Crêpes & Art & Wings, Oh My!

Yesterday was a really fun day in Detroit, MI. Because David doesn’t get to The DTM very often, Sarah and I decided that we want to show him how amazing Detroit Rock City is so yesterday was Day 1 of our campaign. We started out the day grabbing lunch at the amazing crêperie Good Girls Go To Paris:

Now I’m not a huge fan of savory crêpes (ie. with meat, etc.) but these crêpes are AMAZING. I enjoyed one with roast beef, brie and cranberries … it was TO DIE FOR! We all shared a sweet crêpe for dessert with granny smith apples, caramel, brown sugar and fresh whipped creme. Seriously, to die. Detroiters, get your ass to Good Girls Go To Paris, I swear you will LOVE it there :)

After we supped almost to death, we made our way to the Detroit Institute of Art then we made our way to Joe Louis Arena to watch the Detroit Red Wings take on the LA Kings. Check out some fun photos after the jump …

There’s Always Next Year

It is with a heavy heart and much sadness that I must report that my beloved Detroit Red Wings were unsuccessful in their bid to win the 2009 Stanley Cup. Altho Game 7 was played at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI, the Wings were unable to pull out the victory last night …

… that said, I am very proud of the Wings this year. They played an amazing season, provided countless hours of fun sports entertainment and did Detroit very proud, once again, this year. Congrats goes to the Pittsburgh Penguins on their win. If you are able to win Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit Rock City then you absolutely deserve the Stanley Cup. Props to my hockey buddy Dino for keeping me sane thru the finals this year. All of my love and respect goes out to the Wings, tho. I am very much looking forward to next season already.

And now that hockey season is over, I can focus my attention on the Los Angeles Lakers:

I’m not a big basketball fan but I have adopted the Lakers as my bball team since I’ve been living here in SoCal. Game 5 of the NBA Final takes place here in Orlando, FL tomorrow night … here’s hoping they can pull out the win and give me something sporty to celebrate ;)

David and I are seeing the sneak preview of The Proposal tonight. Altho the movie doesn’t open in theaters until next weekend, check the theaters in your town to find out which one is showing the movie tonight if you wanna see it early.

The Stanley Cup Final Goes To Game 7

So … Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final was played in Pittsburgh, PA last night and, well, there will be a Game 7 in Detroit, MI on Friday. I personally would’ve preferred that the matter would’ve been settled last night but it looks like the Stanley Cup will be won in Detroit on Friday night:

I met up with my buds Dino, Russ and their friend Greg to watch the game last night … we had a lot of fun even tho the outcome wasn’t quite what we were hoping for. I’m really rootin’ for the Wings to settle the matter once and for all on home ice at the Joe Louis Arena. I’m just hoping the anxious stress of the next few days doesn’t kill me in the meantime ;)

No big plans for today … tho, I suspect I’ll be making my way down to Long Beach for a happy meal :)

All American Guys In The Flesh

Last night was a pretty fun night here in SoCal. David, Darion, Steph, Alek and I got to hang out and party with the men of All American Guys in celebration of their 10 year anniversary … but before that party got started, I was able to watch the mighty Detroit Red Wings SLAUGHTER the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. The Wings played the Penguins at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI and just eviscerated the poor chaps from Pittsburgh … they won the game by a score of 5-0:

While the Red Wings played an amazing game of hockey, the Penguins just fell apart thruout the entire game. The Red Wings are just one game away from winning the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row. I seem to recall that the Wings won the Cup last year in the 2008 Stanley Cup Final in Pittsburgh, PA. I have a feeling that history is going to repeat itself again this year :) Go Wings!!

As soon as the game was finished (and the Penguins were put out of their misery), David and I met up with the guys for a pre-party get together at the Mondrian Hotel were we got to hang out with all of the models. Yes, it was tough work … let me tell you. After a quick bite to eat at Fat Fish, we made our way to Eleven for the festivities:

The party was just really fun … much love goes out to Chris Westcott and Michael A. Downs for taking such good care of us thruout the night. The party was fun and sexy and a great time was had by all. By the night’s end, a hot model named Mike was crowned the newest All American Guy … look for him to be a future Hot Dude of the Week :) Thanks and love goes out to Alek and Steph from OhLaLaMag.com and Darion for sharing all of their fun photos. Twas fun, twas fun.

This afternoon, David and I are heading out for a birthday celebration for our dear friend Adriana and I think we’re planning on seeing a movie later on tonight. The sun is finally shining here in SoCal … it’s gonna be a beautiful day.

The Detroit Red Wings Win Game 1 Of The Stanley Cup Finals

Yesterday was a pretty damn fun day here in Detroit, MI and I am so happy that I was able to be home to enjoy it. Our day started out with a visit to the statue of The Spirit of Detroit in downtown Detroit, which was all decked out in his Red Wings hockey jersey:

Then Sarah, Mark, David and I enjoyed late lunch/early dinner at Pegasus in Greek Town before Mark and I had the great privilege to attend Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals at the Joe Louis Arena. The Detroit Red Wings hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins and ended up pulling out a solid 3-1 victory to lead the Stanley Cup Finals series 1-0. Here are a few of the photos I was able to snap at the game yesterday:

I was really bummed that Twitter was “down for maintenance” for most of the game cuz I wasn’t able to post updates along the way. But, Mark and I had an amazing time at the game. I totally knew the Red Wings were gonna win … this never happens to me but I was sure the final score was gonna be 3-1. Being inside the Joe Louis Arena for any hockey game is a thrill … for a Stanley Cup Finals game, it was magic. I will say there was a pretty good sized contingent of Penguins fans in the hiz last night and they were, for the most part, respectful. But once the game was won by the Wings, they were pretty much invisible. Detroit erupted in celebration … it was really awesome to be a part of it.

After the game, Mark and I made our way to Connie & Jess’s place for a wine party they were hosting:

The eats and the drinks were phenominal. It was great getting to see Mike G. and Ben last night. We had so much fun … the celebratory mood did not stop. I’m not even sure what time we got home last night … ’twas fun, ’twas fun.

Today the four of us are heading out to The DTE Energy Center Pine Knob to see Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction in concert. This is my last NIN/JA 2009 show of the tour … so I’m hopin’ it’s a goodie :) Also, Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals is tonight … here’s hopin’ there will be more celebratin’ in Detroit tonight!

Happy To Be In HockeyTown

Much of yesterday was spent on a plane from LA to Detroit but David and I made the most of it. I was able to watch the entire original miniseries, V from 1983 on my iPhone and was pleasantly reminded how amazing it really was:

I was only 9 years old when the original miniseries aired on TV and I remember loving every second of it. It scared the hell out of me but also really entertained. Even the limited special effects of the early 80′s cannot diminish this great story. I had forgotten how V was the first time I learned about the Jewish holocaust … watching it again after all these years, I was still moved by the brave Jewish characters in this miniseries. While the overall story is about alien invasion, at the heart of the tale is the struggle for freedom. Not to sound hokey but I did learn a lot of lessons from V when it aired back in 1983. I’m planning on watching V: The Final Battle on the plane ride home. Now, I’m even more anxious to see what the new version of V, scheduled to air on ABC sometime next season, will look like.

Upon our arrival, Sarah and Mark picked us up and we made our way to Little Tree in Royal Oak for dinner … and then we decided to swing by my old haunt City Club for a drink and a dance. While the place is not nearly as crowded as it used to be in its hey day, it was still very fun going “home” again. I love that place. I’m glad we had the chance to visit.

TONIGHT … is the big night. Mark and I are going to the Joe Louis Arena for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals where the Detroit Red Wings will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins for the Stanley Cup:

This is the same match-up as the Stanley Cup Finals from last year … I’m really hoping that Detroit is able to pull out a win again just like they did last year :) Go Wings!!! After the game, we’re meeting up with friends at Connie and Jess’s for a little wine party soiree … I can’t wait!! It’s really great being back home in Detroit Rock City.

The Detroit Red Wings Win The 2009 Western Conference Championship

After putting up a valiant effort in Game 5 of the Western Conference Championship, the Chicago Blackhawks fell to the mighty Detroit Red Wings by a score of 2-1 in OT last night. As a result, the Detroit Red Wings have advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals where they will face the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2009 Stanley Cup. Here are a few celebratory pics from last night’s game:

I met up with my buds Dino and Russ at Barney’s Beanery so that we could watch the game together … I was happily surprised to see a sizable contingent of Red Wings fans decided to do the same. We all cheered together (stressed overtime together) and celebrated together when the Wings finally finished off the Blackhawks. A lot of yesterday’s luck came from Dino’s red hockey jersey … we Wings fans owe him many thanks :) Watching the game with those two really made the whole experience much more fun.

But next up, the Stanley Cup Finals!! Tickets went on sale for Game 1 of the Finals (which start in Detroit at the hallowed Joe Louis Arena) and I secured two tix so that Mark and I can go. David and I land in Detroit Friday night and we’ll be heading out for the game Sat night (then NIN Sunday night, etc.) I’m really looking forward to seeing my friends and family on this trip … but Lawd is our schedule packed. I’m hoping to have much to celebrate and enjoy while I am home next week ;) Go Wings!!

Slaughter In Chicago, ‘Salvation’ In The Future

Most of yesterday was spent in a middle seat on an airplane flying from NYC to LA but thankfully because the plane was equipped with Satellite TV, I was able to watch Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Western Conference Championship playoffs that pitted the Detroit Red Wings against the Chicago Blackhawks in Chicago, IL live as the game happened. I had a pretty good feeling after the first goal that the Red Wings scored that it was gonna be a good game … little did I know that Detroit would go on to crush the Chicago by a score of 6-1:

Chicago is a great team but they are very young and their youthful exuberance and inexperience did not serve them well in yesterday’s game. As the Wings continued to score, they continued to implode. That Chicago coach Quenneville tried to blame his team’s horrible loss on one bad call against his team, saying that it was “the worst call in the history of sports today” and that “[The officials] ruined a good hockey game. They absolutely destroyed what was going on on the ice and whatever happened after that”, tells me that he is also inexperienced in leading teams to victory (despite what his record may be, bitching about one bad call leading to a 6-1 loss is pretty lame). Detroit stayed steady, kept applying the pressure and played like a Stanley Cup champion team. I am SO happy that I was able to watch the game for myself … there is no way that any recap of the game could’ve done it justice. Game 5 takes place at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI on Wednesday night … here’s hoping the Wings finish off the Blackhawks and get about their biz of retaining the Stanley Cup :)

David and I got home to LA early enough that we could unwind and still go out … we decided to check out Terminator: Salvation:

While I liked the film, I far from loved it. It’s a loud, action-packed time at the movies but all the plotholes drove me crazy. Some of it didn’t make sense and a lot of what transpired wasn’t really explained at all. In the end, it left me a bit unsatisfied … but only because the story wasn’t really fleshed out the way that it really needed to be. There were a lot of fun shout-outs to the previous movies — the famed I’ll be back line was uttered, Guns N Roses‘s song You Could Be Mine from T2: Judgment Day made a cameo as did the voice of Linda Hamilton (the original Sarah Connor). Arnold Schwarzenegger also *kinda* makes a cameo … but not really (you’ll have to see it to understand what I mean). The movie really tries and I am happy to suggest that fans of Terminator see it but it’s not one of those movies that I would need to see more than once.

No plans for today. Which is totally fine by me. Happy Day, y’all!!

Air America

So, I spent most of yesterday on a plane from Las Vegas to NYC but before we took off, we were allowed to hang out for a short bit in one of the penthouses at the Palms Place Hotel and Spa … man, what a view:

Because the property is off the strip, you get a view of the entire strip … it’s pretty phat! Of course, a place like that is only a dream for David and me but it was very cool to be able to pretend for a little while. Our time at Palms Place was really very cool (albeit, way too short). I hope we’ll get to go back again.

I was THRILLED that our Virgin America flight was wifi-equipped. Unfortch, Virgin America offers none of the network TV channels but I was able to follow Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Western Conference Championship between the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks on my mobile phone. I was happily tweeting all the while … and Detroit ended up beating Chicago in overtime by 3-2:

They now lead the series 2-0. The next two games will be in Chicago, if Detroit wins those then they are headed for the Stanley Cup Championship. Go Wings!!

David and I arrived in NYC late last night but I was able to pre-order a pizza delivery while we were in the air (on my phone, which I also used to make Skype phone calls … wifi flying is the bomb) and we supped on amazing NYC pizza before bed. The weather here is insanely beautiful. We are very much looking forward to our stay. Tonight, we are attending the LOGO NewNowNext Awards … as you may recall, Pink is the new Blog is sponsoring the award for Ruining Pop Culture. I can’t wait to find out who wins ;)

Game 7th Heaven

Yesterday afternoon I had to leave the safe confines of my home to get a bit of a haircut but I raced right back home to watch Game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoff series which pitted the Detroit Red Wings against the Anaheim Ducks at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI. Altho I was a stressed out mess for most of the game, I was thrilled that Detroit was able to pull off the win at home and finish off the Mighty Ducks once and for all (click HERE to watch the game winning goal hit the net). My good friend Mark was able to attend yesterday’s Game 7 at the JLA and he sent me this great photo from the arena:

No word on if Mark was responsible for any of the octopi that were flung onto the ice during yesterday’s game. While I wish I could’ve been there myself, I’m glad that Mark was able to represent for me instead. It turns out that one of the Red Wings vs. the Chicago Blackhawks Detroit games will take place when I’m there early next month … I’m gonna see if I can get tix for Mark and me to go together :)

After the game was finished, David and I went out to Baby Blues BBQ in WeHo for a celebratory dinner (on the advice of my homie Dino) and we ran into Pink readers Cheryl and Angel. It was my pleasure meeting them both.

The rest of the night was spent watching the ol’ tele. Twas a fine night, a fine night indeed!!
