Pier For The Course

Yesterday was such an amazing day … I can’t even fully express … but I’m gonna do my best to share the fun with all y’all. David and I spent much of the day/night on the Santa Monica Pier enjoying the cloudy and cool weather. We got to the pier early enough so that I could run around taking Polaroid photos but the main attraction was our double date with Darion and Cameron to see the new Cirque du Soleil show KOOZÅ:

The folks over at Cirque du Soleil have always been so fantastic to David and me and last night was no exception. We were kindly invited to see their new show, KOOZÅ, which is performing daily at the Santa Monica Pier thru December 20. If you are at all familiar with Cirque shows, you know they are all fantastic … if you are not familiar, you need to see a show IMMEDIATELY … and KOOZÅ would be a great first show to see. The show has a circus feel to it but for the most part it’s all about acrobatics … I’m not even lying, we all spent much of our time Ooohing and Ahhhing out loud thru out the show. It just kept getting better and better. I’ve seen a few Cirque shows and I can happily declare that KOOZÅ is among my all-time faves. After the jump, check out a short video trailer for KOOZÅ to get a taste of what the show’s all about and see a whole bunch of cool photos that I snapped on the pier yesterday afternoon …

Seeing Is ‘Believe’ing

Last night David and I arrived in Las Vegas, NV a couple of hours after Darion did (stupid me booked the wrong flight times to coordinate with Darion) but we managed to get together without any problems. Darion, my hero, managed to secure really great rooms for us and did an amazing job planning out our time here in Sin City. I have to say, tho, that I was very surprised at how dead Vegas is these days. Usually, the airport is teeming with people but last night, it was really very empty. The casinos and streets, too, are devoid of people … it’s kinda sad. But, we had fun last night nonetheless. After a quick bite to eat at the Luxor Hotel and Casino, we made our way to the newest Cirque du Soleil show Criss Angel: Believe which is playing exclusively at the Luxor:

The show is really unlike any other Cirque du Soleil shows. Because it’s centered around Criss Angel and his magic act, the show has a much different feel from the other Cirque shows. I was very impressed with the staging and much of the performance but, to be honest, the show is a bit self-indulgent. The premise is that the show takes place inside the mind of Criss Angel — and there is some freaky stuff in there. Some of the costumes are very creepy but beautifully so. I’ve always been impressed with Angel’s illusions and he really delivers in this act. While I feel that there are portions of the show that need some tweaking (ie. the banter that Criss provides thruout the show kinda takes away from the imaginative experience of the show) I’m sure that fans of Criss Angel will love Believe. Interestingly enough, Wade Robson (who is directing Britney Spears’s upcoming tour The Circus starring Britney Spears) is the show’s choreographer … which makes sense cuz I really liked the dancing. Overall, I can see why some folks may not like the show (ie. the self-indulgence) but if you take the show for what it is — a Criss Angel spectacle — I think you’re in for a good time.

I have to send out special love and thanks to Lisa (pictured below), John and Jessica for taking such amazing care of us last night:

We had an absolute blast!! I also ran into Pink reader Sarah while we were in the Luxor casino, it was so great meeting you!!

Tonight, we’ll be at Planet Hollywood to see NIN on the last night of their Lights In The Sky Over North America Tour … I am excited BEYOND belief. Tonight’s show promises to be the best of the tour … I can’t wait to tell all y’all about it tomorrow :)
