The Chey Guy Makes Good
Cheyenne Jackson Does ‘Out’ Magazine

Broadway, film and television star Cheyenne Jacksonwho’s latest gig is appearing on the hit TV series Glee — is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Out magazine. In his coverstory article, Cheyenne opens up about his life-long fascination with Wonder Woman, his 10 year relationship with partner Monte Lapka, his acting skillz and more. As you can imagine, Cheyenne‘s Out magazine photospread is HOT HOT HOT … but we’ll get to that in a bit. First up, here are a few excerpts from Cheyenne‘s Out magazine interview:

On his Wonder Woman Fetish: Even from a distance of 25 years, the memory of his weekly Lynda Carter fix gives Jackson goosebumps. A few years ago, his father found an old woodburning art kit of the kind once popular among boy scouts. The idea was to use a woodburning pen to etch around a suitably masculine image on a piece of wood, in this case a muscle car. Jackson, however, must have lost interest part way through. “It was as if I started it and was, like, ‘Eh, I don’t want to do that.’ And then I turn it over, and on the other side, I’d freehanded a portrait of Wonder Woman. Not only that, I’d added watercolors. I had her blue undies and her red thing. I just thought that was a perfect encapsulation of me as a child.”

On his relationship with his partner: A few months after that birthday dinner, Jackson and his partner of more than 10 years, Monte Lapka, walked into New York’s City Hall and registered as domestic partners. “We wanted to get as married as we could,” says Jackson. “I think we were filling in some forms for wills or insurance, and I just thought, Let’s just make this as legal as we can. It was with a bunch of Russian mail order brides, literally. And it was hilarious and it was romantic, just he and me, our little secret.” Although Lapka, a trained physicist, is apparently ambivalent about marriage proper, his status on Jackson’s Wikipedia page is already listed as “spouse.” The boy of 18 who had never said “I’m gay” has come a long way.

On learning to own his own space from an acting coach: “He immediately just broke down my façade — all my bullshit — and challenged me to own my own space,” recalls Jackson. The coach took him to Ninth Avenue in Manhattan, pointed down the busy sidewalk, and commanded him to walk right down the center, not bobbing or weaving as Jackson would ordinarily do. “They’ll move for you,” he told the hesitant actor. “It was very hard,” recalls Jackson. “People were like, ‘Asshole, I’m holding groceries here, what the fuck,’ but I did it. I learned to hold my own space.” He smiles. “That’s when things really started happening.”

I first fell in love with Cheyenne after seeing him (multiple times) in the Broadway musical Xanadu and since then, my love has grown. I’ve meet the man on a few occasions and I can tell you, he is as real as they come. Hearing about his Wonder Woman love only endears him to me more because we all know I, too, have that same love for the Amazonian superhero. Now it’s your turn to love Cheyenne Jackson — after the jump, check out a few photos from his Out magazine interview and see what all the hubbub is about …

Meet Dustin Goulsby, the new coach of Vocal Adrenaline
First Look: Cheyenne Jackson On ‘Glee’

Glee returns next Tuesday night with the season 2 premiere ep Auditions which will introduce singer/actor Cheyenne Jackson and singer/actress Charice to the cast. You may recall that we learned back in July that Cheyenne would be joining the Glee cast as the new coach of rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline and today we get to meet that new character … named Dustin Goulsby:

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to preview next Tuesday’s season 2 premiere ep and I gotta tell ya, Cheyenne‘s introduction on the show is very funny. His part in this ep is very brief bit it’s effective and totally hilarious. I am very much looking forward to seeing more of him on the show. Charice, also featured in this new promo photo, is simply amazing in the season 2 premiere ep. If I can spoil just a wee bit … she does a duet with Lea Michele (who plays lead New Directions diva Rachel Barry) that is uh-may-zing and a solo performance that is just stunning. If you would like to know which songs she performs, you can find out after the jump …

Will play the new coach for Vocal Adrenaline
Cheyenne Jackson Joins The Cast Of ‘Glee’

Woot!! How is this for amazing casting news … Broadway and TV star Cheyenne Jackson has been just been announced as the newest castmember on the hit Fox TV series Glee! Jackson will play the role of the new coach for the nefarious Vocal Adrenaline, taking over for fellow Broadway star Idina Menzel who played the role last season. I’ve been a huge fan of Cheyenne Jackson since his days as Sonny in the Broadway musical version of Xanadu so I’m really excited that he is now a part of Glee:

30 Rock’s Cheyenne Jackson is joining the cast of Glee in a major recurring role, sources confirm to me exclusively. What role would that be? Keep reading for the scoop! Jackson—who was a hoot and a half in Broadway’s Xanadu—will succeed Idina Menzel as the coach of Vocal Adrenaline. Jackson has been on a bit of a roll as of late. In addition to 30 Rock, he also landed a guest stint on the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. And now he’s on the hottest TV show on the planet. It’s worth noting that although Menzel is being replaced as VA’s leader, she’s still Rachel’s biological mom. In other words, expect her to make an appearance or two in season 2.

I’m telling you, Ryan Murphy knows what he is doing when it comes to casting … I love that he is very aware of the talent that exists on Broadway and is happy to bring that talent to the masses who watch his hugly popular TV show. I was very excited when Cheyenne joined the cast of 30 Rock but this role will allow him to really get exposure. He is such a talented performer, I can’t wait to see him on the show! In Xanadu, Cheyenne famously wore a pair of super short cut-off jean shorts for the entire show … I’m hoping Ryan Murphy can find a way to incorporate those shorty shorts on Glee. Trust me, if you’ve seen Cheyenne Jackson in those shorts, you’d agree with me ;)

OUT and proud
Celebrities Celebrate amfAR, Men’s Fashion & Ricky Martin

Celebs like Kylie Minogue, Cyndi Lauper, Cheyenne Jackson and more made their way to The New York Public Library last night to attend the 2010 amfAR New York Inspiration Gala which honored singer Men’s Fashion as a whole and Ricky Martin, who recently came out of the closet as a gay man, in particular. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets from last night’s event:

Ricky Martin has stepped out in style at an AIDS research organization’s New York City gala celebrating men’s fashion. It’s one of his first public appearances since announcing he’s gay. Celebrities including Kylie Minogue and Cyndi Lauper attended Thursday night’s amfAR event, which honored the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer for his philanthropic contributions through his foundation. Minogue hosted the black tie/black leather event. She says she is happy for Martin and feels he’s “embracing and living life” since announcing in late March he’s gay. Designer Jean-Paul Gaultier was honored for his contributions to menswear and his humanitarian work. The gala benefits amfAR’s AIDS research programs.

I’ve always thought that Ricky Martin should be honored for his philanthropic work so I’m glad that amfAR decided to feature his great work at last night’s gala. I just LOVE that Kylie Minogue flew over from the UK to attend last night’s event in honor of Ricky … I can’t think of a better way to celebrate a freshly out of the closet gay man ;) And speaking of Kylie, NYers might want to be at Splash Bar tonight because the RUMOR is that Kylie will make an appearance there around 1AM tonight to promote her current single All The Lovers. UGH! So cool … I wish I could be there, believe me. BUT, getting back to Ricky, congrats again goes out to Mr. Martin for all of his hard work and good deeds. Let’s hope his philanthropy inspires others to work for the betterment of others as well.

"The way I came to know about theatre was through yard sales"
Cheyenne Jackson Does ‘Fab’ Magazine

Cheyenne Jackson, Broadway star of Xanadu: The Musical and TV guest star on 30 Rock, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the NYC-themed Toronto, Ontario magazine fab. In his coverstory interview, Cheyenne reveals a lot about him that you may not have known previously. I’ve been a pretty big fan and even I learned a lot of new things in this interview. Here is Cheyenne‘s hawt fab coverphoto and some excerpts from his fab interview:

“The way I came to know about theatre was through yard sales. I was always going to them and buying cast albums for shows like Annie. I wanted to be the first boy to play Annie, that was my dream,” recalls 34-year-old triple threat Cheyenne Jackson, flashing a dashing smile. Since moving to New York eight years ago, Jackson has carved out a career that rivals those of the show business icons he grew up admiring. His classic good looks, crooner’s baritone and leading-man screen presence have made him a casting agent’s wet dream — an achievement he never dreamed possible as a choirboy in northern Idaho. “I’m not really a bondage, tie-up kind of guy, but every time that Valentine’s Day Popeye cartoon would come on, the one where he ties Bluto up, it would make me feel weird in my stomach,” says Jackson. Growing up different in a conservative religious household in a town of fewer than 1,200 people, Jackson remembers his rustic childhood well. He describes it as “very Little House on the Prairie,” complete with well and outhouse. “I wasn’t privy to a lot of things other kids my own age who had money were, but what we did have was music,” says Jackson. He jumped at any opportunity to perform. “The first time I said a line and everyone laughed, it was the biggest cliché in the book, but I knew I was home.” “When I was 13 and in eighth grade, I was obsessed with my best friend. I was in love with him. He had blond curly hair and he was a Mormon,” says Jackson of his first crush. “I just thought I wanted to kiss him all the time, so I thought ‘Hey, I’m totally gay.’” Jackson waited until he was 19 to come out to his religious family, including his brother, a preacher once featured on the 700 Club. He describes the process as “terrible” and notes it included a suggestion he enroll in an ex-gay program. “The idea of the ex-gay movement as a philosophy is one thing, but the comedic side of me thinks 20 guys staying in cabins in the woods, all trying not to be gay…. That’s a Sean Cody movie,” jokes Jackson, who promptly said “No fucking way” to the idea. “I realized they were grasping. You have to let your parents mourn the idea of what they think your life is going to be. It’s them that has to deal with it. We’ve been dealing with it our whole lives.” His family eventually came around, and he gleefully mentions that he brought his parents with him when he sang on the Rosie O’Donnell Gay Family Cruise last year.

Cheyenne‘s interview with fab continues after the jump, where you can also see one more sexy NYC-themed photo from his accompanying photospread …

Sadly sans Jake Gyllenhaal
‘Brothers’ Premieres In NYC

Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire were joined by Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson and fashion designer Christian Siriano and others at an NYC premiere screening event for their new film Brothers which was held at the SVA Theater last night. Unfortch, tho, Jake Gyllenhaal — who also stars in the film — was not in attendance at last night’s event. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals along with some deets about the movie itself:

Natalie Portman joined Toby Maguire for the premiere of their new movie Brothers in which they star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in a modern take on the prodigal son parable. Portman plays Grace Cahill whose husband Sam, played by Maguire, is the model citizen, war hero and son of a combative Vietnam veteran. His brother Tommy is played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Tommy is a drunk who has recently been released from prison but when the news of the suspected death of his brother reaches the Cahill family, the delinquent brother turns over a new leaf to protect Sam’s children and wife. Tommy falls for Grace only for his brother to miraculously return from harrowing torture in Afghanistan and a battle for the beautiful Portman’s affection ensues. Focusing on political apathy for war and the troubles faced by families of servicemen, Brothers has been tipped for award success in the new year.

I only recently heard about this movie when I saw a trailer for it on TV … now that I’m learning that the film is a modern re-telling of the Prodigal Son parable, I’m even more intrigued. Despite my intense love for Jakey poo, I think this film looks really good overall (ie. I’d prolly see it even if Jake weren’t starring in it). From what I’ve seen thus far of Maguire‘s performance in the few clips I’ve seen already, it looks like his character is really … intense … and poor Nat is stuck in between the two brothers. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing this flick … despite it’s serious tone, it looks like a movie I’d deffo want to see in theaters, despite the holidays.

The future is now
The 2009 LOGO NewNowNext Awards Are Handed Out

Last night, LOGO hosted the second annual NewNowNext Awards at the Hiro Ballroom at the Maritime Hotel here in NYC and a who’s who of cutting edge celebs made their way out for the event. David and I were graciously invited to attend and had ourselves a pretty spectacular time. Here are a few pics from the red carpet arrivals last night:

RuPaul played host of the night’s festivities and a whole slew of really fun awards were handed out thruout the evening. The show won’t air on LOGO until June 13 so you’re just gonna hafta wait to find out who won all the fun awards ;) I will say, tho, that RuPaul was so awesome as host … she looked FABULOUS and managed to grace us with 3 costume changes thruout the night. Vanessa Williams was a nice surprise … there were just a lot of really fun folks there last night. We had blast. Our table was situated right next to Sia‘s table and we bonded with her immediately. She came over to me to tell me that she loves reading my “bloggy” and uses it as her source of all the fun “gossy”. She is just insanely adorable. I have a few fun photos to post in the TV Guide post later on today .. but for now, congrats and love goes out to all the NewNowNext Award winners … and to Cheyenne Jackson for being hot.

After 5 years together, the couple decide to tie the knot
Cynthia Nixon & Christine Marinoni Are Gettin’ Hitched!

Happy news to share today … Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon announced yesterday, at the Love, Peace and Marriage Equality Rally in NYC (which brought out folks like Kristin Davis, Cheyenne Jackson, David Hyde Pierce, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg and more), that she and longtime girlfriend Christine Marinoni have gotten engaged and are ready to finally say I Do! The couple, who have been together since 2003, share custody of a daughter and a son and are now ready to take their relationship to the next level. At yesterday’s rally, Cynthia announced that she and Christine got engaged last month … they’re gettin’ hitched, y’all:

While rallying for gay rights in New York this weekend, Cynthia Nixon announced her engagement to girlfriend Christine Marinoni, the Sex and the City star’s rep confirms to E! News. The couple has been together since late 2003, shortly after Nixon split from her longtime companion Danny Mozes. The exes share custody of their two children, Samantha, 14, and Charles, 7. Nixon shared the news with audiences during the Love, Peace and Marriage Equality rally in New York City.

The actress and Marinoni became engaged last month and are currently working to support the new gay-rights bill proposed by New York Gov. David Paterson. The goal is to achieve equality for same-sex unions. Access Hollywood first reported the engagement. Nixon and the rest of the Sex and the City gang are set to start filming the movie’s sequel this summer.

This is very happy news. I’m thrilled for Cynthia and Christine. The couple have been together for so long and have previously announced that they didn’t want to get “pretend married”. Now that there are 5 States in the US that have legalized same-sex marriage, with New Hampshire on the verge and NY working towards the same, I guess the time was finally right for the couple to start making plans for their nuptials. Much love and congrats to their entire family! I can’t wait until they’re finally able to get ‘er done.
