Cristiano Ronaldo Gets Immortalized In Wax

To celebrate the imminent start of the 2010 World Cup soccer tournament in South Africa this month, Madam Tussaud’s Wax Museum in London, England unveiled a new waxwork exhibit statue in the likeness of Cristiano Ronaldo … behold:

Madame Tussauds in London unveiled a waxwork of Portugal footballer Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday, to coincide with the start of upcoming World Cup. The waxwork depicts the world’s most expensive player wearing the new Portugal strip as he strikes his distinctive pre-free kick pose. The world-famous museum said the figure took four months to create and cost around 150,000 pounds (218,000 US dollars, 180,000 euros). “The World Cup is one of the biggest events in the sporting calendar so it’s fitting we’re welcoming one of soccer’s most exciting talents to the attraction to mark the occasion,” said Liz Edwards, the museum’s spokeswoman. “2010 is definitely a football crazy year here at Madame Tussauds London. We have been overwhelmed with public requests to feature Cristiano Ronaldo and he will join the attraction hot on the heels of fellow international star, Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard, who joined the attraction in February.”

Except for the fact that this wax statue doesn’t look quite tan enough to adequately represent Ronaldo‘s crispy color, I think this statue is a pretty good tribute. While it’s not as fantastic a likeness as Helen Mirren‘s wax statue (which was unveiled last month and looks almost better than the real thing) it’s pretty close … I think this statue looks a bit more like an older, more mature brother to Cristiano rather than the footballer himself. Still … it’s impressive … and it’s a helluva lot better looking than that creepy statue that was erected in Madrid, Spain back in February in honor of Ronaldo. I like this statue … do you?

Are you ready for some fútbol!
Cristiano Ronaldo & Didier Drogba Do ‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine

The World Cup soccer tournament is just about a month away and Vanity Fair magazine is getting into the tourney spirit with the cover of their new issue. Fútbol stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba are featured on the cover (and in their undies) of the new issue of VF magazine in a coverstory article that celebrates the upcoming soccer tournament:

In 38 days, it begins. The World Cup captivates more people around the globe than any other event, sporting or otherwise. Every four years, in pubs and corporate boardrooms, thatched huts and flophouses, fans of “the Beautiful Game” gather around televisions and transistor radios—and now, for the deep of pocket, iPhones and 3-D flat screens—to cheer for their heroes. They watch and listen by the billions, holding their breath at every corner kick, falling to their knees or leaping for joy at every goal scored. That this year’s tournament is in South Africa, where apartheid was the law of the land until 1994, only adds to the heightened sense of celebration—this is about a whole lot more than just soccer. For the June issue of Vanity Fair, Annie Leibovitz set out to capture some of the sport’s biggest stars, including Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba, Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o, and Brazil’s Kaká. Leibovitz’s portraits are, well, revealing. And underwear has never looked so patriotic. In America, these men might not enjoy the same name recognition as the stars of the N.F.L.—that game that we call football—but for most of the planet, they are more than just showstoppers. They are gods. A. A. Gill, in his accompanying June-issue essay, captures just how important football (don’t you dare call it “soccer,” he warns) and the World Cup are to the 6.8 billion of us who live on Planet Earth. “Football took to the world pitch at about the same time as the modern independent nation-state,” Gill writes. “After a flag, a national anthem, and a press release decrying Yankee imperialism, the next thing newly minted nations do is build a stadium and come up with a national grudge match.” Grudges old and new will be settled (or worsened) beginning on June 11, as South Africa opens the World Cup in Soweto against Mexico. Must-see games abound from there on, with England vs. U.S.A. (June 12) and most any matchup from the so-called Group of Death—Ivory Coast vs. Portugal (June 15), Brazil vs. Ivory Coast (June 20), Portugal vs. Brazil (June 25)—topping the list from the opening round.

It’s no secret that I am not a huge soccer fan (sorry, football fan) but I can’t help but be intrigued by the largest sports tournament that exists on the planet. Even tho it’s a very (very, very, very, very) long shot, I’ll be rootin’ for Team USA to win the whole shebang. While it’s highly unlikely, it’s not outside the realm of possibility … and that, I think, is what makes the World Cup tournament so exciting for everyone. Every single country has the same chance at World Cup glory :) After the jump, check out a couple photos of other soccer stars in the pages of this issue of VF mag and check out a behind-the-scenes video from the photoshoot …

"Praça de Ronaldo"
Madrid Erects A Statue Of Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo

So … the city of Madrid, Spain must really, really, really love footballer Cristiano Ronaldo because this week they decided to erect a giant silver statue of Ronaldo in the Plaza de Ramales (which was renamed Praça de Ronaldo for the day) in honor of their sports hero. To the best of my knowledge, I don’t believe that even David Beckham has the honor of having a city erect a statue of him … so this seems like quite an achievement for Mr. Ronaldo. Here is a photo from the statue’s unveiling ceremony this week:

Residents living near the Plaza de Ramales, a quiet square in a western residential area of the Spanish capital, woke yesterday morning to find the streets adorned with green and red confetti (the colours of the Portuguese flag) along with an imposing statue of Cristiano Ronaldo, commissioned by a sporting firm. As reported by Spanish sports daily Marca, the statue of the world’s most expensive player is 10 metres in height and silver in colour, featuring the player standing over a football. The Plaza de Ramales was renamed the ‘Praça de Ronaldo’ for the duration of the day. Ronaldo has only been at the Santiago Bernabeu since the summer, but has already become a hero in the Spanish capital. On Sunday against Villarreal, the Portuguese star put on a footballing recital, scoring from a blistering set piece to register Madrid’s first goal and contributing to four of the next five goals scored by los Blancos in a 6-2 victory. After scoring his goal, CR9 lifted his shirt to show a second shirt with ‘Madeira’ written on it in black marker, in a tribute to his home island which suffered from devastating floods over the weekend.

Oh man … I’m certain that laying claim to a ginormous silver statue erected in your honor will not do much to cool Ronaldo‘s 25 year old ego. Heaven help us all. So … you wanna see what the statue looks like? Check it out after the jump …

Watch: Cristiano Ronaldo Behind The Scenes For Armani Underwear

Yesterday we got to check out a short video commercial featuring Megan Fox, the new female celebrity spokesmodel for Emporio Armani, in her Armani skivvies and today we get to check out a behind the scenes video of Cristiano Ronaldo on the set of his Armani Underwear shoot. This video is about 2 minutes long and is, IMHO, sexier than the photos we’ve seen thus far of Cristiano modeling the Armani skivvies:

There is something much more appealing about Cristiano not lookin’ so posed all the time that adds to the sexiness of this campaign. This behind the scenes video is hot, y’all. Don’t believe me? Check it out in full after the jump …

Birthday Lurve
Happy 25th Birthday, Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo, soccer stud and new spokesmodel for Emporio Armani Underwear, is celebrated his 25th birthday yesterday at an event for his soccer team Real Madrid in Madrid, Spain:

Yeah, I don’t think this was Cristiano‘s big birthday celebration, the event just happened to take place on his birthday. I suspect he enjoyed a proper celebration later on last night. In any event, this gives us the chance to wish Sr. Ronaldo a Happy 25th Birthday!! I’m not sure how many of y’all are Cristiano Ronaldo fans but I’m sure he’d appreciate all the Birthday Lurve you can spare for him today. Happy Birthday, Cris!

Cristiano Ronaldo Shows Off His New Ride

Cristiano Ronaldo, the new male spokesmodel for Emporio Armani, surfaced in Madrid, Spain tooling around in a flashy new Ferrari this week to meet up with a friend for lunch … behold:

It would appear that Mr. Ronaldo is putting all of that money he got from Armani to good use. You know what they say about dudes with big, garish sports cars … they’ve prolly got big, garish personalities, too ;) Shoot, this kid is still in his 20′s, he’s a major international sports star and he’s got money coming out of his eyeballs … I can’t really hate on him for spending his money (un)wisely. As far as I know, he stays out of trouble (for the most part) and has a pretty good head on his shoulders. Live it up, Cristiano!

Another ride on the LOLercoaster
More Photos Of Cristiano Ronaldo For Emporio Armani

Yesterday we got our FIRST LOOK at the first photos released from the Spring/Summer 2010 ad campaign for Emporio Armani featuring their new male spokesmodel Cristiano Ronaldo (which came out one day after Armani released the first photos of Megan Fox as their new female spokesmodel). Today we get to see a few more photos of Ronaldo in Armani and, I’m happy to report, they are just as RIDICULOUSLY posed as the first photos are:

He may be packing a smaller lunchbox, but the six pack certainly seems to be more pronounced. Chiselled Cristiano Ronaldo flexes his muscles for the new Emporio Armani Men’s Underwear and Armani Jeans campaign after taking over from David Beckham. During his two years with the Italian fashion house, Becks was thought to have benefited from a spot of airbrushing to accentuate his six pack (and his package). But at 10 years younger, 24-year-old Real Madrid star Ronaldo – who does 3,000 sit-ups a day to maintain his killer abs – will perhaps not require as much touching up. That’s not to say that the Portuguese ‘winker’ hasn’t taken some inspiration from Mr Beckham over the years. Not only has he taken his Armani crown, seen here fronting the Spring/ Summer 2010 ad campaign, but he has also followed him around the football pitch too. In 2003 he signed for Manchester Untied, only to bag the famous No 7 shirt worn by the club’s departed star player Beckham. And then two years after Becks left Real Madrid for LA Galaxy, Ronaldo reared his head again by signing a deal with the Spanish club. In recent years has even been seen enjoying spending time in Los Angeles, proving that where ever Beckham is, Ronaldo is not far behind. The pictures for the ad, which will hit billboards and magazines next month, were shot on location Madrid by renowned fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

I find the allegation that Cristiano Ronaldo does “3,000 sit-ups a day” highly dubious … but if that’s his story, I guess we’ll have to take his word on it. It’s a shame, even with a rockin’ bod, these photos look TERRIBLE because of how poorly posed they are. LOL. After the jump, check out a couple more photos — poorly posed but he is in his undies …

Cristiano's bulge steps in for Beckham's bulge
First Look: Cristiano Ronaldo For Emporio Armani

Yesterday we got our first look at actress Megan Fox‘s first batch of photos as the new female spokesmodel for Emporio Armani, taking over from Victoria Beckham who was last year’s model. Today we get our first look at soccer phenom Cristiano Ronaldo‘s first batch of photos as the new male spokesmodel for Emporio Armani, taking over for David Beckham … behold:

Unfortch, Cristiano looks really constipated in this first photo. It’s not a good look for him. But, in better news, a couple photos of Ronaldo in Armani Underwear have also come to light as well. How does his bulge measure up to Becks‘s bulge? Find out after the jump …

A new bulge has been chosen
Cristiano Ronaldo Will Replace Beckham As The New Armani Underwear Model

For the past year or so, David Beckham and his bulging bulge has provided us with much entertainment in his various ad campaign photos for Emporio Armani Underwear. But, as with all good things, Becks‘s contract with Armani is up … so Armani had to choose someone else to stuff their bulge into their famous underwear for their new 2010 ad campaign. Clearly Armani really likes having fútbols stuffed into their undies because they have selected Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo as their new underwear model:

Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, of Real Madrid, will be the next footballer to model underwear for Emporio Armani, in their spring-summer 2010 collection, replacing AC Milan and England footballer David Beckham, Italian sports daily La Gazetta dello Sport announced on Friday. Originally, Armani chose “Shevchenko, then Kaká, both alluring, both footballers, both Milan players – and both fully dressed,” said the paper. When it came to modelling its line of underwear, Armani went for Beckham, on loan to Milan since 2008 and “the most beautiful of them all,” who posed nude, apart from a pair of the Italian fashion house’s boxers. He was also joined by his wife Victoria: both “very sensual,” says the daily. On Friday, the “most beautiful” was traded in for “another delight with the ball,” Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid’s 24-year-old star, the most expensive signing in history and “the most sought after man on the planet” of which his “repeated conquests and chronicles of his steamy nights” are proof, it surmises, The news, which was leaked by sources from both the football and fashion worlds, has still not been made official. According to La Gazzeta, Ronaldo will feature on advertising billboards for Armani’s younger clothes section in all of Europe’s major cities as of February next year. The advertising campaign will most likely take place in Milan, it adds, stressing that this is the first time Giorgio Armani has chosen a footballer that doesn’t play for AC. “This time it’s the turn of the international media’s favourite footballer; one that plays for Real Madrid, drinks champagne with Paris Hilton in Los Angeles and sails his boat around the Mediterranean,” concludes La Gazzeta.

Firstly, let me say that I think it’s foolish of Armani to NOT offer David Beckham a new contract to appear in another year of underwear ads. Yes, it makes sense to switch up models with each new year but Beckham helped Armani reach new heights in underwear sales. If you also consider that with Becks comes his wifey Victoria Beckham in her own underwear ads … it just makes sense. That being said, if they had to replace Becks with anyone it is very smart that they went with another high profile footballer. Cristiano Ronaldo has always struck me as David Beckham, Jr. (but with a crispier tan) so he would be the most natural heir to this campaign. I’m very curious to see what Ronaldo‘s Armani underwear ads will look like. Will his bulge measure up … in sales? I guess we will soon find out.

Cristiano Ronaldo Gets A Poolside Rub-Down

Soccer stud Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been spending a bit of time chillin’ out in Las Vegas, NV recently, spent part of his weekend gettin’ a poolside rub-down … from a very hairy and older gentleman. Perhaps the man has magic fingers or mebbe Cristiano just likes his masseuses to be a bit grizzly but it sure looks as if Cristiano enjoyed himself in the process:

I imagine that a sports celebrity of Ronaldo‘s stature has the ability to choose the masseuse of his liking … I cannot imagine that anyone would say no to someone of his celebrity … so, clearly, this hairy dude was Cristiano‘s #1 pick. I’m not entirely sure what the guy was lookin’ for in that area of Cristiano‘s body but … I hope he found it … looks like fun.
