Comedy Central Roasts David Hasselhoff

Last Summer Comedy Central threw a celebrity roast event so that they cold honor skewer Joan Rivers and this year they set their sights on actor David Hasselhoff. Folks like Jerry Springer, Pamela Anderson and Hulk Hogan were on hand to do the honors … which shows you just how little regard Comedy Central has for Hasselhoff. Here are some photos from the red carpet arrivals last night and some deets from the event:

David Hasselhoff is finally at peace with his video demons. After a number of setbacks — including the unceremonious bump off the judges’ table on “America’s Got Talent” — Hollywood’s cheesiest former lifeguard threw himself at the mercy of co-stars, comics and random celebrities last night in LA at the Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff. “I told him is that once you do this, no one will ever be able to make fun of you again,” comedian Jeffrey Ross tells The Post. “It is a gauntlet that you will never be able to top. It showed a lot of integrity.” There were, of course, lots of barbs about Baywatch, booze, babes and burgers. “How do you put somebody down when they are already lying shirtless on the floor?” asked roastmaster Seth MacFarlane. Then the gloves came off. Pamela Anderson: “David, I really want to work with you again someday, but there’s no work for me in gay porn.” Lisa Lampinelli: “I don’t want to say David drank a lot, but his liver is so black and bloated it could have starred in Precious.” Hulk Hogan: “David never had sex with any of his co-stars…because back then they didn’t have roofies.” Ross: “The difference between Hasselhoff and Hitler is at least Hitler knew when his career was over.” Hasselhoff said he welcomed the opportunity to finally poke fun at his recent struggles with alcohol and the now infamous cheeseburger video. “In the beginning I didn’t do (acknowledge) it because it was in a very personal matter that involved the custody of my children and a tape that was illegally released,” he said. “Everybody was making fun of it. I could have gone on Larry King…but I wouldn’t do it. I said ‘I want to address it the way I want to address it and tonight was the way to do that. It was incredibly therapeutic. It feels great.”

I’m telling you, David Hasselhoff LOVED every single second of last night’s roast. The man has an uncanny ability to laugh at himself and bask in the glory that anyone even cares enough to pay attention to him long enough to poke fun at him. I bet he was in hog heaven last night. The Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff won’t air on Comedy Central until August 15 but after the jump you can check out a promo video featuring the Hoff himself hyping up his own celebrity roast …

A Rivers Runs Thru It

As I mentioned earlier, I was able to attend the Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers which taped here in SoCal last night and will air on Comedy Central on Sunday August 9. I’ve been invited to previous roasts but when I heard they were roasting Joan Rivers and that Kathy Griffin was hosting the roasting … well, I couldn’t pass it up:

To be completely honest, I was laughing too hard to take any pictures of the event. I was seated right smack dab in the middle of the room in prime position to see and hear everything. I was able to hang out with my friend Marc Malkin from E! News and we enjoyed the roast together. People, the jokes are really offensive and not for the PC of heart … but they are funny and, as is the tradition of roast jokes, wholly inappropriate. You’ve gotta tune in on August 9 to see and hear for yourselves. Watch THIS site for all the deets on the Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers.

The night was really fun … but I was most excited that David returned home from his weekend away. He jetted off to hang with some friends in Cleveland, OH and came home last night … it’s nice to have him back home where he belongs. Not sure what we’ve got planned for today but I’m thinkin’ I want to see a movie. We shall see.

Comedy Central Roasts Joan Rivers

Last night friends and longtime compatriots of Joan Rivers were invited to the CBS Studios Lot in Studio City, CA for the Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers. In previous years, Comedy Central has hosted roast tribute events in honor of actors and comedians but this year they’ve pulled out all the stops for one of the most iconic, most enduring comics alive today … barely. Here are some of the folks who came out for the Roast of Joan Rivers last night:

I was very lucky to attend last night’s taping and shared some of the zingers that were said about Joan Rivers on my Twitter account last night. There were so many more that I would’ve loved to have shared but they were wholly inappropriate and grossly offensive … and that was exactly the point. Whitney Cummings, sidekick to Chelsea Handler, was my fave roaster of the night … her bit was ENTIRELY hilarious and horribly offensive. Mario Cantone, tho I love him, was the worst roaster of the bunch. Kathy Griffin did an amazing job as host of the event but Joan, naturally, stole the show. A woman who has been in the biz for as long as she has and has achieved so much success absolutely deserves to be honored in this manner … with tasteless joke after offensive slur all night long. She looked like she had the time of her life. It was really a great event. I’ll have more personal commentary a little later on today. But I have to let you all know that the Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers airs on Comedy Central on Sunday August 9. While I’m sure it will be HEAVILY censored, be on the look out for the uncensored version of the roast that will air in the wee, wee hours of Comedy Central after it premieres on the network in a couple of weeks. It’s funny, y’all. I can’t wait to see it again myself :)
