Art Imitating Life Imitating Art

The TV Guide
Monday, November 2nd, 2009

So … while Saturday evening/night was loads of fun, much of my Sunday was … well … not. I was totally hung over for most of the day which really wasn’t much fun at all but, in the end, was totally worth it. David and I talked a bit about mebbe going out at some point but that did not happen. I stayed in bed as much as I could … but I did get a lot of reading done and got to watch some TV:

It was really fun being Dexter for Hallowe’en and I am SO loving this new season of the Showtime series. Yesterday was a lazy/recuperation day but at least I was a bit productive ;)

No official plans for tonight … I’m hoping to get out of the house tonight tho … I’m really wanting to participate in a Dia de los Muertos festival somewhere … I’ve never been to one and always wanted to so … we’ll see. Hope your Monday is a happy one!

‘Dexter’ Season 4 Releases A New Promo Poster

Baby on Board
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

In June we got our first look at the promo artwork for the upcoming 4th season of the amazing Showtime series Dexter and last month we got our first look at the trailer video for the show which premieres on September 27. Today we get to check out a very cute new promo poster for Dexter which kinda encapsulates the tone of the coming season:

OMG … love this campaign! Dexter as a daddy is just too brills … however will he be able to fit in all those ritual slayings in between naptime and diaper changing? Making Dexter a new father is a great new plot development that can either make for a great season … or a not-so-great season. I’ve already made clear that I kinda didn’t love the last season with the meddlesome Jimmy Smits character but I really loved the 1st and 2nd seasons of the show so … I have high hopes season 4 will be just as good. September 27 can’t get here soon enough for me.

First Look: ‘Dexter’ Season 4

Unholy 'Trinity'
Saturday, July 25th, 2009

The amazing Showtime series Dexter is among the TV series’ that is taking advantage of the fandom at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend as principal castmembers of the show were on hand to discuss where the show about the serial killer with a heart is going into its upcoming 4th season. Here are a couple of the cute baby posters that have been released (these two are different from the one we saw previously back in June) to promote the upcoming new season (Dexter is a new daddy) along with our first look at video footage from season 4:

Let us count the ways Showtime is merchandising Dexter, its serial killer drama! As revealed at Comic-Con today, there will be animated “Dexter Early Cuts” on Showtime.com this fall, a special application for iPhones called “Dexter: The Game,” and (strange) action figures of all your favorite Dexter characters. “When I was shooting the pilot, I didn’t think it would come to this,” groused star Michael C. Hall during the show’s packed panel. But it’s the new killer that seems to have the cast most juiced for its Sept. 27 season premiere on Showtime: John Lithgow joins the action this season as the “Trinity” killer, aka “the most successful serial killer ever.” The thousands of Dexter fans who filled Ballroom 20 today got a sneak peek of Lithgow’s upcoming work, which, naturally, included a scene of him slitting the throat of a helpless brunette. Lithgow, who joined the panel along with the always charming Hall, among others, wouldn’t divulge much about his character. But he did joke that his first victim was “High Commander Dick Solomon”—his memorable character on the long-running sitcom Third Rock From the Sun. “This character has so many layers and colors,” he teased. Family and a new baby will figure significantly in the fourth season—the teaser included scenes of a sleep-deprived Dexter failing at his day job as a blood splatter expert—but Hall admitted it’s early yet to question whether the apple falls far from the tree. “The baby has yet to exhibit any signs,” Hall said. “It’s possibly there, lurking.”

I have to admit … I didn’t love the last season. The whole Jimmy Smits character really turned me off … the season picked up at the end so I’m hoping that the upcoming 4th season will carry on from there. Season 1 was amazing (who could forget the Ice Truck Killer who turned out to be Dexter’s long-lost brother!) as was Season 2 (psycho-beyotch Lila really made the show very, very interesting … as did the far too snoopy Sergeant James Doakes) … let’s just overlook season 3 and look forward to the introduction of John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer. Oh man … I can’t WAIT! And so, without further ado, let’s check out the NEW video trailer for the upcoming 4th season of Dexter after the jump …

‘Dexter’ Season 4 Releases A New Promo Photo

Father's Day
Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Fans of the incredible Showtime series Dexter should know by now that the show’s main character, Dexter Morgan, will be a newly married father (in addition to being his usual serial killer self) when the 4th season of the series premieres this Fall. Production on the new season is well underway and the show is scheduled to premiere on Showtime on September 27 … but today we get our first look at the first promo photo released for the upcoming new season of Dexter. Be Warned! The following article contains spoilers for Dexter Season 4:

The first promotional picture for “Dexter” season 4 has been released by Showtime. Showing a picture of a baby with the drool bib saying “My Dad Is Killer”, the picture represents the parenthood phase which will be faced by Dexter and Rita in the new season. Production for the fourth season is kicked off this month with the premiere date slated for September 27. Apart from the fourth season, Showtime has also ordered for the fifth one which will again consist of 12 episodes. This Fall, Dexter will be dealing a lot with his neighbors and a new deadly serial killer who is dubbed Trinity Killer because he has the proclivity to slaughter in threes. John Lithgow will take the role of Trinity whose alter ego is Walter Simmons. Meanwhile actress Courtney Ford is a reporter curious of the murders conducted by Trinity.

I am very, very excited that John Lithgow has joined the cast of Dexter. He has a creepy vibe about him that makes him the perfect choice to play a serial killer on the show. To be honest, I’m only marginally interested in the new development of Dexter as a husband and father. We’ve already seen the way he interacts with his now wife Rita (Julie Benz) and her children. I guess throwing a baby into the mix is meant to change things up a bit but … I’m really all about the complexities of Dexter as a good-guy serial killer. I have full faith, tho, that Dexter will continue to rule when the new season premieres in September. It is truly one of my fave TV shows and is prolly my fave cable TV series of all.

‘Dexter’s Jennifer Carpenter Sweats It Out In Spain

It's the pits
Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Newlyweds and Dexter co-stars Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall have made their way to Madrid to do some promo work for the new season of their show to air in Spain and appeared in person at a press gathering yesterday afternoon. I can only assume that either A.) it’s really hot in Spain right now or B.) Jennifer failed to pack her antiperspirant for her trip to Madrid because, as is plainly evident in these photos, the poor dear embarrassingly sweat thru her shirt and showed off a pair of massively moist pit stains:

Truth be told, if I were standing that close to hottie Michael C. Hall, I might sweat thru my clothes too … but she’s married to him so that cannot be the reason. Fans of Dexter might know that this is TOTALLY something that Jennifer Carpenter’s Dexter character, Deb Morgan, might do if she were forced to appear in front of a galley of press folks (then she’d cuss up a swear-storm afterward) … perhaps Ms. Carpenter was just really in character at yesterday’s appearance? In any event, I love Dexter, I love Michael C. Hall and I love Jennifer Carpenter … pit stains and all.

PS: I’d like to dedicate THIS song to Jennifer Carpenter.

So Dork The ‘Con’ Of Man

San Diego Comic Con is a wrap
Monday, July 28th, 2008

And so … another San Diego Comic Con has come to pass … and as usual, I was out of the country and unable to attend — but there are a lot of fun pictures to check out that will kinda sorta make it feel like I’m part of the experience but, you know, without having to actually endure all the ridiculous costumery in person ;) Here are a few pics of some of the more zealous Comic Con attendees this year:

And here are a few pics of some of the principal stars of the NBC hit Heroes who attended the Con this year to promote the upcoming third season of the show:

Honestly, there are just too many things that were presented at this year’s Con that I can’t possibly post them all … but Entertainment Weekly was in the hiz taking photos of some of my fave sci-fi/comic booky things at this year’s convention to give a nice overview. After the jump, check out a few EW photos of some of my fave things that I would’ve checked out had I attended this year’s Comic Con
