber Skates with Lii' Wayne, Records with Timbaland
Justin Bieber Is A Sk8r Boi In Miami, FL

Pop star Justin Bieber has made his way down to Miami, FL to begin work on his next album Believe but in between studio sessions, he was spotted doing a bit of skateboarding with his friend Lil’ Wayne. As I understand it, Bieber is in Miami to record with producer Timbaland but it is not yet known if Weezy will be appearing on the disc. My guess is that since the guys are such close skateboarding BFFs, it wouldn’t be entirely out of the realm of possibility that Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. might spit a rhyme for The Biebs. Click below to check out some photos of Sk8r Bois JB and Weezy.

Weezy gets booked at last
Lil’ Wayne Begins Serving His Prison Sentence

After quite a few delays, rapper Lil’ Wayne (née Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) finally showed up yesterday morning to be formally sentenced for his illegal weapons possession conviction in NYC and today he begins serving his term at Rikers Island. Wayne has been sentenced to serve 12 months in prison (but will actually be serving out his term in state jails due to his celebrity) with the possibility of early release in 8 months for good behavior. Here is Lil’ Wayne‘s booking mug shot and some deets from his last moments as a free may yesterday morning:

After saying goodbye on concert stages and online video streams, Lil Wayne had nothing to add as he was sentenced Monday to a year in jail for having a loaded gun on his tour bus. The Grammy Award-winning rapper delivered only a brief bow to fans and supporters as he was led out of a courtroom in handcuffs to start serving his sentence. With that, Lil Wayne headed off to face his punishment in a case that had shadowed him as he became one of music’s most prolific and profitable figures in recent years. Arrested in July 2007, he pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He admitted he had the loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his bus. His lawyer, Stacey Richman, said the rapper was resolute as he was taken away. “He knew what he had to do, and he’s doing it,” she said. Lil Wayne arrived later Tuesday at the Rikers Island jail complex, where he was being held apart from the general population of inmates because of his fame. He has a cell to himself but the option of spending time in a TV room with 17 other inmates who also have been separated from the general population because of notoriety or other reasons, according to the city Correction Department. It wasn’t immediately clear what work assignment he might have, if any. The 27-year-old rap star could be released in about eight months with good behavior … Although Lil Wayne had agreed to go to jail, a number of roadblocks kept him from starting his sentence in recent weeks. First, his sentencing was postponed in February so he could undergo surgery on his bejeweled teeth. Then, a fire shut down Manhattan’s main criminal courthouse while he was on his way there last week. He told Rolling Stone for a story last month that he planned to keep working while behind bars. “I’ll be still rapping in there, have a gang of raps ready when I come back home,” he said. As for listening to music, inmates are allowed to buy AM/FM radios at the jail commissary.

As I said before, this prison sentence will end up being a boon for Lil’ Wayne‘s career. Don’t cry for him, Argentina … he’ll deffo be turning these lemons into very lucrative lemonade once he gets out of jail in 8 months. After the jump, check out Wayne‘s side profile mug shot along with a video report from MTV about Wayne‘s day of reckoning …

"I'm looking forward to [prison]."
Lil’ Wayne Does ‘Rolling Stone’ Magazine

On the eve of his upcoming 1-year prison sentence for illegal weapons possession, rapper Lil’ Wayne (née Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) is featured on the cover of the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In his coverstory interview, Wayne confesses that it is his belief that God wants him in prison … tho, I suspect the authorities who arrested, prosecuted, convicted and sentenced him prolly want him in prison, too. Here is Lil’ Wayne‘s RS coverphoto along with some excerpts from his interview:

Lil Wayne is constantly moving. But the hyperactive hip-hop star will find himself suddenly sedentary come Tuesday, when he has to report to prison to serve a yearlong sentence for gun possession. “I don’t like to stop,” Wayne, 27, tells Rolling Stone. “I believe you stop when you die.” He says his prison term is God’s will for him and everything happens for a reason. Wayne’s felony charge came after a July 2007 arrest in New York City, when police found a .40-caliber handgun in his tour bus. Initially Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., pleaded not guilty – but in October, he changed his plea to guilty in exchange for a reduced 12-month sentence. But before he finds himself waking up behind bars at New York’s Rikers Island, Wayne is packing in video shoots, recording sessions of songs from The Carter IV and time with his family. He says he’s avoiding getting tips on prison life. “This is Lil Wayne going to jail,” he says. “Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that’s like. I just say I’m looking forward to it.”

I’m not a Lil’ Wayne fan by any means but I can appreciate that he is a very talented, hugely popular artist and I find it wholly fascinating that the fact that he is going to prison for weapons possession will likely make him an even bigger star. Celebs these days can practically get away with murder and still enjoy much success afterward whereas celebs of the past could not. The old adage there’s no such thing as bad press rings more true today than ever before. I’m pretty sure Wayne‘s plan is to get as much work done as possible before he goes to prison, then turn his prison experience into more work which will — in turn — prove a huge, successful boon later on down the road. It’s nuts, y’all … but these days, I guess it’s just the way the game is played.

Faces up to a year in jail
Lil’ Wayne Pleads Guilty To Gun Possession

Lil’ Wayne, who was arrested on charges of gun possession back in 2007 and was scheduled to go to on trail in January for said charges, has decided to plead guilty and forgo a lengthy trial. Because of his guilty plea, it is expected that Wayne (née Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) will face a year in jail as punishment … which, it sounds like, is more tolerable than a multi-year jail sentence had he gone to trial and was found guilty by the court:

The Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession, and expects to receive a one-year jail sentence. He previously had pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession charges that carried at least 3 1/2 years in prison upon conviction. Police said a gun was found on his tour bus in Manhattan in 2007. The rapper, born Dwayne Carter, won last year’s best rap solo performance Grammy for “A Milli.” His albums include “Tha Carter,” “Tha Carter II” and “Tha Carter III.” His trial had been due to start Jan. 20.

I mean … when you’re guilty, you’re guilty … and you’ve got to be pretty guilty to voluntarily plead guilty and face jail time. I suppose on some level this will give Lil’ Wayne street cred and will give him license to rap about his time in jail so I guess that’s one positive thing to come from this mess. Perhaps Lil’ Wayne will do some growing up behind bars and will emerge as Big Wayne when he completes his sentence … who knows. What we do know is that Mr. Wayne will be going away for a while to pay his debt to society … I suppose it’s a good thing that he’s man enough to pay for his mistakes.

Sen. Barack Obama pulls out of 'SNL' cameo
Michael Phelps Prepares For ‘Saturday Night Live’

Tonight is the night that 14-time Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps will make his comedic acting debut as he hosts the season premiere of Saturday Night Live live from NYC. It was previously reported that Senator Barack Obama would be making a cameo on tonight’s season premiere ep but due to the severity of Hurricane Ike (which is currently pounding the Southern portion of the country) he has decided to postpone his appearance out of respect for those dealing with the storm’s onslaught. A wise choice, I think. But, it’s full steam ahead for Phelpsie to take the hosting reigns for tonight’s show. Here is a screencap from a video that Access Hollywood posted online from Phelpsie‘s SNL rehearsals:

Michael Phelps steps out of his chlorinated comfort zone to host the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, treading the same stage where his comedy idol Chris Farley once got big laughs. The swimmer who won a record-setting eight gold medals at last month’s Olympics has been riding a pop culture wave since Beijing, making the rounds of the TV talk shows, presenting at MTV’s Video Music Awards and being gossiped about in the tabloids. Phelps follows in the athletic footsteps of such jocks as LeBron James, Peyton Manning, Derek Jeter and Michael Jordan, who also hosted NBC’s late-night sketch show. “I was a little nervous coming into this whole thing, but I’ve actually started to get really, really excited,” Phelps said Thursday on a conference call from New York. “I’m definitely looking forward to Saturday. This is a completely new experience for me, but something that is going to be pretty fun.” He hopes to connect by phone with Ashton Kutcher for some comedy tips, having met the actor’s wife, Demi Moore, at the VMAs, where she offered help. Hosting the show’s 34th season opener has made Phelps the envy of his friends. Swimming rival Ryan Lochte may be particularly jealous since the show’s musical guest is Lil’ Wayne, Lochte’s favorite rapper and someone Phelps likes, too. Among the sketches under consideration for the 90-minute show are ones involving his mother, Debbie, the skintight body suit he swims in, and his eight gold medals. “Anything you can imagine, they nailed just about every topic,” Phelps said of the show’s writers. He laughed at a suggestion that he’ll take off his shirt to reveal his rock-hard abs. “If it happens, it happens,” he said. “It’s all in good fun. I’m along for the ride.” Taking the stage alone for the opening monologue worries Phelps more than stepping on the starting block in China did. “I’m more nervous doing this than I was swimming in Beijing,” he said. “But after readthroughs, I started getting into it and started warming up. I felt completely confident today.” That doesn’t mean Phelps should leave his watery world for show biz, though. “There’s no question about him getting it and being funny and knowing what to do,” said Lorne Michaels, the show’s executive producer. “He’s certainly not going to be a professional sketch player, but I think he’ll do just fine. “No matter what happens they can’t take those medals away.”

Click HERE to watch the Access Hollywood video in full. Because Senator Obama was scheduled to make his cameo on the show tonight, NBC reportedly got Tina Fey to agree to appear with him playing the role of Sarah Palin. I understand that she may still make her cameo tonight (which I can’t wait to see … it will be BRILLIANT!). I am really looking forward to tonight’s season premiere ep … I am curious to see if Michael Phelps has got what it takes to pull off hosting duties on SNL. Do y’all think he can do it?
