The PaleyFest 2010 Presents ‘Dexter’

Live and in person
Friday, March 5th, 2010

The Paley Center for Media here in Los Angeles hosted a special night of their annual PaleyFest in honor of the amazing Showtime series Dexter last night. Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Julie Benz and more came out to the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, CA to participate in the on-stage panel last night and everyone was lookin’ fine. Here is a group shot of the Dexter stars who came out for the PaleyFest event last night and some POSSIBLY SPOILERY deets from their discussion … read on at your own peril:

Is it September yet? With six months standing between now and the season five premiere of Dexter, I tried to pry some serious scoop out of Michael C. Hall, Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter and the rest of the gang—begging didn’t work, and neither did bribing!—and while they were tightlipped, I did manage to learn a thing or two about what’s to come while moderating the show panel at Paley Fest Thursday night. We also learned how Michael’s health is now, and watched him and his real-life wife Jennifer answer a question about their marriage for the first time. Spoiler Alert! If you have still haven’t seen the Dexter season four finale, please look no further. All of what you’ll see after the jump will definitely ruin it for you. Here are the highlights you Dexter fans need to know …

After the jump, read some of the spoilery deets that were discussed last night (courtesy of E!) and see a bunch of really fun photos of the individual castmembers in attendance last night …

My Top Movies & TV Shows Of 2009

The TV Guide
Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Yesterday I posted lists of my Fave Music of ‘09 and today I present lists of my Fave Movies and TV shows of 2009. I had a hard time narrowing down my lists for both movies and TV but, in the end, I think I got the list right … at least for me :) Here are my Top 10 Fave Movies of 2009:

At #10 is Avatar:

This movie, in IMAX 3D, was an amazingly beautiful sight to see. I’ll admit that the story (not at all unique) wasn’t the best ever but the storytelling coupled with the amazing special effects makes this movie worthy of inclusion on any Top 10 List for 2009. It was said that Avatar would change the way we watch movies in theaters FOREVER … and while I wouldn’t exactly agree, I will say that James Cameron’s 15 years devoted to the making of this film were well spent. Avatar may not be a game changer but it very well may be a movie that we look back in years to come as a masterful modern fairytale.

At #9 is Moon:

This movie was all story. While it was cool to look at, the real draw here was the story and acting performance by Sam Rockwell. For most of the film, he acted opposite himself … and he did so very, very well. This movie was not really seen by a lot of people but I think those that did see did really enjoy it … I know I did.

At #8 is The September Issue:

This movie may have been called the “real-life Devil Wears Prada” but it was so much more than that. It was a really intriguing look into what it takes to publish the singly most important magazine issue in the world of Fashion. I loved seeing Vogue Editor In Chief Anna Wintour in action in this film but the real star of The September Issue is Vogue Creative Director Grace Coddington. This film prolly wasn’t very interesting to folks not interested in Fashion but I loved it immensely.

At #7 is Taken:

Taken was prolly the biggest surprise for me this year. The film was released in France early in 2008 and then in the UK in Fall 2008. It wasn’t released in the US until January of 2009 and without much fanfare. I think I went to see it on a fluke and I was totally blown away by how fun the film was. Liam Neeson, action star. It was kind of like a Bourne Identity film but with an older, more mature hero. When I sat down to compile this list, I knew Taken would be on it because it’s one of the films that I really remember enjoying this year.

At #6 is Drag Me to Hell:

Okay, I take it back … Taken was not the biggest surprise for me this year, Drag Me to Hell was — for sure! I distinctly remember laughing out loud the first time I saw the trailer for Hell. It looked stupid and I had no plans to waste my time … then word of mouth started going around and people I trusted said that they loved it. I checked it out and, wouldn’t you know it, I loved it too! The movie wasn’t trying to be anything other than what it is … a jump in your seat, fun, horror flick. It’s a lot of fun.

Early this morning I had the extreme fortune to interview the amazing Julie Benz about the events that transpired on the season 4 finale episode of Dexter which aired last Sunday:

‘Dexter’ Season 4 Ends With A SHOCKING Final Twist

ATTENTION: SPOILER ALERT WARNING
Monday, December 14th, 2009

Last night Showtime aired the season 4 finale of my #1 fave show Dexter and ended the season in such a shocking way that I was left literally speechless for a good 10 mins. after the ep had ended … and have been haunted by the final scene ever since. As a longtime fan of the show, I felt I was pretty prepared for any plot development the show had to offer … I was sorely wrong:

In order to NOT spoil the final twist in last night’s finale ep for those of you who have yet to see it, I’ll keep the reveal behind the cut. I will say, tho, that the writers and producers of Dexter truly outdid themselves and gave fans an ending that they won’t soon forget … I’m still thinking about it now. After the jump, find out what happened on the season 4 finale of Dexter

‘Apples’ Pickin’

The TV Guide
Monday, December 7th, 2009

Despite the onset of a bit of chilly weather (can you believe daytime highs only got into the low 60’s?!), I managed to venture out and enjoy the day with a bunch of great friends. David and I planned to go bike riding on the beach but he was, unfortch, not feeling too well so he ended up staying inside all day long. I met up with my good friend Darion for brunch at Urth Cafe in West Hollywood, CA and then we did a bit of shopping on Melrose afterward. Then I returned home to watch last night’s amazing episode of Dexter before I ventured out to Rob and Tam’s place for a hastily thrown-together game night with Ollie and Caleb:

The bunch of us planned on enjoying a dinner out but that fell apart so we decided to play games instead. The big game of the night was Apples to Apples which was a lot of fun. As much as I love Caleb and want to congratulate him on winning, I totally know that I would’ve won if he hadn’t cheated :) But, again, we had a blast!!

Tonight, Jordan and I are heading out to see Morrissey in concert!! I’m so excited … it’s been ages since I’ve seen Moz in concert. I’m really looking forward to see him. Hopefully I’ll have some fun pics to share.

Oh yeah … it’s raining here in LA today … people think it’s the end of the world. It’s all good … I haven’t seen rain here since last February so … it’s nice ;)

Art Imitating Life Imitating Art

The TV Guide
Monday, November 2nd, 2009

So … while Saturday evening/night was loads of fun, much of my Sunday was … well … not. I was totally hung over for most of the day which really wasn’t much fun at all but, in the end, was totally worth it. David and I talked a bit about mebbe going out at some point but that did not happen. I stayed in bed as much as I could … but I did get a lot of reading done and got to watch some TV:

It was really fun being Dexter for Hallowe’en and I am SO loving this new season of the Showtime series. Yesterday was a lazy/recuperation day but at least I was a bit productive ;)

No official plans for tonight … I’m hoping to get out of the house tonight tho … I’m really wanting to participate in a Dia de los Muertos festival somewhere … I’ve never been to one and always wanted to so … we’ll see. Hope your Monday is a happy one!

‘Dexter’ Season 4 Releases A New Promo Poster

Baby on Board
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

In June we got our first look at the promo artwork for the upcoming 4th season of the amazing Showtime series Dexter and last month we got our first look at the trailer video for the show which premieres on September 27. Today we get to check out a very cute new promo poster for Dexter which kinda encapsulates the tone of the coming season:

OMG … love this campaign! Dexter as a daddy is just too brills … however will he be able to fit in all those ritual slayings in between naptime and diaper changing? Making Dexter a new father is a great new plot development that can either make for a great season … or a not-so-great season. I’ve already made clear that I kinda didn’t love the last season with the meddlesome Jimmy Smits character but I really loved the 1st and 2nd seasons of the show so … I have high hopes season 4 will be just as good. September 27 can’t get here soon enough for me.
