Courtney Love has never been shy about speaking her mind, and the rocker is characteristically unabashed in a new interview with Spin magazine. When asked about daughter Frances Bean, 17, who currently has a restraining order against her mom, Love points a finger at the family of her late husband Kurt Cobain. “Those snarly-ass O’Connors want checks,” she says in Spin slated to hit newsstands Feb. 23, referring to her late husband’s family. “I’m through supporting their asses.” Cobain’s mother, Wendy O’Connor and his younger sister, Kimberly, currently have legal, medical and financial authority over the teenager. Despite losing legal control of Frances Bean, Love, 45, says she’s focused on making her new album, Nobody’s Daughter, a success. “One time, Frances was being mean and said, ‘What are you going to do if the record fails?’ ” Love reveals. “Well, Frances, it can’t fail because I love it, and I’ve worked really hard to make sure that I love it.” But, the magazine reports, Love is not as gruff as she sometimes seems and tears up at the mention of her daughter, saying, “I’m lost in a [expletive] nightmare maze.” The singer revealed her feelings about her daughter on Twitter last week, writing, “My daughter has been kidnapped and i am going to take it? Of course i was beyond angry, despondent suicidal in every way.” However, in the Spin interview, she references suicide again while discussing drugs. “I don’t take anything that isn’t prescribed to me,” she says. “Cocaine, narcotics – those would be tantamount to suicide, and I’m not suicidal.”

This Spin magazine coverstory meanders a bit and features that off-kilter Courtney Love that we are very familiar with but, I have to say, she comes off as much more coherent than she normally does in her My Space/Twitter/Facebook rants. Thru a filter, provided by a journalist, Courtney sounds pretty lucid. I can’t help but be curious to hear her new album … I’m deffo planning to give it a shot. In regards to losing custody of her daughter, well, Frances will turn 18 later on this year which will render the matter of parental custody moot. It’s prolly for the best that Frances takes control of her own life cuz leaving it in the hands of Courtney Love? Well … no. Courtney Love has found a home for Nobody’s Daughter. Mercury/IDJ will release Hole’s highly anticipated new album on April 27. It took Love, who graces the cover of the March issue of SPIN, five years to finish Nobody’s Daughter, during which time she told the magazine she relied on “the kindness of strangers” — in reality, former collaborators like Linda Perry, Billy Corgan, and producer Michael Beinhorn, who helmed Hole’s previous album, 1998’s Celebrity Skin. All three have since distanced themselves from the project. Beinhorn quit after almost a year, citing frustration with Love’s “fragmented focus.” “She had a lot of things going on in her personal life that made it impossible to do the sort of work that I wanted,” he says. Though Perry declined to comment, Love tells SPIN that Perry, who cowrote America’s Sweetheart, the singer-guitarist’s 2004 solo debut, has been “incredibly gracious” and “gave me probably the best advice I ever received, which is to become a lesbian.” As SPIN previously reported, Hole’s founding guitarist, Eric Erlandson, objects to Love’s use of the band name since none of the former members are involved. The current line-up includes Love’s roommate, 23-year-old British guitarist Micko Larkin, bassist Shawn Dailey (of Rock Kills Kid), and drummer Stuart Fisher. Jack Irons, formerly of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam, played drums on the album. The success of Nobody’s Daughter is crucial to Love’s long-awaited comeback, especially given her recent drama: She lost custody of daughter Frances Bean in December amid rumors of domestic abuse, and a restraining order prevents Love from contacting her. “One time, Frances was being mean and she said, ‘What are you going to do if this record fails?’” Love tells SPIN. “Well, Frances, it can’t fail because I love it, and I’ve worked really hard to make sure that I love it.”

This may sound like great news for C. Love fans but, I wouldn’t hold my breath just yet. As you may recall, it was previously announced that Nobody’s Daughter would be released on January 1, 2009. Still, this is hopeful news … especially since it comes from Spin magazine. I’ll admit it, altho she is a crazy trainwreck I’m really curious about the sound of this new album. I can’t wait to hear it — tho, it won’t be a proper Hole album. Courtney may be a crappy mother but I suppose she’s an OK rock star. The judge’s order prohibiting Courtney Love from having contact with her daughter — Frances Bean Cobain — has just been extended … and the clock is now ticking on their relationship. The judge had stripped Courtney of legal control of her daughter back in December. The judge also issued a restraining order. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the restraining order has now been extended to April 9. Fact is — Frances Bean turns 18 in August. At that point, it’s up to her … not a judge … to decide what relationship she wants to have with her mother. For now, Frances Bean’s guardians are Wendy O’Connor (Kurt Cobain’s mom), and Kimberly Dawn Cobain (Kurt’s sister).

Ugh … what a shame. It’s prolly for the best that C. Love be kept away from Frances. Courtney is bizzy trying to re-launch her music career and it really sounds like Frances needs caring adults in her life who will be there to care for her, to put her needs first. It’s a shame when things like this happen but this restraining order sounds like it’s not a bad thing after all. It sure is a damn shame, tho.

Well … okay … so the site doesn’t actually feature any new music per se but it does feature a guitar riff that Courtney is particularly proud of and cannot stop bragging about on Twitter. The fact that she’s got 3 shows lined up (in London, Milan and Amsterdam) means that she must surely be serious about getting back to her music career, right? Right. Oh, Courtney. In regards to losing custody of her daughter, C. Love posted a rant on her Facebook profile blasting her daughter as a traitor for choosing to live with her grandmother, Wendy O’Connor, rather than with her. After the jump, check out the rest of C. Yeeeeeeeeeah. I don’t know that Court was really going for Mother of the Year with these photos and I don’t suspect they will help much with any bid on her part to regain custody of her daughter but, well … she’s just being Courtney, I guess. And, in all honesty, it doesn’t sound like Courtney even wants to get custody of her daughter back again:

COURTNEY LOVE has launched a vicious attack on her own daughter, calling her “deluded” and “deceptive”. The volatile rocker has hinted she wants nothing more to do with FRANCES BEAN COBAIN after losing custody of her. Frances has been placed under the temporary guardianship of her late father KURT’s mum Wendy O’Connor and sister Kimberly – apparently of her own doing. As a result, a fuming Courtney, 45, took to Facebook to vent her rage at 17-year-old Frances via a series of scathing posts. She wrote: “I hate to sound cold but any kid of mine who pulls this shit has lost her position… she was deceptive, she lied and she’s lying to herself… “My daughter is not always honest.” The HOLE rocker also warned her daughter she’s not as wealthy as she’s led herself to believe. Furthermore, Courtney reminded Frances she’s the one in control of the money tragic NIRVANA star Kurt left his family. She added: “The fact is fbc (Frances Bean Cobain) is deluded. She thinks she has all this money. The point is I have all the money she has. Frances is clearly deluded that she can buy her grandmother a small house in LA. I’d love to see how that works.” However, Courtney offered some reconciliatory praise for her daughter once she’d calmed down. She wrote: “Don’t worry, Frances is a wonderful kid, she’s got bad people around her and wants it both ways. You could’ve asked for emancipation… you realise this will put you in juvenile family circus three times in your little life? I love you and always will unconditionally.” It’s been reported a drug relapse cost Courtney custody of her teen girl. However, the singer’s lawyer has rubbished the claim, insisting his client is completely “clean”.

Yikes! Since this rant, Courtney posted one last message on her Facebook page:

ive never had so many texts in my life, i want to thank all my friends im so glad i have you and to frannie’s worried friends shes not stupid she trusted the wrong people and got snookered into a circus shell figure out what a ridiculous mess shes in and shes smart,shell have to work really hard and shes not used to it. but i have faith shes my daughter and i love her. cruelty is not what shes about.

It sounds like Frances living with her grandmother is the best outcome of this whole mess. It must be terrible for young Frances to read these messages from her mother on Facebook … poor thing :(

Courtney Love no longer has legal control of her daughter. TMZ has learned a legal guardian has been appointed to care for 17-year-old Frances Bean Cobain. Guardianships of this nature are frequently established when the parent is not capable of taking care of their children. The guardians appointed by the court are Wendy O’Connor, Kurt Cobain’s mom, and Kimberly Dawn Cobain, Kurt’s sister. The guardianship was established on Friday. Courtney Love was not in court. The guardianship is for both Frances Bean personally and her financial well-being. The guardians do not have power over the trust established after Kurt Cobain’s death. The guardianship was established after a fairly long period of unstable conduct by Courtney Love. The court proceedings, however, are sealed.

I’ve always regarded Courtney’s ramblings online as wacky but it never really occurred to me that they might be used against her in this way. We may never know what went down in that courtroom since the proceedings are private but C. Love has given ample evidence of her instability. At 17, Frances prolly won’t need to be under her grandmother’s guardianship for long … if she wants to be with her mother, she will be with her mother. But, again, I’m not at all surprised by any of this … are you?

Tom Ford has ruminated about death ever since he was a small boy growing up in Texas. It was the flip side to his early, genetic fascination with beauty. “Everything in life is bittersweet for me, because when I see something beautiful, I also see it aging, old, dead, gone,” he says. “I was very aware of mortality. I was very aware of my time on the planet.” Still today, almost every morning he awakes and wonders, “If I die tomorrow, what am I going to miss?” Ford speaks quickly and hypnotically, words rolling out with a seductive, almost aromatic intensity. Intimations of death swirl around his directorial debut, “A Single Man,” based on the Christopher Isherwood novel, which opens Friday. Set in 1962 Los Angeles, it is the lushly beautiful tale of a suicidal, gay college professor ( Colin Firth) contemplating his last day on earth in the wake of the sudden death of his longtime lover … “A Single Man” has a mesmerizing sensuousness. “Everyone keeps saying to me, ‘Everyone is so beautiful. Everything is so beautiful.’ I didn’t even notice that!” he says. “That’s just the way I see. That’s the way I think.” This said, Ford’s visual panache is put to the service of a story far from the ephemeral catwalk. “Midlife is when you get to the top of the ladder, only to realize you’ve had the ladder against the wrong wall,” he says, describing his loss of a certain identity after leaving Gucci. He sees the film as a personal reaction to the prevalent culture of more, of almost always thinking life will improve with a new job, or a new pair of shoes. Ford related to Isherwood’s theme of “the true self observing the false self going through the day,” and grafted details of his own life onto the story, including George’s obsession with ritualistic grooming. The details of his proposed suicide are based on the suicide of one of Ford’s relations, who killed himself in a sleeping bag so as not to make a mess. Then there’s the relationship between George and his former lover, played by Julianne Moore, who’s forever disappointed George is gay. “That’s my relationship with a lot of women in my life,” Ford says. “I’ve had very heterosexual periods in my life. I’m perfectly sexually attracted to women, but I fall in love with men. Unrequited love is always heartbreaking, especially on the side of the person who feels the love and it’s not returned” … “A Single Man” touches on the … seize-the-moment, life-affirming theme, though now it’s refracted in a softer, more reflective light. Three decades after he first read Isherwood’s book, “A Single Man” popped into his head again as he was driving to work one day. A film devotee since he was a kid (with passions for Kubrick, De Sica, Hitchcock and Bette Davis), he’d been thinking about making a film for some 15 years. Ford wrote the screenplay himself (although credit is shared with the writer of an earlier incarnation, David Scearce). Unlike the book, which is essentially a long interior monologue, the cinematic George is contemplating suicide, an addition made by Ford to give the film more plot. The film is frank about gay sexuality, although there are no sexual scenes, he says, because the story is about love.

I’m very excited to see this film for myself. I read the Isherwood novel in graduate school (among other Isherwood novels) and remember really loving the book. I’m not very familiar with Ford’s film work for Gucci but I have no doubt that his fashionable eye is capable of crafting beautiful visuals to accompany the beautiful but stark tale. As I said, I’ve only read great things about this film … I’m very curious to see if the all the love being heaped upon this film measures up to the reality.

Though she abandoned Twitter in a Miley Cyrus-led exodus, Courtney Love is now posting her barely-decipherable public missives at her Facebook fanpage. You’d be forgiven if you missed the memo about her new online home, but after today, we’re thinking a lot more people will know about it — especially the lawyers for Edward Norton and Britney Spears. Love has begun hurling accusations at both celebrities, and it isn’t pretty. First up is ex Edward Norton, who Love essentially accuses of mishandling the finances of Kim Cobain, Kurt’s sister:

OY! I suppose I should be thankful that C. Love is back to her trainwreck ways but all of this is just too sad to get any enjoyment out of. Courtney herself thinks that everything is A-OK, nothing at all the matter. She also writes:
