‘Dark Shadows’ Releases New Promo Photos

Back in September we got our first look at actor Johnny Depp in character as Barnabas Collins on the UK set of the upcoming Tim Burton-directed remake of Dark Shadows. Later that same month, we got to see the first official promo photos from Dark Shadows HERE and HERE. Today we get to check out a couple new photos from the film in an effort for us to get used to Depp as the ancient vampire. I have to say, I’m having a bit of difficulty with Depp and Burton‘s version of Barnabas Collins but … I am still very excited for the big screen adaptation. Check out the promo images below.

More Photos From The Set Of ‘Dark Shadows’ Hit The Internets

Last week Entertainment Weekly magazine gave us our first official look at the new Tim Burton-directed reboot of Dark Shadows but this week, Empire magazine bring us our second look from the set. As you can see in the photos below, Burton has created his own Dark Shadows world and IMHO, it look pretty sweet. While I think Johnny Depp will make a fantastic Barnabas Collins, I am really excited that Michelle Pfeiffer is in this film as well. Check out the photos below and read some deets from the film set.

‘Entertainment Weekly’ Gives Us Our First Official Look At ‘Dark Shadows’

Last week we got our very first look at the new Dark Shadows film — directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp — when the first photos from the UK set hit the Internets. Today we get our first official look at the film courtesy of Entertainment Weekly magazine. In this week’s issue, EW brings us the first promo photo of the principle cast. Altho the cast looks a WEE bit Addams Family, I am totally digging the over-the-top gothness of the Collins fam. Check out the photo below.

In May of this year, we learned that Dark Shadows would hit theaters in May of 2012. Today we get our first look at Johnny Depp in character as vampire Barnabas Collins on the UK set of the film! The ‘Dark Shadows’ Remake Gets A Release Date

Back in December of 2009, we learned that Johnny Depp was planning to begin filming the feature film remake (directed by Tim Burton) of the 1960′s TV series Dark Shadows sometime in the Fall of 2010. 2010 came and went and Dark Shadows did NOT go into production. BUT, I have very good news to pass along today about the film’s release … May 11, 2012 has been set as the release date for the Dark Shadows movie … oh yeah, and filming production has already gotten underway in London!

Will begin filming 'Dark Shadow's next year!
Johnny Depp Makes His Way To Japan

Johnny Depp, everyone’s favorite Pirate of the Caribbean and soon to be everyone’s fave gothic vampire, was spotted making a grand arrival at Narita International Airport in Japan today lookin’ a bit like the long-lost son of Carmen Sandiego:

No word on what brings Johnny to the Land of the Rising Sun but there is news on his next movie project with movie director Tim Burton. According to producer Graham King, Burton and Depp will begin filming the movie adaptation of the 60′s daytime horror drama Dark Shadows in Fall 2010:

Forget Team Edward and Team Jacob. We’ve heard that director Tim Burton and star Johnny Depp are making a feature film version of the classic 1960s gothic TV soap opera Dark Shadows, and producer Graham King now confirms that the film will shoot in the fall, with Depp to play broody vampire Barnabas Collins. “We’re actually going to shoot that film next September/October with Tim Burton and Johnny,” King said in a group interview Friday in Los Angeles, where he was promoting The Young Victoria. Burton is still finishing post-production on Alice in Wonderland, which also stars Depp and opens March 5, 2010. King is already prepping production on Dark Shadows with screenwriters so that it is ready for Burton to shoot next fall. “We’ve been working on the script a lot, even though he’s working on Alice,” King continued. “We’ve been given a script. John August wrote the first screenplay. We’re making some changes, but the film’s going to be in production, as I say, September or October of next year.” Dark Shadows was a daytime soap opera on ABC from 1966 to 1971 featuring Jonathan Frid as Collins. NBC tried a weekly prime-time series reboot in 1991. The original was famous for its gothic tone and setting. King said the Dark Shadows film would have something to say in the post-Twilight world of emo vampires, but wouldn’t spoil the new take. “This is going to be Tim Burton and Johnny doing a vampire movie, right?” King teased. Enough said.

I am SOOOO on board with a big screen adaptation of Dark Shadows being directed by Tim Burton, you have no idea. It would seem that Johnny Depp will play the lead in pretty much every single movie Tim Burton directs for the rest of his life, I think he will make an excellent Barnabas Collins. This is very exciting news. I can’t wait to hear more about this production!!

Who Needs Edward Cullen When You Can Have Barnabas Collins?

Yesterday was a very nice and quiet day around here … altho I had to run out to take care of a few errands yesterday afternoon, David and I spent most of the evening together here at home. Over the weekend, I got caught up in a marathon of the 1991 revival of the classic “horror soap opera” Dark Shadows on Chiller. Dark Shadows was a daily serial that aired in the 1960′s about the cursed Collins family in Massachusetts. My mom was a big fan of the series (which is how I heard about it originally) and was thrilled when the show was revamped in the early ’90′s. Dark Shadows ’91 was a pretty big hit for NBC when it aired but due to the Gulf War, the miniseries was constantly preempted … and then eventually canceled. I hadn’t seen the series since 1991 and ended up missing the last 3 eps. I watched 8 eps on Chiller over the weekend and then, thankfully, found out that the rest of the eps are available on Hulu.com

I know that everyone is all ga-ga over Twilight, True Blood and the forthcoming Vampire Diaries but Dark Shadows was a pretty damn good series itself. It’s unfortunate the ’91 version couldn’t live longer than half a season cuz the original ran for years. If any of y’all are interested in fun vampire drama, I highly suggest you check it out. Those of you who remember the series and want a second look can head over to Hulu to watch all the eps in HD :)

Not sure what’s going on tonight … I really want to see Up but David is really lukewarm on the idea … we’ll see. I just picked up the newly published J.R.R. Tolkein book The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun which is his version of the Norse Poetic Edda. I am desperate to start reading it, which I’ll get started tonight if we stay in. Ah … tough choices, right? Believe me … the simple pleasures in life are to be appreciated.
