Day 2 of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is already dunzo and, from what I understand, was plagued with a fair share of technical problems that ran the gamut from causing irritating sound issues from time to time to all out dead tech ruining entire performances … and, to be honest, these sorts of things are to be expected. I haven’t heard of any major issues affecting any of the big acts … in fact, I understand big players like Faith No More, Dead Weather, MGMT and Day 2 headliners Muse were in top form. Here are some photos from the Coachella stage at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA yesterday:

Right about now, funk-soul brothers and sisters, yours truly would spend the remaining wee hours to crank out a desert dispatch all about how bewitching the Dead Weather were just before midnight … or how infectious Hot Chip got … or how impressive it was that The xx’s skeletal yet seductive sound captivated far and wide instead of getting drowned out by chatter … or why MGMT’s popularity-shunning set (which didn’t include “Kids,” much to the disappointment of thousands of fans) was still a solid one (don’t tell Desert Jeff that; he thought it was an aloof bore) … or what marvelous joy there is in dancing to something as heavy, hyper-skilled and operatically melodious as Muse. It’s been a high quality night, for sure, thanks also to rich turns from Dirty Projectors, Devo, Corinne Bailey Rae, Aterciopelados, Major Lazer, Z-Trip and more. All of which you’ll hear about by the time Sunday’s festivities get underway. But it’s been a rougher-than-expected day, littered with innumerable bad-reception runs, more than a few failed batteries, and at least one post (D-Hall on Band of Skulls) that simply went missing. With Coachella running longer and later than ever before, and with our dozen or so team members operating on less sleep than you can catch during a screening of Woodstock, we’re just too collectively spent to carry on much time. Must … have … sleep.

Jay-Z may have got the party started Friday night but I hear that Muse really brought the heat (in their own way) last night. A lot more celebs popped up in the crowd yesterday — after the jump, see which celebs were in attendance at Coachella Day 2 …

Dita Von Teese, the reigning queen of burlesque, has returned to Las Vegas to begin a new residency in Sin City at MGM Grand’s Crazy Horse Paris nightclub. Last night, Dita put on her debut performance for this new residency and managed to class up the joint a bit in the process. MGM Grand’s Crazy Horse Paris is pleased to announce the return of burlesque artist and fashion icon Dita Von Teese to the famed Las Vegas cabaret stage after a sold-out engagement in April 2007. The first guest star of the famous cabaret, Von Teese will feature her new performance numbers that she developed especially for the Crazy Horse stage for her sold-out performances in Paris in early 2009. Von Teese will debut “Lazy,” a number featuring her and the Crazy Horse dancers, “Le Bain Noir,” a new take on her famous bathtub show she performed in Paris in 2006 and Las Vegas in 2007, and “Teese’ing,” her interpretation of the iconic Crazy Horse number “Teasing.” Shows will be at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. nightly from Wednesday, March 31 – Wednesday, April 7. The show will be dark Tuesday, April 6. Tickets for Von Teese’s performances are on sale and are available for a special performance price of $75, not including taxes and service fees. Meet and Greet packages include a pair of tickets and Meet and Greet passes for $125, not including taxes and service fees. Guests must be at least 18 years of age to attend the show. “I’m really excited about returning to the Crazy Horse stage in Las Vegas,” stated Von Teese. “Not just as the featured performer, but reconnecting with the dancers. I had so much fun working with them onstage. It’s a team, and we all have mutual respect and adoration for each other. I rarely perform in the U.S. and I’m excited for the American people to discover the brilliance of Crazy Horse.”

You may find this hard to believe but I am a huge fan of Dita Von Teese and her burlesque shows. I was lucky enough to see her perform in NYC a couple years ago (back when she was still with Marilyn Manson, actually, who was also at the show) and I was totally enraptured by her performance. Her show’s are sexy … not skeezy. Dita‘s performances are not X-rated … they are just … beautiful. After the jump, check out a few more photos from last night’s performance. Dita Von Teese, the modern queen of burlesque, is featured in a new batch of promo photos for Wonderbra which, IMHO, tastefully showcase the support undergarments in a tasteful and very sexy way. The implication is that wearing the Wonderbra will give you a rack like Dita, which I’m sure will go far in selling the undergarments far and wide. For someone who takes their clothes off for a living, it’s no surprise Dita Von Teese gets to create her own line of lingerie. She’s been hired by Wonderbra to recreate her unique look for the masses. And while many of us may be cutting back on life’s little luxuries in the current economic climate – the Queen of Burlesque is keen for us to embrace our seductive inner-self and splash out. Her latest collection is a combination of 1950s shapes and 1940s fabrics and is her first line of designed garments. Von Teese used her fascination with vintage underwear, taking inspiration from her own designs. The pieces include a mixture of suspenders, thongs and bras, which Von Teese says are so comfortable that she wears them regularly. She admits her current incarnation as the face of Wonderbra is a dream come true, “I’ve always wanted to do something with lingerie and it was important for the finished product to be something I would wear myself.” She has her detractors, after all, removing most of her clothes on stage means “a lot of people think that what I do is anti-feminist”, she admits. “But most of my fans are women and my whole thing has been about finding sexual power rather than abusing it.”

I’ve been a big fan of Dita Von Teese for years … she has carved out a niche that only she occupies and does what she does better than anyone else alive right now. While the woman may appear risque to some people, I’ve always contended that what she does she does with class and poise. Her burlesque act has never seemed dirty or pornographic to me at all. It is very rare that a woman can perform mostly nekkid and still keep a level of class that many dressed women don’t possess. I’m not sure if women who see these Wonderbra ads will really be inspired to buy but I personally think the photos are absolutely beautiful in and of themselves. Dita rules, y’all. I just love her.

Yesterday we got to see a few pics of rocker/painter Marilyn Manson‘s “special new lady friend” Isani Griffith lookin’ all Evan Rachel Wood tryin’ to look like all Dita Von Teese and today we get to see a few gorge pics of Ms. Dita herself. Here are a few photos of Dita Von Teese at the British Comedy Awards in London, England yesterday … because, now really, where else would a buxom burlesque pin-up model/performer be other than the British Comedy Awards?

When last we saw the lovely Dita Von Teese here on the blog, she was lookin’ spectacular on the cover of the new issue of German Playboy magazine. I gotta say, Dita is a beautiful woman (not girl) and MM was very lucky to have her in his life. While he is off playing with his latest new toy, Dita is doing her own thang like the classy lady that she is. It’s always so nice seeing her lookin’ so well.
