Past Due ‘Rent’

Last night was a pretty bizzy night for David and me as we had a pretty full plate of entertainment to enjoy. To get the night started, we attended last night’s performance of the new off-Broadway production of Rent (which I enjoyed … for the most part, review to follow) and then a night of revelry at Splash Bar with some friends. Now, David and I are not accustomed to late nights but we managed to muster up the strength to party hearty.

It Gets Better

In the wake of so many suicides by GLBT youth due to bullying in recent weeks a bunch of celebrities have banded together or filmed videos on their own to spread the message of hope to the young people who fell hopeless. Much like Dave Navarro did on his official website last week, all kinds of celebs have decided to speak out in order to spread hope. A flurry of It Gets Better videos have been popping up recently in an effort to spread the message as far and wide as possible. Here is a video which features Anne Hathaway, Kristin Cavallari, Jenny McCarthy, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Roberts, Candice Accola, Ian Somerhalder, Candis Cayne, Erika Jayne, Greg Grunberg, Rex Lee, Julie Benz, Michael Chiklis and Kat Graham:

My good friend Pauley Perrette, who stars on NCIS, decided to film and release a video of her own:

As did Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden:

This message that life gets better is so important because it is so easy for young people who feel hopeless and alone to think that no one understands what they are going thru as they figure out who they are … even worse, many believe that they are unloved, unwanted and will not be missed if they decide to take their own lives. It is my sincere hope that these messages of hope can reach the people who need to hear them the most. The Trevor Project was set up so that young people in need of support can call at any time of the day or night to find the help that they need. Information on The Trevor Project can be found on their official website HERE or they can be reached by calling 1-866-4UTREVOR (866-488-7386). It truly may seem hopeless sometimes … but things do get better.

Pink reader Sarah points us HERE to see the rest of the It Gets Better PSA videos. Check ‘em out, post ‘em on Facebook … help spread the message.

30,0000+ folks walk to raise millions for AIDS research
Celebs Take To The Streets For The 25th Annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles

The 25th Annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles took place here in SoCal Sunday kicking off with a rally in West Hollywood, CA yesterday morning. A bunch of celebs took part in the walk in order to help raise funds for AIDS research charities … including George Takei, Felicity Huffman, La Toya Jackson and my dear friend Pauley Perrette. Here are a few pics of some of the celebs who participated in yesterday’s event and some deets about the AIDS Walk itself:

More than 30,000 people took part in Sunday’s 25th annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles, which benefits AIDS Project Los Angeles and several other Los Angeles-area AIDS service organizations. The opening ceremony began at 9:15 a.m., and the 6.2-mile walk started at 10 a.m. at West Hollywood Park, 647 N. San Vicente Blvd. From there, walkers headed south on La Cienega Boulevard, east on Melrose Avenue, south on La Brea Avenue, west on Beverly Boulevard and north on San Vicente to return to the park. Among the celebrities who participated were Felicity Huffman, Aaron Carter, Mary Louise Parker, Darryl Stephens, George Takei and John Lloyd Young. A VIP post-walk reception hosted by actress Teri Hatcher began at noon. San Francisco Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom attended, along with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land. Villaraigosa and Land spoke to the crowd about the HIV/AIDS crisis in Los Angeles and the work of AIDS Project Los Angeles. “Today in L.A., there are 60,000 people living with HIV, and as many as a quarter of them don’t even know they are infected. It’s so important that we get them into testing and get them into treatment and care early so that they can stay healthy,” Colin Weil of AODS Project Los Angeles said.

I understand that this year’s AIDS Walk LA raised $3.15 million for the cause! Woot!! My hat is off to any person who gives of their time in this manner … thank all y’all who walked the walk and put your time where your money is to help find a cure for this deadly disease. Kudos and thanks again for your hard work this year!

Candis Cayne Does Heart, Britney Spears & Eurythmics

Last night, despite the cold rainyness, I made my way out and met up with Jordan for a quick bite to eat at Fat Fish in West Hollywood, CA. We planned on meeting up with Darion and Josh at The Abbey to catch Candis Cayne‘s weekly show there so we picked Fat Fish as our meeting/dining place. Randomly, the contestants (and the main trainer lady) from this season of The Biggest Loser had taken over the place and kept bumping into me as they gathered together to take photos. It was a bit annoying but they all seemed so happy so … meh, I didn’t say anything and let them continue on their raucous way. After dinner, we went over to The Abbey for Candis‘s show … here are a few pics from last night’s performance:

Candis did an amazing performance of Heart‘s song Alone with a Fatal Attraction intro … it was hilarious. She also performed Gimme More by Britney Spears but, unfortch, her stage kinda broke and she kinda took a spill — but ever the pro, she got right back up and finished the song. Afterward, she claimed it was the best impersonation of Britney Spears she’s ever done ;) She also preformed a medley of Here Comes The Rain Again by Eurythmics which segued into Beyoncé‘s Single Ladies. She was tres fierce last night. After the jump, check out videos of each of these performances …

The Candis Shop

Last night I met up with Steph, Alek and Darion for a little din-din at Fat Fish on Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood, CA before we went over to Eleven to have a drink with a friend of S&A who works there. Then we all made our way over to The Abbey to watch Candis Cayne (one of the stars of the late Dirty, Sexy Money) perform her weekly show. I’ve heard many great things about Candis‘s show and once I heard she was doing a performance of Beyoncé‘s Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), well, I just had to see her for myself. Here are a few pics from her show last night:

Folks … she was amazing. She told some really funny stories, broke the news that she will be appearing on 2 eps of Nip/Tuck next year and, of course, put on a few performances that were just … amazing. After the jump, check out Candis‘s performance of Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)
