Now THIS Is A Pairing I Can Get Behind
Jake Gyllenhaal Chills With Carey Mulligan In Nashville, TN

When last Jake Gyllenhaal was seen in Nashville, TN, he was in the company of Taylor Swift … this weekend, Jakey poo returned to Nashville last night to chill out with actress Carey Mulligan at a basement gig performed by Mumford & Sons at City House. Jake and Carey‘s hang out session made it’s way to Twitter … along with some short, blurry video.

Ryan Gosling & Carey Mulligan Get Really Friendly On The Set Of Their New Film

Last month we saw the first photos of new co-stars Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan on the SoCal set of their new film Drive. Today we get to see new photos of the couple on set … and these photos look a bit friendlier than the first photos we saw. As you may know, Carey is freshly separated from her last romantic affiliation with ex-co-star Shia LaBeouf … does this mean she is makin’ a play for our dear Gosling?

She’s been moping around all over town since her split from Shia LeBouf, but today Carey Mulligan couldn’t stop smiling thanks to her handsome co-star Ryan Gosling. The 25-year-old flashed a flirtatious grin to the actor as they chatted between takes on the set of their new movie Drive in LA. At one point the 29-year-old even scooped the actress into his arms and swung her around, much to her delight. The pair are currently working on the indie film, about a Hollywood stuntman, with along with Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks.

Oh yeah, upgrade for sure. While Carey and Shia were cute together I think Ryan Gosling would make a much better boyfriend, don’t you? I mean, we don’t know for sure that anything romantic is going on at all between these two … but they sure seem to enjoy one another’s company. Naturally, when two people work together on a film, they sometimes end up hooking up … which is exactly how Shia and Carey got together (on the set of Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps). But, once the movie is wrapped and the actors move on to their next projects, the love affair fizzles. If Carey Mulligan is smart, she will capitalize on the time she gets to spend with Ryan Gosling and will, er, indulge in the bounty.

Stocks crash on the 'Wall Street 2' lovebirds' relationship
Shia LaBeouf & Carey Mulligan Are Dunzo!

When last we saw lovebirds and co-stars Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan, they were making their way to LA together so that they could attend the 2010 Academy Awards together (she was a nominee). Since that time, the couple have not really spent a lot of time together … probably due to the fact that the couple, Oh Sh-arey, are dunzo!

Starring in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps was good for Carey Mulligan’s bank balance, but it does not seem to have brought any lasting satisfaction in her love life. Mandrake hears that the 25-year-old actress is returning to Britain after cooling her relationship with Shia LaBeouf, 24, who played her boyfriend in the film. “I’m moving back to England: it’s a long story,” she told friends at the premiere of her latest film, Never Let Me Go, in the West End of London. When I asked the actress, who was a boarder at Woldingham School, in Surrey, why she was returning just a few months after she had professed her love for New York, she was demure. “I am spending some more time here at the moment,” she said. “Just spending time with my family, really” … In May, the actress, who was nominated at the Academy Awards for her role in An Education, said: “I love New York, maybe more than Los Angeles or London. I could live in New York. I think I’m happiest [there].”

Alas … another young relationship fritters away and dies. Shia recently flipped out on a paparazzo photographer who dared to photograph him, perhaps he was just pissy that his relationship with Carey had come to an end. Ah well … I suppose the old adage is true … ’tis better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all.

Shut up and 'Drive'
Ryan Gosling & Carey Mulligan Film A New Movie Together

Canadian hottie Ryan Gosling and up-and-coming British actress Carey Mulligan were spotted on the SoCal set of a new film titled Drive this week. Here are photos of Ryan and Carey milling about on set on the first day of filming:

Carey Mulligan is seen here on location for her latest film project in Los Angeles. The British actress, 25, was pictured on set with co-star, Canadian actor Ryan Gosling for their new movie, Drive today. The action-thriller is being produced by Universal Studios and will also star Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks. The film is based on the James Sallis novel about a Hollywood stunt driver (Gosling) who moonlights as a getaway car driver in heists. In the book, the stuntman’s already-exciting existence gets jolted when he discovers that a contract has been put out on his life. Wall Street Star Mulligan, who won acclaim for An Education last year, will play the girlfriend of Gosling’s character. Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn is at the helm. Carey looked a little glum as she headed back to her trailer between shoots today, wearing a red top and patterned dress. Meanwhile, Gosling was looking a bit more cheerful, showing off his biceps in a white vest top.

Whooooooo, Ryan. I do love it so when he shows off his almost muscly arms, don’t you? Drive may or may not be the kind of movie that will get me to buy a movie ticket … but the fact that the film will provide hours of Ryan Gosling, well, there’s a good chance they’ll get my money when the film opens in theaters ;)

'Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire' wins BIG!
The 2010 Film Independent’s Spirit Awards Are Handed Out

Last night, at the Nokia Theater at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles, CA, the 25th annual Film Independent’s Spirit Awards were handed out in a fairly lavish ceremony just days before the Academy Awards are handed out in Hollywood. Known as the Indie Oscars, the Spirit Awards annually honor the independent films and filmmakers made in the year prior. This year, the indie film Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was the big winner, taking home 5 awards — including Best Female Lead, Best Supporting Female, Best Director and Best Feature!!! Now, I should point out that The Hurt Locker was not in contention for Spirit Awards this year due to a glitch in the awards show rules. It was nominated last year, months before the film was ever released … which meant, naturally, that it has no chance of winning because none of the voters had even heard of the film. But, Hurt Locker‘s loss was deffo Precious‘s gain. Here are some photos from the red carpet arrivals and some deets about what went down at the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards last night:

The harrowing drama “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” was the big winner Friday evening at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which was held in a tent on L.A. Live’s event deck in downtown Los Angeles. The film about a pregnant African American teenager and her abusive mother won best feature, best director for Lee Daniels, best first screenplay for Geoffrey Fletcher, best female lead for Gabourey Sidibe and best supporting female for Mo’Nique. Daniels basked in his win away from his fellow Oscar nominees. “Kathryn Bigelow’s not here tonight,” he said. “I am.” “Precious” is nominated for Academy Awards in many of the same categories, with Mo’Nique considered the odds-on favorite to receive best supporting actress Sunday evening at the Kodak Theatre. Mo’Nique’s acceptance speech wasn’t as emotional as some of her other winning speeches this awards season, but she did take a special moment to acknowledge her co-star Sidibe, telling her, “You are a special gift to the universe, baby.” Presenter Ben Stiller, noting the ceremony’s late hour and the independent nature of the assembled crowd, brought half-naked porn stars onstage to writhe in sexual positions while he read the nominees for best film. On Friday, best male lead went to Oscar nominee Jeff Bridges for his moving performance as a dissolute country singer in “Crazy Heart.” The role has won Bridges numerous awards this season, including honors from the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild. Bridges gave a rambling speech in which he thanked many people and told the crowd, ” ‘Crazy Heart’ is a gem of an independent film.” “Crazy Heart,” directed by Scott Cooper, also won the Spirit prize for best first feature. Robert Duvall, who came to the stage with Cooper, told the crowd that the latter hadn’t directed so much as a high school play before this film. “But,” Duvall added, “he does a great job.” Woody Harrelson, also an Oscar contender, won for supporting male for “The Messenger.” Screenplay honors went to Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber for “(500) Days of Summer.” Roger Deakins received the cinematography award for “A Serious Man.” “An Education” won best foreign film, and “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” took documentary honors … The third annual Robert Altman Award, which is given to a film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast, went to Joel and Ethan Coen’s “A Serious Man” … The Spirit Awards, which honor independent and original filmmaking, have traditionally been held on the Saturday afternoon before the Oscars in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica. But the show moved to Friday evening at L.A. Live this year in celebration of the awards’ 25th anniversary.

Many, many congrats goes out to Precious … while I’m certain that Mo’Nique will represent the film at the Academy Awards tomorrow night, it’s clear that last night’s Spirit Awards was the film’s biggest night to shine. It’s a shame that The Hurt Locker got shut out due to a set of janky rules (which will, very likely, be amended for next year’s show) but I’m very happy to see Precious enjoy it’s time in the sun. After the jump, check out some photos from the press room and from backstage at the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards last night …

Oscars bound?
Shia LaBeouf & Carey Mulligan Make Their Way To Los Angeles

Yesterday we saw a few SUPERCUTE photos of hot new couple Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan (his Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps co-star) suckin’ face playing kissy face together on the cold streets of NYC. It was unknown, then, if Shia was planning to make his way to LA to attend the Academy Awards on Sunday as Carey‘s date (she is nominated for Best Actress for her work in the film An Education) but I think it’s safe to say that he is. Here are a few new photos of Shia and Carey — who I will refer to collectively as Oh Sh-arey (get it?) — flying out of NYC and landing in LA last night:

It seems clear to me that these two are not quite as interested in showing off their amorousness in public when they know they are being photographed. The pics we saw yesterday were quite a boon considering how private Shia likes to keep his life. In any event, now that we know that Oh Sh-arey are in LA, I think it’s very safe to assume that we will be seeing the both of them walking the red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. I think they make a cute, if somewhat grumpy, couple … don’t you?

Kissy-Face
Shia LaBeouf & Carey Mulligan Take Their Lurve To The Streets Of NYC

Shia LaBeouf and Academy Award-nominated ladylove Carey Mulligan were not shy-a about their lurve in NYC this week as these new photos of the pair openly canoodling in chilly Manhattan this week clearly show. As you may recall, Shia and Carey met in NYC last Fall while filming the upcoming sequel film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and it would seem that their initial flirtation has turned into quite the love affair … behold:

After spending the last few weeks on the awards circuit, Bafta winner Carey Mulligan has finally been reunited with her boyfriend Shia LaBeouf. Clearly thrilled to be back in each other’s company, the young couple couldn’t keep their hands or lips off each other as they cosied up over a coffee. The couple are currently enjoyed a few precious days together before Mulligan flies to Los Angeles for this weekend’s Oscars, where she is up for Best Actress. It is unknown whether LaBeouf will be her escort on the red carpet as the couple are yet to make a public appearance together. After being away from the snow for so long, it appears the An Education actress wasn’t quite prepared for the New York weather. As the couple happened upon a big pile of snow as they crossed the road yesterday afternoon, gallant LaBeouf realised Mulligan’s ballet pumps weren’t suitable for walking through snow. So her gentlemanly boyfriend lifted her over the freezing slush so she didn’t get her feet wet. Mulligan, 24, appeared to find his attentive behaviour humorous as she giggled in his arms, but rewarded him with a tender kiss. Mulligan and LaBeouf, 23, started dating last August after they were cast in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the long-awaited follow-up to 1987 classic Wall Street. Their co-star Michael Douglas said he warned them against romances with their co-star, but the chemistry between them was just too strong. He said: ‘I warned them, “Don’t ever do that”, but they are an item and they are having a great time.’

OMG … they are so cute together … granted, a cuteness that borders on disgusting … but cute nonetheless. It’s such a cliché when actors get together romantically while working on a film but, meh, they’re young … they’ve got plenty of time to figure things out. It’s kinda strange to see Shia lookin’ so affection … and in public, no less. He is usually no fan of the PDA … clearly, he is enraptured by Miss Mulligan. I find it very hard to believe that he will not accompany Carey to the Oscars this weekend. A boy this in love would not miss his girl’s special night for anything. Gak! These two are too cute … I’m gonna go heave now ;)

Back in Black
Shia LaBeof Films New Movie On A Crotch Rocket

Principal filming has begun here in NYC on the sequel film Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps which continues the tale of intrigue and greed which began in the film Wall Street released back in 1987. Shia LaBeof stars as Jacob (who will, undoubted, get in over his head as he gets lured to the darkside of Wall Street greed) in this new sequel and he and costar Carey Mulligan were spotted filming scenes for the flick on the streets of Manhattan earlier today … behold:

It looks like the short hiatus that Shia enjoyed after he wrapped his last film is over and he is back in action on this new film. It’s encouraging to see that he has no qualms about shooting action scenes like this, especially considering the injury he suffered to his hand in his car accident back in the Summer of ’08 will never be repaired. I dunno that I’d be so willing to get back on the horse, or motorcycle as it were, after being injured but … he’s a pro. Truth be told, I had zero interest in the first Wall Street film so I doubt I’ll be seeing part 2 but good for Shia for getting back into the swing of things again. Do we like him in the leather?
