This Marc Jacobs collection is much more mature/muted than his more colorful Marc by Marc Jacobs show which also showed at The Armory yesterday:

I deffo like the look of this collection over the other one … but, then again, I always respond better to crazy colors like these. There is no question that Marc Jacobs is the rock star of NY Fashion Week … and he doesn’t seem to ever disappoint.

That the woman is able to put one foot in front of the other and actually walk down the street seems like a huge accomplishment to me. I had my doubts that this “new album” of hers would ever come to light … but if she is serious about employing the aid of other people (ie. actual musicians) then the disc might eventually be released at some point. The UK has their Amy Winehouse, we have our Courtney Love. Heaven help us all.

The other week in Los Angeles, I visited NME’s old friend, glam grunge survivor and latterday Hollywood conduit, Ms Courtney Love. I’ve been following the production of her long-awaited new album ‘Nobody’s Daughter’ ever since she picked up her career again in 2006 after the last round of troubles. Yes, it’s been a long time. Yes, she’s on her third producer, fourth studio, and lord knows how many bass players. But along the way, extraordinary things have been afoot. What began as an attempt to reinvent herself as an MOR adult-rock artist with power-ballad queen Linda Perry at the helm was abandoned when it became apparent that that is just not how this lady rolls. Next, she headed to London, with the intention of finding a band. The only survivor from that initial line-up comes from the most unlikely of sources – Micko Larkin, from sometime Albion reprobates Larrikin Love. She scooped him up, took him to the Chateau Marmont and set about polishing the talent she saw into her new Eric Erlandson. She’s still kept a bunch of the songs she wrote with Perry (and, indeed, longtime compadre Billy Corgan). But when she began writing with Larkin (whose talent she looks like having been right about), it became obvious that the ‘Rock Courtney’ was back in action, and that this music could only come out under one name, HOLE. Micko will be lead guitarist, and Hole bassist Melissa auf der Maur, though working on projects of her own, has returned for backing vocals, and may play bass on tours next year. The album is as good as done, with the rest of the touring line-up for now remaining TBC. Now, there will be plenty of people who throw rocks at Courtney for bringing back a modified version of Hole for the same reasons that they threw rocks at Corgan for bringing back Smashing Pumpkins. I would raise them that Courtney and Billy are the essences of Hole and the Pumpkins for the same reasons that Liam and Noel are the essence of Oasis. Does anybody question the authenticity of an Oasis without Tony McCarroll, Bonehead and the other one? Thought not. In any case, ‘Nobody’s Daughter’, the fourth Hole album, is likely to be released at the end of the 2009/early 2010 through a TBC label, with production by Michael Beinhorn. Check back tomorrow for a first-listen round-up of some of the tracks. But for now, an update from the studio. To set the scene: it is midnight at the Henson Studios in West Hollywood. Three hours previously, Courtney rolled into Studio B for another night session, excitedly showing off her ‘first pair of leather pants in 20 years’. The room is adorned with photographs of the album’s muses, from Father Ted’s Father Jack to Elvis Presley. Micko has been instructed to research Hole’s cover of ‘He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss)’ and Metallica string-tribute band Apocalyptica. What followed was a three-hour playback/external monologue covering subjects ranging from The Rolling Stones, Katy Perry, insurance fraud, Russell Brand, and dressmaking. She revealed that she is still acting as indie shrink to Ryan Jarman (“I told him, ‘You know what selling out means? It means there are no tickets left for Madison Square Garden!”). She revealed that she is planning to “unleash” Florence and her Machine on America (“I played with her in London and she handed me my ass”). She revealed some exciting plans for a touring festival of the US next year (more details of which soon). And she revealed all manner of unrepeatable gossip about the galaxy of Hollywood stars that now make-up Courtney’s peer group. And then, after donning some handmade clothes, she prepared to address her public… To Courtney’s left are her, ahem Doll Parts, the porcelain muses that have guided her through the making of the album. To her far left is Micko himself. It’s worth repeating a text message we received the following morning, after we had left them to work: “OMG.OMG. OMG. Tonight was EPIC. This Micko is a genius. I owe [Queen Of Noize/Florence's manager] Mairead Nash my life. Fuck Jack. Fuck Josh. Fuck Me. Fuck Everyone.” Over to you, Courtney…

This is interesting … I believe this is the first time I’m hearing this notion of Nobody’s Daughter being a Hole album. The album has always been referred to as her next solo album … but, apparently, that plan has changed. I still contend that Courtney is a horrible trainwreck of a person but I am horribly curious to hear the new music that C. Love is cooking up in this mysterious studio. American Express Co wants Courtney Love to leave home without it. The financial services firm sued the musician in Los Angeles on Wednesday, alleging she owes more than $350,000 in unpaid charges and other fees on her AmEx Gold card. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, seeks $352,059.67 for the unpaid balance, damages, attorney’s fees and late charges, and says Love’s charging privileges were suspended after she “failed and refused” to make payments. Love’s publicist said he had no immediate information on the suit, and had left a message with her attorney. Love, the 44-year-old widow of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, is a litigation magnet. She was sued for libel in February by a fashion designer upset by comments Love had reportedly made about her on the micro-blogging Web site Twitter. Last year, Love was sued for $1 million by an advisory firm seeking its share of proceeds from Love’s partial sale of Nirvana’s publishing catalog. The deal, covering such Nirvana tunes as “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Lithium,” was reportedly worth $19.5 million. Cobain killed himself in 1994.

If memory (and my deciphering skills) serves, I believe Courtney has addressed this credit card issue a few times on her official My Space blog. It is her assertion, I believe, that other people have used her name and social security number to open credit card accounts in her name and have run up these bills without her consent or knowledge … well, until the unpaid credit amounts have gotten so large. She has also blamed some of this credit card drama on Ryan Adams (yes, the singer who just married Mandy Moore) for some reason or another but because her rants are generally so incomprehensible, it’s difficult to know exactly what her argument is. If she truly has been the victim of credit card fraud, then I’m with her on the non-payment. That said … getting sued by AmEx for such a large sum of money would freak me the eff out. Something tells me that C. Love doesn’t scare easily tho (nor is she a shrinking violet) … if I were AmEx, I wouldn’t go counting my settlement payment from her just yet.

Um, whut? Evan Rachel Wood and Gwyneth Paltrow get shout-outs and, of course, she has to lambaste Ryan Adams but … I’m at a total loss as to what the gist of her tweets mean. Anyone? Anyone? Additionally, C. Love also posted a new post on her My Space profile this morning as well … but my head already hurts from reading all of these tweets so I’ll leave it to y’all to read and enjoy (?) for yourselves. As long as Courtney keeps communicating with the outside world (via Twitter, My Space, whatevs) we know she’s still alive and well … and really, isn’t that the greatest gift of all?

But it was when she took off the hat that the problem began to show. I don’t know anyone who even owns a hair crimping iron anymore but, clearly, Courtney is madly in love with hers. Poodle hair rarely looks good on poodles so I don’t know why she thought the look would work for her. There has still been no word on whether or not she plans to release that album she was supposed to release back on January 1 of this year. Perhaps she’s been too bizzy crimping her hair to bother with releasing new albums.

Um … whut? As best as I can ascertain, Courtney felt compelled to explain, in her own way, that there are people out there using the last name Cobain to buy property and as a result are stealing from her and her daughter … or something like that. As far as C. Love blogposts go, this one is … weird. I’m not sure who she is talking to. She asks, “DO YOU UNDERFUCKINGSTAND?” and I have to say that, No, I do not underfuckingstand … but that’s OK. All of the fun of reading Courtney’s blog comes from the fact that it generally makes no sense at all — and, once again, Courtney does not disappoint.

These photos are very similar to the photos of Lindsay that we saw yesterday, tho Courtney doesn’t appear as frightfully skinny as Lindsay does. Just as Lindsay showed off some exposed nipple in her photos, Courtney does her one better … fully exposed breasts. Hey, it’s art, people. After the jump, check out a few more photos of C. While I not really need to see Courtney’s boobs (ever again), I do think that many of these photos are quite striking. The cigarette photos aren’t really that attractive all but I think the use of the veil coupled with the stark lighting lends a certain beauty to some of the photos. C. Love may be a trainwreck at times but she does photograph well … when the camera is in able hands. Personally, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, I much prefer these photos to the photos of Lindsay we saw yesterday. The gauntness of the Lindsay photos just turn me right off … these photos, on the other hand, are quite nice. I really do hate the cigarette photos but the others, I like. Obviously, C. Love was hellbent on upholding her title as Elle Style Woman of the Year. Way to rep your new title, girl. Also, way to totally discount any sense of respectability that the Elle Style Awards ever had or thought they had.

It must be said, tho, that the purple is a very nice color for Courtney. But the clown make-up has got to go. I expect an $8 billion dollar class action lawsuit on behalf of offended Gypsies everywhere should be next on the horizon.

Another torrential downpour; another awards night. BAFTA stars and celebrities braved lashing rain, ankle-deep puddles and a bone-chilling wind for the Elle Style Awards at Big Sky Studios in North London last night. Minders with brollies and a canopy hastily erected outside the main door provided a brief respite as the girls in their gowns shook the raindrops from their hair. Freida Pinto, still elated after Slumdog Millionaire’s success the previous night, and recipient of Elle’s Best Actress award, wore a funky Chanel short dress with a transparent PVC yoke embellished with silk camellias. Alexa Chung, the host for the evening and winner of the Best TV Star, was also in Chanel, looking extremely sophisticated in a teal-blue, short, fitted backless dress, accessorised with a gigantic cocktail ring by Mawi, and a new upswept hairdo. “I don’t look too mumsy, do I,” she worried. No way, Alexa. Courtney Love, who was named Woman of the Year, entertained the camera crews with impersonations of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. Her ‘Cruella de Vil’ black fishtail gown, worn with a little shrug encrusted with jet and black sequins, was by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy. Roisin Murphy also played the Givenchy card, teaming her mirror-beaded top with a pair of Armand Basi grey harem pants … Mickey Rourke arrived just in time to pick up his Best Actor award and gorgeous Sienna Miller, who received the Style Icon award, made a discreet entrance, which almost fooled the photographers. She’s looking forward to the catwalk debut of Twenty8Twelve, the label she jointly runs and designs with her sister, Savannah, a Central Saint Martins graduate, and which is one of the hottest tickets for the forthcoming London Fashion Week, starting on Friday February 19th. Also joining in the Best-Dressed fun were Rolf Snoeren and Viktor Horsting, recipients of the H&M Style Visionary trophy, who dazzled in black DJs with lapels encrusted with jewels, beads and crystals, Matthew Williamson and Christopher Kane who was named best British Designer.

The Elle Style Awards are usually pretty spot on with their prizes (tho I question the wisdom of honoring Mickey Rourke for his “style” choices) … but I have absolutely NO IDEA how Courtney Love qualifies as Woman of the Year. If I recall, she only graced the mag’s pages once in the past year … and really hasn’t done anything professionally in years. Even in a ceremonial sense, awarding C. Love a prestigious award like this doesn’t make a whole lotta sense. At least, Court bothered to make the trip to the UK to collect her prize. I suppose she looks a’ight … even after a night of partying. As crazy as she seems, I do have a soft spot for Courtney Love. Sure her blogs are usually nothing more than meaningless nonsense but I am a fan of her music. I hope she still plans to release that album she was supposed to release on Jan. 1 … there’s been no news on when we might expect it, if at all. I guess we’ll have to see. In any event, Congrats goes out to Courtney and all the other award winners last night.
