The Associated Press has just announced that they have selected the fantabulous Betty White as their 2010 Entertainer of the Year. I wholeheartedly concur. Discuss.

The Honorary Title
Betty White Becomes A Forest Ranger

Congratulations are in order for our dear Betty White because yesterday afternoon, she was bestowed the honorary title of Forest Ranger by the National Forest Service at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. Betty was presented her very own Forest Ranger hat and badge and received a big hug from Smokey the Bear at yesterday’s fun ceremony … here are a few photos:

Betty White has had countless roles over her award-winning career, but now she has a gig she’s always wanted: “Forest Ranger.” The actress known for her roles on “The Golden Girls” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” was made an honorary ranger Tuesday by the U.S. Forest Service. White, 88, said that as a young girl she wanted to be a forest ranger, but women weren’t allowed to have the job. On Tuesday, the Forest Service presented her with a badge and a ranger’s Stetson hat, which she donned during a ceremony at the Kennedy Center. When Smokey Bear arrived mid-ceremony, White gave him a big bear hug and later asked to take the Forest Service mascot with her. She settled for a toy Smokey with its own small hat. “Wilderness is harder and harder to find these days on this beautiful planet, and we’re abusing our planet to the point of almost no return,” White said. “In my heart I’ve been a forest ranger all my life, but now I’m official.” White said some of her first memories as a child are riding in front of her father on a horse into the High Sierras. They would stay for three weeks and never see “another two-legged soul,” she said. The family also went camping in Yellowstone National Park. White said her teachers eventually asked that she write essays on topics other than Yellowstone. The Forest Service began in 1905, but very few women were employed during the early years. Today, women make up 38 percent of the Forest Service’s workforce.

Look at the smile on Betty‘s face. It’s no secret that Betty is a big animal lover but I was unaware of her fondness for the great outdoors. You don’t really hear about folks wanting to grow up to be Forest Rangers very much but I suppose anyone who grew up watching Yogi Bear cartoons might have some affinity for the profession. Betty has been honored with countless awards and tributes in her time but something tells me that this honorary title of Forest Ranger might be one of her faves. How adorable is she?

“I’ve always liked older men."
Betty White Does ‘Parade’ Magazine

The Golden one Betty White is featured on the cover of this week’s issue of Parade magazine and in her coverstory interview, Betty opens up about what kind of men she likes, what she learned from her parents, her thoughts on marriage equality and more. Here is our first look at Betty‘s Parade coverphoto and some excerpts from her coverstory interview:

Don’t call her a cougar!
White she may lust after Robert Redford (who is 14 years her junior), Betty insists, “I’ve always liked older men. They’re just more attractive to me. Of course, at my age there aren’t that many left!” Apparently, that hasn’t presented much of an obstacle. “I’ve enjoyed the opposite sex a lot,” says White, whose beloved husband of 18 years, Allen Ludden, died in 1981. “Always have. Always will.”

Her parents passed down their comic timing—and puppy love.
“They had delicious senses of humor,” White says of her parents. Her father was a traveling salesman who would bring home jokes from the road. He and her mother were also animal people. “They would come back from a walk with a dog, saying, ‘Betty, he followed us home. Can we keep him?’ My parents had a cat named Toby who liked to sit on my crib. My mom always said that if Toby hadn’t approved of the baby, she’d have gone straight back to the hospital.”

She believes everyone should have the right to say “I do.”
White’s status as a gay icon dates to the mid-80’s popularity of The Golden Girls. “Gays love old ladies,” she says of the phenomenon, which saw fans from West Hollywood to New York City turn on their TVs between 9 and 9:30 on Saturday nights to watch the exploits of Rose & Co. “I don’t care who anybody sleeps with. If a couple has been together all that time—and there are gay relationships that are more solid than some heterosexual ones—I think it’s fine if they want to get married. I don’t know how people can get so anti-something. Mind your own business, take care of your affairs, and don’t worry about other people so much.”

As if it weren’t possible to love her anymore, she goes and gets even MORE lovable … and wait ’til you see a few photos from her Parade photoshoot. Check out Betty White‘s Hallowe’en themed photos, after the jump …

Betty White talks geriatric sex drive
Betty White, Jamie Lee Curtis & Kristen Bell Do ‘AARP The Magazine’

Betty White, Jamie Lee Curtis and Kristen Bell — all co-stars in the new film You Again — are featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of AARP The Magazine (which is geared toward the older set). In the coverstory interview, Betty opens up about her sex drive … which, apparently, hasn’t slowed down in her golden years. Sound intriguing? Read on …

“Does desire melt away with age? I’m waiting for that day to come,” the 88-year-old tells AARP Magazine in its November/December issue. “Sexual desire is like aging,” she continues, pointing at her head. “A lot of it is up here.” White, who shares the magazine’s cover with two of her You Again costars Jamie Lee Curtis and Kristin Bell, tells the magazine that her first marriage was totally physical. “I married my first husband because we wanted to sleep together,” she says. “It lasted six months and we were in bed for six months.” After a disastrous second marriage, White met game show host Allen Ludden. She says they were a match made in heaven – even though she wasn’t initially interested. “He bought me a beautiful ring and I threw it back at him,” she recalls, “so he wore it on a chain around his neck. He said, ‘I’m going to wear it until you put it on your finger.’ ” It worked, and the couple walked down the aisle in 1963, and stayed together until his death in 1981. “The secret to our marriage was enthusiasm,” White says. “When I knew Allen was coming home, I would freshen my makeup and put on a new blouse.” And the sex was apparently great, too. If Ludden were alive today, White thinks they’d still be sleeping together. But if he were unavailable, White has a second choice. “I don’t have a fella,” she says, “but if Allen – or Robert Redford – were around, we’d have a very active sex life.”

OK … let’s be honest … I’m not sure many folks are too keen on hearing about the sex drive of an 88 year old woman (except for 88 year old men) but I do love how open, honest and forthcoming Betty is about her personal life in this article. You just know that underneath all those Rose Nylund sweaters beat the heart of a romantic … a sex hungry romantic. While it sounds like Betty ain’t getting as much play as she used to get in her hey day, it also sounds like the desire to get down and freaky ain’t quite sputtered out for her yet either. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing … but it is now something that we are all very well aware of.

"Alright everyone, listen up. I'm Betty f*ckin' White"
Betty White Releases A Promo Video For Her New Clothing Line

Back in July we learned that Betty White was launching her own line of t-shirts and hoodies for Hoodie Buddie and today we get our first look at a fun new promo video that Betty filmed to promote the line … here are a few screencaps and some deets about the clothing line from Hoodie Buddie:

This video is in promotion of Jerry Leigh’s officially licensed Betty White apparel (they have the sole license to her likeness in the apparel category), which includes limited edition HoodieBuddie™ with HB3 Technology™ and t-shirt styles. The HoodieBuddie™ styles feature patent pending technology in the form of washable drawstring earbuds and an input jack in the pocket, which keep its wearer connected to an ipod/mp3 player. The Betty White apparel benefits Morris Animal Foundation, a pet charity of Betty’s, and is available for purchase at hoodiebuddie.com (both guys and girls)!

I cannot think of anything so unexpected as a clothing line designed by Betty White that is so technologically advanced but … it works. After the jump, check out this fun promo video in full and see what I’m talking about …

Betty Boop
Betty White: Comic Book Hero

Earlier today we got to see a couple of promo photos from Betty White‘s upcoming guest appearance on the NBC series Community and I mentioned in that post about how I can not get enough of Betty … that I want more, more, more. Well more, more, more is exactly what we get … here is our first look at the soon-to-be-released Betty White comic book from Bluewater Productions:

Actress Betty White first gained fame as a regular on the Mary Tyler More Show and The Golden Girls. But the actress, now 88, is enjoying one of the strangest career rejuvenations ever. She brought down the house while guest hosting Saturday Night Live and has become a popular pitchwoman on countless TV commercials. She’s even landed a new role in the TV series Hot in Cleveland. Now White will receive a new honor: She’s slated to become the star of her own comic book biography from Bluewater Productions. Female Force: Betty White will hit comic book stores and online retailers such as Amazon.com in November. The 32-page book will retail for $3.99. Writer Patrick McCray, a veteran of the comics industry, traces White’s amazing showbiz career from her days providing voice talent for the radio show Blondie to her return to sitcoms in Hot in Cleveland. “Working on the Betty book was an honor and a blast,” McCray said. “While covering a new entertainer is always fun, there is something special about profiling an icon. Not only did it allow me to savor nostalgia, it also let me catch up on areas of pop culture that had passed me by.” Todd Tennant is the artist on Female Force: Betty White. He, too, is a veteran of the art world. Tennant is a professional illustrator with 31 years of experience. He dove into the world of comics about 10 years ago. He runs his own online King Kong vs. Godzilla comic series, and is the co-creator of the graphic works King Komodo and Gigante. Tennant, too, said that it was a thrill to work on bringing Betty White’s story to life. “I remember seeing Betty White and her hubby Allen Ludden on reruns of the original Password program after school as a kid, and grew very fond of them even then,” Tennant said. “Betty White as Sue Ann Nivens on the Mary Tyler Moore show will always stand out as my strongest and fondest memory of her. Needless to say, I was happy to be given the opportunity to attempt illustrating Betty’s fascinating personal life and her prolific career.” Bluewater president and founder Darren G. Davis says the biography comics are a way to bring new readers to comics. He added that fans of White’s might learn a bit more about the veteran actress by reading Female Force: Betty White. “Betty White has had such an amazing entertainment career,” Davis said. “It’s one that has now spanned more than 70 years. The biggest challenge that the creative team behind this book faced was figuring out how to include as much of this career as possible in one comic.”

I mean … what could be more perfect than a Betty White comic book? We’ve already got the Betty White clothing line and books to look forward to, now we have a comic book on the way as well? LOVE it. I’m not sure what other goodies we can expect from the Betty White merchandise machine but I can’t wait to find out. What do y’all think … are you looking forward to adding this Betty White comic to your comic book collections?

First Look: Betty White On ‘Community’

A couple of weeks ago we got our first look at Betty White in a new promo video for the upcoming season of Community to promote her guest appearance on the season premiere ep. Today we get our first look at Betty on the show in a couple of promo pics that have been released by NBC as well as some info on what role Betty will play on the show:

Sure, summer may be over but at least you can look forward to the return of all your favorite TV shows this fall — like NBC’s Community, which just released photos from its upcoming season premiere starring hot octogenerian Betty White! Judging by these new stills, the episode featuring White as kooky anthropology professor June Bauer is going to be pretty awesome. Especially considering Community stars Joel McHale and Chevy Chase will also be back for the new season.

While I understand that some folks are beginning to suffer a bit of Betty White fatigue (because the Golden Girl tends to pop up on every show), I am just loving every time Betty shows up on new projects. As I mentioned before, I don’t usually watch Community but I’m planning to check out the season 2 premiere ep later this month to see Betty in action. After the jump, check out one more promo photo of Betty White posing with the cast of Community

'Modern Family' and 'Mad Men' take home the big awards
The 2010 Emmy Awards Are Handed Out

Last night at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles, CA the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards were handed out on LIVE TV in a telecast that offered some entertainment, lots of surprises and a bit of disappointment. Here are a few photos of some of the attendees of last night’s Emmy Awards as they made their grand arrivals on the red carpet:

As for the show itself, well, overall I was a bit underwhelmed by what we were given. I thought Jimmy Fallon did a fairly good job as host but much of the show was tedious and annoying. The announcer who wouldn’t shut up as the night progressed really got on my nerves. They need to get rid of him, like, seriously. I really enjoyed Jimmy‘s musical interludes and I really enjoyed the show’s Glee-themed opening number. In case you missed it or just want to watch it again, you can do so after the jump …

Celeb Presenters Rehearse For The 2010 Emmy Awards

Today’s the big day! The 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which honors the best in television arts and sciences, will air LIVE tonight on NBC at 8PM ET, 5PM ET. But, before the big show takes place tonight there was a whole lotta rehearsin’ going on at the Nokia Theater in downtown LA yesterday afternoon. Here are a few photos of some of the celebrity presenters rehearsing their stage cues yesterday along with some deets from inside the theater about what went down:

It was all laughs on the Nokia Theatre stage Saturday afternoon during rehearsals for Sunday’s show. Ricky Gervais, dressed casually in a T-shirt and track pants, poured on the comedy when comparing the Emmys with the Golden Globes, the more loose, party-like ceremony he hosted earlier this year and is slated to emcee again in 2011. “What’s wrong with having a little beer?” he asked. A smiley Neil Patrick Harris, who hosted the Emmys last year, greeted executive producer Don Mischer in the makeshift control room erected in the audience by yelling “Cut to commercial! Cut to commercial!” Harris later practiced his outstanding lead actress in a comedy series introduction, which features Harris poking fun at new host Jimmy Fallon. Jim Parsons from “The Big Bang Theory” and Sofia Vergara from “Modern Family” giggled their way through their bit, cracking up when she pronounced “Big Bang” in her thick Colombian accent. Keri Russell also joked around with Will Arnett, who mockingly booed when stand-ins for “American Idol” producers practiced accepting the competitive reality series Emmy.

Additionally, Deadline Hollywood claims to have the skinny on how Emmy host Jimmy Fallon plans to open tonight’s show. In order to keep the spoilery information out of sight for those of you who want to be surprised, I put the juicy deets behind the cut. For those of you who just can’t wait and gotta know what Jimmy‘s plan is — you can read all about it, after the jump …

"Watch me on the season premiere of 'Glee'"
Betty White Features In A New Video Promo For ‘Community’

Betty White, THE hottest actress in Hollywood right now, will be appearing as a guest star on the season 2 premiere of the NBC comedy series Community and today we get our first look at a cute but short promo video for the show which features our dear Betty:

The little comedy gag that Betty does in the clip focuses on her mistaken belief that she will be guesting on Glee instead of Community … yes, this is the part where you’re supposed to laugh. After the jump, check out the video clip and see if the gag works better as you watch Betty in action …
