Gimme Grimoire

Things have been settling nicely around here, thankfully. With over 24 hours of no technical difficulties, travel woes or emotional breakdowns, I’m starting to feel like my old self again. David and I did a whole lotta nothing yesterday so that we could just chill out and relax … let me tell you, it was nice. I was very excited and pleased to receive a very special book in the mail yesterday. I had ordered this particular hand-made book a few months ago and, at last, it arrived. You may recall that previously I mentioned that I managed to track down a prop replica of the Spirit Board that was featured in the Charmed TV series. Well, I also managed to track down a book maker who crafts full size replicas of the Book of Shadows featured in Charmed. I had hoped the book would be as similar as possible to the one featured in the show, I was completely unprepared for how almost EXACTLY this replica is to the original magic book see on the show:

I am a sucker for prop replicas from my favorite TV shows and movies. I have quite a few items from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (including Buffy‘s stake, the Slayer Scythe, the Orb of Thesulah and Angel‘s sword) but the Charmed Book of Shadows has to be the one of my fave acquisitions. THIS is the book maker who crafts these Charmed replicas and I can assure you, the quality and craftsmanship is unbelievably stunning. All of the spells used on the show thruout the entire 8 seasons of the show are included in the book along with hundreds of blank pages for one’s own additions. I’m just such a sucker for these kinds of collectibles (much to David’s chagrin, I can assure you) and this book is among the best of the bunch. I spent hours last night going thru all of the pages, it’s really a very cool grimoire. Okay … enough of my geekiness … I just had to share :)

Tonight, I had planned on seeing Massive Attack at The Wiltern but I think I’m going to skip it. Considering the emotional loss that my friends and I have suffered over the weekend, I think it might be nice to get together with friends tonight instead. Not sure exactly what the plan is but I hope it’ll be fun. Hope YOU are having a Happy Hump Day!!

The ‘Charmed’ Comic Book Series Is Lookin’ Good

Last month we learned that Charmed is being adapted into comic book form, surely inspired by the success of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book series, and today we get to see some new artwork from the new comic. Rose McGowan tweeted this image from her official Twitter account and I had to share it with all y’all:

Okay, so we expected to Zenescope’s new “Charmed” comic book based on the hit television series to be pretty sexy — after all, the publisher has never shied away from injecting their comics with ample amounts of curves. But when they sent us this exclusive wraparound cover for “Charmed” #2, created by superstar artist Greg Horn … “Charmed # 0″ will hit shelves in June and issue #1 will debut at the San Diego Comic-Con International in July.

Damn! The Charmed Ones are lookin’ hot, y’all. I have high hopes that this new comic book series will do well … mebbe not as well as the Buffy comics but certainly enough to hold their own. After the jump, check out some character sketches that show what Piper, Phoebe and Paige Halliwell will look like fully-clothed within the pages of this new Charmed comic book series …

Following 'Buffy's lead?
‘Charmed’ Moves Into The World Of Comic Books

4 years after it went off the air, the hit supernatural TV series Charmed is making a comeback … in the world of comic books. As some of you may be well aware, Joss Whedon decided to revive the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series in comic book form and has been entertaining longtime (and new) fans with Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Season 8. Based on the success of the Buffy comics, Angel was also brought into the comic book world as well. It would appear that the owners of the Charmed license have been paying attention because today we learn that they are moving forward with the release of a Charmed comic book series that will pick up where the series left off when it ended its 8 year run back in May 2006. Here is our FIRST LOOK at Charmed #1:

Zenescope Entertainment has officially announced they have obtained the comic book and graphic novel publishing rights to the television property CHARMED (1998-2006) created by Constance M. Burge from Spelling Entertainment, under license from CBS Consumer Products. The comic book publisher, known for beautiful, sultry and strong female characters, has now added three more to the mix. The ultra-popular CHARMED television series aired for eight seasons on The WB network and averaged more than 4 million viewers throughout its run. Zenescope’s comic book series will feature a brand new storyline which picks up where the television series left off. The story follows the Halliwell sisters, a beautiful trio descended from a line of powerful but good witches, as they battle against evil beings in modern day San Francisco. Attached to write the new comic book series is author Paul Ruditis, who has written several Charmed novels such as Leo Rising (with Constance M. Burge) and As Puck Would Have It. Co-writing with Ruditis will be Raven Gregory, writer of the acclaimed Wonderland trilogy published by Zenescope. Renowned artist Dave Hoover (Captain America, The Wanderers) will be providing interior illustrations for the series. “The key to this series success is to strike a nice balance in creating a brand new, intriguing storyline for fans of the television show while also not alienating Zenescope and comic book readers who haven’t really followed it before but might want to now that it’s a comic,” said Zenescope Editor-in-Chief Ralph Tedesco. “The great thing is that Paul and Raven have done just that with this story arc. Anybody will be able to pick up this series and follow it whether or not they ever watched the show before. Moreover, fans of the show are going to be thrilled when they see where this story goes.” Issue #0 is scheduled for a June release with issue #1 to debut at Comic Con International in San Diego this July.

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! I think some of you know that I have been on a HUGE Charmed kick lately (I’ve started re-watching the series, I’ll be finishing season 3 tomorrow) so this is very exciting news to me! Much like the Buffy comic employs writers from the TV series, it’s very smart for the Charmed comic book series to do the same. While the character of Prue Halliwell (played by Shannen Doherty) was NEVER resurrected on the TV series, I’m confident that writers will bring her back from the dead in some fashion in the comic books … mark my words! This is fantastic news … I’m so excited! I might have to make the trek down to San Diego Comic Con just to get the Charmed #0 comic book. Woot!

This Charming Man-sion

Yesterday wasn’t all bad … for the most part, it was one of the funnest days I’ve enjoyed living here in LA :) As you may have noticed, I’ve been on a bit of a Charmed kick lately. Now that I’m re-watching the entire series all over again and have been fawning over my new possession of a full-size replica Charmed spirit board, I’ve been itching to visit the real life mansion that was used in all 8 seasons as the Halliwell Manor on the show. Much like a real life home was used as Buffy Summers‘s home on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which my friends and I visited back in July of ’08), there is a real life mansion that was used as Halliwell Manor in Charmed. The Charmed House is in the Angelino Heights neighborhood of Echo Park:

I’ve been meaning to get out to see the house for a couple of weeks now but there were many delays. Yesterday was finally the day!! After the jump check out some of the fun photos I took of Halliwell Manor yesterday afternoon …

Spirited Away

Last week I decided that I want to re-watch the entire Charmed series (all 8 seasons) and as luck would have it, the re-runs on TNT coincided perfectly with that desire. I’m about mid-way thru season 1 and am loving the show all over again. Even tho I own the entire series on DVD in the limited edition Charmed: The Complete Series [Book of Shadows] collection

… my plan is to re-watch the entire series on TNT in 2 eps per day to stretch out my enjoyment ;)

This past weekend, I ordered an amazing prop replica of the Spirit Board used on the show and it arrived yesterday … and is SO MUCH COOLER than I though it would be. I already own the Spirit Board prop replica that was used in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 7 episode Conversations with Dead People so this Charmed Spirit Board is a welcome addition to my collection:

Trust me, I am not the sort of person who likes to play with Ouija boards but I do love these prop replicas. I also have a traditional Ouija board signed by the members of Marilyn Manson put away at my parent’s home back in Michigan … which makes it sound like I collect them or something. I actually love collecting prop replicas from my fave TV shows but it just so happens I know have all of these Ouija boards. So yeah … that’s about the extent of my exciting day yesterday. I’m not sure if there are any Charmed fans out there but I think it might be worth re-watching the series again. I had forgotten how fun the show is … and I have never re-watched the entire series in full so, I’m excited. This weekend, I’m dragging David out to go with me to see the actual house that was used in the Charmed series as the the Halliwell mansion (which is here in LA) so that I can take photos. Yes, I’m a nerd but at least I’m having fun :) Wee!!
