Chick-Fil-A Breaks Ground On Their Hollywood Location

Earlier this month we learned the EXCITING news that Chick-Fil-A is finally planning to open a restaurant in Hollywood, CA next Summer and yesterday they broke ground on the new restaurant site! Chick-Fil-A Hollywood will open on Sunset and Highland in Summer 2011 … here are a few photos and tweets from yesterday’s groundbreaking demolition event:

Sunset & Highland, Hollywood, CA / It’s official! Construction of @CFAHollywood is underway. Opening Summer 2011!

As excited as I was about the news we received earlier this month about the new Chick-Fil-A in Hollywood, I couldn’t let myself get too excited until I saw something more concrete … this groundbreaking event really did it for me. It is very clear that Chick-Fil-A IS coming to Hollywood next year … and I cannot WAIT! After the jump, check out video from yesterday’s groundbreaking event and get excited — a new Chick-Fil-A is on the way!

Chick-Fil-A Is FINALLY Coming To Hollywood

At long last … Hollywood, CA is finally, actually, most assuredly getting a Chick-Fil-A restaurant … after many years of rumor and conjecture. As you may recall, Ryan Seacrest spilled the beans on this Hollywood Chick-Fil-A back in August … and while I was happy to hear the news, I wasn’t going to start counting my chicks before they hatched. BUT, it would appear, that plans for the Hollywood Chick-Fil-A are actually a go and it is scheduled to open in Summer 2011:

It’s confirmed (now that we’re in the year 2010 and Facebook is a credible journalistic source): fast food chain Chick-fil-A (@CFAhollywood) will open a franchise in Hollywood in summer 2011. Though Chick-fil-A has eateries all over the rest of the country, this will be only the second franchise in Los Angeles proper. (The first is located near USC at 3758 S. Figueroa Street.) Hot rumor of the day: The Hollywood Chick-fil-A will be located at the southeast corner of Highland Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard, where Del Taco once stood.

The eatery already has an official Facebook profile HERE. While I am exceedingly happy to hear this latest development, I will not really get happy until I see construction commence on the hallowed ground … or until the Chick-Fil-A sign goes up. Still … I am very encouraged by this happy news ;D

Just One Fix

Yesterday afternoon, David and I went for a leisurely drive down to Redondo Beach, CA so that we could enjoy a quiet dinner together at the South Bay Galleria Mall. That’s right, we were in the mood for some Chick-Fil-A:

Despite the fact that a new Chick-Fil-A store opened in LA, it’s proximity to where we live isn’t all that better than the Redondo Beach location we frequent all the time so we decided to hit up our old haunt for dinner. While we shopped around the mall, I was taken by a display of very colorful Swatch watches that caught my eye:

As I mentioned before, I’ve been a BIG Swatch fan for years (yes, since the late 80′s/early 90′s) and I’m currently obsessed with their new designs and, well, I have a hard time resisting pink things ;) I kinda love that my new Swatch goes perfectly with the new corded telephone I picked up earlier this week. Yes, folks, I’m living in the past … and I love it :)

Tonight, David and I will be celebrating our friend David Brind’s birthday at a soiree here in town … so it should be a blast!! Wee.

Hollywood, CA Is Getting Its First Chick-Fil-A Restaurant

For the past couple of years there have been RAMPANT rumors that my fave fast food restaurant in the world — Chick-Fil-A — would be opening a store here in Hollywood, CA. Just last week, a Chick-Fil-A restaurant opened in downtown LA near the campus of University of Southern California … which, I assumed, would be the closest store to open near where I live. Today, Ryan Seacrest posted a message on his official Facebook profile that claims that another Chick-Fil-A store will open soon right here in Hollywood, within walking distance of the Hollywood Walk of Fame! This, my friends, is THE BEST NEWS EVER! Here is the full text of Seacrest‘s message:

This is music to my ears. A little birdie told me that Chick-fil-A is coming to Hollywood spring 2011! Can’t say the exact location yet but you can walk there from the Kodak Theater…more deets soon!

OMG … I’ve been waiting for YEARS for a Chick-Fil-A to open in my neighborhood. Ever since I graduated from the University of Oklahoma (where Chick-Fil-As are aplenty) I’ve dreamed of living close enough to visit and sup as often as I wanted to … and now, at last, that day is close at hand. Spring 2011, please get here now!

Morrissey Wraps ‘The Swords Tour’ In Ventura, CA

Last night I ventured North to Ventura, CA to attend the last show of Morrissey‘s Swords Tour which, as it turns out, will very likely be my last concert of 2009 and, indeed, of the decade. You may recall that Jordan and I saw Moz play a show in Pomona, CA last Monday but I just had to see the Mozzer one more time. He actually played the Gibson Amphitheatre here in LA on Thursday night but I hear it wasn’t his best performance (Moz has been plagued by throat problems on this latest tour) … there was a lot of fear that he would cancel the Ventura show but it went off without a hitch. On my way up the 101 freeway, I made a pit stop at one of my fave places to eat in the whole world …

… my beloved Chick-Fil-A. Pink reader Laura gave me the head’s up that there is a Chick-Fil-A in Oxnard, CA (which is on the way to Ventura) so I just had to stop for a delish meal. I made it to The Ventura Theater just in time for Moz to take the stage:

After the jump, check out some of the pics I snapped last night and see the full amazing setlist …

A New Hope

Yesterday was a really fun day … David and I picked up our buddy Dino and we made the trek down to Redondo Beach, CA for an afternoon visit to Chick-Fil-A. We planned on bringing our pal Russ with us but the poor guy is under the weather so we had to go without him …

… needless to say, we ate like fiends and had a great time catching up with one another. Dino is one of our fave people ever and we haven’t been able to hang with him for months so it was great that we were able to pull it together.

This afternoon David’s sisters will be rolling into town to spend the weekend with us … it’ll be great to have them here. Tonight Josh and I are going to see Hope Sandoval (formerly of Mazzy Star) live in concert at The Mayan Theater:

I cannot even express how much I love Hope Sandoval‘s voice … I am BEYOND excited to see her live tonight. Wee!! I’ll do my best to snap some fun pics to share with all y’all tomorrow orrrr mebbe not … I guess Hope is psycho serious about not allowing photos during her shows (apparently she unleashes her security henchmen to devour the souls of anyone who tries to snap a photo) … so I’ll prolly just leave my camera at home. My mobile phone is another story ;)

A Long Overdue Date

Last night I met up with my friend Angie for a dinner late that was long overdue … we had been talking about supping together at Chick-Fil-A in Redondo Beach, CA for MONTHS now and we finally got around to having our date:

We are both big Chick fans so we had ourselves a great meal (complete with their NEW peach milkshake) and even greater conversation. I’m hoping that we’ll get to hang out more once she and her family moves closer to LA. Head on over to HoundstoothRadio.com to hear Angie play some amazing songs :)

I think there may be a movie in my plans for tonight … but what movie and with who … is yet to be determined.

SxSW: Day Two

OY! I am tired and beat … all this South by Southwest fun is beatin’ my ass up! It wasn’t that long ago that I used to have the kind of stamina that it takes to go all day long from concert to concert without much sleep … but I guess in my old age, that ability has died down a bit. I have to say, tho, that I am having the best time ever tho. I made my first SxSW friend yesterday, got to see a few amazing performances and even got to dance a little bit. Day Two was really fun and really packed ;) I started out by grabbing a bite to eat at the nearest Chick-Fil-A:

The day just got better from there. I met my new friend Devin while we were waiting in line to see The Von Bondies perform at the Bat Bar inside the Austin Convention Center. We hit it off and hung out for the VB show and then made our way to the Peter Murphy show that was right after. We lost touch at that show but met up later on in the night. After Peter, I made my way to La Zona Rosa to await Tori Amos and saw Gabriella Cilmi and Erin McCarley who performed before Tori‘s set — they were both really great. On the advice of Neil Gaiman, I hauled my ass all the way across town as soon as Tori‘s performance was over to see Amanda Palmer … which is where I met up with my friend Devin. So many great performances!!! Here are pics of the artists that I saw yesterday:

The Von Bondies were so great … it was the first time I saw them perform outside of Detroit. They looked and sounded amazing. The new stuff is really good. Peter Murphy was just fabulous … he was in total Grand Dame mode and seemed to be having a great time. Gabriella Cilmi was a nice surprise … her cover of Justin Timberlake‘s Cry Me A River was pretty rad. Erin McCarley was another new find for me. I’m deffo gonna have to pick up her album … and I may see her again tonight. She did a great version of Tom’s Diner by Suzanne Vega … totally killed it!! Tori was heavenly, as I already mentioned HERE and Amanda Palmer … wow! So far, she is my fave new discovery. Her raw passion and talent is really inspiring. She reminds me a bit of Ani DiFranco on piano. I am gonna get as much of her music as I can as well.

After the long day, I needed a drink … so Devin suggested we head over to Oil Can Harry’s for a beverage or two … which was great cuz the club was hosting a nekkid boy in underwear contest :) Not a bad way to unwind. Devin and I hung out for a bit and then I decided to call it a day by 2am. So much fun, tho. I have to give a shout-out to all the people I got to meet yesterday like Steve, Katie, Carrie and Laurie … there were others and I wish I could remember all the names but, alas, I failed to jot them down :( Here are pics of me with Pink readers Erica and Brittany at the Tori show and Javier from the Red Bull party the night before:

Tonight I’m meeting up with my friend Rachel for dinner and then I’m planning to see the Detroit band the Javelins and Melissa Auf Der Maur. I’m sure I’ll squeeze in some other shows too so … the fun never stops :) Seriously tho, I’m gonna need a vacation from this vacation. I hope I can make it thru ’til Sunday. OY!!

Chick-Fil-A + ‘Rock Band’ = Best.Birthday.Ever.

So, yesterday was my birthday and I really wanted to keep the day as low-key as possible, spending it with some friends and some food. After I discovered a few months ago that I was within driving distance of a Chick-Fil-A restaurant in Redondo Beach, CA I’ve made it a habit of gettin’ down there for eats as much as I can. The very kind owners of the Chick-Fil-A inside the South Bay Galleria Mall in Redondo contacted me with an extremely generous offer to host a party for me and my friends … I figured my birthday would be the best time to have such a party so that’s what we did. I hadn’t anticipated that Bob and Michelle Sun, the restaurant owners, would go all out for me and my friends … they really gave me a superfun and very delicious birthday party. Here are a few pics from yesterday’s fun:

Yes, that is the official Chick-Fil-A cow mascot at my party with me and my friends. I cannot express enough gratitude for Bob and Michelle‘s kind generosity. My friends and I were treated with all the Chick-Fil-A we could eat and then some … I really felt like I was on top of the world. I have to send out much, much love to the Suns for taking such amazing care of me and my friends. Much love also goes out to Darion, Mike, Jill, Paul, Corey, Jim, Derek, Jordan (and his friends Mike and Aaron) and of course David for coming out to my dinner party :)

After the jump, check out a bunch more pics from the second part of last night’s fun — our Rock Band party at Darion’s apartment …
