Janet Jackson, who has been seen at various Milan Fashion Week events in Milan, Italy in the past week, made a special appearance at La Permanente to attend amfAR‘s Inaugural Milan Fashion Week Event to add her starpower to the drive to raise much needed funds for The Foundation for AIDS Research. Janet was joined on the red carpet by current Out magazine covergirl Donatella Versace but she graced the stage all on her own during the event … here are a few photos:

US singer Janet Jackson lent her star power to a gala charity in Milan that raised more than a million dollars for AIDS research, organisers said. “This battle needs all of us to be brave warriors,” Jackson said during a brief appearance at the Monday evening dinner and dance organised by the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR). The evening’s biggest sale was a Dsquared jacket signed by Janet Jackson and other celebrities, snapped up by Diesel designer Renzo Rossof for 36,000 euros (53,000 dollars). Earlier a pair of handmade boots decorated with some 3,000 stones, made for Michael Jackson but never worn by the late king of pop, went for 10,000 euros. He died June 25 aged 50.

Janet Jackson is a real trooper … it’s very commendable for her to lend her name to such an important cause. She’s had a difficult year and I’m sure her work has kept her grounded but it’s really amazing that she also is making time to do much needed charity work as well. Keep up the amazing work, Janet!!

Donatella Versace is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Out magazine. Clearly, Donatella knows who butters her bread (ie. the gays) so she finally decided to grace the cover of Out mag to explain to the world “What it takes to be Donatella Versace”. Out’s October issue shines the light on one of the most well-known and admired women in the fashion industry’s history, Donatella Versace. Gracing the cover alongside the new Versace man, Donatella goes on to discuss her take on American fashion, her inspirations and those who parody her seemingly outrageous life. Luckily, being in on the joke is part of her charm. Of Maya Rudolph’s now famous impersonation, Versace laughs, “I talked to her on the phone, Maya. I gave her suggestions on what to do about me.” Inside the issue, Versace articulates her own fashion sense and desire to show-off her sexiness to Out Editor in Chief Aaron Hicklin. “I always have to be sexy because I like to be sexy. Just for myself.” But when asked if there is such a thing as being too sexy, she quickly retorts, “Never, never! You can be too boring, but you can never be too sexy.” In addition to Hicklin’s electric interview with Versace, photographer Alexei Hay introduces us to Versace’s Fall/Winter 2009 Men’s collection, as well as the new Versace man.

I dunno why but I am wholly fascinated by Donatella Versace … but to be honest, I think I like her best when Maya Rudolph portrays her on Saturday Night Live. I imagine the real Donatella is interesting as well … but can’t be nearly as fun as she is portrayed on SNL. Yesterday we saw a few fairly sexy pics of aging fashion designer Giorgio Armani showing off what his mama gave him while rockin’ the speedo on the beaches of St. Bart’s this week and today we get to see a couple pics of another aging fashion designer, Donatella Versace, looking anything but sexy in her two-piece bikini as she vacays in St. Bart’s … the words “emaciated” and “leathery” come to mind … behold:

As one of the world’s top designers, Donatella Versace creates fashion, not follow it. But as the Italian designer approaches her mid-fifties, she appears to be have found inspiration for her over-tanned, wrinkly appearance. After showing off her gaunt, mahogany body on a Caribbean beach yesterday, Donatella is looking increasingly like ‘tanorexic’ pensioner Magda from the 1998 movie There’s Something About Mary.

Both Donatella and Magda have matching dark tans, wrinkled skin, bleach blonde hair and have a penchant for wearing full make-up in the sun. In the classic gross-out comedy, veteran actress Lin Shaye played the sun-obsessed next door neighbour of Cameron Diaz’s character Mary. In the movie, bleach-blonde Magda spends her day out drinking and tanning on the balcony holding a reflector under her chin to get the maximum exposure to the sun’s rays. Mother-of-two Donatella, 53, is currently spending the Christmas and New Year period on the island of St Barts. After what has been yet another busy year for the fashion designer, the stress of running one of the world’s top labels appears to be taking its toll on Donatella. As she walked along the beach in her purple string bikini, her skin seemed a leathery shade of brown, as it sagged around the knees, arms and stomach, suggesting she has lost weight recently.

Yeesh … any state of undress is not a good look for poor Donatella. I don’t really see the appeal of such a leathery looking tan. Yeah, I could really do without having to see any more photos of Ms. Versace on such display … where’s Giorgio Armani when you need him?

Cipriani Wall Street in NYC was the site of the 25th annual Night of Stars hosted by The Fashion Group International last night. Honoring celebs and dignitaries for achievements in fashion, beauty, architecture, entertainment AND humanitarianism, last night’s Night of Stars event brought out a Who’s Who of the celebrity elite. Here are a few pics from the arrivals last night:

Donatella Versace was honored as the “Superstar” of the evening and it looks like she attended last night’s event with Balthazar Getty (hmm … I wonder if Sienna Miller knows about this?). Jennifer Lopez looked utterly amazing in her Diva Latina finery and everyone else looked pissed off or really grouchy upon arrival. Marcia Gay Harden looked ready to whip someone’s ass … I hope folks were smart enough to not get on her bad side. Debra Messing was shutting it down last night. I mean it, she looked bananas in her black dress and her amazingly flat-ironed hair’do. Oh yeah, she killed it. Er … as a client of Rachel Zoe‘s, I felt it was necessary to get those catchphrases on the record. Yeah, I dunno if any of the honorees were worthy of whatever awards they were honored with last night but folks sure did look purdy at the event anyways.

Celebs of varying caliber in the acting, music and fashion world came out for a swanky night of hob-nobbing at the 2008 Whitney Museum of American Art Gala in NYC last night. Here are a few photos of some of the folks who made their way to the soiree in order to strut their stuff on the red carpet:

The theme for the gala was Whitney — Past, Present and Future which I assume was meant to refer to the artwork on display rather than the regular ol’ stuff we saw on the red carpet fashion-wise. Mariah Carey and her childhubby Nick Cannon made their way out to the Whitney affair last night lookin’ as mismatched as ever … tho not as mismatched a pair as Patrick Dempsey and Donatella Versace looked. Dr. McHotPants was lookin’ smokin’ in his Versace suit … Donatella just looked hungry. Christina Ricci made sure that her expensive dress was cut just so in order to show off her very classy tattoo and Juliette Lewis was most likely just there for the free drinks. Oh yeah. Sounds like a fun time in the Big Apple last night. Hurray for the Arts!
