When Trent Reznor Met Christian Bale

Awards shows tend to make for strange bedfellows … celebs that you’d never imagine hanging out together get thrown into the same room and are, well, kinda forced to hang out together. At the 83rd annual Academy Awards last weekend, Oscar winners Trent Reznor (Best Original Score) and Christian Bale (Best Supporting Actor) were spotted chatting together in a backstage, VIP area. I’m not sure what the full context of the photo is but the accompanying commentary on the Tumblr from whence this photo comes is all kinds of awesome.

The Usual Suspects
The 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards Are Handed Out

Last night the Screen Actors Guild Awards were handed out at The Shrine Auditorium here in Los Angeles, CA in the midst of awards season and, as you might expect, the same sort of folks who have been winning awards at previous award shows continued their streak last night. But, while it seemed like The Social Network was the film to beat for Best Picture, it’s becoming a bit more evident that The King’s Speech has taken the front-running position. Even still, films like Black Swan and The Fighter were honored as well.

'The Social Network', 'Glee' Win Big!
The 2011 Golden Globe Awards Are Handed Out

Celebs from film and television made their way out to The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA last night to attend the 2011 Golden Globe Awards. When host Ricky Gervais wasn’t brilliantly and hilariously skewering the folks in the audience, Golden Globe awards were being handed out to some lucky winners. Many of the awards went to the film The Social Network and the TV series Glee … but there were a few other winners as well.

'The Social Network' Wins BIG!
The 2011 Critics’ Choice Awards Are Handed Out

And so it begins … the first serious awards show of the new Awards Season took place last night as The BFCA Critics’ Choice Movie Awards were handed out at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, CA. Considered a good determiner of how the Academy Awards may turn out, the Critics’ Choice Awards tend to award the big prizes to the actors and films that will go on to win Oscars later on. The Social Network was the big winner of the night including Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Score and more!

"To be on the cover of 'Sports Illustrated' is an amazing accomplishment"
Mark Wahlberg & Christian Bale Do ‘Sports Illustrated’ Magazine

Marky Mark Wahlberg and his co-star Christian Bale, who both star in the new film The Fighter, are featured on the cover of the new issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. Wahlberg and Bale are among the lucky few non-athletes to nab an SI coverphoto … and they are very proud to have been chosen for the honor:

Mark Wahlberg not only received glowing reviews for his undertstated performance as the real-life junior welterweight Mickey Ward in The Fighter, but he unexpectedly landed a national magazine cover. Sports Illustrated features the actor, 39, stripped down to fighter gear, and lauds the film as the “Best Sports Movie of the Decade.” This also marks one of the rare times in the 56-year history of the publication that a non-athlete has graced the cover. Wahlberg’s Fighter costar, Christian Bale (who plays Mickey’s older half-brother and trainer, Dickie Eklund), poses with him. “As somebody who always dreamed of being a professional athlete,” Wahlberg says, “to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated is an amazing accomplishment.” In fact, it’s a knockout.

I’ve heard enough buzz about this film to make me want to see The Fighter. My initial reaction is that it would be exactly like The Wrestler but with boxing … but I cannot ignore all the great things I’m hearing about the film. I have no doubt that Christian Bale gives a stellar performance but I’m weary of Marky Mark. In my opinion, he always plays the same character in every film he does … and The Fighter looks like no exception. Still, I think I’ll have to see the film and judge for myself if all the hype is valid or not.

"He seems like he's a balls-out actor."
Christian Bale Reveals How Excited He Is To Work With Tom Hardy In ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Speaking with MTV on the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of The Fighter last night, Christian Bale gushed his excitement at the prospect of getting to work with actor Tom Hardy in the upcoming sequel film Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. As you may know, Hardy as been reportedly cast as Batman villain Hugo Strange in the upcoming film … and Bale is gettin’ all amped to face this new foe in head-to-head combat in the film:

“I liked him in ‘Inception’ and I did see ‘Bronson’ as well,” said Christian Bale — Bruce Wayne/Batman himself — in a recent interview with MTV News. “He seems like he’s a balls-out actor.” When we asked Bale if he was looking forward to Hardy as an opponent, he answered, “Yeah, sounds good.” Did Bale confirm that Hardy will in fact be a villain in “The Dark Knight Rises”? Did the “opponent” part of our question breeze right by Bale? While Bale left the door slightly open to returning for a fourth “Batman” flick, he seemed fairly convinced that “The Dark Knight Rises” will be his and Nolan’s final installment in the DC Comics franchise. “I think so. That’s up to Chris,” he said. “That was always what the discussion was. But you know, if Chris says, ‘I see another story here,’ then we’ll be up for it. But in my mind, I’m expecting this will be it.” Of course, there’s always the fanciful hope that Bale and Nolan will reunite a few decades from now for an adaptation of Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns,” which tells the story of a 55-year-old Bruce Wayne who comes out of retirement to become the Caped Crusader once again. “That maybe would not be bad,” Bale laughed of the idea. “Maybe in 20 years time, but you need that break.”

I’m prolly just as excited if not MORE excited by the prospect of these two fine hunks of beef going at it together in the new Batman film. I’m not sure if there is room in Christopher Nolan‘s script for any shirtless wrestling BALLS-OUT scenes between Bale and Hardy but … MMMMMM … wouldn’t that be nice?

'Fighter' club
‘The Fighter’ Premieres In Hollywood

Marky Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams were joined by a select group of guests at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA last night for the LA premiere of their new film The Fighter. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals:

I’m totally not feeling Christian‘s curly curls … at all. Marky Mark looked pretty good all clean cut and handsome. The Fighter smells to me like it’s trying to be this year’s The Wrestler. To be honest, Wahlberg plays the same character in almost every film so I’m thinkin’ I might have to take a pass on this one. If I do decide to check it out, it’ll be because I love Christian Bale‘s work (curly hair, notwithstanding). I’m not sure I’m all that interested in watching a movie about a down and out fighter who battles his way back to the top of the heap. Meh. It’s been done to death. Still … as I said, Bale is a big draw. Is this movie for you? Will you be paying out the $$$ to see The Fighter in theaters?

“This will be ... the last time I’ll be playing Batman"
Christian Bale Says The Next Batman Film May Be His Last

In a new interview with Christian Bale, he makes clear that the next Batman film — The Dark Knight Rises — will be his last … that is, unless he hears differently from director Christopher Nolan. Bale is currently on the promo train for his new film The Fighter and was asked about the just announced next Batman film … here is what he had to say:

This may be the end for the Dark Knight. The caped crusader himself, Christian Bale, recently sat down with E! News’ own Ben Lyons to talk about how he chooses his roles to clearing up rumors surrounding The Dark Knight Rises. Turns out, Bale has a very straightforward technique for sifting through all the speculation: “Until Chris [Nolan] tells me, I don’t believe it,” Bale says. “It’s gotta be from his mouth, or else I don’t really know.” But there’s one very important bit of information Nolan hasn’t yet shared with his star. And it’s kind of difficult to hear if you’re a fan of the reinvigorated franchise: “The thing is that this will be, I believe, unless Chris says different, this will be the last time I’m playing Batman.” Let’s just hope Chris says different.

It makes sense that Bale might believe that his days as Batman might be over after the next film, after all, these sorts of movie franchises really only last for 3 films. BUT, as we have learned from Johnny Depp‘s portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, there’s always a chance that movie franchises can live beyond just 3 films. While I think it is very smart for Bale to not believe anything he hears until he hears it from Christopher Nolan himself, I wouldn’t necessarily count on his Batman days being over just yet. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Batman in 'Wonderland'
Christian Bale & Family Do Disneyland

Earlier this week we learned that Halle Berry and estranged babydaddy Gabriel Aubry reunited in order to take their daughter Nahla Ariela to Disneyland and earlier this month we learned that Heidi Klum and her family spent a day at Disneyland in celebration of her 37th birthday. Today we get to see a few cute photos of Batman star Christian Bale and his family (wife Sibi Blažić and daughter Emmeline) enjoying part of yesterday at Disneyland:

Fans of Disney may recognize that the family is photographed here on the Alice in Wonderland ride in Fantasyland. It’s always so nice to see families looking so happy together … usually when Christian is spotted in public, he looks kinda glum. I love how happy he looks in these photos. I guess it’s kinda impossible to be pissy at Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth! Seeing these photos reminds me … I’m due for a trip down to Anaheim, CA — soon!

American psycho
Christian Bale Is Reportedly Ready To Become A US Citizen

After living in the US of A for about 20 years, it is being reported that Welsh actor Christian Bale (American Psycho, The Dark Knight, Public Enemies) is ready to legally become a US citizen. I have to say that if this report is true, then I would LOVE to be the first person to officially welcome Christian to the USA:

British actor Christian Bale has applied to become a U.S. citizen, according to tabloid reports. The “American Psycho” star has lived stateside for nearly 20 years and is married to an American, former model Sibi Blazic. The actor left his native Wales in 1976, lived in Europe and settled in the U.S. And according to U.S. magazine Star, he has decided to officially make the country his home. Bale and Blazic currently reside in Los Angeles with the couple’s daughter, Emmeline. A spokesperson for the actor had not responded to requests for comment as WENN went to press … He will … be seen playing Dick Eklund in upcoming movie “The Fighter”, along with Mark Wahlberg, Amy Adams, Melissa Leo, Jack McGee.

While I’m sure some of you are thinking, Great, just what we need is another actor … but it’s Christian Bale, y’all. Not only is he our (current) Batman but he consistently plays some of the most interesting characters on the big screen. Considering how long he’s lived here in the States, I can’t say I’m very surprised that he may be ready to take the plunge and become a naturalized citizen. I can’t say that I understand what it must feel like to want to claim citizenship of a foreign country but the US has been good to Bale and his family … and we’d be happy to have him. Very soon, he will be able to enjoy all of our country’s benefits … like taxes and jury duty … so let’s send him all our welcoming love and our warmest congrats!!
