Not as awkwardly painful to watch
Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning Talk Rock & Roll And ‘The Runaways’

Yesterday we watched a (painful to watch due to extreme awkwardness) short video of Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart participating in a Q&A session after the Sundance Film Festival screening of their film The Runways and today we get to watch another video interview with the ladies. Thankfully, this vid is not as painful to watch … tho, K. Stew still seems a bit jittery in the clip:

This clip was filmed backstage, out of sight of the huge audience … perhaps that had a calming effect on Kristen‘s speech. After the jump, check out the clip and see for yourselves …

Painful Expression
Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart Participate In A Sundance Q&A

As we all should know by now, The Runways biopic debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this past Sunday night but today we learn that principal stars Kristen Stewart (who plays Joan Jett) and Dakota Fanning (who plays Cherie Currie) participated in a short Q&A with fans and reporters after the film’s Sundance premiere and we get to watch a short video clip from it:

I must warn you, tho, K. Stew‘s painfully obvious uncomfortableness with public speaking makes it very difficult to watch this video clip without your wanting to cringe every other second. Her fidgety demeanor and odd manner really makes it truly painful to watch … which is exactly why you gotta watch. Check it out after the jump …

At last
‘The Runaways’ Premieres At The Sundance Film Festival

Last night The Sundance Film Festival hosted the world premiere screening of the new biopic The Runaways at the Eccles Center Theatre in Park City, UT. As I mentioned yesterday, actresses Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning were joined by director Floria Sigismondi at last night’s premiere. In attendance as well were original Runaways bandmembers Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals along with a review of the film from Entertainment Weekly magazine:

The most entertaining thing about the movie is that its writer-director, music-video veteran Floria Sigismondi (making her feature debut), has a sixth sense for how the Runaways were an image first and a rock & roll band second. Early on, we see Stewart’s black-shag-haired Joan in an L.A. boutique, where she has to coerce the sales woman into selling her a man’s studded biker jacket, which she wears as if born to it. Stewart’s no-frills, casually likable performance begins with Jett’s distinctive tough-girl saunter — which is to say, the actress knows just how to walk like a skinny dude. At the same time, we meet Cherie Currie (first name pronounced Sher-ee), who chops her platinum-blonde mane into a David Bowie shag, paints on the facial lightning streak from his Aladdin Sane cover, and lip-syncs to him at a high school talent show, which results in her being pelted with wads of paper. These girls, it’s clear, have their underground fashion bona fides down. But it takes Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), the noted record producer who becomes their psycho Svengali, to teach them how to rock out like boys. Fowley, who favors red-leather jackets and dog collars the size of tiaras, is a hyped-up hustler-manipulator who looks like a punk Frankenstein and shouts everything as if in mid-tantrum. He’s a ruthless creep, a kind of jadedly oversexed type-A head case, but he knows what sells. He finds Cherie in a nightclub, immediately placing her in the band as if he were casting a porno film. The fact that she’s only 15 is, to him, icing on the bad-girl cake.

The EW review continues after the jump …

My little 'Runaways'
Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning Invade The Sundance Film Festival

The much-anticipated biopic The Runaways makes its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT tonight but actresses Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning have made their way to Park City ahead of time to partake of the various film festival events and to begin promoing for their film. Kristen gave a brief interview to E! News at the Sundance premiere of the film Welcome to the Rileys (a film that K. Stew also appears in as the character Mallory) and posed for a few portraits with her Runaways co-star (Fanning) and director Floria Sigismondi:

We had the pleasure of interviewing one of our fave girls on the planet, Kristen Stewart, earlier today at the Sundance premiere of her film Welcome to the Rileys. K.Stew looked Park City chic, bundled in a green jacket with her dark Joan Jett hair loosely pulled back, and was eager to talk about one of the roles she claimed to be most proud of. In WTTR, Kristen plays a “working girl,” as she prefers to say, making it clear to her fans out there she’s not just Bella Swan from Twilight.

Everyone is raving about your performance—how did you prepare for this particular, shall we say, slightly more risqué role?
“Umm, Jake [Scott, the director] had a lot to do with my preparation and understanding of the type of person I was playing, and his serious regard of sensitivity towards those people. I play a girl who has sort of been stripped of any choice and really stripped of any normal upbringing. Like she couldn’t establish who she was because of things that have happened to her and she became a ‘working girl,’ if you want to call it that. So in preparing for the role I talked to a lot of people, actually like three people in New Orleans, that were strippers that were working in this bar that we ended up using in the movie…I don’t really prepare for anything, it’s just about like, keeping it in your mind the whole time. If it affects you…it’s just about understanding it more, it’s not about having to like physically—oh, but I did have to do pole dancing lessons! But you don’t really see that in the movies.”

Oh, so you’ve got some sexy skills now!
“Yeah yeah.”

Do you get nervous when you have to shoot the more provocative scenes?
“I was freaking out! The thing is my character is so, like, she just doesn’t care. Basically nothing belongs to her. She’ll give it to you like it doesn’t bother [her]. So I had to drop that. She literally walks around with an open sore. Literally! She’s just constantly like, ‘Ugh, I’m fine, whatever.’”

Now that you’re getting back to work, please tell us you were able to enjoy your time off after all the New Moon press.
“Yeah, I’m actually bored for the first time in, like, ever. So, yeah, I really want to get back to work.”

We doubt Robert Pattinson is boring, but glad to hear our gal really is a working girl…well, you know what we mean.

I can’t help but like Kristen Stewart. She seems like a totally down girl and considering how ungodly rich she is at such a young age, I’m quite impressed by how “unrich” she always looks. You would think from the way she looks in these Sundance portraits with Dakota and Floria that the theme was “unkempt”. Kristen keeps it real at all times, you gotta love that. The Runaways premieres at Sundance tonight so we should be reading reviews tomorrow … I can’t wait!

The Home Stretch
‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ Premieres In Hollywood

Last night Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson and many, many others were joined at Mann Village Theatre in Westwood, CA for the grand Hollywood premiere of the sequel film The Twilight Saga: New Moon. As you might expect, the premiere was a lavish and raucous event filled with hordes of screaming fans and the Twilight celebs on the red carpet eating up all of the attention. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals last night along with some deets on the event itself:

“Twilight” fans have taken over the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Thousands of fans filled the streets near UCLA on Monday, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite undead stars attending the evening premiere of “New Moon’ — the second film in the “Twilight’ vampire saga. Some “Twi-hards” — as they call themselves — arrived as early as Thursday afternoon to secure a place in line for tickets allowing them to watch the stars’ arrivals on the red carpet. The 800 available tickets were all distributed by Monday morning, but the line still stretched for blocks well after lunchtime. Nicole Zamora, 36, was sixth in line after getting to Westwood on Thursday afternoon. She and her three sisters wore “New Moon” T-shirts they’d made for the occasion and said they spent the weekend “reading, listening to the iPod and trying to sleep — anything to pass the time.” Christina Fuentes and four of her friends traveled from New Jersey for the “New Moon” premiere. The 24-year-old wore vampire teeth (“They just clip on,” she said) and carried a home-made sign that read, “We flew in from NJ! We’ve been camping out for three days just to see you!” She pasted her airline boarding pass to the poster as proof. They were number 313 in line, she said. The weekend warriors were rewarded with appearances by some “Twilight” stars. “Less than an hour ago we saw Peter Facinelli drive by on his Harley, looking hot,” said 19-year-old Kelley Metoyer, referring to the actor who plays the vampire patriarch in the series.

Metoyer had camped out with six friends since Friday Scores of other fans — mostly young women — crowded onto street corners near the Mann Village and Bruin theaters, where the premiere will be held. They sat on beach chairs, displayed homemade signs and wore T-shirts proclaiming their allegiance to Team Edward or Team Jacob — the handsome vampire (Robert Pattinson) and his werewolf rival (Taylor Lautner). Michelle Cueva carried a sign identifying her group as the “Twi-hard Grannies.” “We’re representing a different generation,” said the 38-year-old, who recently became a grandmother. She and her two friends said they “planned for a whole year” and took a vacation day from work to be part of the excitement, arriving in Westwood at 5 a.m. Monday. “You see it on TV, but to see it in real life, it’s crazy,” she said. “It’s worth it to have taken the day off.” Elizabeth Rios, 20, came to the “Twilight” premiere last year and won a spot on the red carpet. This year, she was on the sidewalk across the street from the theaters. “This is like three times as crazy as last year,” she said. But not everyone was excited about the “New Moon” premiere. “I’ve never seen so many Gothic 12-year-olds in all my life,” grumbled one man as he tried to make his walk through the crowded street. “New Moon” opens Friday.

LOL! I knew this premiere was going to be crazy but … wow … it sounds really crazy. I totally understand that some young women want to be part of the hoopla and choose to camp out for days to be a part of this craziness but I cannot, for the life of me, understand the fanatical mothers and grandmothers! I mean, seriously? You’re 50 years old and you want to fight for position on the sidewalk with a bunch of teenage girls just to get near a movie premiere? Really? That’s so weird. BUT … fans are fans, I suppose. After the jump, check out a couple pics of The Twilight Trinity posing for photos at the New Moon premiere after party …

New movie stills and full-size promo photos
More Promo Photos Of The Volturi Vampires From ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’

Last month we got our first look at head shots of the Volturi vampires that will be featured in the upcoming sequel film The Twilight Saga: New Moon … and today we get to check out not only full-size promo photos of those baddie vamps but also a few movie stills from the film. Here are the stills and some info from People magazine:

Prepare to be scared. In New Moon, the second installment in Stephenie Meyer’s wildly popular Twilight saga, readers are first introduced to the ancient ruling class of vampires known as the Volturi. Determined to capture their creepy menace for his screen version opening Nov. 20, New Moon director Chris Weitz has given them custom-crafted blood-red eyes. “They’re all hand-painted, specially manufactured contacts,” Weitz tells PEOPLE. “They’re opaque red, almost like preying mantis eyes. You can’t really see into them. There’s something terribly off-putting about it.” British actor Michael Sheen (The Queen) plays Aro, leader of the Italian blood-sucking clan. Although Aro and his brothers Marcus (Christopher Heyerdahl) and Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower) have been “alive” for thousands of years, Weitz says he “deliberately” gave them a younger look in the film – for which he credits author Meyer. “Stephenie was very keen to steer away from a kind of wizard-y look for the vampires,” says Weitz. “They do look quite young, but they convey a formality and self-possession, which comes from age.” Perhaps most lethal of all the Volturi is Jane (Dakota Fanning), an angelic-looking vampire who inflicts torture on her victims. “She is very strange and very spooky in this movie,” says Weitz. “I think [Dakota] wanted to play an evil character for once.”

I’m sorry …and in all honesty, it’s hard to judge just from photos but … these vamps don’t look scary as much as they look silly. After the jump, check out the full size promo photos of Jane, Alec, Aro, Marcus and Caius of the Volturi and see if you find them scary — or not …

Italian Bloodline
First Look: The Volturi Of ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’

Some industrious kids on the Internets have come upon a few promo pictures of some of the members of the Volturi vampire clan as they appear in the upcoming sequel film The Twilight Saga: New Moon. As you may recall, we saw photos of Dakota Fanning in costume as Jane of the Volturi on the Italian set of New Moon last month and just last week we got to check out a pretty good but entirely fake poster of Jane from New Moon … but these new photos appear to be the real deal. They even come with the crest of the Volturi to add credence to their authenticity:

While it’s true that anyone with a penchant for Photoshop and lots of time on their hands can come up with a graphic like this (or fake, fanmade promo pics), I think the leaked photos are genuine promo pics. After the jump, check ‘em out for yourselves and see what Jane, Aro, Caius, Marcus and Alec of the Volturi will look like in The Twlight Saga: New Moon

The gang's all here?
Filming On ‘The Runaways’ Continues In SoCal

Last week we saw photos of Kristen Stewart (portraying Joan Jett) and Dakota Fanning (portraying Cherie Currie) filming their first scenes for their new biopic movie The Runaways and today we get to see a few more photos from the SoCal movie set. Kristen (as Joan) gets unruly on top of a car while Dakota (as Cherie) rocks a pair of unruly platform high heel boots:

Those are some serious boots, Dakota! Damn. I gotta admit, tho, the more I see from this movie the more I want to see the final product. I’m a fan of quite a few songs by The Runaways, I’d really love to see how they got their start in the biz. After the jump, check out a photo of Kristen and Dakota with some of their film castmates — I believe it is our first look at the main characters in The Runaways

A whole lotta eyeshadow
Dakota Fanning Begins Filming ‘The Runaways’

Yesterday we saw photos of Kristen Stewart in full costume and make-up as Joan Jett on the SoCal set of the new movie The Runaways which just went into production. Today we get to see pics of Stewart‘s co-star Dakota Fanning in full costume and make-up as Runaways bandmember Cherie Currie on set (along with a couple newer photos of K. Stew as Joan Jett in a different costume) … behold:

Ah yes … I remember all the heavy and IMHO bad make-up that the ladies used to wear in the early 80′s. The look lingered for much of the decade and the young ladies who rocked this look in high school were referred to as burn outs. All I know is that there had better be at least one feather roach clip featured in the flick. To be honest, the look is all nostalgic and fabulous these days … I really am dying to see how this movie will turn out. Previously we saw these young actresses hanging with their real-live counterparts and now we’re seeing them in action. I realize filming *just* started but I really want to see more.

Mentoring
Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart Hang With Real ‘Runaways’

Here are a few new pictures of Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart chillin’ with rockers Cherie Currie and Joan Jett, the women that the young actresses will be portraying in the big screen biopic based on the all-girl 70′s band The Runaways. As you may recall, we previously saw photos of Kristen, rockin’ the hawt mullet, coming out of a recording studio with Joan Jett who is presumably mentoring the young actress on how to sing like her. I believe this is the first time we’ve seen Dakota with Cherie doing the same:

I know that there are a lot of rock purists who are not happy with the casting of this movie based on the legendary band The Runways but I totally get it. The movie will need some semblance of starpower to be successful (especially in this economy) and casting talented no name actresses may help with the film’s indie cred, it won’t necessarily guarantee an audience. You put Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning in any movie and you can be assured that the film will have an audience. I think it speaks very highly of these young actresses that Joan Jett and Cherie Currie are working so closely to ensure that they get their portrayals right. Knowing that the actual Runaways have a say in the film’s production has got me sold. I am deffo looking forward to seeing this biopic … while I am horribly curious, I’m also hoping the young ladies will do the rockers life story justice.
