Cementing her status as a Hollywood icon
Cher Leaves Her Mark On Hollywood Blvd.

On Tuesday we saw photos of Christina Aguilera getting her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame but because the iconic Cher (who co-stars with Xtina in their new film Burlesque) already has a star on the Walk of Fame they had to go above and beyond to honor the legend. Cher was on hand yesterday to leave her hand and foot prints in the cement in front of the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theater … here are a few photos:

Cher made her mark in Hollywood history on Thursday by placing her hand and footprints in cement outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, as her new film “Burlesque” hits theaters next week. The music icon is returning to the big screen in a big way after a seven-year absense. She said she never intended to take such a long break from the movies. “There aren’t a lot of scripts that were right for me, there was one I wanted to do, ‘Mamma Mia,’ but I was working, so I couldn’t. This one just kind of worked its way into it,” said Cher. Cher shares a lot of her scenes with actor Stanley Tucci. They were the veteran cast members in a movie filled with newcomers like Christina Aguilera. “We were there just to do a good job, have a good time, but also to be supportive of someone like Christina who had never done a film before,” said Tucci. In one scene in the movie, Cher puts makeup on Christina. Cher said she wrote that part of the script. It’s a true story about her mom. Both Tucci and Cher said they’re similar to their on-screen characters in that they’re both nurturers in real life. “I have three children that I take care of since my wife passed away. That’s most of how I spend my time,” said Tucci. “I’m also, like the character in the movie. I’m used to having so many people around, much younger,” Cher said. “They look to you to give them the feeling of security, and I think that was the relationship I had with the girls in this film.” Cher will be one of among nearly 200 celebrities who have left their prints at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

Cher now joins Hollywood legends like John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, Steve McQueen, Darth Vader and more as the celebrities immortalized forever in cement in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater. While it’s fairly easy for a celeb to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it’s a bit more of an exclusive matter to be asked to leave your hand/foot prints in the cement in front of Grauman’s. Cher is the perfect celebrity to be so honored. I’m still on the fence about seeing Burlesque, I gotta say. I’m not impressed by what I’ve seen thus far nor am I ever that impressed when Xtina over-excitedly wails her songs … but if anything is going to get me to pony up and pay to see this film, it’ll be Cher. Let’s send our love and congrats to Cher on this latest accomplishment … IMHO, it’s long overdue.

Peep Show
‘Burlesque’ Premieres In Hollywood

The legendary Cher and her young co-star Christina Aguilera were among the folks who came out to Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA last night for the LA premiere of their new film Burlesque. Earlier today we learned that Xtina was on hand to receive her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday afternoon but after a quick outfit change she was back on Hollywood Blvd. for her big premiere. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals at last night’s premiere of Burlesque:

For the most part, the reviews that I’ve been hearing about Burlesque have been mostly positive … still, I’m not sure I’m convinced. None of the trailers that I have seen of the film have impressed me at all and I have to wonder how this girl from a small town moves to the big city and hits it big story will stand apart from the countless other movies that tell the same story. Still, I have faith in Cher‘s amazing abilities as an actress so … I might give the movie a shot. Burlesque opens on November 24 … do you think YOU will be there to see it on opening day?

“If I woke up tomorrow in a guy’s body, I would just kick and scream and cry ..."
Cher Does ‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine

The immortal Cher is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine. Cher‘s VF coverstory is timed for the release of her new film Burlesque (which also stars Christina Aguilera who is featured on the cover of the new issue of Redbook magazine) and is chock full of amazing quotes from the true HBIC. Here is our first look at Cher‘s Vanity Fair coverphoto and some excerpts from her accompanying interview:

Cher tells Vanity Fair West Coast editor Krista Smith that she can’t believe “Sonny and I still aren’t in the [Rock and Roll] Hall of Fame, and it just seems kind of rude. Sonny was a good writer, and we started something that no one else was doing. We were weird hippies before there was a name for it, when the Beatles were wearing sweet little haircuts and round-collared suits…. We influenced a generation, and it’s like: What more do you want?” As for her daughter turned son, Chaz, Cher says, “If I woke up tomorrow in a guy’s body, I would just kick and scream and cry and fucking rob a bank, because I cannot see myself as anything but who I am—a girl. I would not take it as well as Chaz has. I couldn’t imagine it.” While Cher remains a proud mother, she admits to Smith that she still gets confused: “She’s a very smart girl—boy! This is where I get into trouble. My pronouns are fucked. I still don’t remember to call her ‘him.’” Of her secret to remaining in the spotlight for the past five decades, Cher tells Smith, “I feel like a bumper car. If I hit a wall, I’m backing up and going in another direction. And I’ve hit plenty of fucking walls in my career. But I’m not stopping. I think maybe that’s my best quality: I just don’t stop.” Cher opens up about her feelings for Sonny, and their tumultuous marriage, saying that Sonny “told me when we were together, ‘One day you are going to leave me. You are going to go on and do great things.’ … I wouldn’t have left him if he hadn’t had such a tight grip—such a tight grip.” Cher tells Smith that Sonny treated her “more like a golden goose than like his wife…. I forgive him, I think. He hurt me in so many ways, but there was something. He was so much more than a husband—a terrible husband, but a great mentor, a great teacher…. If he had agreed to just disband Cher Enterprises and start all over again, I would have never ever left. Just split it down the middle, 50-50.”

Cher is a legend … anytime she opens her mouth, people take notice. She is never the type of woman to dance around an issue, she speaks her mind, she does so boldly and she doesn’t give an eff who she may offend. Lady Gaga wins 8 awards, Eminem wins 2
The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Are Handed Out

So … last night MTV threw its biggest party of the year, the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards … and despite attempts to hype up the possible drama that might’ve gone down on the show ended up giving us a fairly quiet and painfully drama-free awards show … much to many people’s chagrin. I was able to attend the show last night and from my perspective the show was OK but clearly lacking the excitement from VMA shows from days of yore. Here are a few photos from the red carpet arrivals last night:

Again, for me the carpet was kinda lackluster … kinda quiet. The Jersey Shore kids came out, some of the nominees did as well but really there wasn’t anything to get all excited about the entire time. I will say that Ciara looked the best on the carpet last night. Her dress was amazing … she was a vision just walking down the carpet. There weren’t too many fugly looks … but, as you might expect, the Jersey Shore kids brought way too much tan to the snow white carpet. After the jump, check out some photos from the show itself and find out what the Washington Post had to say about the 2010 MTV VMAs. I think you’ll find their sentiments echo the sentiments of many who watched last night …

If I Could Turn Back Time
Cher Makes Her Return To The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

The iconic Cher, a diva in her 60s, made a surprise appearance at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards last night when she came out to present the last award of the night — Best Video. Cher stunned the crowd when she sauntered out in an outfit that was very reminiscent of the costume she wore in her 1989 music video If I Could Turn Back Time. When that video was released, it was considered so risqué that MTV would only air it after 11pm. These days, it looks very tame in comparison to the music videos that air thruout the day on various music television channels. Here are a couple photos of Cher at the VMAs last night:

She is 40 years older than most of last night’s attendees and hasn’t had a major hit since 1998, but Cher was the name on everybody’s lips at the MTV Video Music Awards. The singer stole the show in a barely-there outfit reminiscent of the costume made famous in her video for her 1989 song If I Could Turn Back Time. It was an updated version of the controversial jewelled outfit, complete with her trademark over-the-top curled hair and leather jacket. At 64, Cher’s choice to recreate the famous look was certainly brave. The see-through black body stocking left very little to the imagination, but the singer proved she still has an incredible body. She acknowledged the age difference between her and the audience when she arrived on stage to present Lady Gaga with the award for Video of the Year for Bad Romance. ‘I have shoes older than most of these nominees,’ she told a cheering audience. ‘I’m the oldest chick with the biggest hair in the littlest costume. ‘Back in the day, I used to get thrown off MTV for wearing things like this that seem so tame now,’ she added. ‘That’s when Lady Gaga was Baby Gaga.’

Each year the MTV VMAs provides a moment that everyone talks about the following day … this year, much like last year, I suspect the talk will be about Taylor Swift and Kanye West. As you may recall, Kanye interrupted Taylor‘s award speech last year and then caught hell for it. This year, both Taylor and Kanye sang about that moment last year … but neither one did very well or scored any points (tho, I suspect, Kanye came off looking better by comparison this year). For me, the big VMAs moment was Cher‘s surprise appearance. I think other moments include Lindsay Lohan‘s cameo (which we got to see earlier today), the performance by Florence + the Machine and Rihanna‘s surprise duet with Eminem to open the show. To be honest, this year’s VMAs seemed a bit more subdued … maybe even a bit lackluster. What did y’all think … what was YOUR fave moment of the night?

And, just to refresh your memories (or to clue in you young’ns who have never seen it before), here is Cher‘s 1989 all too risqué music video for If I Could Turn Back Time:

Showgirls
First Look: Christina Aguilera In ‘Burlesque’

Back in January we got to see photos of popstar Christina Aguilera filming scenes for her debut movie titled Burlesque here in SoCal and then in April we got to see some behind the scenes video from the set of the film. Today we get to see the first promo pics released from the film which is due to hit theaters this Winter:

Christina Aguilera has built up a name for herself as one of the sexiest singers around during her time in the music industry. With singles including Dirrty and Not Myself Tonight under her belt, the 29-year-old star is no stranger to causing controversy with her risque dance routines and raunchy lyrics. But now Christina has taken a chance with her career, and made the move into film – starring alongside Cher in the upcoming Burlesque. And, as the first pictures from the film show, she has no intention of toning down her naughty side. In one shot, Christina is seen wearing a low-cut gold dress and heels as dancers perform some impressive moves behind her. In another, she is seen reclining on a chaise longue in a corset and frilly knickers as she performs a sexy routine. Speaking about the film, Christina told USA Today: ‘It’s sexy, it’s sensual. The whole idea of burlesque has always intrigued me. ‘The art of the tease, the dance, beautiful women – need I say more? I think people will definitely feel energised and excited.’ Christina plays Ali Rose in the movie which tells the story of a young girl to travels to Los Angeles to live her dream, only to find herself making money in a burlseque club. She said: ‘It wasn’t just about a girl who comes to LA and makes it big. It was a girl who had suffered and felt pain, been in seven foster homes. She doesn’t let her past make her a victim. And that to me was so appealing.’ Burlesque also marks a return to acting for Oscar-winning star Cher, who plays former dancer Tess – the owner of The Burlesque Lounge. Speaking about how Cher, 64, helped mentor her during her film debut, Christina said: ‘I love no-bullshit women, and she’s the best of the best. An original trendsetter in her time and a legend in mine. I found her kind and warm. She had helpful advice and stories for days.’ And now she has had a taste of life in front of the lens, Christina has no intention of giving up her film dreams. When asked recently what kind of films she saw herself starring in, Christina replied: ‘Something edgy would be good. I like the kind of roles Angelina Jolie usually plays, like in Girl, Interrupted. Something with substance.’ She added: ‘But I also have some ideas of my own, so maybe I’ll get with a screenwriter to put them to paper.’ Burlesque, which also stars Stanley Tucci, Cam Gigandet and Alan Cumming, is due for release in December.

HMMMM. The photos strike me as a bit Showgirls-y, to be honest. Plus, I’m not very intrigued by the description of the film. I’m not sure what Burlesque will offer that will entice folks to shell out their money to see it. I mean, I get that we are still many months away from the film’s release but this first look does not impress me at all. After the jump, check out a few more promo photos from the film including a couple that feature Cher

Super Soaker
Cher Hits The High Seas

At 63 (64 in just a couple of months), Cher is keepin’ herself very active. When she’s not workin’ on new films like her upcoming effort Burlesque, she’s sneakin’ out of medical centers trying to keep her face underwraps … but this week, she was spotted doing something a bit more fun. Cher has made her way to Hawaii to vacation with some friends and was spotted enjoying an afternoon of paddle-boarding … behold:

She once famously sang about turning back time. But a few weeks short of her 64th birthday, and it seems not even Cher can prevent the passage of years from taking their toll. Abandoning her trademark glamorous outfits for a skin-tight wetsuit and day-glo orange vest, the singer looked dishevelled as she tackled the surf while learning to paddleboard with friends in Hawaii. She confessed to having a facelift, as well as procedures to improve her teeth and breasts, and has even described herself as a ‘plastic surgery poster girl’. The singer says she felt pressure to look youthful in the highly competitive pop industry. She has said: ‘Everyone says I am terrified of getting old, but the truth is that in my job becoming old and becoming extinct are one and the same thing.’

PshawCher looks fine. Whether or not she’s had cosmetic help, she looks fantastic … that she’s enjoying a holiday with friends on a paddle-board is fantastic. Cher will outlive us all … it’s almost a certainty. I’m just happy to see her so active. Do your thing, Cher … I just hope I have your energy at 63 (going on 64)!
