His alleged tryst and subsequent run-in with the law leads to jailtime
Charles Barkley Is Goin’ To Jail

As you may recall, late last December former NBA star Charles Barkley got busted for DUI after he ran a stop sign late one night in Scottsdale, AZ … and this week, Barkley learned the consequences of his infraction. Pleading guilty to two counts of DUI and admitting responsibility to running a stop sign means that he will have to serve 10 days in jail, 5 if he completes an alcohol consumption class … PLUS he’ll have to pony up $2,000:

Barkley just pled guilty to 2 counts of driving under the influence and pleaded “responsible” to running a stop sign for the December 31 incident in Scottsdale. Barkley was sentenced to 10 days in jail — but will only do five if he completes an alcohol education program. Barkley was also fined $2,000. Barkley will begin his sentence on March 21 — but it’s unclear if he will serve time in Arizona’s famed Tent City Jail, where they make the inmates wear pink. As for the gun cops say they found in Barkley’s car on the night of the arrest — no charges were ever filed.

Honestly, I post this information mainly because it is very rare for celebs to be held accountable for their crimes. I honestly believe that this jailtime is being imposed on him because the incident happened in Arizona. Had this infraction occurred here in LA, I doubt we’d be hearing of any such punishment. Personally, I feel that all DUI cases should result in incarceration. Getting drunk drivers off the street and behind bars not only teaches a lesson but it frees innocent people on the streets from having to deal with another drunk driver … at least for a short time. I’m glad to hear that Charles Barkley manned up and plead guilty to his crime. I hope he learns his lesson in his 5 days of jail and never drinks and drives again.

The former basketball star got popped on suspicion of drunk driving
Charles Barkley Busted!

Well … he almost made it thru the year without getting arrested … former basketball star and proposed candidate for Governor of Alabama in 2014 Charles Barkley got busted on suspicion of driving while under the impairment of alcohol when he ran a stop sign in the Old Town section of Scottsdale, AZ in the wee hours this morning. Police suspected that he was loaded and hauled him over to a mobile police unit for a blood alcohol test … and, natch, TMZ was there to get it all on film … here is his lovely sweaty mugshot:

Charles Barkley was arrested early Wednesday in Arizona on charges of driving while impaired. Police say they noticed Barkley, 45, running a stop sign in the Old Town section of Scottsdale at about 1:30 a.m. Officers pulled Barkley over, took him to a nearby mobile command post, and administered a blood test after declining to submit to a breath test, according to Gilbert, Ariz., police Lt. Eric Shuhandler. Barkley was issued a citation for driving while impaired and released pending the results, which normally takes about a week, Shuhandler said. “He was very nice and professional,” Shuhandler said, adding he entire arrest process took place without incident, and Barkley was civil and cooperative throughout. For a first offense, someone found guilty of the charge Barkley faces might expect between one to 10 days in jail, the suspension of driving privileges for 90 days, and a fine of $1,000 or more, Shuhandler said. Barkley, who gained notoriety for a quick temper and blunt language during his years as an NBA player, represented the United States in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. In October, he announced that he would be a candidate for governor of his home state of Alabama in 2014.

Er … yeah, I wouldn’t necessarily count on that gubernatorial bid in 2014 just yet … then again, folks have a funny way of forgetting things like this and/or end up electing politicians with questionable morals into office anyway. I’m not sure what the hell I was thinking but I was under the impression that the celeb busts were finished for the year … I guess I should’ve known that there was time for at least one more celeb bust. After the jump, check out a photo of Barkley being escorted out of the mobile police unit where he was processed this morning …
