Christian Bale: From Hottie To CRACK HEAD

The lengths Bale is willing to go thru for a movie role
Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Filming continues this week on the NYC set of the new film The Fighter, which stars Christian Bale as an ex-training coach turned crack user and Marky Mark Wahlberg as an up-and-coming fighter, as new scary photos from the set continue to come out. The latest pics of Christian Bale are really very horrifying to look at … especially in comparison to how amazingly hot the man looks usually … like, for example, the way he looked in his role as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho:

Say what you will about the man’s acting abilities (after all, he wasn’t all that great in Terminator: Salvation and was only marginally improved in Public Enemies … and don’t get me started on that voice he uses in the Batman films), he really outdoes himself physically when he prepares for a role. Christian Bale looks like a bona fide crack head in this new photo:

Yikes doesn’t even seem to encapsulate my feelings on this photo. I can deffo appreciate the mans commitment to his craft but I’m very much looking forward to the wrap of this movie so that Bale can go back to lookin’ hawt again. Yeesh.

Frail Bale & Beefy Marky Mark On The Set Of ‘The Fighter’

Thick & Thin
Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Yesterday we saw a couple of somewhat disturbing photos of a very gaunt-looking Christian Bale on the set of his new film The Fighter. In the flick, Bale plays a boxing coach turned drug addict and had to slim down for the role. Today we get to see another photo of Bale on set along with his Fighter co-star Mark Wahlberg who, as you can guess, plays a fighter in the film:

I love that this photo of Marky Mark reminds me of his infamous pants-dropping days back in the 90’s when he was a model for Calvin Klein underwear. Additionally, these new photos of Christian Frail remind me a lot of Jennifer Lopez’s husband Marc Anthony. I really hope the Skeletor-look doesn’t become a new thing in Hollywood. I like a little muscly meat on my men, don’t you?

Christian Bale Slims Down Significantly For His New Film ‘The Fighter’

Method acting
Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Christian Bale is an actor that is well-known for his intense commitment to getting into character when he is filming a new movie role. A few years ago, right before he donned the black cape and cowl for Batman Begins, Bale lost a significant amount of weight in order to portray a deathly thin character in his film The Machinist (incidentally, within a few months after he completed work on Machinist, he bulked up for his role in Batman). It appears that Bale is at it again. Here are a couple of photos of Christian on the set of his new film The Fighter wherein he plays a boxer turned drug addict:

Yeesh … Christian does look really gaunt and really frail. He deffo has that cracked out druggie look going for him. But, in case you’re not familiar with his film The Machinist, he slimmed down a lot more for that film:

Christian’s bone-thin appearance was not due to special effects … he actually lost all the weight to look this painfully thin for the role. You gotta respect an actor that will go to such lengths for a movie role. He looks terrible but it’s clearly the look he is going for. Yikes!

‘Public Enemies’ Premieres In Hollywood

Well, Westwood technically but you know what I mean
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard and others were on hand for the Hollywood premiere of their new film Public Enemies which took place during the LA Film Festival in Westwood, CA last night. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals and some deets on last night’s event:

Both began their careers in the mid-’80s with instant classics (”Empire of the Sun,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street”), matured as actors with critically acclaimed roles in the ’90s (”Ed Wood,” “American Psycho”) and broke through with iconic characters in recent years (the “Pirates” and “Batman” films). Both possess the rare quality of making women want them and men want to be like them — and the even rarer skill of being indie-minded actors who lose no credibility when they delve into blockbuster territory. And on Tuesday evening, the remarkably similar career trajectories of Johnny Depp and Christian Bale converged on a red carpet full of gals, guns and gangsters at the premiere of “Public Enemies.” “We are both fellas, and both dads, and both in the same profession,” Depp, who plays notorious outlaw John Dillinger in the flick, explained of his similarities to Bale. “He’s very good, and tremendously talented.” “He’s a very unique actor,” returned Bale, who spends “Enemies” in hot pursuit of Depp’s Dillinger as FBI agent Melvin Purvis. “And I admire his work.” “Both are so intense and so committed and generous,” marveled Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, who plays Depp’s love interest in the Michael Mann flick. “It’s a really hard question: How do you compare something unique to something unique?” Another unique pop-culture phenomenon is our continuing fascination with the American gangster. Although Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Frank Nitti, Baby Face Nelson and other “Enemies” characters saw their real-life glory days some 70 years ago, we’re still enamored with them. So, what is it that makes gangsters so timeless? “Dillinger, you see, he was a bit more of an outlaw,” Depp explained. “The best thing about being an outlaw was the machine gun — and unlimited ammunition.” “The finest cars,” Bale said of the gangster life. “[Their] cars have this artistry, and they have a sense of the character.” “You can make your own rules, and bend the rules,” reasoned Leelee Sobieski, who plays another Dillinger flame in the film. “[When you're a gangster], crazy things will happen.” “Just saying the name ‘gangster’ — the hats, women and cars,” agreed Jason Clarke, who works alongside Depp in the film as fellow outlaw “Red” Hamilton. “They were guys that did what they wanted.” And speaking of people who can do whatever they want, it was hard to not notice the gangster-like power wielded by Depp and Bale as they walked the red carpet, greeted by shrieks of adoring fans. “I had a crush on Johnny when I was 6 years old,” Sobieski gushed. “I loved him in ‘Cry-Baby’!”

Yeah, I don’t know what it is about the romantic nature of gangsters but I feel that this impressive cast of actors will do a great service to that romantic notion and will do much to revive their appeal. I think the casting for this film is genius … as long as the writing in the film is decent, I suspect this movie will do very well. After the jump, check out a short video interview with Johnny Depp conducted by MTV News — the questions are kinda inane but Depp does a great job responding …

‘Terminator: Salvation’ Premieres In Hollywood

The Resistance isn't futile
Friday, May 15th, 2009

Christian Bale, Aussie newcomer Sam Worthington and more were on hand here in LA last night for the Hollywood premiere of their new movie Terminator: Salvation. Celebs of varying degree made their way out to Grauman’s Chinese Theater for last night’s event. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals along with a report from last night’s soiree:

Christian Bale was all smiles during his red carpet walk for the premiere of his latest action film “Terminator Salvation” held at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Thursday, May 14. No sign of that angry actor who so famously went off on the film’s director of photography; instead, he hugged his wife Sibi Blazic to his side and behaved. Perhaps that’s because it isn’t Bale who is getting all the attention for this fourth installment in “The Terminator” series that began way back in 1984. That honor goes to Australian actor Sam Worthington, who breaks out in a big way in the massive action flick. The former bricklayer from Perth is the man of the hour, as was obvious at the elaborate after party set up in a parking lot across Hollywood Boulevard. As spotlights swept the scene and massive robots loomed over the revelers, Worthington was mobbed by excited new fans. He hung on tight to girlfriend Natalie Mark, and seemed to take it all in stride. “I think I’m in a lucky position to be getting offered roles that I find interesting,” said the 32-year-old actor who spent ten years working in Australian film, television, and theater before taking the leap to Hollywood. “I’m working with some very talented people and hopefully telling some good stories. And hopefully my work isn’t going to let those people down.” His co-stars on hand seemed happy with his performance as they did the meet-and-greet at the premiere. Moon Bloodgood, Jane Alexander, Anton Yelchin and Bryce Dallas Howard all made the star-studded scene, along with “Terminator” fans like Rose McGowan, Eric Dane, Anil Kapoor, Tyrese Gibson, Kathryn Morris, Brook Burke, Eric Mabius, and Kelly Osbourne. But despite the rumors swirling around the party, it turned out that California’s governor and the original star of “The Terminator” Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver did not make the premiere. They did, however send three of their children to the celebration. Katherine, Patrick, and Christopher Schwarzenegger represented the family, and watched their dad’s robot character return to the role that made him a household name 25 years ago.

It is a huge compliment to get top billing with a star like Christian Bale so it seems that Sam Worthington is really making his mark in Hollywood. You will note that both of their names are listed on the poster artwork for this film. I am not familiar with any of Worthington’s previous work but something tells me that we will be hearing a lot more about him soon. I understand that he has signed on to appear in the new James Cameron big budget blockbuster Avatar and he will be starring in the updated remake of Clash of the Titans. I am really anxious to see Terminator: Salvation cuz I’ve been hearing really great things. Here’s hopin’ the Aussie can keep up with the superstar Welsh Brit and hold his own as a leading man in this much anticipated action flick.

‘Public Enemies’ Releases A New Batch Of Movie Posters

Johnny! Christian! Marion!
Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard are among the big names starring in this Summer’s cops & robbers film Public Enemies which tells the tale of the notorious crime wave that gripped the nation back in 1930 … making pseudo-celebrities out of criminals like John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd. Here is our first look at a new movie poster which features Johnny Depp, who stars as John Dillinger in the film:

I used to be fascinated with the notion that bank robbers could become celebrities in this country but never quite could believe it … of course, this was in the days before the Internet and Reality TV took over the public consciousness. Now I can understand how something like that could happen very easily … tho, it still amazes me that this celeb status could so easily spring up back in the 1930s. I can’t wait to see this film … I hear it’s going to be amazing. After the jump, check out two more posters from Public Enemies — one which features Christian Bale (as Melvin Purvis) and one which features Marion Cotillard (as Billie Frechette) …

David ‘The Dentist Kid’ Meets An Irate Christian Bale

Mash-up hilarity ensues
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

In the milliseconds after that audio recording of Christian Bale verbally berating the Director of Photography on the set of his new movie Terminator: Salvation came out last week, ardent fans of the clip began remixing Bale’s rant and created entertaining new viral videos which have been making the rounds online for the past few days. My friends at Oh La La Mag pointed me to a new vid mash-up that is ABSOLUTELY the best of the bunch. Remember that video of the little kid who was videoed while under the effects of laughing gas after a trip to the dentist? Yeah, well in this new clip that kid meets Christian Bale and … well, take a listen for yourself — be warned, the Christian Bale’s language is pretty graphic and very NSFW:

LOLOLOL! I mean … this vid is the best of both worlds. I found most of the Bale mash-up videos/songs/etc. only marginally funny … but this one is pretty damn funny (altho, some might disagree). Honestly, I just love this little loopy kid so much … pair him up with anything and I’d prolly enjoy it. So … funny? Y?
