Brown will be in court on Monday as scheduled
The California Supreme Court Refuses To Delay Chris Brown’s Court Hearing

Yesterday we learned that Chris Brown‘s attorney, Mark Geragos, filed an appeal with the California Supreme Court (the highest court in the State) to ask that Brown‘s court hearing on Monday June 22 be delayed so that Garagos could have more time to prepare. A similar request was asked of a lower California court but it was already denied. On Wednesday, the California Supreme Court also denied Geragos‘s request for a delay … meaning that Chris Brown and all interested parties (including the alleged assault victim, Rihanna, who has been subpoenaed to appear at the hearing) will be in court on Monday to begin the proceedings of his criminal trial:

The California Supreme Court on Wednesday denied a request to delay an upcoming hearing in the case of R&B singer Chris Brown, who is accused of assaulting his former girlfriend, pop star Rihanna. Brown’s Los Angeles-based attorney Mark Geragos sought to delay a hearing set for Monday, but that hearing will now go on as scheduled with Brown, whose hit records include “Kiss Kiss” and “Run It,” expected to appear, according to court records. At the hearing, evidence is expected to be presented against Brown, who is accused of having assaulted and made criminal threats to “Umbrella” singer Rihanna in February following a Los Angeles party on the eve of the music industry’s Grammy awards. Geragos was seeking information about a police probe into a photo of Rihanna, looking bruised and bloody, that was taken by Los Angeles detectives after the alleged assault and later leaked to the media. A lower court judge had denied Geragos’ request saying it was too soon to seek information about the leak, and the state Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld that ruling, according to a posting of the decision on the court’s website. Brown has pleaded not guilty in the case. He faces up to four years in prison if convicted. An attorney for Rihanna, has said that if requested she will testify against her former boyfriend at Monday’s hearing.

And that, my friends, is that. Barring any outrageous incidents between now and Monday, Chris Brown will be hauled into court to begin facing the music for his alleged assault of Rihanna. It should be clarified that none of Geragos‘s legal wrangling is any proof of Brown‘s guilt but it does make it seem as if they would do anything to keep from having the trial get underway. I suppose one might imagine that a totally innocent person would welcome the chance to prove their innocence in a court of law … but, for whatever reason, Brown‘s legal team thinks it is best to delay, delay, delay. Again, anything could happen before Monday to cause a hearing delay (illness, alien invasion, Armageddon) but … my guess is that the hearing will go on as scheduled … much to Chris Brown‘s chagrin.

'Cuz his time is running out
Chris Brown Asks The California Supreme Court For More Time

Chris Brown‘s attorney, Mark Garagos, filed a motion with the California Supreme Court yesterday asking the high court to delay the start of Brown‘s criminal trial proceedings which are scheduled to get underway this coming Monday. Garagos first asked the LA District Court for this court hearing delay but he was brutally rebuffed … so Garagos decided to appeal to a higher power. As yet, the California Supreme Court has not ruled on this motion … but you know that Brown must be shakin’ in his sneakers that his day of reckoning is growing ever closer:

An attorney for R&B singer Chris Brown has asked the California Supreme Court to delay the assault case against the pop star until it can rule on the lawyer’s attempt to get information from police. Court records showed on Tuesday that the court has not ruled on the request by attorney Mark Geragos, who is defending the 20-year-old Brown against a charge that in February he beat former girlfriend Rihanna, who is also a pop star. Geragos’ appeal with the California Supreme Court seeks to delay a Los Angeles Superior Court hearing set for Monday. Geragos is seeking the delay while he asks the California Supreme Court to rule on his request for information from Los Angeles police. Geragos wants details on a police probe of a photo leak that showed Rihanna looking bruised and bloodied. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg last month denied Geragos’ request for information about the photo leak, saying it was too early in the case to deal with that. Rihanna, 21, has been called to appear at the Los Angeles court hearing set for Monday and if asked to testify, her attorney has said she will do so. Brown would also be present.

While it is true that all attorneys do everything they can to delay court appearances for as long as possible in order to prepare the best case possible for their clients, you can kinda smell the desperation coming from the Brown camp. I’m absolutely certain that Brown does NOT want to see the inside of a courtroom again — especially if it means that he may be forced to eventually see the inside of a jail cell as a result of that court appearance. I’m sure Brown‘s team was hoping that the case would be dismissed or settled by now … but, thus far, that has not been the case. I find it highly unlikely that the California Supreme Court will rule to delay Monday’s court hearing but … I suppose you just never know. If the SC denies Garagos‘s motion then all the interested parties (including the alleged victim Rihanna) should be in court on Monday. After all these months since the alleged assault took place … the case may finally getting underway.

Who dat?
Chris Brown Finds Himself A Rihanna Look-Alike

Chris Brown was spotted in the company of his brother Quincy at the LA Lakers vs. Orlando Magic basketball game in Orlando, FL last night … but it was their female companion that turned everyone’s heads. Chris showed up at the game with a woman who looked almost exactly like his ex-girlfriend Rihanna (who he stands accused of assaulting back in February). It turns out that the Rihanna look-alike is an “up-and coming singer” named Teyana Taylor … and it seems very odd that she would step out with Chris Brown lookin’ as much like Rihanna as possible:

Troubled R&B star Chris Brown stunned basketball fans last night when he turned up with a Rihanna lookalike. Just three days after Chris and his ex were spotted sitting far apart at a basketball game last week, he attended the NBA finals in Florida with a dead ringer for the famous singer. At first glance, many fans could have been forgiven for thinking Rihanna, 21, had reconciled with Chris, 20, following her alleged assault by him four months ago. Despite the similar dress sense and hairstyle, the woman in question was actually upcoming singer/rapper Teyana Taylor, 18. Chris, his brother Quincy Brown and Teyana had prime seats in the front row courtside as the LA Lakers took on Orlando Magic in Orlando. They cheered as the Lakers ended up beating Orlando 98-86 and clinching this year’s NBA championship title. The relationship between Teyana and Chris is not known, but the pair could be working together as both are currently recording albums. Teyana found fame as a spoilt teenager on MTV documentary My Super Sweet 16 and choreographed the video to Beyonce Knowles’s 2006 single Ring The Alarm when she was just 15. Rihanna was spotted attending several LA Lakers games last week, but surprisingly opted out of the basketball team’s biggest game on Sunday. Perhaps her ex-boyfriend’s attendance at the last match may have prompted her decision to sit out the final.

HMMMM … I suppose it’s entirely possible that Teyana just happened to look like Rihanna but it seems more calculated than that. Perhaps I’m just being paranoid but … c’mon now — they look very much alike … this strikes me very obviously as a publicity stunt. Just one week from today, Rihanna will be compelled by the LA District Attorney to appear at a court hearing here in LA to determine if there is enough evidence to move forward with Chris Brown‘s criminal trial for allegedly assaulting her. I believe that the initial court stuff begins on June 22. Very soon we’ll know one way or another if Brown will go on trial for his alleged assault of Rihanna. His days of enjoying life may very-well be numbered.

No nekkids here, tho
Personal Photos Of Rihanna Leak To The Internets

Personal photos of Rihanna and possibly Chris Brown have been leaked to the Internets, causing a huge stir all around the world wide web. Some of the photos definitely are of Rihanna while other photos, showing a nekkid female, could be her but since her head is cut off in those photos there is no way to be absolutely sure. Her record company is firing off legal warnings to sites that are posting the nude pics but the careful wording of the docs neither confirm nor deny that it is Rihanna in the nekkid photos (“unauthorized photos purported to be…Rihanna”). Also, a photo of a guy who looks A LOT like Chris Brown wearing women’s panties on his head has also leaked to the web … lending credence to the belief that all of these photos came from the same source and are of Rihanna. Here are a few of the leaked pics in question and some info about from whence they came:

Rihanna has become involved in a naked photo scandal after a series of raunchy shots allegedly showing the singer were posted on the internet. The six self-taken images have appeared online just days after topless pictures of R’n'B starlet Cassie Ventura were leaked on the net. One of the revealing photos shows a scantily-clad woman, resembling Rihanna, in front of a mirror scrawled with the message: “I love you, Robyn. I miss you”. The Barbados-born singer’s real name is Robyn Fenty. Rihanna, 21, can only be clearly seen in two of the photos, in which she is fully clothed. However the woman’s face is not visible in the naked pictures, leading to doubt over the authenticity of the pictures. Another picture shows a man who bares a striking resemblance to Rihanna’s ex-boyfriend Chris Brown with a pair of pink knickers on his head. According to gossip site TMZ, the record company has called the [nude] photos a violation of “the artist’s rights”, but have not denied or confirmed if the pictures are authentic.Rihanna herself has not released a statement about the pictures.

HMM, it seems to me that the record company would not be firing off warnings if the nekkid pics weren’t of Rihanna. There is no way that nude pics of another woman would violate her “artist’s rights”. The nudies can be seen elsewhere on the web but I would be remiss if I didn’t at least share the non-nudes with all y’all. It’s unclear exactly where these photos came from. The shot of the mirror had to be taken on Rihanna‘s cameraphone (which she is holding in the photo). Someone with access to her personal computer files must’ve leaked the photos. I doubt Chris Brown had anything to do with this leak, I doubt he’d include the pic of him wearing women’s panties on his head if he were responsible for the leak. It’s just another lesson that if you take nekkid pics of yourself and you keep them around … they have a pretty high likelihood of getting out — particularly if you are a celeb.

Trying to get off the hook
Chris Brown’s Legal Defense Is Starting To Show

As the court date looms for singer Chris Brown to face charges that he physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend Rihanna last February, a new report has surfaced that shows that his legal team — led by his attorney Mark Garagos — is preparing their case to try and have all charges against Brown dismissed on the grounds of the police’s mismanagement of evidence (ie. the leaking of the photo of Rihanna‘s assault injuries). If Garagos gets his way, the entire matter could be dismissed without Brown having to answer to the charges and could get off scott free:

Chris Brown’s legal team is on the move. The singer’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, filed a request in a Los Angeles court Wednesday seeking access to LAPD records, arguing that Rihanna’s injury photo – widely distributed on the Web – was “illegally leaked to the media” by police and may result in a case dismissal, RadarOnline reports. “I am informed and believe that this highly prejudicial photograph was sold by an LAPD officer to the entertainment website, TMZ,” Geragos states. “The photograph was immediately viewed by hundreds of thousands of viewers and was displayed on every news channel for several weeks … The purpose of the leak was necessarily for profit and to vilify Mr. Brown and poison the potential jury pool.” Geragos adds that if LAPD records show “dishonest conduct” by its officers, “I intend to use such evidence at the preliminary hearing to attack their credibility … I believe there is a reasonable likelihood that the case will be dismissed at the preliminary hearing.” Will Geragos’s gambit work? A judge will decide. But, says L.A. criminal defense attorney Jeffery Rubenstein, who’s not involved in the case: “It’s unlikely the judge will dismiss the case on the grounds of leaked evidence. It’s not police conduct at issue here, it’s Chris Brown’s.” Brown, 20, has pleaded not guilty to allegedly beating Rihanna on Feb. 8. A preliminary hearing, in which the court determines if there’s enough evidence for trial, is to begin within eight court days of May 28. But the case could potentially end with a plea bargain at any time.

I can’t say that I blame Garagos for taking this route to having the case dismissed … his entire job is get his client off as entirely and as quickly as possible. That said, it really will be up to the ruling judge to determine if the case should be dismissed. I agree, tho, that the issue at hand is not the behavior of the LAPD — it’s Brown‘s alleged assault against Rihanna. For the sake of justice, I really hope this case does not get dismissed. If Chris Brown really is “not guilty” as he asserts then he should welcome the chance to prove so in a court of law. My guts tell me that Brown will at some point work out a plea bargain. If the case looks like it’s going to trial, I think he’ll work out a deal (the prosecutor wants some amount of jail time) and face as little punishment as possible. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Natalie Mejia gives new interview implying otherwise
Chris Brown Denies Dating Natalie Mejia

Yesterday we saw a new photo of embattled singer Chris Brown, who is currently awaiting trial on his 2 felony charges of battery and assault against girlfriend Rihanna, with Girlicious singer Natalie Mejia at an LA tattoo parlor on Sunset Blvd. over the weekend and it was assumed that the pair were there together and possibly dating. Today, Brown is speaking thru his rep to deny that he is dating Mejia:

Chris Brown is denying reports that he’s getting romantic with Girlicious singer Natalie Mejia. The R&B singer, 19, was photographed with Mejia, 20, and another man on Saturday at West Hollywood tattoo parlor Tattoo Mania, where Brown has been inked before, a source tells PEOPLE. “Chris was in a Hollywood tattoo parlor with a woman from the recording studio named Dean, who was getting a tattoo. (Chris did not get a tattoo),” Brown’s rep tells PEOPLE. “Natalie Mejia was there with Dean. [Reports in other media] that Natalie Mejia is Chris’s new girlfriend are also false,” says the rep, adding that other rumors claiming Brown is dating a Virginia college student named Erica Jackson are also not true. So what about Brown and Rihanna, 21? Although the pair decided to take some time apart last month, a source tells PEOPLE that the singers spent time hanging out together over Easter weekend. A source at Tattoo Mania confirms that Brown has been tattooed there several times before, but did not plan to get a new tattoo Saturday. Brown and his party were asked to return later in the day because the shop was busy, but they didn’t come back.

But while Chris Brown is adamant that he and Mejia are NOT together, she is implying otherwise. In an interview with Radar Online, Mejia coyly discusses her sighting with Chris Brown and offers just enough information to imply that the couple may be together:

The stunning new girl on Chris Brown’s arm, Natalie Mejia, tells RadarOnline.com exclusively that Brown has been a total “gentlemen.” Mejia, of The CW’s Girlicious, was spotted with the embattled R&B singer this past Saturday in Los Angeles, visiting a Sunset Blvd tattoo parlor. Meija tells us “it’s true we did visit a tattoo parlor together but I can’t say if we got anything done because that is personal.” While reports indicate the pair visited the shop for just ten minutes, Mejia says “things are going well between us but I really do not want to comment much more than that right now.” The sexy singer maintains that Brown “has treated me like a [sic] gentleman at all times actually and there are no complaints.” She would not elaborate on she and Brown’s initial meeting or courtship thus far. She does wax philosophical on her MySpace page, however: “Life is too short to wake-up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who treat you right, forget about the ones who don’t and believe everything happens for a reason.”

It’s clear that Natalie wants to ensure that people get a sense that the pair are together (“things are going well between us”) while Chris wants to make clear that the pair are not together (“Natalie Mejia was there with Dean. [Reports in other media] that Natalie Mejia is Chris’s new girlfriend are also false”). In this case, I believe that Brown and Mejia are not actually together … particularly because I tend to believe that he and Rihanna are still seeing each other secretly. Honestly tho, if Brown were really trying to keep his covert relationship with Ri Ri on the down low then he should play up his association with Natalie Mejia (which would make her so happy, no doubt) but, alas, not so. If the sources are to be believed (and I do believe them), ChRihanna are still in full effect.

Meet Chris's 'Girlicious' new catch
Chris Brown Moves On With A New Girlfriend?

Chris Brown, who is currently waiting for his case of alleged assault and battery against ex-girlfriend Rihanna to go to trial, was spotted in the company of a new female friend this weekend as the pair made their way to a tattoo parlor on Sunset Blvd. in LA to reportedly pick out his next tattoo. Here is a pic of Chris and Natalie Mejia (a member of the pop group Girlicious who was unsuccessfully trying to avoid detection) together at the tattoo shop this past Saturday afternoon:

I suppose it’s entirely in the realm of possibility that the two are just friends but it could equally be possible that they are a new romantic item. I had suspected that Chris and Rihanna were keeping their distance in order to make it seem as if they were really on the outs but now that Chris is chillin’ with a new lady, their break-up might actually be for real (or, this Natalie chick is just part of the game). HMMM … could Chris have his sights set on starting up a new relationship with Natalie? Does she really know what she’s getting herself into?

No plea bargain was reached, will be back in court on April 29
Chris Brown Formally Pleads ‘Not Guilty’ To Felony Assault Charges

Chris Brown, as expected, was in LA court Monday afternoon to enter a plea of not guilty to the two felony charges that he has been charged with (felony assault and making a criminal threat) in the wake of the alleged assault of his girlfriend Rihanna in the early morning hours of February 8. It was reported that Brown‘s lawyer had been working furiously with the LA District Attorney to try and work out a plea bargain wherein Brown might admit guilt but serve no jailtime … clearly, that deal could not be worked out so the prosecutor’s office moved forward with Brown‘s arraignment Monday afternoon:

R&B star Chris Brown pleaded not guilty in a Los Angeles court on Monday to charges stemming from an alleged attack on his girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna. Brown, 19, entered the pleas during his arraignment in Los Angeles Superior Court. Rihanna’s attorney, Donald Etra, told reporters after the hearing that Rihanna hoped a plea bargain could be struck but that she would testify against Brown if required. Brown and his attorney Mark Geragos did not speak to reporters. Judge Patricia Schnegg set an April 29 status hearing for Brown. Los Angeles prosecutors have said Brown attacked Rihanna, 21, during a roadside dispute in his rented Lamborghini last February. A photo of Rihanna’s bruised and battered face was leaked onto the Internet. Brown later issued a statement saying he was “sorry and saddened” about the incident, and was seeking counseling. The formal charges accuse Brown of assaulting Rihanna “by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury” and threatening to commit a crime “which would result in death and great bodily injury.” He could face up to four years in prison if convicted. A police affidavit said Brown shoved Rihanna’s head against the passenger window, repeatedly punched her in the face, bit her ear and finger, and put her into a headlock. At one stage, the affidavit said, Brown told Rihanna: “I’m going to kill you.”

I have to say, I am RELIEVED the the LA District Attorney’s office is diligently moving forward with this case and seems uninterested in working out a deal where Brown would get off without serving any jailtime. It seems clear that the prosecutor’s office feels confident in the evidence that they have in the case to move forward with the case. I worried that Brown‘s legal team might be able to work out a sweet deal for him but, judging by today’s outcome, that seems unlikely. It remains to be seen if Brown would eventually be willing to agree to jailtime in order to avoid a trial but, even then, the prosecutor’s office might choose to still move forward with the trial in order to secure the maximum punishment allowed by law. The fact that Chris Brown himself admitted some bit of guilt by releasing his “sorry and saddened” statement about a week after the alleged assault took place seems pretty clear to me that he is guilty of these crimes. Here’s hoping the LA District Attorney will work to ensure that he ends up paying for those crimes. Thus far, it looks like that’s the way things are shaping up.

The reconciliation moves forward, turns professional
Rihanna & Chris Brown Reportedly Working Together Again

While Chris Brown awaits his rescheduled date in court after his lawyers successfully won a continuance in his case, we are hearing new information that is somewhat surprising to me. According to TMZ, Chris and Rihanna have decided to work together on a new duet for a song that is meant to focus “on overcoming difficult challenges as a couple”:

TMZ now has all the details about the secret late-night recording sessions between Rihanna and Chris Brown — and they were jam-packed with emotion and serious drama, with some playful touching — seriously. The whole thing came together when they decided to reconcile shortly after the attack. Sources tell us music producer Polow Da Don convinced both Chris and Rihanna to get in the studio and record a love song stat, stressing that timing was important because the heightened emotions would translate powerfully into the music. Both Rihanna and Chris agreed and snuck in a couple of “late night” sessions that we’re told were “very, very emotional … the feeling in the room was pure love.” Clearly, love hurts. As for how they got along, they were “playfully touching each other.” We’re told the song was originally written for Rihanna before the fight, but after the beat down the producer believed the track — which ironically focuses on overcoming difficult challenges as a couple — would be the perfect duet.

Clearly, Rihanna and Chris just want to move forward and pretend as if nothing happened. By working together professionally on a song that may one day get radio play, they prolly figure that they are just “working thru their problems” and everything will be OK in the end … which works out fine for Chris. In this instance, he has EVERYTHING to gain from this scenario and nothing at all to lose. What saddens me is not only did Rihanna get battered but now she has decided to take an active part in trying to help Chris out of his problem. Where is the positive for her? Oh, that’s right, she gets to stay with Chris Brown. Man … in my opinion, both of these kids need help and bad. I’m at a loss … and I have to say, I have NO interest in hearing any duets from these two ever in the future.

More time for him to strike a plea bargain?
Chris Brown Appears In Court, Gets Case Pushed To April

It only took 4 minutes and 20 seconds for Chris Brown to have his first day in court. Yesterday we learned that Chris Brown was being charged with 2 felony charges stemming from the alleged assault he is said to have perpetrated on his girlfriend Rihanna in the early morning hours of February 8. New court documents were released that gave Rihanna‘s gruesome account to police about what she claimed Chris Brown did to her (punching, choking and biting are among the ways she claimed he assaulted her that morning) and Chris was scheduled to go before the court at approx. 3:30PM PT to face the music. BUT, Chris did not enter a plea … instead, his lawyer asked the court to continue the case for a later date. The judge agreed and Brown is to be back in court on April 6. Here are a few photos of Chris Brown in court yesterday afternoon:

Chris Brown and his attorney Mark Geragos did not enter a plea to the two felony charges. In a proceeding that took roughly 4 minutes and 20 seconds, the judge granted Brown’s request to move the arraignment to April 6th. It is unclear why they wanted to postpone the case — possibly to conduct further investigations or possibly to strike a plea deal. We just don’t know… Based on our information, it seems Brown wants to avoid a trial at all costs because the picture of Rihanna taken one day after the incident — which has not been seen anywhere publicly — is unbelievable. During the proceeding, Brown signed a waiver of presence, allowing his lawyer to act on his behalf — meaning he won’t have to show up to any minor court proceedings before April 6th. Brown, who stood emotionless in court, spoke only four words to the judge — “yes,” “yes,” and “yes ma’am.” After Brown’s request to continue the case had been granted, the judge warned Brown, “You are not to annoy, harass, molest, threaten or use force or violence against anyone.” The judge asked Rihanna’s attorney Donald Etra if there was a “no-contact order” in place, to which Etra replied, “Miss Fenty [Rihanna] does not request such an order.” Etra is famous for repping Snoop Dogg in multiple court cases throughout the years.

Extra! TV was also in the courtroom yesterday and they claim to have overheard an exchange between Rihanna‘s legal counsel and Brown’s legal counsel which makes it sound like she is not willing to partake in prosecuting Chris Brown for his alleged crimes:

A conversation between Rihanna’s attorney Donald Etra and Chris Brown was overheard while they were standing in front of the microphone immediately following Brown’s hearing this afternoon. Etra approached Brown and said, “I think Rihanna would like this over as quickly as possible. It benefits everybody.” Brown told Etra, “I’m a little confused on the terms of everything… and the proceedings and what’s going on.” Etra responded, “Mark [Geragos, Brown's attorney] will explain it and I’ll explain it to Rihanna.” Stepping in, Geragos said, “I’ve explained it to you that the best thing that could happen in this case is Don is involved. Didn’t I tell you that?” Etra added, “And I would say to you that the best thing to you is that Mark is involved.” The judge moved Brown’s request for a continuance to April 6. In addition, the judge did not grant a “no-contact order.”

It is becoming even more clear, even beyond the fact that Rihanna has already reconciled with Chris Brown, that she seems totally uninterested in working with the State to punish Brown for his alleged crimes. On that, I’m not sure what to say. I will say, tho, that I truly hope that the prosecutor’s office will remain steadfast in their zeal to punish Chris Brown. Altho Rihanna seems ready to forgive, I feel it is STILL worth it to her (and to any future women who might be battered in the future) to have a criminally dangerous person like the person described in her account to police be put behind bars. If the State is able to prove that Chris Brown is guilty of these allegations then he needs to be thrown in jail … whether Rihanna or anyone else likes it or not. I honestly believe the account she gave to the police that night … the injuries that we saw on her battered face seem to corroborate her account. A person who is capable of battering someone like that is NOT a first time offender, in my opinion. My fear is that someone who is capable of assaulting someone in this manner will likely do it again and again and again. Any person found guilty of these crimes MUST be incarcerated. I honestly pray that the LA District Attorney does everything in his power to fully prosecute this crime to the full extent of the law. A continuance like the one granted yesterday offers more time to work up a deal to get off the hook … I pray that no such deal will ever come. Let the case go to trial and let the evidence speak for itself. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
